Been using Extra Space Storage on Santa Monica for my job since September and I'm a pretty satisfied customer thus far! Took a couple stars off for a few minor things, but you should know that this place is pretty rockin as far as storage spaces go and the staff members are really excellent. PROS: -Right off the 101 -Wendy and Ray are the BEST! They call every time we get a package! -They let me bring my puppy Mikey (and even remember his name) -Clean restroom in the office -Lots of security cameras CONS: -The dumpster is locked and you need to get permission to open it/throw stuff away. -Found anti-rat/mouse stuff around there multiple times. I HATE rodents and this makes me fear that they are around there somewhere even though I have yet to see one. Let's hope it stays this way. -Random bugs that are gross have been spotted once in a while. Ew. read more

This place is great. Secured gated access, plenty of parking, HAND TRUCKS!!! for easy moving, and the storage units are indoors so you don't have to worry about the weather effecting your belongings. Susan is amazing. She accommodated all my needs and is super nice. She makes the process so unbelievably easy. When I rented the place, it took less than 30 minutes to be show the different unit options and to get set up in my own storage unit. I just moved to LA from Florida and placed about $20,000 worth of stuff in this storage unit in good faith, The security who signed me up ensured my stuff was safe and they have only had water damage. I went back a week later to find my lock bent and scraped with all my things stolen. Identity, laptop, iPad, about 15,000 in designer clothes Louis Vuitton backpack etc... Wendy and Ray are really nice and helpful. I kept my stuff at Extra Space for almost four years and everything stayed clean and safe and getting stuff in and out of my unit was really easy. I would definitely rent there again. Rates are decent but they do fluctuate (mostly go up) for long term rental, so every five months for newer rentals/customers or every nine months for long term rentals/customers. read more

I rented a unit from this location when I was moving to LA and had way too much stuff. Raymond and Wend, the managers on-sit, are always super helpful. The day I arrived, my friend was also renting a unit, but she was held up and would not arrive until after the office closed. In order to facilitate our move-in, they were able to put both units under my name and the next day we transferred my friend's unit to her name. Lifesavers! This set the tone for what I expected and received in terms of customer service, cleanliness, security and convenience. Raymond always remembered me when I walked into the office. I even got a call from Wendy when I had failed to lock my unit properly! I highly recommend this location and will use again if required. read more

Through my 10 years in LA, I've utilized many different storage units from different storage companies for both business and personal use and THIS location was BY FAR THE WORST. The heavyset manager, Ray, is a smarmy, creepy, despicable person who, at first, feigns politeness. But each time you return, he gets nastier. You'll learn soon enough that he's not on your side - he's out to get you - whether it be to talk down on you, charge you erroneous fees - not deal with legitimate problems with respect and understanding when brought up - like the time I saw a damn COCKROACH crawl out of the unit next to me. The entire place smells and feels eerie. The whole experience was just shy of a horror film. If you want to live in terror, then get a unit here and deal with Ray, the "manager". If Extra Space new what they were doing they would get rid of him, as others have stated almost the exact experience as me. Wendy, the live-in caretaker of the property, was also nutty, but at least she was occasionally nice and helpful. But she can be no better than Ray, as they conspire together. Seriously, the most terrible "landlord-tenant" situation I've been, and will never use Extra Space again because it sickens me so much. Ten million thumbs down and negative stars. read more

This place is amazing. I found out I had to put my stuff in storage about 24 hours before I was supposed to be on a plane and gone from LA for 2 months. Ray in their office got me set up with a bigger space than I needed for only $1/mo more, gave me the first month free (a walk-in special), and gave me the internet prices even though I was a walk-in. Best of all, he gave me 24-hour access for one night to get moved in. Usually 24-hour access is only available to commercial accounts. Wow! Ray is the best! He also waited patiently as my insurance company took nearly an hour to verify my preexisting renters insurance. The unit itself is very clean. It's not lighted, but there's plenty of light to see. Ceilings are very high--unit is extremely roomy. Couldn't be happier!! read more

It's clean, great location and Wendy the manager is very gracious. A few things I don't like is that it's not air conditioned which during the summer it's very warm in the hallways. The other thing I don't like is that Wendy charged me the highest rate until I told her I looked online, then she went online and gave me a better rate. I was also very dissappointed to find out that after only renting for 5 months my payment has now gone up $15 more!! I think that's not fair, especially since I upgraded in the middle of my first month. I paid to start over, and I paid more for the 2nd unit. I have rented storage units before in the past and I believe each company is different. My last company was far more flexible price wise. I would tell friends to compare other companies. read more

