Hi, I visited this place on Thursday, February 27, to schedule an appointment. I requested an oil change, a plate light replacement, a passenger-side mirror replacement, and a check for the EPC light that was on my dashboard. When I arrived for my appointment the following Monday, they didn't remember the oil change or the mirror replacement, so I had to remind them. Regarding the plate light, I provided the wrong one--that was my mistake. The team did a great job replacing the mirror, and I truly appreciate their time and effort. The oil change was a bit pricey, but I also appreciate the service. However, I never asked for the check engine codes to be deleted, yet I was charged $250 for that. What I specifically requested was for the EPC light and the shaking while driving to be checked, as I believed they were related. When I picked up my car, the check engine light was off, but it came back the very next day. Again, I never asked for the codes to be deleted, and the EPC light was still there. I understand that this is an old car with many issues, but I've been driving with those check engine codes for two years without any problems. I am not a native English speaker, but I know what I said--I'm not that bad at English. The workers here are very kind, but not the best listeners, I believe. Brought my 2020 Tacoma in for and inspection and Matt mentioned that my rear end should be looked at by the dealer as he noticed a concerning noise during the inspection. I do not recommend ever bringing your vehicle here! They will treat you very very poorly if you are a women and up charge you like crazy. The technicians truly don't know what they are talking about and I think anyone could get a job here and be considered a "professional." They are extremely rude and a little damage will cause them to steer far away from your vehicle and deny service. They even deleted my review on google because they are trying to cover themselves! Aaron, Jay and the rest of the staff here were very friendly, knowledgeable and most of all helpful in scheduling/servicing my vehicle. While I waited for my car to be inspected they helped everyone equally and made sure all customers were taken care of. They were basically what you would want but not usually what you get. My inspection was completed well under an hour and they even threw in a new customer discount that I didn't even know about. Great guys overall and I now have a new mechanic spot should I need them again. A+ read more

This place is a gem. Really friendly and knowledgeable employees, fair prices, fast service - basically everything you hope to find in an auto shop. It sounds weird but I actually kind of look forward to my visits:) We first heard about them a few years ago when my wife's car broke down and had to be towed. The driver recommended she take it to Dupont's and we've been bringing our cars (even a scooter!) ever since. Just to clarify, when I mentioned "fair prices" above I meant that I think they charge what an honest mechanic should charge. They're not cut-rate prices and they're not dealership prices, just reasonable fees for competent work. They actually seem to have the opposite approach you often see at chains that offer crazy low prices on minor repairs and maintenance but clobber you when it's time for a major repair. The small stuff will probably cost you a bit more here but I've been really impressed by their prices for bigger repairs. You can tell by overhearing the employees talk to each other in the back/garage that they take pride in not ripping people off or getting into cost-cutting shenanigans. Dupont's Service Center is wonderful! I had a long road trip planned for the weekend, and my breaks had been making noise. I called Dupont's and explained what was going on. I spoke with Jackie, who was patient and helpful, and was offered same-day or next day service. I took my car (a 2007 VW Rabbit - used, and not in great shape) in the Thursday before my trip. The consultation area is clean, welcoming, and there is always someone at the front desk. I left my car to be inspected and serviced. Jackie kept me updated with texts about the mechanics' progress, and she also withstood many frantic phone calls from me. They did a thorough exam of my car, and found that not only were the break pads worn down all the way, but there were other problems, including needing new tires. Jackie sent a summary and estimate via email and walked me through the process for each repair. I was certain that I would have to reschedule my trip, or rent a car, but Jackie assured me that they could have everything replaced and fixed by Friday before noon, just in time for me to leave! Dupont's (free!) shuttle service picked me up from my apartment Friday morning. I got to the service center to find my car ready and waiting for me. I left for my trip and made the 8 hour drive with no issues! Everyone I met was friendly, helpful, and willing to answer any questions I had, no matter how dumb they were. I cannot say enough how accommodating and caring Dupont's Service Center was! Will definitely be coming back for any car-related needs. read more

These people are scammers. They steal parts off your car and chew up your rims. They have teenage kids working in the shop and ruining your car to learn, while charging you full price. If you confront them, instead of apologizing and fixing it, they will get in your face and scream at you and deny it and treat you like garbage if you're a woman, then call your partner behind your back to badmouth you and cause fights. Please take your car ANYWHERE but here! They are the worst pieces of garbage I've ever seen. Especially Dave, one of the owners. Still hoping for a positive resolution and my rims replaced. If they screw you, take them to court. They have a bad reputation with experts in the know. Wish I would've checked yelp first before trusting a "friend's" recommendation! read more

