I've used Precision Auto for over 30 years now for my Saabs and now my Volvo's. When you take you car or even if you call, you get the same awesome person every time and his name is Mike. He's the owner and the glue that makes this place run like a clock. If you own a Volvo XC70 you need to bring your car here because there is a very good chance that you don't even know that your coil springs that supports the car in front and rear of the car are cracked and broken at the very bottom where they sit in the Strut Housing! This is the second Volvo that this has happened to and I've been on the forums and it appears this is a very common problem and your car won't pass inspection if they're broke. So if you own one, do yourself a favor and call me and get these fixed before you get caught off guard! Mike and the Team at Precision ordered me 4 new springs for the front and rear and installed them in very short time yesterday (01.27.23) and the car actually drives like a brand new car! The bump noise and feel is completely different and I'm extremely satisfied yet again. As easy as some things are to fix on the car, it's just satisfying when you take your vehicle into Precision for one thing and they told me that I had two corner running lights out and the fixed them for me! Now this is an honest company that truly takes care of their customers new or old. Give them a call you won't be disappointed! read more

I was in town for the day and had a minor car emergency of no brake lights. I found them on google and was taken aback by their customer service and quick turnaround. The staff at Precision auto do great work, but more importantly they are good people. In an industry where trust is the most valuable (and scarce) commodity, they have repeatedly shown how they put their customers first. I wish every business owner had the same leadership style and philosophy - "Treat your customers right, and they'll return with friends" - should be their motto. Took my wife's Mini Cooper in for service. It took several visits to figure out the problem. If you're looking for white glove service and constant communication this is not your place. They are not in a big rush. However, they are trustworthy and charge fair prices. We will use them again for sure. read more

Great customer service! This guys are honest and good people. I was refered to them by a friend of mine. I went in once after Subaru told me I needed brakes and rotors and wated to charge me a fortune. They could have replaced both and charged me for it since that's what I requested, but my rotors were fine so they just resurfaced them and charged me for breaks. It is nice to know that they aren't just trying to make a quick buck off of you! Their prices constantly come in at hundreds of dollars less than what the dealer quotes me for repairs. Yes I have to agree with some that sometimes it takes them a minute to get your vehicle in! but I honestly would not go anywhere else with all 3 of our volvos! He was recommended by 1 personal friend and our trusted garage guy in Kittery which sometimes Volvos are temperamental and Bruce is like nope...go see Mike! Lol & as far as being expensive I think they are fairly priced you want to see expensive go try Carters European or this volvo place in Barrington good Lord!! I was surprised at how mismatched my experience here was with the reviews. I came with a specific repair request - transmission work and new brake pads. I was told the brake pads were OK, that the vibration I was feeling was my rotor - OK, great. One more thing I don't need to fix, right? (Wrong - the pads failed inspection when I had it done later elsewhere.) So they told me I didn't have the problem I said I did, even though it would turn out later that I did. Strike one. Now, as far as service goes, they were acceptable, but expensive. The hourly rate is $100. I did like that I was able to have my own parts sent to them. Do call to keep up, though. I was promised the work would be done Monday; I called to check on Wednesday and was told Friday. Late Friday, I got a call saying the work was taking longer than expected (which was fair, I had a good amount of rust) and the car wouldn't be ready until that evening (which, since I was working and they're closed weekends (or were that weekend), meant Monday for me). So they clearly didn't start it until days after they told me they would be done. I mean, they're not skeevy or anything. I just don't intend to return. My service happened in December, just after Christmas 2012. read more

My Eurovan was brought in on 11/19 to replace the A/C unit. Brian had made an appt for 12/4 but said if I could leave it with them, they might be able to get some work fit in during slack time; so I did so. It was clearly stated that I needed to have it back by 12/14 as I needed to pack it up and head out to CO on the 6th. Come 12/16 I started calling regularly and was fed one excuse after another. Finally, on 12/16 I get the call that the van was done. Had someone drive down to pick me up (22mi each way) and when I got there, the van would not even start!! I had to get a ride back home which really taxed my friendship with my driver!! I am called to return the following Tuesday. I get the van and drive home. No chance of getting to CO in time anymore. The following day I am on my way to have the snow tires put on and the car dies 2 miles from my house. I have to have it towed from Plaistow to Portsmouth!! This time they say it is the fuel pump connector to the new control module they put in, so they repair that and the two days later I am told that I can pick up the van (3rd time here folks and he has had the van for over 7 WEEKS!!) pay my $1400 and drive home and on the way the oil light comes on and all the warning beeps etc.I decided to take it to German Auto Work in Amesbury as I was less than 4 mi away. After 4 days there (X-Mas holiday) I get a bill for $2000. The new mechanic shows me how the tensioners and pulleys were never adjusted after the A/C was put in and in fact the alternator and 3 pulleys needed to be replaced as they were faulty and the van never would have made the 2000 mi trip. So I cannot recommend this place and really mad that is took 7 weeks to get done and I had to have the work augmented to boot. But most disappointing is that I missed my family reunion which only happens every 5 yrs. I am sure if I had taken it to German Auto Works in the first place, this never would have happened and I would have saved a lot of $$ to boot. read more

