You can tell that each facility is independently owned and operated. This one in particular uses lower rental storage fee to draw in customers. The overall security of the building is unsafe. There are no external security cameras near the entrances of the inside storage buildings entrance. Once inside, the current own provides outdated, broken hand carts that barely work. You would think investing a few dollars into work carts would be a good idea, these carts made moving items not easy. Once inside, the ability to go to any floor is wide open. Any other storage facility requires you to still reenter a security code to get to your floor, this one doesn't. No security cameras in the elevator. Parking your vehicle in order to get to your storage is cumbersome and not efficient. You have to park your car on a narrow lane, which is uneven and makes rolling the hand cart out difficult as it just rolls away if you try to walk away from it to get your items. The day I went, there were 4 cars parked in the lane and only one entrance into the building. Overall, the price was what drew me, but shame on me for now doing a physical check of the place first, because I would have rather paid a bit more for overall safety and an updated facility. I would use another storage place, don't bother unless location is one on your list. read more

Jenna was a super star in signing us up for leasing a 10x10 unit. She clearly explained the whole process and didn't leave any details out. The team was super helpful in giving us a great tour and the grounds are quite large. I would highly recommend this space to anyone. I did buy the monthly insurance for $47 which covers only up to 10k. I saran wrapped all of my belongings are an extra precaution and advise others if they want to do the same. read more

What's the best use of your time, when you have nothing to do? It's helping your friend move! Yeah! I mean what could be better. She needed help and asked so I made the trip out east of Manhattan with her and a few of her friends. She put her stuff in "Extra Space Storage" and the location wasn't hard to find. When we got there she didn't remember where the storage unit was, but the wonderful staff pointed us to the right direction. The lady working there was amazing. When we need help, she was available. Looking around on the way to the unit, I noticed this place was very clean. It was climate controlled, on the second floor, but it was a bit cold. My friends unit was on the first floor. We got her stuff and while there a gentleman getting his stuff, offered my brother a pretty nice shelf. If I need to store my stuff, I would definitely use this location, I only hope someone gives me something, if I do. read more

I agree with another review about raising rates on you. I got my 5'x10' storage in April 2023 for 65$ (+11$ insurance). August, only 4 months later, I have a 106$ (+11$) bill with no notice in my app about why! I finally found a tiny piece of mail that says the rate changed due to "current market conditions". I looked at other places nearby right now and all rates are 70-90$ for same size and conditions. I can't believe how much it increased and no advanced notice about the 63% increase that I needed to budget for. On their website for same location, same conditions, same size, the web rate is 59$ right now... even less than mine was when I signed up on website. It doesn't make sense. I was also upset in April with this process because I was told things that weren't true by a phone agent who called me when I first reserved a unit through the website. My first question was about the storage having late night access, which was answered and explained extensively about how to get it. It was the entire reason I chose this place (to be able to go after work). I wouldn't have signed the contract if I knew they do not allow late night access. The manager on site helped me after a very long conversation about this, but the help was very brief. I did appreciate it anyway but I was still lied to by an agent. With with this increase now too, I am looking to move elsewhere. I've rented many storages in my life but never a 41$ increase in a single month. In my experience, other places have done an increase once every 6 months, maybe 5-10$. If I stay 4 more months, am I going to see another increase?? That's what's going to though my head right now. Other than these negatives, which are major issues to me, I found the place to be clean in my short time there and the few conversations I've had with the manager were helpful. I wish they didn't do this to customers because I actually liked this facility a lot more than my last place. Only writing this review, so other customers can make informed decisions. Probably among the worst storage facilities on Long Island. Not so much the units themselves, but the staff--unhelpful, rude, dishonest. In addition, the rates go up so often, it became impossible to afford. They claim that they call and leave voice-messages, but IF they call, they must be calling from different phones each time; none ever register as Extra Space Storage--all must be private numbers because they are "unrecognized". The "carts" for customers are almost never available, are in terrible condition, and inadequate. The temperature is poorly controlled, and the hallways are ridiculously narrow. Vermin? Plenty of it-- they have traps set, but mice or rats at their way through the bottoms of boxes in my unit. read more

