This was, theoretically, not supposed to be possible, according to our builder. But there it was, desperately trying to get out of the return vent and into our living room. I called everyone. The builder, the people who installed and maintain our HC system, animal control, pest control. Nobody does a bird in the ducts. They all told me to call someone else. I couldn't turn my heat on, I could hear the poor thing thrashing around in there. Then I called Richard at Americlean, and he said "no problem". Unbelievably, this has happened twice in the past 3 years. No one can figure out how the birds are getting in. We apparently have magic birds in our neighborhood. But both times, the guys at Americlean came out, removed the sadly deceased bird from my heating duct, cleaned and disinfected the places it had been, and even some it had not. On the most recent occasion, the guys went up in our attic and tromped around for quite a while, inspecting the ducts, checking for access points, making sure there weren't any holes. They were pleasant, thorough, and the price was reasonable. They even came out less than 24 hours after I called. I had everything inspected again by the company that installed the system a few days later. It's possible that the roof is the access point, but the hole is very small. It's still a mystery how birds this large are getting in. But I was very thankful for the willingness of Richard and the guys at Americlean to deal with an uncommon situation in a professional and competent manner.
