Extra Space Storage recently bought Life Storage and in short order began raising their rates dramatically. In February of 2024 my rent was $68.40. In March, it was raised to $82.84 and now they raised it to $163.40. That's an increase of 139% in just 8 months. Discussing this with their district manager was futile, so I moved to a place that abides by California Rental Laws. read more

This location I had a bad experience with pest. Specifically rats in climate controlled unit and building had rat droppings everywhere. Also a female representative accused me of leaving cat food out at location. However, upon further investigation, a woman had access on site and was to blame. I also have researched that other storage companies in the area have better and reasonable monthly rates compared to Extra Space rates. My monthly rate increased over $225 at occupancy after my third month. Having to experience rat issues and uncleanliness is not worth the increased rates. I moved out and had to thoroughly clean my belongings I took out of storage. 1 star for storage unit. Management has to improve clean facilities and address rat issues! read more

Scam price gouging!!! You rent a unit and a month before your agreement is ending, they double the rent rate for your unit. By the way, No Customer Loyalty, you cannot renew at your current rate or the sale rate, that is only for new customers. Just like Dishnetwork and DirectTV, I hope your business sees the same demise as those cable providers. read more

I stumbled on to this Storage facility just shopping and browsing the many storage facilities in the vicinity. I was impressed with the manager Lou, who was helping others when I walked in. I had to wait a couple of minutes, but, in short time Lou was finished serving the customers ahead of me. My interaction with Lou was great, air -conditioned units, twice the square footage of my current situation , and open longer, was a win-win for me and my Company. Thank you. read more

Having used Extra Space Storage 2 additional times, I purposely asked how frequently their rates increased when I was shopping for a storage unit. I'd called the main number for Extra Space and was told that yes, the rates do increase every quarter but they would never be more than 10%. "Are you sure?" I asked and was told "yes". I moved into my storage unit the first week of September and recieved a rate increase notice of EIGHTY ONE PERCENT in October!! I called the office and was told it would have to go through upper management to make an adjustment so she would call me back - which she never did. They did adjust the rate down to a 64% increase but still a far cry from 10%. I don't appreciate being lied to so I decided to pull my things out of my unit. The day we were supposed to move things out, the elevator was broken. We tried to get to the second floor via the stairs in case the elevator was just stalled on the second floor but the door at the top of the stairs was locked. We returned after the holiday on our date to move out and the elevator still was not working. We stopped in the office to ask the woman there what we were supposed to do and ended up asking the same question 4 different times to her. This was partly because she never once looked up at us but continued with whatever she was doing on the computer and partly because of her insistence that the elevator WOULD be fixed. She said "you asked me to call you when it was fixed; I didn't call you so it's not fixed yet!" No one can guarantee the repair could be done that day which is why we asked her multiple times for an answer. In the end, (still not looking at us but on her computer) she said "you don't think I'm going to charge you another month if you can't get your things out, do you?" This was exactly what we were trying to determine!! She told us multiple times "I'll CALL you!" Four hours later and having not heard from her, we went by to check and found the elevator fully operational! We moved our things out quickly and took timestamped photos of our empty unit since by this time, we had no confidence in the employees of Extra Space and their ability to tell the truth or be reliable and professional. Do NOT be sucked in by their lies as I was!!! read more

I rented a unit at what I considered to be a great price. The location was good enough. I paid the agreed upon amount with auto-pay so there has not ever been a problem with payment. After just 2 months the payment for the 3rd month was almost doubled. I feel like this was a bait and switch deal. read more

The manager on greenway and 35th Ave is Rude Caddy and Unprofessional. I Moved in October and now I am moving out. I also had a unit at the Metro center location That location calls the cops on you if by chance you have an issue and are not able to be completely off property at 10pmFrom my businesses to my personal use I always have storage units and in the past 20 years this company by far has been the worst not to mention more money than most. Basic storage place. Environment-controlled, but not air-conditioned. No complaints about the facility or the staff. They're all pretty nice. What bothers me the most is that my rent has gone up twice this year. It started out at $31 a month plus $8 a month for Insurance. Exactly 13 months from my first day, rent will have gone up to $48 a month plus $11 a month for insurance. And no, they don't allow you to use your own renters insurance. Would I recommend them for the service? Yes. My 2-Star rating has to do with the sketchy rent hike situation. read more

This company is the worst. After convincing me to lease a storage unit and giving me a monthly price that was competitive and affordable, Extra Space Storage on Bell Road in Phoenix increased my rate by 40% after just four months. No explanation was given for this steep increase and no warning was provided that they would bait and switch with their rates. Now I'm out $1,500 in moving fees and I'm looking for a fair and reputable storage company where I can relocate my items. By looking at other reviews on Yelp and the Better Business Bureau this is standard procedure for Extra Space Storage. This company is fraudulent in its representations and did not even bother to respond to my request for an explanation until I called three times. Now we are going to small claims court. DO NOT EVER RENT FROM EXTRA SPACE STORAGE unless you want to PAY EXTRA!!! read more

Do not use extra space storage! Your property is not secure. Damage was done to my personal property, they have cameras pointed right at my property but refuse to give any information to me without the police requesting it. The space next to mine where the damage occurred has a rental contract with extra space and that is why they will not give me the information. They will protect the larger customer. I take care not to damage any other property and pay my storage bill on time. When I ask for the information they now have a technical issue with their cctv system. read more

On March 12 I emptied out one of my storage units at 3770 E. Bell Road that I have kept there for 2 plus years. I had rented an indoor climate-controlled unit as I was storing sentimental items and books. To my horror - ugh - one of my boxes of books had been attacked and destroyed by termites. Some of the books are irreplaceable - such as a college yearbook. Upon notifying the office as soon as it was discovered, I was told the company would contact me quickly. It is now almost 2 weeks later and I have not been contacted. Please be very careful on choosing to store your valuables at this location. read more

I hope people check here before signing up with them. It's the same in all the comments, they suddenly jack up your rate, ours was 20%. This after being there just four months. I will be reporting them to the AZ Attorney General as the automatic price hikes should be in the contract. It's a pain to go somewhere else, but I was able to trim our bill $100.
