My car when I got it
    John B.

Really like this Subaru dealership. Really nice waiting room here. And they have a few cars you can use if are not waiting for them to finish on your car. Just make sure they have a car Available before, not sure how many they have here for people that need them. Really friendly and nice here. They are pretty laid back here, not really pushy here. Which is good. Got a really great deal on my car here, I probably could not have gotten that elsewhere. Really good Dealership

This photo shows the other sideThere is no reason why after spending over $4,000 they couldn't put a new set of $15 exhaust gaskets in.

Had a clutch and steering rack installed by supposed professionals. Got my car back and put it on the lift to find out that they used three and a half tubes of heavy duty exhaust putty on a brand new downpipe with freshly machine heads. They loaded it right over the gaskets to the point where I have a quarter inch difference on one side to the other.found exhaust studs bolts loose and all mismatched. Literally the most despicable display of workmanship I've ever seen. I called and spoke with the owner and he had nothing to say besides the technician was " Subaru certified" and I could bring it back to them if I wanted to. Unfortunately I don't trust them at all now. I've contacted corporate and they've referred me to a dealership that will document the shortcomings and figure out a game plan. I should have checked Exeter Subarus Yelp because they have well over 50 negative reviews (some not recommended by Yelp). Do yourself a favor and do not have your vehicle worked on here ever!!

Still nothing from Exeter, 7 months later. I wrote to Subaru directly, we'll see if anyone cares about customer service.

All repair shops say "we've fixed your car". Exeter Motor works was the first repair shop where it was actually fixed! I've now been going there for at least 20 years. I was in the process of pricing new tires because they were getting wore out but the prices were out of control! I was recommended a shop in Dover and I reached out to what I thought was a price quote from them through the Yelp App. As it turns out I was sending out a blast to any shop that wanted to respond. One was Exeter Motor Works to which I used to take my SAAB 9000 to back in the late 90's. I moved further North so going there wasn't as convenient for me. However their shop was one who was presented to me so I called them and they said come on down. I got there an I was treated the exact same way as back in the 90's, graciously, friendly, warm and naturally without any phony "Hi how can I help". I let them know of my predicament and one of the mechanics came right into the greeting area and grabbed my key and started to fix the tire. I had mistakenly walked into the shop area and told them what was wrong so they already knew what was wrong and what to do! As I was getting checked in with my information and the guys were already fixing the tire, I informed the person at the counter I used to come here with my SAAB and the people were awesome! The lady assisting me (sorry my memory is bad) said "Yep you came in here with your SAAB last time in 1999!" I said OMG you still have that information in there, that's cool!" So we had already hit it off and we finished up the repair order. I went and sat down and this gentlemen walked in and the lady said "name?? I want you to meet a customer from 26 years ago who's back!" This person was the new owner now and was very polite and he is a Veteran as well so we already had a connection! The guys finished the tire repair and because of our idle chit chat they were very fair with my and I'm now going to schedule more service with them today! I want to thank the two guys in the shop as I walked in at 4:00 pm and they needed to stay. I also wanted to thank the front office for being so gracious. This maybe long winded but this was my experience.

The work has always been…read moresolid, the prices a touch higher than some shops, but worth it because Tim stands behind everything he does. If an issue comes back, he makes it right. That kind of integrity is why we've stayed loyal for many years. However, there has been a lingering problem that keeps giving me pause, and it has nothing to do with the work that is performed by Tim and his mechanics. It's the woman, who shall remain nameless, who answers the phone that keeps tripping up what should be a smooth, well-oiled experience like it was years ago. Ultimately, getting a direct, straightforward answer from her has proven harder than getting my kids to do their chores, and the tone is about the same, too. There's this steady drip of condescension, as if every question is a personal affront to her. And there are the sighs, the putting on hold, more sighs, and then there is the "Take it or leave it" edict. More than once, I've called needing work done, found myself hanging up mid-conversation, and immediately dialed another shop. In fact, the last couple of times I've called, I didn't even wait for the frustration to build; the moment her voice hit the line, I simply hung up and spared myself the aggravation. There have been times I've asked for clarification or if there was any other availability after she's issued her verdict; it felt like I was stepping out of line and challenging her authority. Which is a strange experience when all I'm trying to do is support a local business and throw money their way. I mean, I get it - it's a busy shop, lots of moving parts...That is not an excuse to be void of a little appreciation, or even a modicum of basic courtesy, which shouldn't be too much to hope for. Tim, I hate that this reflects on your business at all, because you've always been, and I'm sure still are a solid, trustworthy place. Judging by how full your lot is, it's clear you're still a local favorite. All I'm asking is this: please send a little of your empathy and human skills her way. I'm sure she's a perfectly nice woman when she isn't answering the phones, but something changes the moment that line rings, and it's impacting the experience, at least in my opinion, in a way that doesn't match the quality of your work. Thank you for all you do for this community.

I…read morehave been a loyal customer of VIP for several years and have been satisfied with the VIP treatment I have received until I discovered the real reason for my satisfaction. As my aging vehicle began to need repairs the service technician would discuss the needed repairs with me. He always presented the condition of the car in three parts--safety issues, which had to be done immediately, items that will eventually need repair, and those items that are discretionary. And as my car has passed the quarter million mile mark, he is now keeping me abreast of the total condition of the car, so that he can advise me when I need to consider purchasing another car. As a woman who relies on her car for her living, my service technician has become a valuable asset to me. When I make my appointments at VIP, I always ask for Pat, who always greets me with a smile and with his professional approach gives me the confidence that my vehicle is in good hands. Before I came to VIP I did experience service writers who tried to sell me service that I did not need at the time and service technicians who charged me for bogus diagnoses. In dealing with Pat I always feel confident that I am fully informed of my vehicle's needs, and I am paying for exactly what my vehicle needs. And when repairs and maintenance are completed, I am convinced that I have received the best deal for the life of my car.

I have had both good and bad service here. Most recently, bad…read more My guess on this variability is that it depends on which mechanic you get. I brought my F250 for AC service June 17 2024. They had previously replaced the ac compressor in August 2022 so I figured that since I had less than two years of operation, they might be more familiar with the system and the repair. Furthermore, on the off chance, the compressor failed again, some of the O'reilly AC compressors VIP uses have warranties (lifetime??) that are in excess of the time since the previous repair. The text from the service manager and subsequent interaction informed me that the orings from AC lines to the compressor were leaking. Now I would assume that if the orings (plural) fail on a compressor install that something is amiss; either due to type, quality of orings or the install. They wanted to charge me $608.40 for replacing the orings and servicing the AC. ("we won't charge you for the orings---just for the labor-- haha) I told the service manager that I was not happy about the fact that their previous install/repair failed so soon. I said that orings should last longer than they did. The service manager belittled me and said "Orings last as long as long as they last" and "Oh--do you think you know more than me (about orings)?" He then rudely threw the key towards me on the counter and said disdainfully "you are all set" I said "you are not going to charge me?" "No." So I went out to the truck, started it and drove home and guess what ? The AC doesn't work! So they didn't charge me...... for not fixing it!! What a deal!! They wasted my time, didn't fix the problem and treated me rudely. Now I was not wanting/expecting a free repair, but was expecting: a) That it be repaired b) Assurance that it would not fail again So the failed fix showed that whatever "high-horse" attitude the manager was demonstrating , had no justification.
