Great service from management here at this busy location. They have convenient parking with a service alley and a secured gate with limited public access. Check the internet pricing first and work with the office in getting something you need. Management may sometimes have additional not listed online. The only drawback is the units here are not climatized here, but the pricing is market competitive. read more

Nice manager and all, but when he didn't allow us upstairs to lock the unit cause it was after hours, he put his own lock on the unit. Hidden in their agreement is that they can (and do) raise your rent at any time. 2. After ONE MONTH at the advertised rate that I signed up for ($167/mo) they raised it by 50%!!! 3. Without notice!!! 4. Only when I called them on this did they agree to a PARTIAL refund, and would not guarantee future increases would not happen. They will always use the same language: "From time to time customers may be subject to a rent increase due to the competitive blah blah blah." There's no "time to time" about it. They will IMMEDIATELY AND SUBSTANTIALLY GOUGE YOU after you sign up. This *IS* their business model. read more

They still stay open until 8 pm when extra space personnel are not there and no manager living on site . And they want their high price rent for that dump ! Got over robbed and still leaving the place opened for people to stay there and rob the place . Stay away from this Storage!!! My family and I purchased brand new bicycles in the beginning of the year and decided to rent a storage unit so they don't get stollen. Well that was the worse decision we made!!!. We only had 5 months renting a unit at this location and 4 out of 8 bicycles were stolen from our unit. The worse part is that the "main surveillance cameras" does not catch anyone walking out of the storage with 4 bicycles. Why have cameras then? Apparently it's been under investigation and I have not been reached with any updates. When I got the unit I was sold because the manager could not emphasize enough how safe my items would be. Apparently only renters have access to the floor where their units are in and no one else can access that floor. But it seems very suspicious that they cannot find footage nor other evidence of who broke into my unit. Find yourself another storage and stay away from this one!! read more

What a find! Needed a small space for a few months and picked a good one on the first try. There's an old expression, "You can't erase a first impression" and my interaction with Scott at the Hollywood location certainly fits that! He was most welcoming, helpful, full of alternatives, and efficient in handling timing and paperwork. I've made some changes during these few months and they appeared to be just routine stuff for him. Tight, scary entrance; but, Scott and the cameras makes it seem very safe. The units in this place are fine, clean, well lit and easily accessible. They could definitely do with more carts as there's only four for the entire facility and sometimes you have to wait for one. The location is a bit sketchy as some other reviews mention, yes, usually some dodgy looking people hanging around outside but the gate and elevators are operated with a key code so I've never felt unsafe from those people. So one star for the cleaners who do a good job at keeping the facility clean. The unsung heroes. But.. Zero stars for the manager Martin. Wow. He is rude, argumentative, slightly creepy and has a very short temper. Not a nice person. My unit has been sitting empty for 3 months as the last time I was able to come to the facility and remove my lock, upon arrival he told me I wasn't allowed to as I needed to give over a weeks notice so I had to leave it locked. So I've paid hundreds of dollars for an empty unit. At the beginning of this month, I called the main Extra Space phone line and they told me that I COULD of taken off my lock at the original time I wanted to close out my account three months prior, and that the week notice is preferred but not legally essential. Wow, so either Martin lied to me or has no clue about the actual official T&C's of the company. I asked the phone operator to close out my account almost a month ago, which she did. Today I get a message from Extra Space saying my next payment is due. I call the office/Martin to let him know I already closed out the account and I can come right down to get the lock when he immediately starts raising his voice and telling me I can't close it out and need to pay another month. Then he says I can only get my lock if I pay him an extra 5 days as if he's doing me a favor. I explain that I previously let go of the fact he mistakenly told me I couldn't remove my lock 3 months ago and has cost me a lot, but was prepared to let that go and not bring it up, and I don't think it's fair that I'm asked to pay more now and he starts yelling at me. Absolutely unprofessional, aggressive and zero customer service skills. Every run in with him has been awkward, I've felt uncomfortable in the elevator with him by the slimey way he looked me up and down and tried to hug me once. this guy is a jekyl and hyde and I really hope the superiors at Extra Space actually read these reviews and either retrain their staff in essential customer service skills such as politeness, solution based problem solving, truthfullness, learning the T&C's, communication skills, keeping calm, and being respectful, or decides to bring in more professional staff. By the way if you need storage in the Los Feliz area, I highly recommend the new (and much cheaper) place I found called A1 storage in Glendale, where the manager is sweet, professional and kind, Martin could learn a lot from him. read more

