I have been going to Allana for a few years now and she regularly transforms my hair, which on its own leaves a lot to be desired, into something I get compliments on all the time. I've reviewed my regular hair appointments on here in the past so I won't go into it (tldr, they do amazing work), but I have a new reason to heap praise on Extology. I got married this past weekend and all my bridesmaids and I got our hair done at Extology. Not only did we all leave looking incredible (seriously, I left all my bobby pins and everything in on my wedding night because I couldn't stand to take my gorgeous formal bun out), but Allana bent over backwards to make sure it was a perfect experience. She opened the salon a full hour and a half early so we could be done on time for photos etc., she made my hair PERFECT, and she even squeezed in my mom who wasn't on the appointment calendar but saw how good we all looked and wanted to get her hair done too. I've always known that Lauren does color like no one else - she somehow creates depth within my thinning hair, and makes it look like she used a couple of colors so it doesn't look like the color is painted on. Always looks natural. This week Lauren did extensions for me and OMG - it looks absolutely fabulous!!! My hair looks fuller and is now much longer - and the color matches exactly with mine. I don't feel any pulling and I haven't lost any of the extensions through brushing my hair. I can sleep just fine, no discomfort. Lauren expertly applied the extensions and feathered them in perfectly with my hair. There is no way anyone would ever know it's not my own hair. It's soft and shiny, easy to take care of. I can't tell you how happy I am!! Lauren's expert touch and attention to detail are second to none. I love the Extology salon - they're truly top notch, and they use the best products. The extensions are real hair with keratin bonds, so they don't damage my hair. I'm always so relaxed when I'm there, and I feel they really care about not only my hair but about me the overall experience I have. Every time I walk out of there I feel like a new person! I get color every three weeks and a haircut every few months, so yes, I'm pretty qualified to give an opinion :)) Allana is my stylist, and she's amazing. She knows exactly what I like, and more importantly, listens and understands when I want something new and different. There is another stylist there, Lauren, who is also amazing (I've see her work :) and she does this incredible head massage, I have goosebumps every time. They are both super professional and make sure their clients are always comfortable. The salon is small and very pretty and cozy, and with a big selection of teas, I don't mind spending time there on a cold day. Allana is truly the extension doctor. She is the most knowledgeable stylist I have ever met. I was a little apprehensive about getting extensions again due to the horrible experience I had at another salon. On my first visit, Allana inspected my hair for the quality and quantity to see if my very fine hair would work with the bonded extensions. She put a few in my hair and I waited two weeks to see how my own hair did with them. I will tell you ladies now, she is the FIRST stylist I have ever gone to for extensions that did a trial before. Most salons will just put them in your hair without testing out how strong your own hair is. I have had them for two weeks now and could not be happier with not only the quailty of the extensions but how awesome I am feeling about my new do. I read every yelp review before booking an appointment with the owner Allana after suffering from a horrendous tape in extension removal experience from another salon that caused breakage of my already thin hair. It's the age old saying that you get what you pay for. Yes I paid double by booking at Extology but this is top of the line services. The salon is clean, the staff are very nice, the services and quality are amazing. I was there a little longer than expected but that tends to happen when you are the last appointment of the day. Allana takes pride in her craft and is extremely professional and just a very nice down to earth person in general. I had a really great first experience here! The salon was easy to find and decorated nicely. Everything felt clean which is important to me. My hair stylist Lauren was adorable and very knowledgeable. She was good about explaining what she was doing and how it impacted the look of the haircut. Before going to the Extologist I was extremely reserved about my hair, so much so that I would be scared to get my hair cut. I had a nightmarish experience at Extology Salon. I moved in across the street a few months ago, and I decided to give the salon a try. My initial experience of getting a haircut was alright, but what came next was awful. I made an appointment for a keratin treatment in June. I am a healthcare professional, and with a busy call schedule, things come up. I called the day before my appointment, while the salon was closed, and left a voicemail to cancel my appointment. I even called the following day after my morning clinic to make sure my appointment had been cancelled. After being reassured by one of the employees "that I was all set and could call back to reschedule," I received a $400 charge on my credit card shortly after that. The salon staff and owners have been incredibly hard to reach. I am currently filing against Extology with the DPL. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from this salon. read more