If you do not mind issues with your car being missed, or having the work incomplete, the owner yelling at you when you contact them for their mistake, bring it on down to Dupont's! I was looking for a new mechanic after 6 years of leasing cars. I read all the reviews, thinking this garage sounds fantastic. I had bought a used vehicle, wanted a full look over, the staff was very pleasant, I received notification on what needed to be repaired, which to my surprise wasn't much. Apparently a few things were "overlooked" I spoke to the owner, if you want to do that, do not expect to get a word in, he wont let you. He will scream at you. I am appalled that someone who could be in business this long has stayed in business. The other staff was great, at first. Mr. would not hear me out. Accused another shop of causing the issues, which the other shop found and suggested I bring it back to be taken care of. read more

I took my truck here for work on my power steering and they did a nice job on it although I thought the labor charges were high compared to what I am used to. My issue is that they told me my front brakes were metal on metal and they needed to be changed and when I took the brakes off a month later there was still plenty of brake left and they tried to charge me hundreds to do the brakes. Brought my car and my wife's there for several years and experienced good service. Lately, however it has dropped a lot. Most recently, my wife's car was in for a problem this past spring. They thought they diagnosed it and fixed it. They only diagnosed one small part of the problem, and when it reared its ugly head again we got no consideration for the several hundred dollars worth of labor we had already paid for. Then when we finally gave in to what they were asking, we were told that they didn't have the time to actually take the next step that day (2 hours of work!) and that we would need to reschedule and bring it in another day - this after having specifically scheduled this for over a week. They are professional, well trained, do outstanding work .....plus they are really nice, honest people. I can always trust them to go through my vehicles thoroughly, accurately diagnose any issues, and recommend what service is needed immediately and what service can be done at a later date without compromising safety. My family rides in these cars and Dupont's superior work gives me confidence they are riding safely. They do good work, are honest and charge very reasonable prices. I made an appointment to have my daughters's car inspected and, specifically, to have a CEL problem resolved. I called after the car had been examined and "smoked." I went to the shop and was told the CEL was off but that the car had to be driven. I drove it 37 miles and the light came back on. I said put a fail sticker on it and she can get it diagnosed later. She was told by them that she would have to be further inconvenienced by leaving the car rather than waiting an hour for them to find the problem. I took the car to a competent shop who immediately saw that Dupont had taken off a hose and capped the receiver before they smoked the EVAP system. They, however failed to remove the cap and reconnect the hose, and we drove the car to see if the codes would clear but of course a new one came up! After my shop simply took the cap off the tube and reconnected the hose, the car passed. An absolutely stupid rookie mistake. I do not want rookies working on my cars. Why do AAA recommend them? Before I took the car and on the phone, the service writer said blah blah it's going to be so much money. In the interim, the so-called technician "discovered" the car "needed" new rear pads and rotors. "He just noticed." OK Three hours labor to change rear pads and rotors. I can do it my driveway with hand tools in an hour. And I was never shown as promised the worn out pads or scored rotors. So the bill was around $1100 and we never got a sticker because the rookie did not reattach a hose. We paid for rear brakes she really didn't need. Steer clear of these charlatans. Just a bunch of farmboys with wrenches. read more

