I love Express. I've bought clothes here for years, and even got my wedding and groomsman suits here. I love the fit, style and attitude the brand offers. The new location is really big and nice as well. Recently I had a great sales experience buying new clothes. The associate was very friendly and knowledgeable. When I purchased my items not everything was in stock and the associate informed me I could order the rest online, bring my receipts in and get a price adjustment (for a $75 off $200 coupon I had). Easy enough. However my price adjustment experience was anything but pleasant. I brought in both receipts (in store and online) asking for the adjustment. Express receipts have all the SKUs for the items on them, so I figured there wouldn't be a problem. The woman at checkout proceeded to tell me that she could not do any price adjustments without all of the items present. I explained to her that I recently hurt my knee, can't walk on it much at all, and making the trip here was thoroughly planned out (I waited until today because I had nothing planned). I simply wouldn't be able to come back today with the items. However, I had both receipts and the coupon necessary. I asked if there was a manager who could come over and she said she was one, but would get another. The second manager came over, listened to my story, and regurgitated the same thing. She then went into a speech about how they aren't supposed to do price adjustments at all on coupons, as if they were already making an exception for me, and that everything would need to be returned and resold with the items present. I understand that my injuring myself isn't their fault, but the lack of empathy or willingness to make an exception certainly was. I wasn't trying to screw anyone over, and if anything, I spent more money than I had planned. Rules are in place for a reason but so is the power to do the right thing in certain circumstances. I ended up leaving empty handed except for a customer relations card the manager gave me without my asking. The whole situation reflected poorly on the brand and was a huge waste of time for me, all for $75. While the managers weren't particularly rude and were certainly doing their job, their lack of flexibility really bummed me out and makes me think twice about shopping here again. read more

Went in today 2/15 with my boyfriend and we were kind of in a pickle because we have this really important formal activity to attend tomorrow. We were notified last minute so we were a little stressed out because we didn't have time to go anywhere to have anything tailored. A very nice gentleman by the name of Chris helped us out and helped us find everything we needed. He made sure to check other locations for certain items and was beyond willing to make sure we walked out of there happy. His customer service was exceptional, if only express worked off commission because it was not a cheap purchase and I feel as if Chris deserves some sort of hurrah which is why I am writing this positive yelp review. All the other employees were very pleasant as well so thanks again for giving us one less thing to worry about. We will be back! read more

This as well as the other express men's in escondido are two of my favorite locations to come to when I am shopping for clothes at this store. the store is so clean and presentable and white!!!!! only thing is that this locations employees are very whatever about their job and when you are trying to find someone so you need a fitting room, they are never around to be there to help you out. read more

I like Express, but I don't like the customer service at this particular store. I always buy online, but I needed to return something so I went in to the Fashion Valley mall store. I was surprised by the bad customer service here. 3 out of the 4 employees that were working there had a stuck up and unwelcoming attitude. That is really funny, because I am the one who is spending money at Express, and they are the ones working for Express, but yet they have it backasswards in their mind, and act like there's some reason why they should be stuck up. Not only that, the so-called "greeter" was at the back of the store behind the register chatting with another employee, and when I walked up they ignored me. Norma is the bomb. I went here last night looking for work clothes (surprise) and Norma was really cool and helpful. She helped me in the fitting room and gave me tips and pointers on how different styles should fit. Super good at what she does. Also, I somehow managed to cut my cuticle open and was bleeding and she got me a paper towel and a band aid in like 15 seconds flat. Really great customer care. I don't know if she's the manager, seems like she might be, but if she's not, she should be. She's really great. Also, the girl who looks exactly like Kiera Knightly is suuuuuper sweet too. Normally I don't review places like this, but I feel it was necessary. My boyfriend and I went in to get some things for a wedding. I will say the guy working the fitting room was great. Super helpful, knowledgeable and very nice. Now the bad part. We had 3 employees be flat out rude to us. We're not sure why, we were regular customers just trying to get things we needed to complete some wedding attire. We were starting to wonder if being ridiculously rude was a requirement to work there. If you can avoid this particular store, do it. The store manager needs to institute some customer service training. read more

