Helping a friend move some stuff into this place I was really impressed. All indoor storage, they offer moving carts to haul your stuff inside to your unit. Elevators have codes that ensure that people aren't able to just go in and roam around. Storage units vary in size from pretty small to very large. The entire space is very clean and well organized. Never ran into any staff so not sure what those interactions are like. I think you have 24 hour access to the units though so that makes it very convenient to get in and out at anytime. Not sure of price point, but I'm sure they are competitive with other places in the area. If I needed a storage unit I wouldn't hesitate to check these guys out. read more

Extra Space Storage - Self Storage Near Me - Birmingham, Alabama

Didn't think Extra Space Storage could get worse. I was so wrong. Went to pay my bill and saw an increase of $58. As I said in my last review, it's typical of Extra Space Storage to increase your storage rent effective on the very next bill. Called the office and told them that I received no notice of the increase. I was told they'd take off the $58 for the current month but it would apply to every month thereafter. The lady told me to allow 24-48 hours for the credit. I checked back later that day and the next day, and the credit had not been applied. Went to pay my bill and now there was a $53.60 late fee. Called the office and the lady there would talk to me and put me on hold and come back to the phone anytime I responded to her questions about the fee. After this back and forth, she finally put me on the phone to the person she was speaking to. This lady said she would not refund my late fee and told me the $58 credit had been applied the same day I called. LIES! Tell the truth, shame the devil and I checked the bill twice after my phone call and it had DID NOT have a decrease in the total amount due. I told her how many times I checked back to see if the credit had been applied. However, she dismissed what I was saying, insisting that the credit was applied the same day. As for this current $58 increase, when I called at the end of March, I was told that my storage unit was below market value AND that I was still not paying the actual market value which was even higher. That means they were saying: 1) You're lucky we didn't increase your storage rent more than we did and 2) Since you're still below market value, we'll continue to increase your rent. Extra Space Storage will continue to lure in customers with a decent rate and then keep increasing that rate as often as they want. They'll continue until they're hit with a class action lawsuit. I once had 2 storage units simultaneously with Extra Space Storage but the sudden increase in rent on a frequent basis was too much to handle so I got rid of some things and put everything in one unit. Even though they claim to be climate controlled, the basement units are hot and damp in spring and summer. You've got to love Extra Space Storage replying to my initial review with "Mango, Thank you for the review. We are sorry you have had a negative experience renting with us. Our rates here at Extra Space Storage are not guaranteed for the life of the storage because we are strictly month to month. Please contact our office at (866) 786-7243 regarding your concerns". Been there, done that. When you contact their office, you'll get a no help, but you might get some passive aggressive hostility and a headache. If you're looking for a reputable storage unit, check every consumer website you can find. An employee at Extra Space Storage told me how much she made per hour, and it was surprisingly low. Screw you customers and pay your employees jellybeans. Capitalism at its finest. read more

They called and told me the wrong lock was on the unit and I will have to buy another lock for $16.99 and sign two forms. One form I signed and accepted, but the 2nd form could be signed, but the green button would not work so they would not put a new lock on. read more

Extra Space was great. Everything was clean and convenient. The staff was always responsive.

Good location, fast friendly service. Have an extremely small, and it's a little pricey... But most things are these days. Love that the unit is temp controlled and indoors. read more

The storage units themselves were nice, clean and met expectations. However, the employees lie to get you in to sign the contract, verbally providing incorrect information so you will agree to the terms and sign. Then, when you are ready to move out and notify them and their story is different, they simply tell you to check the contract you signed. Don't fall for it, and don't believe a thing the employees tell you. Read every word of the rental agreement before signing. Better yet, find a reputable storage facility that operates with honest and integrity, this place does not. read more

We use this storage facility to store my husband's business' supplies. I like how safe I feel if I have to go there by myself (even at night) because of all the security measures the facility has. It's a bit pricier than others, but the location & safety make it well worth the price. By the way, the units are also climate-controlled. read more

The staff went out of their way to find a unit as close to the front door as possible on the ground floor. However, and this is a big minus...it is way too hot inside the storage units!!! I have antiques and paintings. "Climate Controlled" to me, means, as cool as one would keep their home during hot summer months; a reasonable temperature like 72. I did not have a thermometer with me, but it felt like mid 80's. I'll be watching for humidity and mold. My previous unit was perfect, but I had to move because I needed a larger unit and one was not available. read more

From the first call to the move in process, it could not have been easier. All of the employees were most helpful and accommodating. The manager worked with us on the move in date, could not find a better price (internet rate) and was allowed to unload a Pod. My location very convenient. Using the elevator and their carts helped the process. They even recommended moving assistance that worked out well. read more

This is the best storage facility I know of in Birmingham. It is clean and really is climate controlled. Some advertise climate control, but really are not. On the units, the rolling doors and latches work great, no rust or sticking doors to deal with. They provide push carts for getting your things into the units which is a huge help. The staff are professional and friendly, and renting a unit is quick and easy. Overall, the best storage experience out of several in the area. read more
