I found Extra Space Storage on Yelp and decided to give them a call. Kris (or Chris) answered my call and she was very helpful and very nice (we even talked about her new puppy)! She found the size I needed (after describing to her what I needed to store) and even got me a lower price at one of their other locations. Today, after about a week of leasing my storage unit, my sister and I stopped by to check out the unit so when the movers came I wouldn't look like such a dork trying to find it. After we finally found it we went to the office to ask a couple of questions, one was about an email I received letting me know that they would be painting the facility during the time I planned to move in. I spoke with Rodney, the store manager, and he assured me we would have full access to my unit. He was very nice and had a sense of humor! What more could you ask for? Then as my sister and I were leaving we pull up to the gate to leave thinking it was an automatic sensor gate, the gate wouldn't open. So my sister ran into the office and the woman (I didn't get her name) was so helpful and sweet and didn't make us feel like complete idiots (were were supposed to punch in our code on the keypad, that we didn't even notice, before we got to the gate). Everyone I have come into contact with at Extra Space Storage has been the best! I would highly recommend for all your storage needs! read more

STAY FAR AWAY!!! Theft...and it was suspicious. My son and daughter in law lost $10k in belongings as well as many sentimental items. They r young and only purchased the small insurance plan which unfortunately will not cover their losses. They took everything...furniture items, jewelry, Marine Corp uniforms, all of their shoes (weird) all brand new baby items they had for their soon to arrive baby. Had to have been at least a truckload. When asked about video surveillance they said "we looked there was nothing" read more

Stored my things here at this location. They had a leak/ water damage. Never told me. When I moved out all of my things were damaged with mold. I had to throw away almost all of my belongings. Family heirlooms, my children's keepsakes, things that were irreplaceable. Thousands of dollars of damage. Then, they refused to pay for anything. They told me I have to go through the Insurance they make you pay for, Which covered nothing! This was their fault! Stay away from this business. They are a nightmare to deal with, they get you in, then raise the prices every few months. I paid them thousands of dollars to ruin all my belongings. This company has ZERO integrity. read more

This place is just awful. I had my stuff stored there for more than 10 years on recurring billing. When I moved, I had to change my credit card billing address. I had forgotten I had them on recurring, otherwise I would have called and notified them. It had been over 10 years. They called while I was out of town, left a message that my card wasn't going through (because my billing address had changed). When I called back, they told me it was too late and had auctioned off my stuff. They said they sent certified letters, but I went to the Carlsbad Post Office and they could not find anything in their system with the tracking numbers Storage USA provided me. Thought about taking it to court, but just don't have the time nor energy. Six months later, I get a call from a rude collection agent demanding payment of $250 immediately or it was going to court and I would be responsible for all the court, attorney and additional collection fees. She said she has had my file for six months and they had sent certified letters to my OLD address which were returned. Why would they send it to my old address when I had previously had this fiasco with the storage unit and had given them my correct address? I asked why she waited so long to call me on my cell phone. Apparently, it's just a courtesy. I asked how she planned on taking me to court, if they never sent paperwork to the right address. "Oh, they'd find you," she said. For $250 dollars? If you need to store your stuff somewhere and are considering Storage USA, find somewhere else. I paid them approximately $10,000 to store my stuff there for about 10 years, AND was a good paying customer. My credit card doesn't go through because of a change of billing address and my stuff is auctioned off for $70. AND then, they send me to collections for $250. Really? In addition, I just received this notice via email - this should be criminal: We are making some changes to your lease for storage unit #xxxx at our facility located at 5855 W Centinela Ave, Los Angeles, CA, 90045 and want to make sure you were informed. These changes include the following: Any disputes between you and Extra Space Storage, other than those excepted, will be decided via neutral binding arbitration, as more specifically set forth in the Arbitration Addendum attached hereto. However, you may choose to opt out of the terms of the Arbitration Addendum. If you choose to opt out of the Arbitration Addendum by signing and returning the attached Arbitration Addendum to your Extra Space Storage facility by no later than July 1, 2013. Absent such notification, you will be deemed to have accepted the terms contained in the Arbitration Addendum. In addition to any other requirements of applicable law, Owner shall post information relating to any public or private sale resulting from Owner's enforcement of its lien at the following website: http://auctions.extraspace.com. Anyone else had an break ins there at this location? They said nothing was on video but I think it was inside job or broke into from the inside. I walked around the perimeter and a lot of the fences were cut out and extra fence put in to cover up the hole from a break in.. just need to know who else might of had any of those issues? read more

