I wasted my time here! Went to look at a used car advertised online, spoke with a Brianna prior to making the 1.5 hour drive up. The car was absolute crap...sounded like an airplane was landing in the trunk. When I asked the salesman what the problem was with the car, he simply shrugged his shoulders and gave me one of those "your guess is as good as mine" replies. What!?!? When I told him that I had spoken at length to Brianna via three phone calls prior to driving up from Boston and that she never mentioned the airplane engine in the back, he simply stated that she knows nothing about the cars on the lot. Then why is it that she is fielding the phone calls from potential customers?!? When I inquired with the manager on duty, he told me the price was firm and that he knew nothing about the current condition of the car. How is it that none of these people, receptionist, salesman, and manager know nothing of this car that is for sell on THEIR lot??? Completely unprofessional and 100% lacking in usable knowledge. Helpful hint to all three...learn a little (preferably a lot) about the cars you are trying to "sell." Bad experience overall. Buyer beware! read more

When you have a great buying experience, like we did at Exeter Subaru, you're then shocked when the follow up service experience is completely awful. We had purchased a brand new 2011 Outback in January 2011. We purchased the tire warranty that they sold us during the signing of the papers. Down the road when we had an issue with the tires, they didn't want to honor the warranty! We didn't seem to have any paperwork on it, but it was still listed on their website so I took a screen shot so I could argue it in person with them. When I told them over the phone what their website said, they immediately went on an CHANGED the wording on the website!!! That right there is shady business practice. They put crappy cheap tires on my car that I drive my small child around in. My husband was livid when I got home, as on their website it said they will replace the tires with the same tires that are on the car when it was sold to us, or if not available, the closest possible. They fought this and changed their website AGAIN. I had a screen shot of the original warranty that was on their website. I had to to return to the dealership so they could put the correct tires on the car. They were rude, unprofessional and even when I spoke to the GM of the dealership, he wasn't at all into customer service and was impolite and rude to me. I wasn't demanding anything other than the warranty that THEY sold us. After a really great buying experience, we were shocked and disappointed at how Exeter Subaru acted after they made the sale and made money on the warranty they sold us. I strongly advise staying away from them and purchasing your Subaru elsewhere. read more

Took my car to get serviced and they did a wheel alignment without asking. Added almost $100 to my bill. When I got there and complained they said it was a miscommunication and didn't I get a call? We bought a certified pre-owned CrossTek Late July/Early August. Within 2 weeks, ball bearings had to be replaced. Had it in for oil changes. Now, roughly 7,000 miles later, we will need to replace ball bearings again. read more

Tried to buy a used car. The salesmen was nice, we sat down said we wanted to buy the car. Went through all the paper work he said we were approved. He told us to come back the next day so we could talk to the financial advisor . It was kind of weird we had to come back a second day and deal with that . The next day the financial advisor called us and said we were not getting approved and we would have to put alot more money down????? Edit: To Darren, obviously customer satisfaction is not your #1 goal when you won't honor an agreement because the salesperson didn't know about your $500 fee to get the promotional APR (no other dealerships are charging this fee). We had a deal and you broke an oral contract which had been backed by a downpayment/earnest money. How can you expect anyone to trust you after that? We did our research on their website looking at a 2017 Subaru Legacy Sport which was listed at $25,907 and indicated an offer of 0% financing was available. When we went into the store we test drove the car and began to talk about finalizing the purchase of the car. When asked about the financing promotions supervisor Dave Flowers indicated that he was unaware of any financing promotions available for the Legacy. The sales person Hannah gestured to him on her computer screen and David attempted to dismiss her while my wife sought to pull up their website to show him the promotion. Upon specific mention of the 0% financing offer he "went to the back" to talk to his manager, after which he came back saying that the financing would require a $500 additional fee above the advertised price. He brought his floor manager Jason to further cement the fee. Feeling duped we left, indicating that we were unwilling to pay the fee. The following week we received a call from Isaac Patsfield asking what he could do to put us in the Legacy Sport. We mentioned the $500 financing fee. Isaac indicated that there was a miscommunication and the $500 fee was not a "fee", but rather a requested downpayment. He agreed to sale of the car at the advertised $25,907 price. We went over the numbers repeatedly and he assured us that there was no additional fee. We entered into an oral agreement to purchase the car at the advertised price (plus dealer administrative fees) and paid a $500 downpayment over the phone and gave them our financial information to get the paperwork stated. Later, the day we were scheduled to pick up the car we received a phone call first Jason indicating that the agreed upon price was made in error and there would in fact be a $500 fee to receive the APR. We told him about the entered oral agreement and the payment of the deposit (which formed a clear contract under law) and were transferred to general manager Darren Coute. Darren indicated that the agreed upon purchase price would not be honored and that he felt we were "taking advantage" of them by requesting that they honor the agreement and that the verbiage on their website indemnified them from the purchase price. I indicated that there was no indication that the advertised purchase price included any rebates or incentives and clearly suggested to an ordinary customer that the advertised price was combinable with the 0% APR offer. Darren refused to honor the price and continued to claim they would be "losing over $3,000 on the deal", despite that Isaac had clearly agreed to the deal and David Flowers and Hannah were both privy to deal and were the ones who took down our financial information. TL;DR Exeter Subaru's website misled us on the purchase price of a new car by failing to indicate that the advertised price included "incentives" which were not combinable with the 0% APR and Exeter Subaru failed to honor an oral agreement which was reached and earnest money down payment made. Given their refusal to honor an agreed upon deal and a clear oral contract entered I certainly cannot recommend that you do business with their sales department. This is New England, there are plenty of other Subaru dealership in the area who will clearly list their prices and any uncombinable fees or incentives and actually honor agreed upon deals. I guess there's a reason why Exeter Subaru still has sixteen 2017 models in stock four months into the 2018 calendar year when other dealers are trying to push 2018s out the door to make room for the 2019 models. read more