WILL NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had an Express credit card for over 7 years and have spent LOTS at this store which was never an issue. I've always loved their stuff. I still do. My problem though - since I have spent so much, I was given $40 rewards from Express for points. Awesome, right? Wrong. I bought a dress online with it which I ended up HATING once I saw it. So, I brought it into the store to exchange for another dress/outfit that I actually liked and the cashier told me that I wouldn't be able to use the $40 for something else. (Before you ask: It was within the 30 days of purchase, never worn, all tags attached, and receipt in hand! I could not believe it. I "earned" this $40 for spending so much money and I can't get a new item with those reward points because the original dress sucked. I was shocked. This was about 5 months ago and I am still true to this promise to myself. It hurts me because I miss the store, but for that alone, I am SO done. Once I pay off that card, in the shredder it will stay. Aside from that horrible experience, the reps are usually nice and available to help, the pricing and sales are always affordable, and the style is always IN. Pretty lame customer service at this location. I went in, intending to spend around $300+ for an outfit. I picked out a pretty good outfit, each time having to ask for a dressing room instead of being offered one outright. I really needed a jacket to go with the outfit I picked out, and I looked, but couldn't really find one I liked. I am sure some of the staff might have been able to show me more jackets, but none of them tried to help me. I spent about 45 minutes in the store and not a single one helped me shop. I love Express! The have the BEST pants for work. They fit perfect and are a classic style (the normal Editor style)! I have had a couple of pairs for at least 5 years. I do like to go at the change of each season to get a new pair in a fun print! I just got a pair last week that are a charcoal grey with a aqua pin stripe. I also love their sweaters each winter and usually buy multiples in many colors - again...great for work. Some of their other clothes are was too trendy and a bit trashy. I usually can find a coupon online so I never pay full price. read more

Of all the Express stores in SD, you can be sure to find the most selection here. I limit my shopping here to their suits and work pants. Overall, I'd say it's a good value especially if you sign up for their mailers in which case you can get anywhere from $10 to $40 dollars off your purchase, on how much your total is. Further, every so often they'll have season clearance sales that are pretty good deals. That is, if you don't mind sifting through bins clothes that are quasi-organized according to size. read more

I am a A-list member with Express which tells you that shop a lot with them and I have been to their stores in different cities and states from SD to NY and I always felt welcomed and satisfied except in this branch on Fashion Valley where I always felt unwelcome. I have visited that store many times in the past, but during this past month or two I have experienced something very odd. I wasn't going to write anything because I love Express and their clothes; I just have an issue with the Express in FASHION VALLEY and it needs to be heard. The few times I have been in there, I can honestly say that an associate there smelled like alcohol. If ya'll want me to be specific, she was short with round glasses, short dark curly/wavy hair, and a bit chunky, so be out on the look out for her! I'll admit she's nice, but nice won't help you mask the alcohol smell. Any who, she didn't really smell like pure alcohol, like she was drinking on the job, but you know that smell people start to get when they've been drinking too much and/or are hungover? She smelled like that! Maybe she partied it up the night prior or was drinking before her shift, who knows but I don't think that should be permitted. I know associates have a life outside work and I get that there's nothing wrong with a night out or drink, but if you know you have to work the next day, make sure you get home early to sleep off the drinks, shower, and rest. Nobody wants to go shopping and see sales associates that are intoxicated or hungover. A shower doesn't always help sweety. She should have just stayed home or gone in until a later time. I honestly find it unprofessional and just wrong. I'm disgusted and I don't think I'll be visiting this specific store anymore. I rather go to Horton or Plaza Bonita since they seem to be more professional and sober and actually want to make sales with the customers. Management needs to crack down all of these unprofessional associates and get people that actually take their job seriously! For crying out loud its Fashion Valley where a lot of the stores have prestige and good reputation! Don't let alcoholic associates bring that reputation down Express, I know you can do a lot better. read more

