Their answer was, "You've got the best right down the road from you." They were correct. Davis was very good, and the price was right. I haven't had the need for a moving company in the past 24 years, but remembered how good they once were and decided to give them a call for an estimate for an upcoming move. A representative did set an appointment and came to the house, and fairly quickly I had an estimate. Some time passed and my wife and I decided to pare down the number of items we were going to move, partly to lower costs. I then called Walton P. Davis to ask them to return in order to reassess our move since so much had changed. I left message after message and was finally told that the sales rep I had been dealing with was tied up in Manhattan with meetings and that he would call me at the end of the week. I said I understood and waited for the call back. Figuring that a message may have been lost in the shuffle I decided to call again. The person I had been speaking to for weeks answered the phone and said again that the rep had been busy but that he'd asked her to call me to put me at ease, and that in fact he would be calling me. That was 2 weeks ago. Now, I might have been born at night, but I wasn't born LAST night. I can tell when I'm being put off. The only thing I can't figure is WHY. Trust me when I tell you that this company has changed drastically over the years, and not for the better. At this point, I'd have to be nothing but stupid to do business with them. Evidently, any quality of service or representation they may once have had is long gone. Do yourself a favor and spend your time researching movers that are not named Walton P. Davis. Useless. I feel I've dodged a bullet by not hearing from them. Shame, too, because I absolutely like to patronize local businesses, Especially ones that I know were once very good, and especially ones that are literally 30 seconds from my door.

Brilliant for corporate profits--not so brilliant for the people paying the bill. A lot of people who need storage are already downsizing, selling their homes, or struggling financially because of today's economy. So naturally, the solution is to keep increasing their storage costs. Because why not squeeze a little more out of people who are already struggling? READ THE FINE PRINT. Then read it again. That attractive introductory price is apparently just the honeymoon period. The facility is clean, but that's about where the compliments end. I left a message at the Whitman location and waited two or three days for a response. Apparently, customer service is stored somewhere off-site too. Public Storage: customers are people, not walking ATMs. Maybe try remembering that. Shame on you. Do better. And to anyone considering renting: BEWARE. Ask questions, watch those rate increases, and don't assume that the price you're promised today is the price you'll be paying tomorrow.

They charge $10 for storage insurance , $20 for a lock, $25 for administrative fees and a bunch of other tag ons that I don't even remember like keys and key fobs. The worst of it all, the guy taking your information is slow as molasses. So the entire process takes about 30+ minutes of time while your truck rental sits and waits. They won't give you the key until they're done so your friends can't even be helping while you're inside. And after I wait for the slowest typer on the island to finish he says oops it didn't save. I hope I can find my next place quickly so I can cut my time with them incredibly short.

Only recently was I offered a reimbursement that doesn't even cover half the cost of a single item from the box. What's more concerning is the lack of accountability. No proper inventory was taken at the time of the move, and I was never told that their team should have been responsible for boxing and backing up items in order for coverage to apply. Without that transparency, it feels like customers are left unprotected if something goes wrong. For anyone considering movers, I would recommend Piece of Cake instead, they were half the price and, based on my experience, far more reliable.