My Family is shopping for a Subaru Impreza. Looking at a used limited (at another non-subaru dealership) vs a new Impreza so we stopped in Exeter Subaru. Could not have been more happy that we did. David the salesperson and Dan the sales manger walked us through the differences between the cars, new vs old, gave pros and cons on BOTH cars, rare to find a dealership give positive review on a car they're not selling, very refreshing. They were very HELPFUL, which sounds pretty basic but is pretty had to find nowadays. All future cars searches will certainly start with a stop here first!! read more

Though I've never dealt with the sales guys, I have dealt with the service: If you care for your car do NOT bring it here - go to Ocean Subaru, Bought a brand new 2011 WRX, love the thing. I brought it here for routine maintenance (7500miles) which includes 'topping off fluids', 'check tire pressure', 'Multi-point inspection', etc. and rotating tires. Needless to say the only reason I went for these was because I'm still under warranty and am playing by Subaru's 'rules'. After going through my car a few days later to try on some rims I found the following and was disgusted with their performance. 1. My fluids were NOT 'topped' off, my coolant was below the min line 2. When trying on the rims, I literally couldn't get my lug nuts off. I had to take an 18" bar to get extra leverage. If I was on the side of the road with a flat, I would of been screwed. (minor, but lugs were also extremely dirty from the impact gun. But with 7500 miles, let me get some clean lugs please) I highly recommend going to 'Ocean Subaru' instead. Not as nice of a waiting area, but much better service people. read more

I can only describe my experience with Subaru Exeter Service - and it was beyond excellent. I bought two used Subarus for my children in Exeter in 2016. The buying process was pretty non-eventful and simple. Due to poor maintenance on behalf of my daughter we ended up with a serious issue. The fault was ours but Exeter Subaru was very responsive and professional and did all it could to address the issue cost effectively. As it broke down well away from home I had two other mechanics price out the repair. I then called Exeter Subaru and they asked me to have it towed there and they would 'do their best' for me. They did - they did the job for a fraction of the other quotes, did it quickly and on time and its run very well since we picked it up. The service department was excellent working on my behalf and called me several times to keep me informed and to confirm the work was on schedule. Christine Smallcomb and the others in Service made me feel like they were looking out for me, pretty unusual in these situations. I'll be sticking with Subaru Exeter service going forward. read more

BUYER BEWARE! This dealership sells "wholesale" cars. I went and looked at one that seemed like a great deal. However, when I had it checked by my mechanic, I was told that the entire underside was rusted out and that it could break in half at any moment. I was told that they were basically selling a "totaled" car. In addition to that, there were several other major issues that would cost thousands of dollars to fix. When I returned the vehicle, I gave them all the paperwork from my garage, and told them my mechanic had said this car is dangerous and not road-worthy. I thought they would be ethical and pull it from their lineup, but no- they are still selling it! I don't know how they can sleep at night knowing they're risking somebody's life by selling this car. They do post a disclaimer saying they're selling the wholesale cars "as is" and they have "no knowledge" of the condition of the cars. However, they DO have knowledge of the condition of this particular car, so this is a lie! If they are willing to be this unethical for a couple thousand bucks, I shudder to think what other shady practices they're engaging in. read more