I wanted desperately for Dupont's to be my new Go to shop (it's so good to have one) as they were recommended to me by a good friend who also owns a shop in Dover. (He specializes in paint and doesn't have time for maintenance stuff unfortunately.) I had gone a few times and it was all well and good but I recently had a bad experience I just can't shake. Especially since I wrote an email about my experience and never received a response. Insult to injury. I went there to get my old land cruiser inspected. I live in Maine but I've had the cruiser inspected in NH for the last three years just because everyone I've been going to has been in NH. Now, my cruiser has DARK tint. I pulled in for my hour long inspection and sat on the lawn with my dog for a little over an hour until someone came to get me. The FIRST thing this guy said to me was "why do you inspect your car in NH?" And I explained. And he said "yeah well regardless of what's wrong we could never pass your truck because of the tint." He then proceeded to talk to me in the MOST condescending voice (I'm a small woman with a big old land cruiser, I'm no stranger to mansplaining but this guy....) about how my horn didn't work (it did, he removed that from the list), there was hardly any oil (he didn't add any and when I went home to deal with my own fluids the oil was low but hardly dry) and the brake pads were getting low...okay. But even if I did have them fix everything that needed fixing they would have NEVER passed my car due to tint. SO, I spent $70.00 to waste two hours of my day being talked down to with absolutely no resolve. The moment they saw my tint they should have told me that no matter what there was going to be no inspection sticker. He kept saying to me "yeah NH is cracking down" how am i supposed to know that?! The courteous thing to do would have been to warn me in the beginning and given my the option to proceed or not. Not waste my time then treat me like an idiot AND take my money. Always on the look out for a honest garage, I have tried a few through out the years here in Dover but always just ended up going back to the dealer due to either poor service, poor work, or just plain convenience. I always knew the dealer wasn't the cheapest option, but when our cars were new, it was just easy and I never had an issue with the work... just choose whatever "letter" service you where due for off the wall, drop off the car, come back, pay, and go. But as the cars got older, I noticed the dealer started pushing me to come in for more and more expensive repairs (which sounded suspicious). Then they started trying to scare me that my car wouldn't pass inspection without these repairs (which was months off). I also notice it started getting hard to schedule oil changes, the (uncomfortable) waiting room was always packed, and while not rude, the staff started treating us like a number instead of like the regular customers we had been. When it finally came time for my inspection this year, fearing the "big" bill from the dealer, I decided to ask around for recommendations on garages. My neighbor recommended Dupont's (who was recommended to them from another neighbor). I figured Dupont's was worth a shot. I have to say, I have never been to a friendlier garage in my life. Not once did I feel like they were trying to pull one over on me. When I picked up my car the mechanic even started talking "shop" to me about Honda and my make/model. (I can't remember the last time I talked to a mechanic, they are always behind "the door" - I think he was trying to make me feel better my repair was for a "known" issue and pretty common). So for that I'd give them a four stars, but it was what they did when I brought my other car in that makes me give them five stars. My other car had some major brake problems, the kind that make you wince when you get the call on what's wrong. Again, they were very friendly, did great work, and got me back on the road. But the story doesn't end there, today they called me and said that they overcharged me for a part they had ordered but ultimately wasn't needed. The part had arrived, they realized their mistake, and wanted my credit card number to credit. Talk about being honest. they could have just kept the money and I would have never been wiser. That is the kind of service that will keep me coming back. One last thing, they offer money off your next bill for new customer referrals. I referred my sister-in-law (who also had a great experience) and got a discount on my bill. read more

I've been going to DuPont many times in the last few months and have had plenty of experiences with them to get a good grasp on their good and bad qualities. To use restaurant parlance, the back of the house is spectacular. Every encounter I've had speaking with them or viewing their work has been positive. They're honest and easy to talk to and their workmanship is of superior quality. My experiences with the front of the house have always been lacking. Here are a few concrete examples. 1) After a diagnosis for repairs they say they will send you quotes. On both occasions I requested quotes, days and days passed without a word from them. Other businesses I've dealt with will call you back within a half hour with real numbers. Both times DuPont said they would send quotes, I had to call THEM back and request the quotes again. I waited 5 DAYS before calling them back. The first time I called back they arrived in my email within an hour, the second time it took another full business day for them to arrive -- that's a week from the day of diagnosis! I don't understand why they say they will send you quotes if you have to call back and ask for them. I could have already fixed the car by the time their quotes arrive. 2) On my most recent visit I was dropped off where I live in downtown Dover while they did the work. It's a 5-minute drive or less. They called me back sooner than expected saying the work was already done and someone would be there to pick me up in 10 minutes. When the driver dropped me off I offered for him to leave me at the end of my one-way street for his convenience so he wouldn't have to drive in a circle around central Dover. I waited the 10 minutes and walked to the end of my street. Twenty minutes after they originally called I'm still standing outside in below-freezing temperatures waiting for the driver who was supposed to be there 10 minutes ago, so I called them back. They said their driver is on the way and will be there within five minutes. It took a full 10 more minutes of waiting outside, freezing, before he arrived. He was very friendly at first but became dismayed that I'd been waiting outside so long. He was completely unaware I was even waiting because the front of the house simply hadn't coordinated with him. Again, the front of the house seriously drops the ball. 3) When I arrive back at the shop, two people are there at the front, one of whom is on the phone so the other person starts helping me. There's a significant increase from the quoted price to what they're now asking, so I ask them to look up the original quote to see why it's more. While that second person is talking to me and looking for the quote, the phone rings. He doesn't excuse himself, he just answers it in front of me. Now they're both on the phone and I'm standing there, waiting, while they talk on the phone, and the call isn't even a quick, "Yeah. Okay. Bye." Meanwhile, as the second guy who's now talking on the phone right in front of me is unaware of my existence, the person who was originally on the phone is apparently now on hold and slides over to help look up the quote. He can't find the quote. Apparently they don't keep a record of their quotes. I work in customer service; it's what I do all day. DuPont's front of the house has disappointed me in this regard again and again. If it weren't for the excellent mechanics holding up their end I would've already gone somewhere else. read more

