Updated: Ok, my initial impression was about there burger. I wasn't impressed and the dollar amount was a bit too high for me. However, One word, breakfast. This place is awesome for breakfast. We have been there twice so far and I have been very happy. I am not changing my rating though because of my disappointment with lunch but I am going to go back and give lunch there another shot. We always take visitors to this place. Great for kids because they have a train set up on the ceiling above the tables. My step fathers said this was his best breakfast he had ever had. He had the Country Fried Steak and Biscuits and Gravy. That is saying a lot as he has been all over the country for the last 65 years. Small place but it does offer outside seating. Exeter is the best! And this is the best breakfast your going to find here. read more

This place is a hidden gem. The restaurant is small but has a cool train theme going on. It's set up well. I had the French toast with eggs and bacon. The bacon was slightly burnt, but the French toast was excellent! Some of the best I've had in the Central Valley. Had breakfast here on an impromptu road trip from Fresno to Sequoia - great little spot! Friendly folks and great food, what more can you ask? Had the Engineer omelette which is a giant meat fest plus some veg, and finally a place that understands what "extra crisp" hashbrowns actually means. Even got to see my server, Allison, get a special treat from the cook. shhhhhhh. Seems like a fun group to hang out with. Highly recommend for breakfast. read more

I stopped here to try it out on my way to the sequoias. I loved their bacon and french toast. However I am a frequent oatmeal eater. I eat oatmeal everywhere I go. I ordered a bowl of oatmeal that was the cost of $4.50, and when it came, to my suprise it was instant oatmeal. Now of course I don't mind paying almost $5.00 for One bowl of oatmeal, but I've had better served from Denny's and Mc.Donalds that was of course way cheaper than $5.00, and a lot better grade. We LOVE this place!!! We live in Hanford and make the trip to Exeter just to eat here. The older gentleman who is the server is the absolute BEST! We love his humor and service. And no one beats the owner. She ALWAYS makes a point to say hello, chit chat with the customers, and makes us feel right at home. The food is super YUMMY, and the price is well worth every penny. My husband and I went in this morning. The owner was busy in conversation with someone, so the nice man cleaning tables sat us. She then walked to our table and just threw the menus at us and walked away to ask another table if they wanted coffee. We sat for a few minutes. I she did not come by to offer us coffee. We decided to leave. As we were walking out , she states she can't believe we're leaving and I hear her blame the employee for not getting us drinks. No, it's your rudeness that caused us to leave. I used to love this place, but the atmosphere has completely changed since she began working there. We have tried it a few other times since she's been there and it the same rude attitude from her. I would like to say that Victor, the cook, is a great guy and does make yummy food. read more

I went to this restaurant because it had a good Yelp rating (4.5 stars). I was not disappointed. It's a tiny restaurant; looks as though it was converted from a small house. I sat at the counter and had the California omelette with hash browns. It was delicious. The waitress offered me homemade salsa which was also very good. The biscuits are big and homemade. If you go here, you'll get good food. However, The thing that really made this a Five Star experience was the service. The two waitresses who were working were so friendly and greeted everyone as if they've known each other for a long time. (Since it's a small town, I'm sure that that's a true statement.) To sum up: Great food, Excellent service. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in Exeter. read more

Very good small town diner. Stopped for lunch on the way to Sequoia. Seemed to be the best Yelp rated place in Exeter. Had to eat outside because the inside was packed. We got a burger, an omelet, and a chicken sandwich, all very good, served promptly and attentively. It was during a school day, and the high school is just down the street. The students are apparently free to leave for lunch, as I saw many of them walking home (kudos to the school authorities) but they don't pack the Whistle Stop. A weary traveler can still get lunch even on a school day in a town where the kids aren't held prisoner. A word to the traveler trying to find it by GPS. This place is not really at 401 E Pine Street, it's really more like 114 North C street. The Box Car bakery is at 401 E Pine; the Whistle Stop is behind it. Sherry Forcum is a great owner, community supporter, and takes care of her customers. Food is diner classic: omelets, pancakes, french toast, biscuits and gravy, and classic burgers and sandwiches.
