Do NOT come here if you want to be treated with basic respect. I purchased a storage unit online and my husband went to pick it up. The manager, a younger woman (I think named Tetra), was very rude and disrespectful to my him when he entered the office. She barely acknowledged his presence and acted as if it was an inconvenience for her to help him. (Isn't that your job?) Then, she told him to wait so she could help another customer who came in AFTER him because he paid $4k for a larger unit. My husband told her he didn't have all day to wait and she replied rudely and said that she can give him his money back. (We already paid a deposit and money to the auction company so we would have been losing money if he left.) Then, she took her time and he was in the office for almost an hour just to complete some simple paperwork! I honestly think my husband was treated poorly because he is a minority and non-native English speaker. I spoke with someone from the company today and he was very apologetic. I hope my concern gets forwarded to the district manager. This is a terrible way to treat a customer and beyond disgusting behavior! read more

Five stars to the gentleman who worked there and assisted me when I moved in, he was very pleasant. However, one star goes to the company because they started charging me on the day I called and made a reservation NOT from the day I moved in. Secondly, I have only rented the unit for two months and have already received a notice of a substantial rate increase! I wasn't getting any kind of "special" startup temporary discount rate or anything, otherwise I would have expected this. They must figure once you've moved in it's inconvenient to move out which it is, but I don't want to do business with a company that functions like this. Bad business practices and I plan on getting a unit soon with a different company. read more

The place has a creepy feeling to it. I was shown a small 5 X 7 unit, (by an even creepier man), that was buried deep on the property. When we got to the building and upstairs, most of the lights didn't work, extremely dark. It was filthy and smelly. Walls looked they were never painted. They were filthy. And it smelled so bad.... so bad, I can't describe it. It was seriously disgusting. Not to mention scary. I checked a few more places & quickly realized it's worth it to pay $20 more per month for a clean, bright, no smell storage facility. I chose Security Storage on Slater Ave. I'm happy to pay the extra $20 per month not to feel disgusted & horrified every time I go to the unit, which isn't often. Pay a little more, have peace of mind. NOTE: This place offers a discount to the customers that right a positive review. I'm guessing that's the reason they have positive reviews. read more

I have a 10x15 and they have doubled the price in 14 months. If you store your stuff here they will gouge you.

The facility is great but I believe they are incredibly dishonest about their pricing. We got the unit at a discounted rate monthly, and were told that because of the discounted rate that we weren't eligible for the "first month free" promotion. 2 months into renting we got a notice that our rate had gone up $20 per month!!! That's insane and a total bait and switch after we have already moved all of our stuff in we obviously aren't going to move it out. read more

So far so good! I called a couple of weeks ago to compare prices and the larger units are cheaper than other places from what I found. I said I was looking to move in in a couple of hours (super last minute) and Sean the assistant manager was very accommodating. Sean showed me the unit I was originally looking at and when I told him my concerns, he found me a different unit that was much better. Great service so far! ***update: just closed out our storage unit as we moved out of state. Our overall experience was good. I did have an issue with some bugs in the heat of summer after they did some spraying. I brought the issue up to management and they were very helpful in making sure the issue was resolved. read more

Using a storage unit was a foreign concept to me. But after deciding to move back to OC from Portland, I was struggling a bit with the timeline in terms of lining up a new place and new job. I didn't want to get a place then end up working far away from it, plus there's that whole salary verification thing that most leases require. On a walk back from the Rose Garden to my place after a Blazers game, my friend told me to just move back and put everything in a storage unit (well, she also told me to travel the world and use the unit while I'm away). And with that, the rest is history... I searched online and located Extra Space Storage. The website provides a demonstration of what fits into each size, and for many units the first month is free. After going with Extra Space and booking online, I got a call from the manager within about 15 minutes thanking me for my business and answering any questions I might have. While residing in various temporary living quarters, my unit served as my closet and garage (guess you can tell by how many check-ins I have). Although I didn't purchase a climate-controlled unit, every time I went inside (even on 80 degree days) it was cool in the hallway. I never had any concerns about safety, from the staff and other tenants everyone seemed normal. I was also able to manage my account online. I gave my notice of intent to vacate online, and went back to the front desk to check-out and all they did was ask if I took the lock off my unit. And with that, our relationship ended. I went to pick up a dresser at 9am and the guy on duty treated my husband and I like criminals and wouldn't let us onto the property, even though I had a key and my name was on the account. The other gate was open and my husband wanted to drive through the open gate (like everyone else was doing) and we were told we can't even walk onto the property. yall know what I am saying.. it's Orange County... He did try to be nice after my (white) friend called and told him that I was on the account but we were still treated unfair initially. Found mice in all our stuff in storage. We reported it to extra space office and showed them pictures of all the mice droppings clearly visible outside many units as well as how it was all inside our boxes. They didn't care, no expression of any interest or concern at all to help or rectify this issue. They make you pay top dollar. Yet if they were doing their job they would have easily seen all the rat droppings in front of customers units. read more

