I honestly can't think of an adequate superlative to accurately describe the phenomenal experience I encountered working with Extra Space Storage employee, Jared (North Hollywood /Coldwater location). My unit was literally MINUTES from the auction block. Jared displayed exceptional professionalism and empathy from the very beginning. The previous evening I notified ESS expecting a routine resolution as I needed to pay balance with more than ONE form of payment, but to no avail. The representative was kind and attentive, but extremely busy with other tenants as it was an hour prior to closing. I informed him of my rental status and the urgency that balance is paid. The representative assessed the situation, but asked that I call back the following day to speak with property mgr. I sensed he was not completely comfortable taking multiple forms of payment on a foreclosed account. The next morning I called considerably anxious and doubtful my issue would be resolved in time. I was greeted by ESS representative, Jared. I explained my situation as calmly as possible... considering. Jared's level of customer service, patients, and dedication to resolving my issue promptly and effectively is a testament to the high standards of professionalism and customer focus that Extra Space Storage upholds. I was initially quite happy with my rental unit. However, after being in the unit for 3 months, the rent increased by 55%. $165 to $257 per month, what the heck! I wasn't even notified via email. Keep an eye your snail mail. Beware, they will raise your rent with very little notice by large amounts. I feel scandalized. read more

Had a unit here for a couple years and it was a breeze. Barely had to contact staff, and when I did they were friendly and attentive, helping us fix a sticky door. Not a cheap location, but you're paying for cleanliness, peace of mind with security, and quality management. Would still have it if we didn't move. read more

Wow y'all. The facilities are clean and well maintained. The cameras have fantastic video capability. The prices are incredibly affordable (be sure to check the online deals). Also every single person I've spoke with, both on the phone and in person, have been so professional and infinitely helpful. Especially the store manager Paul. The original unit we got was 5x10. Perfect size, smelled like urine and had stains but the worker there was nice and sprayed it down again. Then we had the storage space for only four months and I got a letter that the monthly rent was being raised from $136 to $191. I wish I could give more stars, but this is a complete bummer and I had to move into a smaller unit for a cheaper price. Extremely inconvenient and this change based on "current market conditions" seems fishy. The people that work there seem cool and this seems like a corporate big business thing. If this happens again, which I imagine it will, I will be changing storage providers. read more

Service has been good thus far. The Agent was very professional, Insightful, Helpful, Personable professional.

I never leave negative reviews, so know they had to do a bunch to get me to this point. We were robbed two days ago and needed to move our valuable stuff from the house (which is an active crime scene) to keep it safe in case the robbers returned. This was on the suggestion of the LAPD officers. We chose Extra Space Storage. Huge mistake. First, there was the incessant upselling during the call--just know when you call to book a space, not only will they spring the cost of additional insurance on you, they will also require you purchase a lock from them--don't expect the advertised price to remain the same. Then, after an hour of upselling, we loaded our valuables into the car and drove to the location after the office closed, but before the 10pm closure time. Well, the gate didn't open. The code that we were given was not 'updated' in their system and we had no way of accessing the unit. The system for updating all new purchases had been down since the previous Thursday, we later found out--this was on a Tuesday. Had the salesperson, Lane, told us about the downloadable app capability to open the gate, this would have been a non-issue. But they didn't. But thankfully! They have an emergency number to call for just this sort of problem. Except once we reached the emergency person, they claimed they had 'no access to our account' and 'no way of helping'. So just to clarify, the number that is specifically for 'gate locked situations' was unable to help us with our gate lock. So now we're in a car full of valuables after hours of talking with police and collecting bloody evidence around our house, and we're told we can't enter and use the storage unit we just paid for. So Heather at the emergency line was no help. And we went back and slept in the active crime scene that had busted doors, because we couldn't afford to leave our stuff unattended. We returned the next day and Paul was so helpful in letting us know that 'Heather should have called him.' Good to hear after the fact that once again, they failed at communicating. But no worries, we finally had access to the exterior, drive-up unit we paid for. Except it was an interior unit. So finally, I called corporate and let Nancy know all of our issues. And Nancy dutifully informed me someone would call me back within 24 hours. I'm sure you can guess whether that happened. Spoiler alert--it didn't. All storage units are awful, but don't give these people your business. read more

