With little to no knowledge of stairs or how to repair a large chunk of wood missing from my pup chewing (GRRRR), I needed a professional to come in and take a look and assess what needs to be done. After several failed attempts to get a handyman that does both wood/wall and carpet on stairs, we came across Gunn. He was quick to respond and came out to take a look and give a quote. After a very thorough look and rundown of what can be done, We decided to go with him. Gunn is very professional and seems passionate about his line of work. After approving his quote, we scheduled a day to come out and him to get to work. He got straight to it once he arrived. We did our best to stay out of the way while he worked so we hung out around the neighborhood since he was working on our stairs. He tackled the chewed wood on the wall with a composite materials which he sanded down to match the existing wood and then painted it over. While he was doing that he was also pulling the old carpet and putting in the new stuff. Before we knew it, he was done. We looked it over together and went over any potential issues. Gunn insisted that if we were unhappy with anything to give him a call and he would be happy to take a look. He came out with his team and leveled our sub floor, screwed down all the sub floor plywood to ensure squeak-free flooring, and they did the actual install of our entire upstairs (about 650 sq. ft) in a DAY. We were thrilled with the work, pleased with the price, and honestly, excited to meet another small business owner who was such a hard worker! I was also impressed that he installed the LVP flooring in such a way that we will not need transition pieces into our tiled bathroom flooring (see pictures). My house's exterior cladding was made of fiber cement shingles, but the exterior trim was made of wood that had weathered and needed to be replaced. I therefore decided to replace all of the exterior trim with James Hardie fiber cement. In addition, I decided to add fiber cement soffits to close the open eaves and to provide added protection against fire. Finally, I wanted all exterior cladding and trim to be repainted, along with the installation of new gutters and downspouts. HEX's staff was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. Paul patiently helped craft a detailed scope of work that clearly described all aspects of the renovation. Eugene, Max and Serge completed the initial demolition to remove the wood trim and then installed the new fiber cement trim, shingles and soffit panels. Their work included an uncommonly high level of attention to detail, particularly in the fabrication of soffits and front-porch caps. Despite several hot days, Eugene, Max and Serge always had a friendly, positive attitude and left the worksite clean each day. I give HEX General Contractors my highest recommendation, and I would surely hire them in the future.