If I could give a negative star for this place I definitely would. I called and asked a question and they continued to beat around the bush, it is ridiculous. The owner continued to say I was not listening to her, when indeed I was. She was not listening to me and was actually feeding incorrect information. Customer service is one thing but failing to inform a potential client is absolutely incompetent. I am a strong believer of meeting a client where they are at. An appointment for a cut and blow dry was scheduled in April upon completing my first services at this salon. I realized I didn't want to cut my hair any shorter since it was less that two months and I didn't want a blow dry because my hair was about to get wet that evening. Essentially, this would have been a waste of my time and money. I am upset that I was "borderline" forced to get these services because I was "going to be charged anyways." How is it legal for a hair salon to charge me for a service that I do not want? Since Lauren was late, I literally watched another hair dresser tell her client that she didn't need to do all the services of she didn't want to, why was I any different? Lauren did a quick "clean up" and blow dry for $75. This type of scam is not a way to keep clients nor is it best practices. How is this reasonable Why didn't the hairdresser work with me? Lauren's hair dying technique is great but I am not a fan of being forced to do something I do not want to-let alone told that I will pay regardless. read more

You know the salons that are very judge-y and have stylists that look down their nose at you? Extology is the complete opposite of that. The girls are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I went to get hair extensions and I totally agree with Alana and team winning "Best of Boston." Not only is she an expert, but she gives you ALL the details and even answers silly questions without judgement. I also loved the fact that all the after-care product and brush was included in the price. The process is long but the results are worth it! Allana is...the Extologist yes, but in reality she is soo much more! She has been doing my hair for TEN YEARS now and man, looking back I can just say "WOW"! She is a Transformation Artiste!! I am on the reserved side when it comes to hair but that ended right after I met Allana;) If you need/want a change, don't worry about how it will look and don't even wonder if it could be possible because you are in good hands! She is an expert on colour, cuts as well as hair extentions. You show her a picture or describe what you are thinking of and she will take it from there. And in her own words: "Honey, anyone can be a blonde!". I took a leap of faith and let her do her thing. I was very nervous and kept on interrupting her with my eyes wide trying to deal with the transformation that was happening but she calmed me down and had me more than relaxed when I saw what she can do! There is just no boundry when it comes to her ability to transform your look. If you can dream it, SHE CAN DO IT! If you have a plan, sure, go to her and she will do it BUT I suggest that you listen to her advice because she KNOWS hair. I first discovered Allana's God given talents during the hectic crazy moments leading up to a friend's wedding. Allana was the hairstylist for the bridesmaids, bride and family. She worked from early morning to moments before the wedding styling a handful or two of women. You would think the woman would get tired towards the end but nope not Allana. The last hairstyle was just as good as the first and I kid you not, my sister being one of the bridesmaids kept her updo in even for a few days after the wedding and that hair looked as if it was just done even days after! That was the first time I ever witnessed that kind of talent and staying power! Not only did the looks on the girls last but they were all gorgeous and complimented everyone's own look. From that, I knew I wanted to try out Allana's miraculous skills! Never doing anything drastic to my hair before, I decided to go all out and do something funky! Blue and purple extensions! Now I will not even color my hair, chemically treat or cut it short so this was big for me. I met her for a consultation first. We went over the different colors, maintenance etc. She knows her stuff! She educated me on the extensions and the process as well as answered my 1000000 questions. Putting in the extensions takes a good couple of hours but worth every second! I loved my hair! It felt soo thick and looked soo fun! Even after, she is always available for any questions or concerns I have. I am currently on my third extensions style. I have gone from blue and purple, to various shades of pinks and purples to now - dark green, blue and purple. I always receive compliments on my hair! Horrible service and the worst hair experience I've ever had and I've been to a few top notch hair specialists in Boston, I got taken in by the website! This is a major FRAUD ALERT. Please consider before you book an appointment with her. I spent almost a grand on a tiny bit of hair that other extension specialists I went to, to fix my hair post my experience with her, told me: A. should not have cost so much B. Should not have fell out in 3-4 days!!! and they also gave me a HAIR ALLERGY - I ended up spending a ton of money at the Dermatologist. PLUS she has no class and/or ethics. She refused point blank to give me even a partial refund. She will take your money and do a CRAP JOB, when it comes to extensions I highly doubt her skills.