Extra Space Storage in North Hollywood is a very clean facility, accessible, easy to use, and competitively priced! We rented there for 2+ years and were always happy with both the facility and the service - whenever we needed assistance. Paul (the Manager) was especially helpful, and always friendly & courteous. Estrella was in the office on our move-out day and was also friendly & polite. I highly recommend you check out this facility if you're in need of temporary storage space! The only concern I experienced with the facility is that the keypad inside the gate doesn't function to get back outside to the front office, so you have to call to get someone in the office to open the gate instead. This is inconvenient for tenants (as well as office staff!) and should be corrected. read more

This is a long overdue review. The manager Paul was very professional and knowledgeable. He made the process painless. The facility has only outdoor storage (access from outside) and is easy to access. The placement of the entry access machine is a bit unfortunate. You have to get out and punch in your code or if you have a passenger, they can do it. But I understand the space limitation and the the layout constraints. I would have liked 24hr access due to my work hours (not many places have that option) but it does close later than most at 10pm. Moving is never fun but thankfully they are affordable and Paul made it as pleasant experience as possible. read more

I came in contact with Paul and Estrella, both of them were very helpful over the phone and once we got there, Paul was very polite and courteous. I've been at this storage facility half a dozen times in the last few weeks. I really appreciate April and her willingness to accommodate me! I was renting a much larger unit but when it was time for me to move back in a smaller unit I reached out to her. She was able to find a storage unit close by so I wouldn't have to lug my stuff too far. Moving is very stressful and she made the process much easier. I have been keeping our production companies truck at this storage for 5 months now. Every day one of our team members comes to pick up the truck to head to work, leaving our personal vehicle locked in the storage gate. At the end Tuesday the 20th night shift, around 1:50am I came to drop off the truck and get my car to head home after a long day of work and the passcode didn't work. It worked the morning of and every day since the start of this job. I called the emergency line (410) 787-7274) since the offices are closed, and the lady, Shelby, told me there was nothing she can do at that hour. No override code, no way of contacting the storage manager. I asked "so I'm supposed to just wait out here all night until someone comes to let me in?" She replied "yes, I'm sorry sir there is nothing I can do". The next day at work we found out that the storage changed the pass code without letting any of us know. Awesome. And so we had them set up a new code and was told everything would be fine that night when dropping the tuck off. Wrong! Once again the code does not work and once again Shelby on the "emergency" line said there was nothing she could do. I asked her, "what if there was a fire or thief, would everyone just act like there was nothing they could do?" Shelby's response was "only if there was a fire or flood, could we contact someone to get in to the space." What kind of customer service is this? What kind of company is this? How can you be ok with locking a customer out of a storage they are paying for leaving them with nowhere to go and no way to get their car? read more

Wow! What can I say about this place! In my six months with this place I had my lock changed/replaced twice (w/o any due notice to me). As one email came AFTER they had already took my lock off and replaced it with their own less secure version and w/the the manager Ken telling me "we sent a letter out to you" which was NEVER received (when they had my email address and direct phone number on file). Then after telling management that I had the high end value ($10,000 I believe is their highest) of goods in my unit while discussing their insurance policies when I moved in, my unit was mysteriously rammed into by a vehicle with their new lock in place and my unit was rummaged thru (plus two others) out of 650 units on site, why just three? I found out about the break-in TEN DAYS later on my own after stopping by to drop some gear off and again no notice was sent out to me after it happened. Hmmmm..Again Ken the manager stated that "the police were called but they never came" after checking with the officers I filed with they stated "we don't just not show up if called". So, at this point I'm letting the police do their investigation and I'll let them sort all this out. In the mean time, if you value what you own, shop elsewhere my friends..... read more

Extra Space storage is the worse storage co. Ever. They will no longer get my business. I pay over $100 a month and receives lousy customer service. Ken Arnold at location, 7400 Coldwater Canyon, North Hollywood, CA is the worse manager ever. He's very disrespectful, he belittled me, he even threatened to evict me even though my bill is paid and current. They also decided to put a red lock on my unit without informing me, after having a nice conversation with the corporate office, they told me I should have been informed. Yet, they do not want to. I am forced to pay for a lock that I had no idea I had to pay for. This policy became mandatory in july, yet extra space NEVER contacted any of their loyal customers about the change. Ken Arnold does NOT represent what it means to have good customer service and he should be fired. After a complaint to corporate no one hasn't responded to me and it's been almost a week. To anyone reading this, do yourself a favor and never rent from this disgusting storage company again. After faithfully paying my bill for almost a year I've been there, they do not give a damn. EXTRA SPACE, my complaint is being put into the Better Business Bureau and I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more
