I started renting a small unit when it was still Simply Storage. Public Storage is the absolute…read moreworst. They raised rent twice in nine months - a total 76% increase. The latest increase was the last straw, so I scheduled my move out, received two confirmation e-mails, and moved out on the scheduled date. They attempted to charge my card for an extra month even though I turned off autopay to prevent that. Fortunately, I use vendor-specific cards from Privacy.com so I had also "paused" the card which protected me and declined the transaction. The e-mail where they tried to extort an extra month's rent did not have a valid reply address, so you have to call them. I didn't bother with the corporate number as I've done that in the past and had a terrible experience. I called the local number and left a message, which is your only option since they do not answer the phone. It looks like they removed the fraudulent charge but didn't bother to return my call. I guess it is corporate policy to never admit fault. I hope to get rid of excess stuff so that I never need a storage unit again, but if I do I will certainly steer clear of Public Storage and never use them again! P.S. By the way they will do everything they can to automatically enroll you in their overpriced insurance coverage. You almost certainly do not need it if you have homeowner's or renter's insurance at your dwelling. This is pure profit they tack onto your already-overpriced rent.

I wanted to use my own lock, but they said I was required to buy theirs... a cheap barrel lock with very little to secure the latch. Now they tell me I'm out of luck because I have moved my belongings out already. I moved the day before my next $252 charge was going to hit. They stole EVERYTHING of ANY value and basically left my clothes and some dishes. TV, PC, stereo, surround sound system, laptop, $350 window AC, $500 mountain bike, $1000 in high quality cookware, not to mention all of my personal paperwork including my medical records... ALL gone! Worst storage on earth! Don't rent here if you want to keep your stuff!

The units are well maintained and I do appreciate the cleanliness and care of the grounds. But I have discovered that the owners of the storage unit are responsible for yearly price increases on their customers and these employees do not have control of this. Unfortunately, the owners seem out of touch with the customers who do have problems with annual increases.