I never had such a bad experience with a storage space like this. We decided to put our business merchandise in storage. The unit got broken into and a lot of merchandise was taken. We called the police and when they arrived they were suggesting to move to another storage facility since they had so many break ins. I was not able to send out my merchandise and lost a tin of business. I asked the manager also if he could review the tapes from the security camera pointing to the exit of our unit. Of course that has never happened. I assume that they are just duds and not actually recording anything, or a lack of the manager to do it. I was not able to pay for the unit after the break in and was waiting for the insurance claim to come in. I got to say what happened after was the worst customer service that I have ever experienced. Warren the manager refused me access to my unit despite him knowing of what has happened. He made copies of my ID and took a picture of my car, very unpleasant. I am not sure if it a power trip or what his problem was. I came back to pay the remainder of the fees that were due so that I would have access to my merchandise. I told him that his behavior was very unprofessional and asked him for upper management so that I could file a complaint. Of course he refused to give me that information. He then threatened me to seize the unit with its contents for the previous non payment and that it would be his right to do so. I am sure that this is not the case. Then he would still not let me enter because I did not bring a lock. So I left and bought it when I got back he told me to pay a certain amount and that I got 24 hours to retrieve my belongings. I will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and also follow up to see what else can be done in this matter. This is not acceptable. read more

There are 2 signs on each end of the property & they say FIRST MONTH FREE ....But when you ask the price &/or rent units they say "based on availability". Soooooo that REALLY seems like FALSE advertising. Take the signs down if the discount is not being offered! Also, the material in the units used for walls brush off on EVERYTHING, touch the wall with your stuff, it's covered in what appears to be sawdust, like it's breaking down, like you had it in there a century, not a few weeks. read more

I needed a storage space to keep some of my things for a while. I wanted it to be near my home, affordable, and secure. I called to ask questions and found out that there is someone almost always on site. The night manager lives above the office. That was good enough for me. When I went to put my things in the space I'd rented, I was extremely pleased to find that there are elevators, carts for my use, and the spaces are climate controlled. I also found the employees to be helpful and friendly. He showed me the space and explained about the carts and elevators and everything else. I like keeping my treasures in this place. Warren runs a tight ship over at Extra Space. I've rented two different units from them. I also know several others who rent from them. We're all very happy with the way they handle things. I moved my business from my garage into a small warehouse space here. Warren helped me get started and really made things go smoothly. I met with other managers on different properties, and nobody made me feel like "Yeah, this is where I want to rent." Until I met these guys. No shady deals. Everything had to be legit, insured, etc... Just a smart way to do business. I felt I couldn't trust some of the landlords who didn't care what you were doing on their property as long as you made rent. So after my first year lease was up, I was ready to expand. I looked no further than moving into a store-front unit on the same lot. Warren and Keith again did everything they could to help me. The expense and time consumed in expanding a business is crazy. At least they alleviated some of the stress. I realize it's strange to write a nice review about your landlord, but I just wanted to say thanks. Keith and Warren are so nice and extremely helpful! I just lost my mother and she had a unit with them, they were so kind when they found out she had passed and extremely understanding. I live out of state and had to wait 45 days after her passing to come back to town for something else. I had a terrible experience with another storage unit place and was so scared I was going to have a similar experience with them.... I am so glad they were nothing like the other place. From the moment I walked in until I left and moved all of her stuff out, I was pleasantly surprised with the great customer service and genuine kindness they displayed. I received a response from Extra Space Storage. Based on the response, they either don't care or can't read. The responded telling me they require all the storage units to have a lock. Having a lock was not the issue. The just received new doors which come with a lock which means I did not need the 2nd lock they told me to purchase and refused to let me return. The bigger issue that they failed to address completely is that they overcharged me by 50%. read more