After my previous experience on 3/18/2016, I was pleasantly surprised by a phone call from the service manager. She apologized for my poor experience and went above and beyond to retain me as a customer! That goes a long way in my book, so I agreed to come in for my Level One maintenance on 3/26/2016. I was told the service would take about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes, but, was again pleasantly surprised when I was out of there in about only thirty minutes. Not only did she realize my time was more precious to me that the cost of the maintenance, but, we also came up with a massive corrective action plan to remedy the situation as a whole. read more

He made an appointment for an oil change and he got one. And a full engine clean as well. They left the oil cap off. He pulled into the driveway and the car smelled like burnt shoe leather. When he popped open the hood - bam! - oil. Everywhere. He called, they apologized profusely, promised a clean up and a car wash for the trouble of having to make the 30 minute return trip (an hour and a half wasted in total). Only to receive the vehicle back with the exact same uncleaned exterior but slightly cleaner under the hood. No offer for a "make up" oil change or other incentive to return. I traveled from Haverhill for this. They had appointments available. Now I know why. I'll be taking my vehicle to Auto Fair Subaru of Plaistow from now on. Thanks Exeter Suburu, you are underwhelmingly awful. Love it when shop managers and dealerships live up to their storied reputations. I had a Legacy GT serviced at Exeter Subaru and they seemed more amateur than a VIP Discount Center. They don't keep records of what they do to your car, they performed a service on it and told me it needed something else. I told them I couldn't afford it at that time, but would be back. When I went back less than a week later, they acted annoyed that I couldn't remember what THEY told me they would repair. As if I'm the mechanic? The tall service writer with the argyle sweater and glasses was full of himself and RUDE. The parts associate just laughed as the service guy copped and attitude with me. As I left they said something while I was walking away, but didn't repeat it when I asked them to. I wasn't aggressive at all, and yet they showed no professionalism. I think they're too caught up on pushing the business cards for their Import ricer clubs and showing off their "911beaters". I'm sure I'll probably see them at some dunkin donuts showing off their ride, because if they drive like they do business, those cars are in poor hands. Avoid all New Hampshire Subaru dealerships. But they aren't as bad as... Ocean Subaru. The ~Ocean Subaru Experience~? AWFUL. From the overweight sales mgr who thinks he's cooler than he is or the arrogant general mgr with small man syndrome, both of whom can't use the intercom w/out sloppily slamming the phone causing an irritating and unnecessary clatter. Worse yet, the receptionist who clearly thinks shes hotter than she is with annoying heels that echo through the showroom with unmatched clacks much like that of a loud cartoon clock. But worst of all, the epitome of a "used car salesman", Rick- the salesman who swears on his own daugher, things that a carfax disproves. Nevermind a dense seeming duo of service writers who have the personalities of moths. They put cars out on their lot that are not thoroughly gone through. Subaru makes great cars....but once they run into electrical issues no one else can servcie them other then the dealer and dealer service is a scary proposition though. -----short version ---------------------------- Car won't start because of electrical issues. Rebecca in service says 'Sure have you're car towed here, we'll diagnose it and tell you whats wrong for $50". We are don't operate like a dealer that is going to nickle and dime you for everything, we know you just want to figure out whats wrong with your car, is basically what she said after that. I think 'hmmm thats a great deal, i guess i don't mind paying for a towing with a probable tow back to the house since diagnostics are only $50. At that point i trusted this dealer and felt good paying to tow my car there. I tow it there and then I get a call from Rebecca. She says "Oh no no no, you didn't tell me the car was not registered or that you took panels off the interior to get to the cars computers.... That $50 diagnostic charge is now $200 if you want it done!" I was so trapped. First of all at no point did anyone ask me if the car was registered and second of all if some of the interior plastics are removed to make diagnostics easier to get to the computures that shouldn't raise my contracted service price 400%. They knew they had me in a jamb too since I already towed it there. Furthermore, she put the blame on me as if I was trying to hide something and lied to her about the car... She went on a rant about how she's too honest..... I'm thinking huh, are you kidding me. I just wasted a towing and I have to listen to this garbage? I never deceived anyone. 'MY CAR DOESN'T RUN. I WANT TO PAY YOU TO TELL ME WHATS WRONG.' I even gave them my VIN number and told them which trouble codes I was reading prior to me shipping my BROKEN car to them. So shady. So I just told the driver to tow it back. In the mechanical world, trust is everything. I'm not dealing with anybody who's gonna play games like that. Purchased a new Subaru Outback from these people and so far not happy in the least. under 36000 miles and I keep getting oil light low oil warnings. I have added oil because it was low and I change my oil religiously every 5000 miles. I had a conversation with a woman in another dealership that had to replace 3 engines in her out back because they kept running out of oil.So you can understand that this is a major concern for me. I called and they asked me if they are doing the oil changes and I said that I change the oil in all three of our vehicles and have been doing so all my life. Not my first rodeo when it comes to changing oil. I was told I need to bring it in and let them change the oil and bring it back after 1500 miles so they can check and see how much oil it used. Mind you this is a 2018 outback with under 36000 miles on it. This low oil followed with low visual on the dipstick check requiring me to add oil should not be happening.So at 62 years old with probably over a thousand oil changes including my Piper Cherokee I am not qualified to pull a dip stick and do a visual only SOA can do this and they will not back the engine if it goes. So I am going to play this little game because I want this problem on record even though I called in the past to tell them of this problem, but they can not find a record of it? I am interested if anyone else out there is having this issue with oil consumption and warning light coming on before the next 5000 mile oil change is due. I am also wondering if this is an ongoing problem that is being swept under the rug given the story I got from the woman with the 3 engines that needed to be replaced. I mean I owned a diesel 1986 ford escort that required cylinder heads about every 20000 thousand miles that they honored up to 60000 miles and after that the customer was on their own. Needless to say I have never purchased another ford in all these years. I always wanted a Subaru and planned on purchasing a second one when my wifes Versa is used up, but that will only happen now if purgatory freezes over. So does anyone have this problem out their with the low oil light going on and having to add oil on a rather new car with low milage from Exeter Subaru? read more