Mixed experience has left me going elsewhere. I had Precision Auto preform a clutch replacement on my car and it was fairly priced and everything seemed OK upon delivery. About 10,000 miles later the clutch was slipping again (aka usually needs replacement). It's hard to say if this has anything to do with their install or if some of the parts installed just happened to be faulty. They over torqued the flywheel bolts (that wouldn't cause the slipping), the shift fork was found pretty dry (instead of greased) and the clutch pedal inside the cabin was never adjusted back to spec which may have contributed to the early slipping. (Previous clutch lasted 65,000 miles). Those three things should not have been overlooked though. When I informed them that the clutch was malfunctioning again was told that since I provided the parts for the job there was no warranty on the work and they wouldn't offer me a deal for repeating the same $800+ job even though it hadn't been that long since it was last in. As a result I just replaced the parts myself, took much longer but learned a few things along the way and now my clutch is back to working. I'm sure Precision Auto is fine for most things but I was a little disappointed they couldn't "help me out" with my problem. read more

Here's a practical testimony: I've been taking my cars to Precision for well over ten years. Ten+ years! How many businesses, car repair shops in particular, command that kind of loyalty? The reasons are simple: competence, fairness and affordability. As others have stated, this isn't the cheapest shop in town, but it may, in fact, be the most economical, because what needs to be fixed gets fixed, and gets fixed properly. Finally, the customer experience is exactly what most of us probably want at a repair shop. Mike will always take the time to explain all repairs, as well as the associated costs, and is happy to answer any and all questions about the work. Turnaround time is usually very good, especially for such a busy shop. Summing up: if you've got a car that needs repairs, regardless of make (I've brought in Saabs, Volvos, VWs and a Mini), this is the place to go; Mike and Brian will take good care of you. read more

It's the moment we all hate: when the dreaded dashboard brake & steering icons light up like Christmas trees. Took my car there this morning, and was relieved when Mike said he ran a check, reset the computer, and advised me to return in 100 miles if the brake light came on again. I asked what I owed for the check-up and he said, "No charge." I didn't know mechanics were capable of saying that phrase :-) Everyone was friendly and I was in and out of there in about 30 minutes. I was surprised by my experience as this shop comes so highly recommended. I am so disappointed with my experience. In my opinion, the staff was friendly but unclear with what work was going to be done on the car. I was very surprised by the bill and when I called to speak with the mechanic about it, he apologized for me not understanding him when we spoke. Not sorry for the confusion or the miscommunication, not saying, "oh hey, maybe I did misspeak" but he was basically sorry that I am not competent enough to understand what he was saying. So, a very expensive bill for a newer car. I would have felt better about the whole situation though, if that conversation was handled better. You always want to have trust and feel good about your mechanic and the work they do on your car, after that conversation, I did not. Needless to say, we won't be back. If you have a European car, I HIGHLY recommend European Auto on Sagamore in Rye. Doug does great work and is fair and honest. I have never given any restaurant or company 5 stars but the recent service I received at Precision leaves me little choice. I was approaching my 110,000 check-up, first getting an estimate from the local Toyota dealer where I usually had warranty work, oil changes and other minor repairs done. I mistakenly asked for an estimate for 120,000 mile check-up, the costliest service to date due to needing new platinum spark plugs, and was astounded and shocked by the estimate that I received. A friend of mine suggested I get an estimate from Precision as he had used them for years and found them to be efficient, timely and providing a quality service. I did so and compared the two estimates finding the differential of close to three hundred dollars, Toyota being the highest. Well, being wrong in the current mileage and only needing a minimal check-up, I set up an appointment with Precision in hopes my friend was right. He was. Precision does provide a very reasonable price for the courteous, friendly, thorough and high quality service they provide, something I've had difficulty finding for years.