WOW where do I start?! Well after skimming a few reviews for this property it seems that everyone has the same opinion as me!! The Manager of the property whose name is MARTIN is an absolute nightmare to deal with, and soooooo unprofessional. My story goes a little like this; I get to the location at 5:30pm on a Friday evening after battling horrible LA rush hour traffic! I rush out of my car and bolt into the office, as I enter the office an associate (female) also very rude and unpleasant, asks me if I am here to make a payment? I proceed to tell her that I have just come from their sister property in Hollywood and was sent to this storage facility because they were unfortunately at capacity and could not meet my storage needs. The lady looks at me with a crazy look on her face as if I had just committed a crime then looks at the clock. She proceeds to ask for my credentials, and I see the manager MARTIN start to roll up the flags and close the lights to the facility....I think to myself hmmmm thats weird its only 5:30PM they have another 30min before they close at 6:00PM???? So I tell him I am interested in purchasing/renting a unit tonight as I will be traveling for the next few weeks. His response to me was: COME BACK TOMORROW WE HAVE TO CLOSE TONIGHT!!!! He goes to me I have been here since 9am and have to start counting the drawer down!!!! I look at him with a puzzled and shocked look on my face, telling him I was just sent over from the other facility. I already know what size, money, and fees are associated with the unit. All that was left for me to do was sign on the dotted line and hand over my hard earned money to this BOZO! But nope he insisted that I come back tomorrow when he will have more time to deal with me!!!!!!! UMMMMMMM how is this guy a manager, he could barely speak the english language!!! (But thats another story) He then starts to threaten me and tells me to leave the property or he is going to CALL THE POLICE!!!!! What a joke this guy is, I mean a real piece of work if you ask me? How is someone going to turn down a potential long term customer that has the capability of spending thousands of dollars at this establishment, just because this guy wanted to start his Friday night off early. I agree with the rest of the comments/reviews at the bare minimum this guy should for sure look into another industry where customer service isn't as crucial!!! So sad to see what a little power/authority can turn into when placed in the wrong hands!! MARTIN you definitely without a doubt should be FIRED!!! read more

There's a weird kind of Algebra with city life. When you live intown, you typically spend more for your rent than you do elsewhere, and in return you get less space. That often means that you need to find storage space...which also follows the same "get less for more" pricing. After LOTS of research, this location is perhaps as good as it gets for the Los Feliz/Silverlake/East Hollywood area. You can get better deals, but you need to drive farther (maybe not by much, but it's nice to have your storage virtually around the corner). This location is pretty clean, seems secure, and has decent service. The only criticism is with how you access the facility. To enter, you have to drive down an alley to get to a secure-code entry gate...but the alley is filled with creepy derelicts that are ALWAYS there. Admittedly, they aren't bothering anybody and they've never said a word to me or whatnot, but still, it's not pleasant having those eyes on you as you are trying to enter a supposedly "secure" building. read more

if you value your money, safety, and dignity... do not rent here or at any Extra Space Storage facility in Los Angeles. They're liars and crooks. RUN. I had a horrendous experience with this facility, the manager Martin R., and with their phone bank staff. First off, this place is NOT SAFE. Right outside the garage doors (which are located in an alley) is a mini tent city full of men drinking and throwing beer cans, shady characters wandering around, transsexual prostitutes and homeless people (many who are high as a kite.) Secondly, I moved in with a 15-foot moving truck, which I pulled into the garage and unloaded. Just 4 months later, I brought the same 15-foot moving truck to move out. Even though there was plenty of room in the garage, Martin wouldn't let my movers pull the truck into the garage. He said there wasn't room (there was). I was never informed that there was a truck size change policy, no emails were sent about this, and there are NO posted signs saying that you can't bring a 15-foot truck inside the garage. But there is Martin R. running and waving his hands wildly and spewing a million words a minute about why you can't put Third, Martin made my movers park 3 feet away from the homeless drunk/drug camp, right outside the storage space gate. That's right- an open moving truck full of all of my belongings is now on display for a bunch of vagrants. I had to sit out there, 3-feet from the homeless camp, alone, while the movers were busy getting my stuff. AND, the extra time my movers spent navigating the gate each time they came down, the bump over the driveway, etc. cost me an extra hour and a half in time and mover fees. Fourth, I complained to the corporate headquarters, once over the phone and once via the lovely survey they sent me about their horrendous service. I was told I'd get a phone call in 24-48 hours. Well. It's been over 48 hours (in business days) and I haven't heard a peep. In short- NEVER. AGAIN. P.S. They raise the rent after 5 months. The interior is old and shoddy and smells. The hallways get skinnier then wider for no apparent reason, making it hard to navigate. ANY OTHER STORAGE SPACE WOULD BE BETTER. read more