Went in today and rented a storage unit and aside from the nice clean unit which has super easy access, the people working in the office were FANTASTIC, friendly and super helpful. They went out of their way to make it an easy process. I highly recommend this place! I wish I would have caught their names but I think it was Rodney and Charmaine...great folks! read more

I personally have had storage for 6 years, not here, but when I help a friend set his up I find the location to be convenient. I'm not quite sure why he chose this place as I much prefer my public storage location and price. I locked myself in for a really cheap price and pretty large space in a better location, but to each his own. What I don't like is the lot itself. It's got elevation changes, tight corners, roll up doors only on the outside. I prefer the bay doors as often these 10X8 spaces in a regular door don't let enough light in to work, so you have to put auxiliary lighting, plus I have couches in mine and really do not prefer this. read more

Highly recommend going to the storage facility because everyone in this industry will lie to you over the phone. I showed up pretty unsatisfied with their service and was kindly rejected to do business with them. It worked out visited three other places and found a cheaper spot. Bob, the manager, at Extra Space Storage # 645 is the most knowledgeable, helpful and considerate manager I have ever experienced at this location in 27 years. I have used this facility several times and have left previously because the managers forgot about providing quality customer service to its customers. Bob gets FIVE GOLD STARS from my husband and I. If we have an issue and bring it to Bob's attention he resolves it as soon as possible. I recommend upper management for the Extra Space Storage Company give many kudos to Bob. And at the same time, upper management needs to realize it is a manager like Bob that keep customers and bring in new ones. read more

My husband and I rented at this storage unit from 2012-2014, and never had any problems. The manager lives on-site and keeps a good eye on the property. I like that when you go in only one vehicle can go behind you so that they can regulate who comes in and who leaves. Of course the rent was raised a few times, which is typical for any storage unit. Recently we went in to rent again, and within less than 24 hours had to cancel our reservation. The manager, Bob, was very helpful and understanding. We ran into another issue though recently when we were charged again on accident. I called today and spoke with David who was very helpful and got everything fixed right away. When we are ready to move (very soon) we will definitely be renting here again. The only change we have seen since when we used to rent years ago is now they automatically charge your card, as oppose to in the past when you could go online to make your payment. I think most places are going this route though now a days. read more

Have been with storage place on and off for two years and about a month ago I had someone break into my storage. They stole my wedding dress, expensive clothes and Marine Corps documents out of it. Had to call the police and still waiting on insurance company to respond. The insurance only covers 2K. This will not replace my 8K dress and items for winter clothes and designer boots I had. There are homeless and druggies around so beware and make sure you have a good lock to secure your things! When I reported the break in no one knew anything as the managers were in the middle of replacements. Another person who had a storage near my unit said the storage was unlocked for two or three days before I noticed. Yet, not one person in management noticed or called to notify me. read more

I started renting an 8x15 this past month or so. So far it has been great! I definitely had plenty of room to fit my mom's entire 1 bedroom apartment plus my college dorm stuff and more! It has also a very high ceiling, is clean and has sturdy walls, and is easy to access. I needed the unit fast, so I visited was given a tour by Charmane -- who is lovely, friendly, and very helpful-- and got it that second and started moving in that day. I would definitely recommend looking online beforehand and booking a tour online as you will get a better quote, plus you could get deals such as I did (the first month free!). I did a lot of research to find the cheapest but needed size out there, but ultimately went for someplace that was location-wise perfect. I think I got a great price for a great unit, but we will see as the months go on if my rent gets raised a ton as others have said on this site. I honestly hadn't even thought of that until reading other reviews. Things to also note: I bought the locks they had for sale. Expensive, but convenient, if you can buy your own do, but it's not bad if you need it fast like I did. Yes, insurance is mandatory, but it's not that much more or different from what I got quoted from other places. Its about $16 more a month and you are covered from flooding, theft, fire, etc.. up to about $3000. You can pay for extra coverage. Lastly, they are currently renovating their front office, so there is a lot of construction at the moment. But, they just got a new gate and I don't mind the hassle since its nice to have a nicer facility later on. It gets pretty busy there, but I'm going to attribute some of that to the summer crowds and construction, all temporary. read more