I was lied to and cheated out of my tires. Don't ever buy a car or anything from Exeter Subaru! They cheat you; the consumer; and don't keep their end of their contracted bargains such as tires for life if you bring your vehicle for every oil change and updated maintenance. They make you come in every 2500 miles for oil changes and we all know 5000 miles is okay. They don't tell you whichever comes first, the miles or date maintenance is due so we assume either/or. Out of four years of fulfilling my part of the bargain and bringing my car the 45 minute drive for ALL, maintenance, I ran over the mileage only 2 times. Consumer beware! My wife and I decided to stop in on our way to Portsmouth for our date night. We showed up at 5 minutes until closing on a Friday and spoke with Jimmy. Despite not wanting to keep them after hours, he continued to show us vehicles for an hour, until we zeroed in on our top choice. We decided to wait on pulling the trigger until we really searched around and thought about the decision. Not only were they the best price compared to a few other dealerships we checked into, but they also offered twice as much for our trade-in! We came back the following Monday and were assisted by John (Jimmy was off, buyback arranged for John to take care of us). He took me out for a test drive and we decided to purchase the vehicle. The price that they quoted was as we discussed a few days prior and the interest rate they estimated was spot on! They even gave me a military discount to top it off. Great employees. The only reason I am rating this service department with a full star is because I can't rate it less than that through Yelp, and I feel a responsibility to warn people. Do not go to Exeter Subaru to have your vehicle serviced. Went to the service department- as I have for the entire life of my Impreza, despite not liking the service department too much, as they really don't tell you much and seem a bit bothered by any questions I have- with a bubble in my tire. Was told I needed to replace all 4, which I was expecting. They refused to honor the Free Tires For Life Deal that I am a part of, and quoted me $820 for 4 new STOCK tires- NOT all seasons- with alignment. I have been a loyal customer of this dealership/ service department for years- always getting all of my oil changes and maintenance done here, despite the exorbitant costs of routine maintenance. I figured it was worth it since I get free tires for life. Had no idea they would flat out refuse to honor that deal. The customer service rep didn't even try to work with me. When I asked her to explain why they were refusing to honor the deal, she began to speak to me as though I were a toddler with little understanding of words. When I told her I did not want to book an appointment and planned to get an estimate elsewhere, her response was, "OK!." She actually seemed happy to be losing my business. I immediately went to NTB and was treated wonderfully. They upgraded my tires to all seasons, offered me free alignments for 3 years, and a year of Road Hazard for $575. It makes me sad to know that after years of being a loyal customer to Subaru and paying all of their over priced maintenance fees, they didn't feel any responsibility at all to take care of me. They do not care at all that they lost a loyal customer with their obnoxious behavior and lack of customer service. If you are looking to be treated with respect and to have all deals honored, DO NOT GO TO EXETER SUBARU. Their service staff is rude, borderline unethical, don't provide information, and do not care about general customer service. Go to NTB. read more

