Buyer beware! The first thing you should know about Subaru and this dealership is they will NOT stand behind their cars! Also do not do the new clutch recall on the WRX it ruins the car!!! Subaru of America actually told me that the Sports car the WRX is not built to be driven aggressively! What a sorry excuse for a sports car! I shouldn't be charged for a sports car on my insurance if I can only slowly drive around in it like a old man! I have done my service at this dealership for 2 years now. I have spent thousands of dollars and this is how they treat me. They ruined my car then wont fix or even try because they don't want to eat the cost of dropping my transmission again to work on the clutch they messed up, which it took 3 days to install last time which also tells me something went wrong. Why would I lie about this I just want it right I am the one loosing time and dealing with the stress. If it was fine I would of just said thanks and been happy. This is all very disappointing. I highly recommend looking at other car brands before you buy a Subaru, learn from my mistake. Unfortunately it turns out the customer service is a joke and they hardly negotiate on price so forget about getting a good deal, the service is not worth the price as I have discovered. I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Exeter Subaru. I'm a graduate student attending a university several hundred miles away with a tight budget. I found a used 2008 Impreza here within my price range and was told it was in excellent condition, had been well taken care of, will absolutely last past a 5 year loan, no red flags on the CarFax, etc. 500 mile flight and signatures later, I took it to my mechanic to give it the once over before driving 8 hours back to school to find broken grounding wires on the engine, a front bumper that was broken then glued back together and a frame that's nearly rusted out and won't last the year, let alone my drive back to school. This car probably should not have passed inspection but it was given a clean pass by one of their mechanics. Fortunately, the GM allowed me to cancel the deal and return the car. If you purchase a used car from this dealer, please get an outside mechanics opinion first! read more

Above the incompetence and run arounds, I am most frustrated by the attitude of the service staff. This is my experience, and while it might not be everyone's experience, there are some important tips you should take away when dealing with this service department in the future. 1st: know your warranties. Brake pads, windshield wipers, and clutch are covered within 3 years/36,000 miles. At 30,000 miles I was told I needed rear brakes badly and that it would cost $309 (on top of the $589 for the Level 3 service). Luckily, I happened to be bored in the waiting room and googled "subaru brake service". Up popped the "wear item warranty". I asked the service member about this coverage and he responded "no this is a wear item and is not covered under warranty". I then spoke with Subaru national customer service to find out what is/not covered under this warranty and they confirmed it should be and I had them speak with the service department. It ended up being covered and saved me $309! 2nd: stand your ground. So far, I count 2 instances where I have had an issue and they have dismissed me saying "it's not possible/this never happens" or "it's normal". If you feel like there is something not right with your car, you need to have them document it in writing that you've told them so they keep a record. My hood cable (i.e. what allows you to open and close your hood) was not working. I was not able to close my hood several times and when I called to discuss the diagnosis from another mechanic, they were pretty condescending. They asked "have you been in an accident" to which I responded no. They said "this never happens and if it does, it is usually associated with an accident. bring it in and we'll be able to tell if you've been in an accident". Insinuating that I was not telling the truth. Let's just say it was broken and replaced under warranty. And I had not been in an accident. Another more serious (and still unresolved issue) is the fact that I need to add oil to my car between services regularly. It is a huge inconvenience and safety hazard that I am told is "normal" for Subarus. In fact the service department responded with "Have you ever owned a Subaru before this car?". When I said "no", they proceeded with "oh, this is normal for this type of engine. It's not like other cars". However, not a single Subaru owner I know (old and new) has ever had to put oil in their car between services. That tells me it is not normal. In addition, I would have never purchased this car knowing I would have to be putting oil in the car when it's 10 degrees out! Not to mention there is a pending lawsuit against Subaru for exactly this issue for exactly my model/year. In summary, I love the way the car handles, its features, etc. I have not been satisfied with the level of service received in the service department. I would go as far to say that I have not been treated with courtesy or with respect at this service department. When my warranty is up, I will not be returning for service at this dealership. Again, this poor rating is not for the sales department (they were great! and I felt it was a fair price, etc). This poor rating is for the service department. read more

