On my second trip, I was told to come back because the manager was not on the premises. (Why they were unable to use the phone and call for assistance is still a mystery.) On my final trip, the saleswoman once again informed me that the manager was not on the premises also letting me know she did not know how to do the transaction required, and became defensive and belligerent... It was a simple return. Why would a manager leave someone in charge who was so obviously unqualified to do the job? Three negative experiences were more than enough to convince me to find an alternative shipper and supplier.

I even called Bob Thursday to ask if the movers could make a second stop to drop a few things off at my sisters house while they were in Maryland. She is only living about half a mile away from my mother, but even then I thought I was asking too much. Not for Bob! He said it would not be a problem, and the extra charge was very reasonable. When the Irish moving crew arrived, they took care of everything! Even though they were not expecting to wrap and pack various pieces of art, plates, and trinkets, they did so with a smile. Both men were extremely professional, courteous, and fast. They had my mother's things packed and onto their truck within two hours. They called me from the road to update me on their progress, and they alerted a staging company as to their arrival time so the staging company could meet them at my mother's assisted living facility. They called me from the assisted living facility to clarify my sister's address, and they made the second stop at her house as well. They promised me that someone would call the day before the move to let me know what time they plan to arrive. That never happened. Dave the snake oil salesman promised me that they would disassemble my furniture no problem because they hire expert furniture people to disassemble & reassemble furniture. However, after all my furniture was removed from my home, they told me I would need to pay an additional $420 to have my armoire reassembled in my new home. My contract states that the move would take between 3 - 7 days. On day 8, not only did I not receive my furniture & belongings, but it was Saturday and the offices are closed and I have no one to talk to or get answers from. I called & texted Dave but he never returned any of my calls or messages. I spoke with someone at First Class movers who were hired to unload the truck at my new home, and they said they would look into it, but they too never called back. If this is the way North American & Arnoff treats their customers, I would think twice about hiring them to do a move. I wish I knew sooner, but I thought with 100 years in the moving business they would be a reputable company to do business with, boy was I wrong.

We moved this summer from a three-bedroom apartment to a five-story townhouse with no elevator, and they made what could have been an incredibly stressful move with three kids feel completely manageable. They're a wonderfully old-school company with traditional administration (payment is by certified check), and from the start they were professional, thorough and straightforward. An estimator came out in person before quoting us, which I really appreciated, and the price was very reasonable. The packing team came the day before and was careful, organized and courteous throughout. On move day, a thunderstorm hit just as they were unloading. The crew was soaked through while carrying furniture and boxes up 60 steps to the fifth floor, yet there wasn't a single complaint or grumble. They stayed upbeat, focused and on task, and took every precaution to protect both our belongings and our newly finished floors. I was genuinely amazed by their professionalism, care and sheer endurance in such difficult moving conditions. The biggest surprise was that our final bill actually came in lower than the estimate. That level of honesty and integrity really stood out and perfectly reflected our experience with them from beginning to end.