Wow, I'd give zero stars if I could. This place has REALLYYY gone down hill. I've used this place 4-5 times in the last ten years and they used to be great. They "upgraded" their gate to one this rises, except the gate never works. 6 cars were stuck in here today for over an hour and we had to call the fire department to get us out because there's only one entry and exit. Talk about a waste of city resources. The "emergency gate line" just dumps you into a voicemail and nobody answered at the private residence on site. read more

I think these guys are very helpful and the units are very clean however there are a few things that they don't disclose when you call and ask about fees. My friend as well as myself have experienced this as when you go in there's insurance but they don't mention over the phone and it is mandatory it is not optional. The admin fee makes perfect sense however they do not make it clear that the insurance is mandatory until you get into the office and then it feels frustrating when they bring that up. read more

A couple of times that we've tried to access our storage it said our access code was denied and when we asked the guy working in the office why he said he didn't know why it said that. Also when we are able to go in, one of the employees is always blocking our storage unit with his car while he hangs out and watches TV in another storage unit. Rates do go up way to often. You think customers who are guaranteed residual income, wouldn't be dinged so often for using their services. DON'T get storage from here. They will raise your rates by $20/month after 5 months, then increase by $100/month after 6 months. In addition, the advertised prices Don't include significant mandatory insurance fees. The staff is decidedly messed up too, the only female worker I've seen, is a blonde diva who all the Male workers...ummm... how can this be said...obviously have an indulgent professional relationship with. This reflects how the whole place is run. Dont rent from here. It's a scam. There's zero customer service, that is...unless your a female or male employee. read more

I don't know why horrible reviews for a Culver City facility are on here; But please don't take any notice of them if you're interested in the Oceanside Blvd facility. I made a reservation on line, and then went in person to check out the facility. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. I was very stressed as I'd been forced into a move I wasn't ready for. Bob showed diligence, good nature, and genuine concern fin finding me the right unit, which was different than the one I reserved, and much better for me. Cindy entered all my appropriate information into the computer for convenience, even though I wasn't going to be returning until a week later to sign everything. The facility was clean, and although the unit numbering system appears to be a bit confusing, I'm sure I'll get used to it. The overall customer service was excellent. If you are considering this facility, don't be nervous about going in person and asking questions, or voicing concerns, I know they will help you in any way they can. . * * * read more

Everyone seems pretty mad at extra space storage on yelp, however I think I should share that I have always had a good experience. The guys at the front desk are always kind to me. They always remember me and my children. I have paid late a few times, but other than a late fee, all was well. It is kinda a pain in the big units with a hall and regular door. Any large furniture is hard to manuver. Also it gets terribly hot in there. Other than that I have NO complaints. Good job guys. read more

Not a fan. I have also experience the frequent rate increases. They messed up my rate from the start and I have seen 2 rate increases in less than 2 years. The entry and exit is strange and I have had to wait multiple times for entry due to vehicles blocking the gate. In addition, my wife and I believe that people are living in some of the units. I have been renting here for quite some time now and while I do agree that in previous years the employees that worked here were not the best, the team that they have assembled at this location now are wonderful. You are greeted with a warm welcome and smile when you go in and they constantly are in contact with you. I had a little mishap where my unit was not paid for while I was in the hospital undergoing cancer treatment and they worked with me not to auction my stuff off. I was extremely informed and felt like they did everything they could for me to keep my unit and get back on track. I would recommend this storage place to anyone who asked me.