Avoid. It's all about the money. The rates go up and up. I dealt with it for years but got fed up. Honestly, stay away. When I moved my items out there I later discovered water damage to a number of things. There must have been a leak at some point and a puddle on the floor. So far in less than a year already the rates when up. Other than the unit, services are non-existant. I can never find a dolly. The one time I did, it had no handles. So I have to lug heavy stuff into the elevator up to the third floor or vice versa. Not a single garbage can anywhere. Locked bathrooms! Give me a break. I've rented with this chain in two locations, Hicksville NY and Coram NY for almost 20 years (since 2009). The only thing I can say they are consistent at is raising prices. You don't receive any advance notice via correspondence that their rates are going up; at this point it's out of control. They don't notify you about changes in policy as far as if you decide to move out, and it's not done in five days from your due date, you still have to pay the ENTIRE MONTH. To me, that's just pure greed for money. No wonder people like myself are finding other storage solutions. Let's see how long that lasts in keeping customers. News flash Extra Space - you're getting more competition out there so customers don't have to a settle anymore. Can't wait to be totally finish with you guys. read more

They are completely nice when you were first signing up the place is clean everything seems okay, but they are a little hazy with their insurance policy. I say this because they use the word requirement for you to have insurance on the unit yet it actually is optional. I only know this is optional because somebody who has rented units for years told me that this is a business so business is always are required to have their own insurance so it is a scam that they require you to pay extra per month for your own insurance. So I was told I could cancel it but not until the next day cuz it was too late and I could just call the store so when I called the store the next day they said yes you can cancel but you have to come in so again hazy on the information. Now I did take my time and going to take the insurance off and oh what a convenience a week later I get a notice that they're raising my rates. I went online and saw that there starting rate was now $64 but my letter says that my rate is being raised $13 because of Market condition and changes. So online there is a area of course to contact them so I did so and they told me they would have the local store call me back. The store just called me back I find it convenient on many levels that he said it was just a coincidence that the rate went up right after I canceled that he knew that I had wanted to cancel the insurance when I had signed up so what they make a note in the system so they are ready for you to come in so they're ready to raise your rate is that it? Because I dont believe he remembers me from may till now about me wanting to cancel in May. And there's nothing they can do about rate changes I was warned that rate changes could happen every 6 months. How I wish I looked on Yelp sooner to see that they are very good at raising rates. After leaving a negative review I was invited to call 888-storage to address the issues. When I called, I ended up talking with a receptionist at the very facility in question. She asked me about my review and consistently interrupted and spoke over me, and then without warning simply handed me off to the manager, Daquan. Evidently the policy is to interrupt callers and to deny any of the problems indicated. For ex. on the issue of having only 2 carts for an entire building, I was told "you can come down here right now and see that we have four." But not once in the past year have there been more than 2 carts for the bldg. My rates keep going up--within the same year!--and the services are next to zero. There is no reason to use this place. Prices are NOT low, and for the same price or a few dollars more at facilities nearby, you'll get HELPFUL staff, plenty of carts and hand-trucks, climate control that actually works, bathrooms that are actually open and working, and rates that lock in so you don't get surprised every few months. read more

Met with James at the Hicksville, NY facility who was so friendly and helpful and completed my paperwork promptly. BED BUGS!!!! They have bed bugs, we stored our stuff for over a year and had bed bugs in our futon. Don't store there, we had to throw away our stuff and the company did nothing for us. No apology or compensation what soever. DON"T STORE THERE read more

Bring in your stuff and when you leave, fumigate or bring vermin to your home. They are supposed to fumigate every month but they are not doing it. My antique furniture was ruined. Very dissapointed with this facility. read more