I was referred to Extra Space Storage by another vendor that dld not have space at their location. I liked the email confirmations from Extra Storage and my initial visit to the site was stress free. Raymond orientated me to the billing process, took me to see the unit and assured me my move in would be stress free. On my moving day I was able to have my movers park in front of the entrance and load off my contents and load into my storage unit in about an hour. I recommend this site for storing your personal belongings for a short or long term period of time. read more

Wendy and Ray are so helpful and very professional and extremely nice. The service and prices are GREAT! BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Manager is rude and unhelpful. Their operation is disorganized. I was turned away for business past 5:30pm although the office is supposed to be open until 6pm. The rude employee advised that he's there alone and plans to be out of there by 6pm and to come at 5:30pm. Call center gave the wrong hours information. Why deal with such a place when there a so many other options?? Also their price points are not competitive. AVOID THIS PLACE if you value good helpful service and cooperation. I have used storage facilities on the Westside, and in NYC and all I can say is this place does not seem on the up and up. The first space I reserved was big enough but my large piece of furniture couldn't fit through the turn in the hallway, so I was obliged to take a larger (much more expensive) space than intended. I had little choice standing there with movers paid by the hour. The customer service, if you can call it that, is terrible. Read all of the fine print very carefully before signing anything, having to do with rates, penalties etc. I should warn anyone that if you are late on the bill by days the fees rack up like crazy, which would be fine if they sent bills on time and the payment amount was the same for two consecutive months. read more

He helped me find the perfect size for my needs. The location is also a lot nicer than some of the facilities I have seen elsewhere. I went in to get a quote on a 5 x 10 storage space- I have had 5 x10 before so I know what the space looks like. I was shown what looked to be a 3 x 7 for almost $250 a month. Two blocks away I was quoted $165 for a 6 x 13, which looked to be actually 6 x 13. When I mentioned to the customer service representative (who was polite by the way, so I'm not putting anything on him) why they would say this space was 5 x 10 when it most definitely was not, he replied that all spaces were an "approximation." This to me seems unethical, as does the high price of the space. Just writing this post as a heads up to prospective storage space renters. read more

Based on the positive reviews here, we thought this would be our best choice for local storage. We signed up online and reserved a space late on Saturday afternoon. Shortly thereafter we realized that the office was closed on Sunday and therefore we would need to hurry and get over to the facility before 5:30 to be sure to be able to move things this weekend. We raced across town and arrived at 5:25. Wendy, the store manager was there and I explained to her that we had hurried to make it before they closed and we wanted to complete our paperwork so that we would be able to move our boxes in on Sunday. She said "NO." Followed by "I don't work overtime, I won't do it today." Then she told us she was closed, even though her clock did not yet say 5:30. We asked her to please quickly take us through and she repeated "I am not working overtime, it's a 20 minute process." Perhaps she doesn't realize that customer service counts and that turning away paying customers because you can't bear to stay 15 minutes past closing is not the way to run a business. If they were open on Sunday, perhaps I could have looked past this overtly rude behavior. But they are not. I asked her to refund my money for the deposit and to cancel my reservation. She said, "I'm sorry" as we were leaving. She was not. I will be taking my business elsewhere, because someone this inflexible and shortsighted is not someone I care to do business with ever. read more

The facility is clean and secure, and the staff is helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. I never had any problems in 2 years of having a space there. I probably had to access the space more often than most, and every time I was there it was clean and well maintained. Highly recommended. read more

My son rented a unit from them because they promoted on their website that they have managers living on site and 24/7 security cameras on all units. Since he just moved to Los Angeles, he needed a secured place to store his valuables. He had a small padlock that was told by one of their staff that it was sufficient because this storage place was a very secured one. A week later, on a Saturday evening, my son went to his unit to pick something up. When he arrived, he found the lock broken but put back to make it appeared locked but inside, everything was gone except a t-shirt on the floor. My son called the police and they were looking for a manager or anyone on site but there was no one o site. We contacted the storage company and all they said was that if the police or the insurance company have any questions, they can contact them. When we mentioned for them to look at their security camera videos, they didn't seem interested at all in doing that or doing a full investigation on this matter. I can't comprehend how a company in the business of securing others valuables is not interested in getting down to the bottom of such gross incident. This young man trusted their word! Beside being robbed of all that he owned, they stoll his ss card and passport which creates a potential stolen identity situation.