I am actually happy to write a positive review for a "storage" facility such as Hollywood's Fountain St. location. When I started with the facility two years ago I had the pleasure of working with a "Kenneth" (since relocated to another Extra Space Storage facility), "Martine", ( manager currently still there) and of course that wonderfully understanding customer service team who made the difference in my case. I have always heard about and dreaded entrusting my life things to a storage facility because of all the horrible stories of loss...well yesterday I could have had my own sad story to add but Extra Space Storage intervene and made me a very happy camper so kudos go out to a storage facility company who showed me that their customers are more than just a unit number. read more

Martin made for a quick and painless check in. I only needed storage for a month while rearranging things while my partner moved in. We got half off the first month, even though he knew I only wanted one month total. The units have doors that swing open, which I prefer to the units with roller doors, because items can shift or fall and jam the roll door... not the case with these! So after paying only $56 bucks for a month of use of 5x5xfull height storage unit, I moved out easily, thanks to the controlled access parking area, so you can leave your vehicle unattended and unlocked without fear of meddling. Minus one star for the fact that there are definitely a lot of shady characters in the alley where you access from, but that's not really something that the owners and operators have much say in. I would definitely return here for storage needs. read more

We had a lot more stuff than we realized and ended up needing to switch the unit we had booked to a larger unit and secure additional space to be able to fit it all--and throughout the whole process Scott & Nadya were super helpful and flexible and kind. I also really like how the security access codes are personalized and allow access only to the floor(s) your unit(s) are on for additional safety. Would definitely recommend! read more

First let me start off and say that this was going to be a one star review... I called their corporate location on Monday to set up a 5x5 space with the first month free as part of their promotion. My information was taken down, I gave my credit card information and was told I was being charged a $10 deposit fee, and everything seemed to have been taken care of. I told the customer service rep. that I would be going in this week and she said that I can go in whenever I want and they will have my information and reservation ready for me. She also told me that I would be getting a call from the manager of this location to touch base. I called Thursday morning to confirm because I had never received a call from the manager. This time I was helped by a different customer service rep. She assured me that I could go in whenever I wanted and that I was all set up. I told her I'd go in today. She gave me their store hours, which ended up being really off. I showed up just in time before this location closed, phew! Well it was all down hill from here. None of my information was on file and I wasn't going to be given the first month free! Luckily their employee, Johnathan, was able to help me out! I can't say enough about how at ease I was because of Johnathan's customer service skills. He's a funny guy but very professional and thorough. I was pretty pissed but within 30 minutes I had my storage space set up. Overall this location is really clean and tidy. (Johnathan was cleaning when I got there.) Street access is great. Glad that Johnathan was able to turn this situation around for me and saved the day! read more