I reached out to the internet sales department in regards to a car that a searched showed up at their dealership.I live several hundred miles away but I am searching for a very specific brand/model with certain options and have been searching for a couple of months. The car at their dealership was a perfect match. Upon speaking with the sales clerk I requested several additional photos of the car before I travelled over 4 hours to see it in person. I was informed the used car associate was too busy to send me additional photos that day. I left my contact information and waited until the next day. When I did not receive a call or email with the information I requested I called back the dealer and spoke to the same clerk who put me on hold, upon returning to the call the clerk informed me that as a used car they refused to take additional photos for me and my only option was to come and view the car in person. I asked to speak with the manager who's direction this came from and was told he was too busy to speak with me but I could leave him a voicemail which I did. Needless to say this manager never called me back. A dealership that won't provide additional details on a car or send out a few additional pictures upon request is down right disgraceful customer service and willingness to make a sale. I strongly suggest avoiding this dealership and bring your business somewhere else. If I could give zero stars on this review I would. read more

Service shop and management has gone completely downhill since the revamp in 2015. I had been going to their shop with my Subaru for 5+ years and built a great relationship, until the remodeling in 2015 where most of the staff was replaced. Now the current staff and especially the Service Managers are incredibly unhelpful and rude. There is no more personal feel to the shop anymore and every customer is treated like another wallet, unlike in the past. I would highly recommend going to Ocean Subaru, which is less than 20 minutes away from this shop, for future Subaru dealings. read more

Horrible. This was the worst car-buying experience I've ever had. The check engine light came on the day after I bought it and they blamed the problem on me. Now I have a new car that I can't get inspected. They gave me the same line From Dave M.'s review about it being inspected when it left so they had no responsibility. Shady. Thanks for nothing. In such a rush into pressure you into buying, promise you that you can drive away in no time, and it literally takes hours to just see the finance manager- one person, one office! In the meantime you wait hours just to get the rate you are getting after the sales person plays games in regards to what you are getting for payments, rates, etc... when in fact that very well might not be the case....ok nothing new w/ dealerships and this is not fast food, but it has never taken close to the time it took me just to see the finance manager (and who knows how much longer, as I finally just walked out) as other times I've purchased cars in my lifetime. I should have listened to acquaintances and friends who forewarned me about this place given the other options in the region I could shop for a Subaru. read more

This dealership is an absolute rip off. During the purchasing process they tried to get me to go through their "preferred bank" which was half a point higher than the advertised interest rate. They tried to sneak that detail past me as I was purchasing it. Also, they claim that they will give you free tires for life. What they fail to mention is you have to purchase an alignment with every oil change or you lose it. I hate sneaky, backhanded dealerships, and this is absolutely the last time I will buy any vehicle from them. read more

Purchased a pre-owned vehicle in late 2015. Purchase process was fine, no issues other than it took what seemed like forever but I know that is common. Had a problem during the warranty period. Got the run-around about coverage and eventually told to speak with the sales manager who wouldn't take or return my calls. Had to show up in his office to get a response. Finally took care of problem under the warranty. The service department, when putting the vehicle back together, neglected to install an engine Shield. This immediately caused the destruction of another shield due to a snow storm the day it was picked up. Called immediately and told to bring it back. After an hour of waiting in the 'lounge', I was told the forgot to install the engine shield and that if I can get them a part number of the damaged shield they would see what they can do. After 4+ weeks of going back and forth, never getting the call back I was promised every time I called, I was told they wouldn't cover the replacement part. They couldn't be sure it wasn't already like that. Total cost of part.... 192.50 (150 online). Service at this dealer is pathetic. Once they have your money, they never want to hear from you again. If you do have a problem, be prepared to be ignored and have to fight to have the problem taken care of. Do your homework, read through all the reviews and then make your decision. I know that I'll never purchase another vehicle or have any service done at this dealership. I'll also be sharing the details of my poor experience with anyone who will listen. I can guarantee the 192.50 will be nothing compared to the cost of poor customer service and incompetence. read more