Received the worst customer service at the Mission Valley location. The sales and coupons are very misleading. I went in for the reason to use my 15% coupon and couldn't use it on anything. Customer Non-Service: Purchased some sweaters as Christmas presents and then $200.00 worth of gift cards. When I went to pay for the gift cards separately, their machine would not accept my debit. The cashier tried it 3 times. I became uncomfortable and asked if I was being charged. She said, "no". However, I asked for my card back and she said I had not been charged so I could not have my $200 in gift cards. When I got home I checked my account and I had been charged as well as it had cleared. I called the store and they told me to call my bank to make sure. I did..it had and I called back. The manager told me they could not help me and referred me to customer non-service. The man told me he could not help and to dispute the charge. I was very upset. This was their mistake and now my problem They washed their hands of it rather than to check the balance of their cash register. I got louder asking him why he couldn't check the register and he became very snippy and said...just dispute and do not get loud with me!! Ugh...I hung up and disputed it. My bank was great. Express was not. They not only took $200 of my money with no regrets and no merchandize...but when I checked the receipt for the items that I had purchased minutes earlier, there was an item for $35.00 that I have no idea what it was since I had only bought two items but three were on my receipt! I am a big fan of Express. I have 2 suits, like 12 buttons up shirts, cuff links, 10 ties, 3 slacks, sunglasses. I'm basically a walking billboard for them. This location is the best in San Diego. They get new products before all the other stores. Everyone is really nice and helpful but not overly pushy. It's a balance that works for me and keeps me going back for more. read more