Went in for an oil change and state inspection, came out with a car that was unsafe to drive. Technician did not replace the radiator cap, days later all coolant from engine drained, left me stranded on the side of the highway with an overheated car and 3 small children. Also left my high beams unplugged.....? WTF? Brought car to other mechanic to have the work done recommended at the dealship and none of the repairs actually needed to be performed. So they were (1) going to cheat me out of about $700 of "work" on my car and (2) actually caused damage to my vehicle. After going there for 5 years to have my Outback serviced, I'm done. What is wrong with this place??? They rush you into buying, promise you that you can drive away in no time, and it literally takes HOURS to just see the finance manager- one person, one office! In the meantime you wait hours just to get the rate you are getting after the sales person plays games in regards to what you are getting for payments, rates, etc... when in fact that very well might not be the case....ok nothing new w/ dealerships and this is not fast food, but it has never taken close to the time it took me just to see the finance mgr (and who knows how much longer, as I finally just walked out) as other times I've purchased cars in my lifetime. read more

BE AWARE BE AWARE BE AWARE BE AWARE Worst dealer i ever been to. I just ended up buying the subaru because i spent the whole day in there otherwise i wouldn't have bought it. I drove one and half hours to get there and The first thing i asked even before test driving the car was if i could take the car home the same day because i needed the car for the next day to be able to go to work, the salesman Eric assured me that i could do that, that was 3pm. After seating is his desk for 3 hours waiting for the papers to be done because they didn't have enough staff he told me a couldn't take the car but i could take one of their cars and return on the next week, so i took the deal. Two more hours went by and he said the paper work couldn't be done because it was too late(8pm), i was really pissed because i waited the whole day and then he told me to go somewhere to eat and be back in a half our and the paper would be done. I came back and waited another hour after the paperwork was done by the the FINANCER, GREG witch was a douche, instead of apologizing because the wait time he was making jokes about it saying that he needed to get home also, he got mad about the fact that i didn't wanna wait until the next day to do the paperwork, of course not because i live too far and i had waited all day already and nothing was done, so GREG chose the bank that gave me the highest apr right after assuring me that with my credit score i would get a very low apr, so i got almost 7% and he even told me to go refinance with DCU which i got 1.98% apr because he said it was too late(9:30pm) to do it. He also got really mad after i refused to buy those WORTHLESS and EXPENSIVE warrantees that he offered me, he was saying that my car was going to brake and that my car has no warrant after making me buying the car saying that the car was a "subaru certified" and it had 100k miles or 7 years power-train warranty. And after the deal was closed they didn't want give the promised car for me to drive until mine was delivered. Overall its just a bad place to buy a car, after all these hours, headache and stress no manager even came to apologize. They are not flexible on prices, not a penny discount. They had no clue about state laws, i had the hardest time registering the car and i only got the car 3 days later. Need repairs on my 2005 Outback that Exeter Subaru first quoted at $2200. When I balked a bit the service quoter said that he would take $200 off since I had other work done there before. I remained luke warm to the quote. He said he wanted to talk to the mechanic. Returned with a 10% discount off of the $2000 so it was now going to cost me ~$1800. Took the quote, blacked out the dealership name and prices (it was an itemized quote) and went to Ocean Subaru. They took a few minutes to look at it and came back with a price of ~$1,850. No games. No hassle. No "discount" fraud. Straight forward first time out. They got the business and will likely get the sale on my next Subaru. read more

My husband and I had a very unsatisfactory experience at Exeter Subaru. Our car, which was not purchased at Exeter Subaru, was experiencing problems that were covered under the 60,000 mile warranty--although our mileage was VERY close to that number. We were told by the female technician that they could not service my car, which was leaking oil, until the next week, and to avoid "voiding the warranty", to "not drive too far so you don't go over 60,000". We were also told by the same technician that there were no loaners available for this "three day repair" (actually four full days!) and that they could only give us a loaner if we "decided to have other services done to the car as well." So much for courtesy! When I communicated to the staff that I had purchased an extended warranty on this car at the time of purchase, they denied that I could use this because it was in my cosigner's name....BUT neglected to look at my registration to see that the car is indeed registered in both our names, therefore making the warranty absolutely valid. My husband and I were without a car for almost two weeks. The service technician was rude and disrespectful on the phone when I tried explaining the situation and our concerns. Although the service manager was polite and distantly apologetic when I spoke with her about this, I still would not recommend servicing any vehicle here. Way too much of a hassle and not worth dealing with the disrespect I received from this particular technician. Protect your investment and don't waste your time!!!!!!!!!!! read more

My car buying experience at this dealership was fantastic. My salesperson, Max, was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional while my partner and I test drove a 2017 Forester XT with Eyesight. We loved it! After the test drive my partner and I left the dealership because we also wanted to test drive the Mazda CX-5, which Max was fully aware of and never pressured us otherwise. We decided to go with the Forester. Max and his manager had to locate the specific vehicle I wanted, which they did. Pricing was simple due to the fact I went through a discount program from my employer. The finance process was painless and efficient.