I recommend driving right by this dealership. In November 2013,my wife purchased a Honda CRV rather accept the pitiful deal offered at Exeter Subaru. She had looked at a couple of GMC vehicles & the Honda which she purchased. She wanted to look at a Suburu so she went to Exeter Suburu,and I accompanied her. She had been offered what we considered a very fair deal at Dover Honda- better than book value for her excellent but aging 2003Camry,plus a significant additional discount. At Exeter Suburu we first dealt with a very nice young man who had three weeks experience & absolutely no authority. We waited an extended period while the sales manager looked at the Camry,did credit checks (her credit rating is about as high as is possible),and whatever else he was up to. He then offered us $418 for the Camry(Kelley Value about $3100) and absolutely NO discount from MSRP. The CRV and the Suburu Forester had pretty much comparable features-leather seats , sunroof etc and MSRPs. The offer was presented by the diminutuive young sales manager who put it in front of us and said "initial here". I have bought about ten new pickup trucks and several new cars since the 1970s. I told the sales manager- completely truthfully-that it was the worst deal I had ever been offered. He acted shocked,asked "what will it take to get you to buy right now". My wife then said she felt pressured and just wanted to leave.We left,drove home,called Dover Honda and said we would be up to buy-and we did just that. I considered my brief dealings with Exeter Suburu to be a quite distasteful experience. read more

If I could give less then 1 star I would definitely do so. My experience at exeter subaru was terrible! I spoke to the internet sales team and was directed to Jen. I was helping my mother-in-law purchase a legacy and was looking for a smooth transaction. We negotiated prior to arrival on a certain vehicle and price. Nobody was friendly when we arrived to the sales floor. I was not told I would not be meeting Jen and when asked where she was they said "she is in a meeting". Everything really went south when we were filling out the paperwork and as they were collecting payment. The car was suppose to have 3,300 miles on it as advertised and as stated while on the phone during the negotiation. The price was set with the assumption that the milage was correct. When papers were being signed the actual milage was 6,100. When my mother-in-law questioned the sales consultant he stated "mistakes happen" very nonchalantly and unapologetically. The sales manager was equally rude and not willing to rectify the problem. I asked to speak to Jen again so she could clear up this with the verbal confirmation of our deal we had over the phone and nobody was willing to get her, they simply said she cannot come out because she has to answer phones Biggest b#@!$%. Car problems usually means a big (inflated) bill, lousy service and long waits. After my independent car mechanic retired a few months ago, I was anxious about bringing my car back to the lousy dealership service I had received in the past. I searched online for positive reviews on dealerships and decided to try Exeter Subaru. WHAT A FIND! From the first call I made to schedule the appointment (took me in that day) to the friendly (really!!) welcome I received when I arrived, I was incredibly impressed. My car was looked at thoroughly (I came in with brake problems), a customer service representative met with me to explain the problem and took the time to actually show me the issues while looking under my car. The mechanic explained the repairs that needed to be done and also showed me what will be coming up in the future. Recommendations were made, with options to postpone some repairs that were not needed immediately and prices with labor were given to me upfront for each item. Given that the work would take a few hours, I was offered a loaner car to use during the 3 hours the work would take which was wonderful (although the lounge/waiting area was comfortable enough). Upon completion of the work (done when promised), the bill was reviewed, notes were added for me about upcoming work to consider in the future and an explanation of what was done. No arrogance here. A truly honest, genuine, great atmosphere. I HIGHLY recommend this dealership. read more

I've procrastinated since April to post this review. We were assisting our son in the purchase of his first new car. Chose this dealership after price shopping on the internet so that our daughter and son in law could get their $500.00 referral award. When it came time to close on the vehicle they insisted that we needed to meet with their finance person despite our already securing financing from our own bank. We wanted to show up, take delivery and be on our way. After a brief discussion lacking any customer service the finance person told my wife that she should probably purchase the care elsewhere. We received a follow up call from the general manager who agreed to refund our deposit without delay. We felt bad for the sales person who assisted us (Briana) but their finance person was a jerk to my wife. I believe they did not want to do the deal at the price they had quoted and pay the referral fee they had promised. We were actually going to pay slightly more than another dealer so our kids could get their referral bonus. Bought the same car for less money and no run around from the Subaru Dealer in North Hampton. My son got his Subaru CrossTrek and is very happy with it. Lots of dealers selling Subarus, don't waste your time with this dealership. read more
