While passing through Visalia we found this place. There aren't many places like this where we live…read moreso we thought we'd give it a try. Entered in to a very open and clean seating area. There is both indoor and outdoor seating options. Inside they are picnic table style with bench seating and long tables or counter seating near the windows. Outdoors was set up with table and chair patio style seating. Immediately greeted by a friendly employee and after we mentioned it was our first time there she gave us a thorough overview of how it works. One thing we really liked was the customer has the option to select their "signature" dogs or you can create your own using all the toppings they have available via a slip of paper. You just check the boxes of what you want on your all beef hot dog (1/4 lb.), a polish sausage or bratwurst. I discovered afterwards they also offer "mini" dogs, which I should have gotten because they are quite large and my eyes were bigger than my stomach after I ordered a hot dog and a homemade corndog. My daughter got a polish dog and a homemade cheese dog (like a corn dog but using cheese instead of a hot dog). I got tater tots as a side and my daughter the homemade potato chips. All the food was tasty and we'd get them all again, though as I mentioned above I'd probably go "mini" on one or both because together there was just too much food for me. If we go through Visalia again, we'll definitely return.

The batter is sweet; remind me of corn bread; and I like me some corn bread. Thick coating but compliment the beef wiener well. You can pick your corn dog to be infused with beef or a choice of cheese. Now for the hot dogs; we ordered the western, the classic and the build your own. Lots of toppings; definitely not stingey with them. However they only wrap them in foil; maybe some other kind of wrapping like styrofoam container or cardboard would be better. Toppings stuck all over the foil and it was quite messy to eat. Wish my hot dog was cooked just a tad more : even had some grill marks on it.

Good food, but long waiting times. The service is pretty good as they take your order and are very patient if you are unsure of what to order. They never look upset and look like they really enjoy their job. The food is clean and the whole area is clean as well, inside and outside. There is a lot of room inside so it's never all that crowded and you have a lot of breathing room inside. The food and drinks are a little pricy but I myself think that it is definitely worth the price especially if you order Root Beer. I'm a regular so I am very familiar with the food, workers, and just everything about it. It is no doubt, my choice to go after a long day before I go home. read more

A&W restaurant is an average restaurant. I've experienced better, but it's not the worst. Their fries are pretty nice, they're golden crisp. Evenly seasoned, and good length. The burgers are pretty scrumptious, mouthwatering, and flavorsome. the customer service is like any other restaurant. But if you look at cleanliness, they can do better on that. I ordered a chicken strip combo with a rootbeer float. The chicken was fresh and super hot and good. The fries weren't very fresh but still good. There was a pretty long line and the line moved very slow. they only had 2 people working the counter. And once i ordered it took like 15 minutes for my food. This review is about A&W. A%W had a decent place sit. A fair amount of sitting, however is pretty small. Service is always friendly, they get you want. Hamburgers are always cooked so well, and fries are always the best, however, theres just something about that place that is just a turn off. Hadn't been able to have anything here for a couple of years as we don't have one nearby but it was definitely worth the drive. Years ago I ate at a Wienerschnitzel in Visalia and it was not a good experience so I was hesitant to try again but always want to give places a chance especially when they are new to town. First note is that the entry to the drive-through is at the very front of the building and you need to turn into it as soon as you turn off of Olive street into the lot. Today someone was at the gas station next-door and was trying to back out and was blocking entry for myself and another car so it can get a bit tricky as far as traffic if that area gets blocked. Now I am a big user of apps and know that Wienerschnitzel does have an app however Porterville is not yet listed as a location so you cannot order through the app at this time I do not know when and if they will update it to add this location. The menu was pretty straightforward. I had wanted to try a chili dog and was kind of sad to see that there was not a combo that offered a chili dog fries and a drink their number one combo is two chili dogs fries and a drink and that's just too much for what I wanted. I did order a chili dog and had them add raw onions. I also ordered small fries and a small Dr Pepper. The drink was a good size, it was closer to a medium at other places so that was nice. It is a bit of a drive home so the food was not super hot by the time we got home but it wasn't bad. Fries were very pale but salted nicely and had a good flavor. I am unsure about the chili dog. It wasn't bad but the hotdog itself was probably the low point. It was very skinny and did not taste like a quality dog. Once I got home I looked in the app and noticed that they offer an upgrade to a "premium" dog which was interesting... based on my receipt it looks like I got that standard hotdog which was fine but if you are able to spend a few more dollars to get a better dog I might try this again with that option. They do offer different varieties of hotdogs as well; the Chicago dog looked interesting but I will have to wait until another time to try that. Looks like they have burgers, hotdogs, fries, drinks, a Polish dog sandwich, and ice cream desserts. I didn't get a chance to take a photo of the menu as the line was moving very quickly. I did not have to wait at all for my food. The young lady at the window was very nice. They have outdoor dining area that's covered. That might be nice during the summertime. All in all I would guess that this was probably not something I will crave but again I will go back and try a different variety of hotdog and see about the upgrade to the premium dog and see if that makes a difference in the flavor. If you are looking for a change from burgers at a reasonable price this may be just the spot.