My boyfriend and I went suit shopping, first at H&M and then here. We were pleasantly surprised at the difference in service and experience! We were quickly helped by a person after walking in and RJ , the guy in charge of the dressing rooms knew exactly what size my bf was by just looking at him and went out of his way to go get us the pieces we needed. All the guys that worked there were extremely helpful (which was nice because I had no idea hot to dress a man in a suit!). My bf is going to look awesome at his friend's wedding thanks to them! This place is a shit show in the checkout line. Given, the lady in front of me looked like she had ordered the whole store online and then decided to return it, BUT that didn't bother me. I knew that cashier was doing the best she could and she called for backup once she realized we were going to be waiting for a while. We waited in line for a good 5-10 minutes while we could see other employees lackadaisically wandering around the floor. They saw us waiting and no one seemed to be able to jump on the cash register. One employee in particular caught my eye because he kept staring right at us while folding clothes and lip-synching to the music--sometimes dancing a bit. I figured he was staring at us because he could see how long we were waiting and he felt awkward because he was supposed to be on the floor and couldn't help out with the register. After a few more minutes of waiting, finally, the second cashier arrives. He begins our transaction, which is a simple exchange: 2 pairs of columnist pants for 2 pairs of editor pants. He has to call for a manager....sigh. He calls for one multiple times. The store isn't even that big. Where could the manager be hiding?? Finally, the "manager" walks up. And 'lo and behold, it's the lip synching, eye-contact making, clothes-folding employee!! What kind of manager states at a growing like and doesn't hop on the register? And why did it take him so long to respond to the manager call when he was right there? Ridiculous. I almost laughed when he waltzed up. I like Express clothing but this store has horrible service! Ive had a bad experience the two times ive been here. First time I called ahead and asked if they could put a pair of shoes on hold for me. I came in to get them and they couldnt find them. So, I asked the cashier if she had anymore in the store or is she could see if the mission valley mall had them. she instantly replied with their system being down. I said ok and decided to search the store anyway. sure enough I found the shoes. The cashier didnt even bother to help me look. I paid for the shoes and left. I came back two days later to get a price adjustment because they were having a 50% off sale. I made sure to check out their price adjustment policy so I wouldnt waste my time. I get there, do some shopping and go to check out. I tell the girl i need to do a price adjustment and I want to buy the items I had in front of me. She told me that I needed to have the shoes in front of me in order to do the price adjustment bc she needed to scan them and repurchase them which is ridiculous because online it says I just need the receipt and it has to be within 14 days. I have also worked in retail and all you have to do is scan the receipt and it will bring up your transaction. im really not happy especially with how much money i spend at this store. While helping a friend look for an outfit to wear to a wedding, I suggested that he check this place out. Apparently he never shopped at Express before. Oh wha?! We walked in without any hesitation. Al was on hand to help with the questions we had about their dress shirts and pants, and was quick to start a fitting room while we looked around. Sage was extremely helpful while my friend tried everything on. He even asked me to assist him with picking out another tie and shirt, to which I immediately agreed. For someone who worked in retail (women's apparel specifically) for nearly 8 years, finding men's dress shirt sizes was stepping into unfamiliar territory. I therefore schooled myself within the few minutes I spent with Sage while looking for a possible alternative to what my friend already had with him. Turned out that the 2nd choice was the best one. That, and I convinced him that wearing the same color he had worn to a past wedding to this one was a no-no. Thank you for taking my advice! And thank you Al and Sage for outstanding customer service. It's good to know that people who work in retail don't always hate their job. Take it from someone who's been there. My friend purchased a shirt, tie, vest, and pants and also opened a store card. Talk about popping your Express cherry! He barely paid any attention to how much each piece was, so it was quite the eye opener when we looked at the receipt upon leaving the mall. Haha! Natalia is one of the managers at Express located in Fashion Valley, San Diego who truly met the criteria of providing excellent service to her customers. I have been a fan of Express stores nationwide since 2011. The customer service is outstanding in all of the Express stores I have visited thus far, but what separates Fashion Valley from all of my experiences is Natalia. I bought a cute fit and flare dress in Palm Desert and I absolutely loved it, unfortunately I followed the instructions to wash this epic dress and it shrunk. I was so bummed, I called Corporate and they were unable to send me another dress because it was no longer in stock. I was planning to go to San Diego on the weekend of 9/20/14 and thankfully Natalia was able to hold the exact dress for me. She did what no other manager would do. On 9/20/14 I walked away with my favorite dress and I wore it that same night with a cute Express scarf. Even though I was unable to thank her in person I will make sure her boss knows how valuable she is to their organization. Thank You Natalia for being a tremendous example of how true leaders should be. Believe it or not but you inspired me to be just like you when it comes down to customer service. I was in this store last night...saw a dress in the window that I loved. When I went inside to find it, come to find out that I need an XS, but all they have are Large on the racks. So I ask an employee to check the mannequin (there were 2 of this dress on display throughout the store) to see if one of those was an XS. The surprising response "we can't take clothes off of display" Um, what? Isn't the point of having a display to sell the clothes? I understand wanting the displays and windows to look nice, but come on. Can't you replace the one on display with the exact same dress, just a different size? I finally got them to check the display at least, and yes, of course, one of the ones on display was my size, but they STILL REFUSED to take it off of display so that I could buy it!!! ARE YOU KIDDING? I am a customer who wants to buy and they refuse to sell me a dress? They called several other local stores, none of which had the dress in XS. So then they tell me that in order to take the dress off of display, they have to "first get permission from the display manager, but she's not here, so, sorry!" OMG. They wanted me to come back tomorrow after they talked to the display manager about taking the dress off of display. What? I have to drive all of the way back to FV tomorrow again to try on a stupid dress that is right here sitting in front of me? Are you kidding? Bad business practice! I feel like if the owner of the company knew about this "policy" he/she would go ballistic. Sorry, over it. read more

I am a sales associate at the Express in Escondido at the North County mall and have worked at the Temecula Promenade. At both stores I was warned of how mean the associates could be at Fashion Valley when calling for stock checks. When I went to shop for myself I was greeted by a few girls who seemed very friendly. Two flat out ignored my boyfriend and I and did not even grace us with a smile when passing. The lady in the fitting room was very sweet, I should have asked for names! But the manager, she had brunette colored hair I believe, was not super friendly was I told her I was an associate from a different store. I also think she told me a BS policy about returns so that she would not have to take my return. About half the associates seemed fairly friendly but the other half seem very snotty and rude. I don't know why they would be mean to fellow customers or associates but thats the trend I have heard and seen for myself. I may have to transfer there when I move to San Diego but am seriously considering not doing so and having a longer drive to avoid it!! As much as I love the setup of the overall mall and store, I did not receive a warm and friendly vibe as all EXPRESS stores are supposed to have. read more