If you enjoy feeling helpless and relish paying over $100 a month for an angry little man to keep your belongings captive in a smaller-than-advertised cubby, then this is the place for you! I am not one of those people who thinks that the customer is always right; I follow the rules and expect fairness in advertising. For example, if the website and automated phone system says the gate hours are until 8pm, you can count on me to be out by 8pm. For some reason, the manager decided to deactivate the (single) elevator at 7:45pm, so I was left on the first floor with a carload of stuff on a dolly unable to access my storage unit. All the stairwells were locked. A massive, androgynous person who seemed to be an employee yelled at me that I had to leave. I showed her (I think it was a her?) my phone with the hours listed on the Extra Space website for this location. She refused to help and I asked for the manager. That's when another androgynous fellow, this one named "Martin," showed up on the scene and proceeded to give zero f#@ks in the rudest way possible. Hey Marty, if you're reading this, remember it's not the customer's fault that Mommy and Daddy didn't hug you enough, or that you have a micro penis. Quit the Napoleon routine and do your freaking job, which is probably the easiest on the planet and happens to involve CUSTOMER SERVICE. That night, I had to lug my stuff back home due to his refusal to help. The next day, the regional manager, Michael, got in touch with me and was very nice (that is why this review is two stars instead of one). He assured me that the elevator and gates should stay open until 8pm. A week later, I went back to my space to grab something I needed and had the same problem. Martin and I got into a shouting match over the telephone and he locked me into the building (!), where I remained for 45 minutes until I reached the district manager on his cell phone, who made Martin do his job. Oh, and did I mention that they screwed up the accounting, so that an extra $100 was charged to my account, making it "delinquent" five days after moving in, and rendering my space inaccessible? Martin contacted me on the phone after I complained to corporate, saying I had to come in with my receipts to correct his employee's mistake. Unbelievable. To those potential tenants out there, don't make the same mistake I did. Heed the negative reviews on this place; they are all true. The alley ALWAYS (100% of the times I've been) has shady characters loitering about, there is often broken glass on the asphalt, the storage spaces are all smaller than advertised (4'x4' is really a 3'x3', and 5'x5' is really 5'x4'), and the on-site management is unapologetically awful. I hope the regional manager has the sense to fire Martin and instead hire someone competent. Not to mention, the only thing keeping thieves out of the spaces is chicken wire at the top, so it would be super easy for anyone to break in and grab whatever. This sketchy place was a headache. First of all I'd like to start by saying that if I could give negative stars, I would. One star is too many for this shit hole. WORST STORAGE UNIT I HAVE EVER RENTED. EVER. The manager, Martin, was so rude and unprofessional. Gave me the wrong number for my unit (my first time visiting since my movers had brought in my stuff) and had me walking around the creepy hallways endlessly for over 15 minutes trying to find a unit number that didn't even exist. Finally found my actual unit number in an email, tried to go back to my car to grab a couple things to put in my unit and I was locked in the garage. Couldn't get out and couldn't go back to my unit because he put a time limit on my entry code! I was so scared being locked in a place like that especially in that area of town. There is trash everywhere and homeless people sitting right outside the gate of the garage. Feeling like a prisoner, I immediately called the office to get a hold of Martin and he came into the garage. This mean angry man (Martin) proceeded to tell me it was my fault that the unit number HE wrote down on the card was incorrect. An apology would have done just fine for his simple mistake, but instead he was rude and made me feel so uncomfortable after yelling at me and calling me named to the point that I had to call customer service. When I come to a place that I PAY FOR to store my belongings I do not like to be called names and yelled at by the manager. I have not even been back to my unit because I do not want the run in to this horrific person. To make matters even worse - which I didn't think was possible - after I called customer service to complain, (which was pointless because they didn't do anything to compensate for the way I had been treated) Martin the Troll proceeded to CALL ME and yell at me more after I left, I hung up on him and he CALLED ME BACK AGAIN to harass me. I cannot believe this troll is still employed by this company. Martin - you should be fired. Every review on this site is about you and your horrible customer service, your rude demeanor and overall nasty attitude. Not only is the manager and customer service terrible but some how every month I have new fees on my bill and I get charged a late fee even if I pay on the day my bill is due! If your bill is due on the 15th and you pay on the 15th you will be charged a late fee even though you're paying on the day your bill is due. I have never felt so uncomfortable and disrespected in a situation in my entire life. WORST PLACE EVER. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. read more

This facility is great! It feels safe and secure; well maintained; friendly staff; and the best part is you can unload within the garage, so if it's raining, which it was when I was unloading, your stuff doesn't get wet. The only drawback is the neighborhood is a bit shady. There was a girl on drugs stumbling and rambling on the streets with no bottoms on, and a sketchy neighbor asking if any of our stuff was for sale as we were unloading it. The Manager, Martin R., barely speaks English and has been very disrespectful to my partner and I several times we have been there. They raise your rate at 5 months, then again a 2nd time at 10 months - over a 10% increase each time. Who does that? They De-activated the code to the side door, and now I have to go through the garage where the cars and vans go - a safety hazard since I am always on foot. The building is old and musty and the elevator is sometimes out I've found. The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is because they are near me in Hollywood and there are no other storage places nearby so it's kind of convenient. I am going to move out to Public storage before my 2nd rate increase. Public storage has larger spaces for less money, only raises you once a year AFTER the 1st year, and does not force you to buy the "mandatory" 10-/month basic (2,000- coverage) insurance. read more