Great combination of deep skills and customer friendliness. I've been taking cars here for more than 10 years and they're always willing to dive in, understand, and explain what needs to be done to get the car fixed. I've had two Saab's repaired by Duponts, which is no easy task, but they always find the parts, look for the best prices, and get the job done. One great addition has been the loaner cars, which have been a godsend as I have a warning light come up and still need to get to the office 30 minutes away. Even when I had a car issue that wasn't resolved by Dupont's more than 5 years ago, they towed the vehicle and got it right at not cost to me. If you're looking for a place that does quality work and has the best customer service bar none (I use a Honda dealership for my wife's car and can't wait to switch), go to Dupont's. Absolutely outstanding customer service! This review will not, not without attempt, do these people and their company justice. We have been bringing our Subaru's here since we moved to Dover 3 years ago and couldn't imagine ever wanting to have anyone else as our vehicle's mechanics. Not only is every employee extremely helpful and knowledgeable, but they are all extremely friendly...all the time. Whether we are speaking in person or on the phone, they've done nothing less than shown us that they sincerely care about our issue and that they personally want to help us find a solution to the problem...and with one of our cars having over 200k miles, the issues are plentiful! They are honest and their prices are comparable and fair. The personable staff and top quality work pushes them over the top. This is a new review that I am posting today March 12, 2019! The review has been updated from last March for the following reasons. I spent over $4,000 at Dupont's in the last 3 years. Last year I spent over $2,500.00 with them. I had new front brakes, cooler lines, new battery, new straps for the fuel tank plus I had my steering column repaired. Also oil and filter. They received a good review from me at the time. So this year I go in to have my annual inspection. They tell me the frame is rusting and rotting. They show me pictures they apparently were taking of the frame every year I went. But they never once have ever showed me those photo's or told me the frame was rusting until last week when they failed my car. They do not repair frames. They never took me out to see the underneath of my car and explain to me that the sub-frame was rusting until it had rotted through. If they had done that I would not have wasted $2,500.00. I paid them the $38.00 for a failed inspection and left. This has caused me a financial hardship as I am now without a car. My question is why did they not tell me this before I spent over $2,500 last year? Legally they probably squeak by. But morally they fail the test of total honesty. Being on a fixed income I trusted they would be totally honest. I was wrong and my review last year was based on what they told me then. I will not return to Dupont's for that reason. read more

Review in one sentence: do not go to Dupont's at this point, they have gone so far downhill they're in a valley. Up until a couple months ago I would have given Dupont a 5 star review. For a while they were the most consistent and helpful shop in the Dover area. Now they are not. I went in with a car that randomly stopped in late winter (somewhere in the late March to early April range). The car was brought into Dupont and (as with any people we had good luck with them before) the major issue was fixed (I don't remember what exactly the issue was but I think it was something with the fuel lines). All was well until I came to a toll booth a week later and the car stalled out. I got it running but when I shifted into second gear it stalled again. I manage to get to Dupont with much revving and rapid shifting, whereupon I am still charged an inspection fee for them to figure out that they didn't tighten a component fully. I was annoyed but still brought the car in for state inspection a couple months later. Most things passed but several minor things (wiper blades, burnt tail light, etc.) had absurd labor charges (it cost $20 for a $2 tail light) and the car failed for "obstructing the license plate" due to a border smaller than most car dealership logos. All of this eroded trust but the final straw came shortly after the car passed its inspection. After driving the car less than 20 miles after its inspection, the rear passenger side wheel locked and would not turn. I needed a tow from my own driveway and it was brought to Dupont. I demanded to know how this issue wasn't found during the inspection and was told that "we can't predict what will break". While that might be true, I don't think 20 miles is going to cause so much wear on breaks that needed to be checked for state inspection that you couldn't tell that it would fail. I ended up needing to pay almost $500 in repairs because Dupont wouldn't accept any responsibility for not noticing a part obviously that should have failed inspection. Then just to add insult to injury, when the kid brought the car up from where it was parked he tried to get me to leave the car to check the locks! He decided that the lock on the driver side door was sticking despite that not being an issue. I don't know if Dupont has lost good staff, made bad hiring decisions, has instituted policies of checking quickly rather than thoroughly, or decided that it's better to do replacements after things break than do preventative maintenance. Do not bring your car to Dupont for anything more than emergency repairs. read more

You can't ask for better service and reliability than Dupont--- I trust their suggestions and advise completely. We were in a hurry to have our RV checked before selling it to an out of town buyer--they gave us an appointment right away and finished the inspection of the RV within a few hours. In addition, everyone is so pleasant and thoughtful. We actually were able to speak w/the mechanic personally to talk over our concerns. You can really appreciate a family run business--much more personal and an all around better experience. read more

Needed to have 4 new rims mounted and a wheel alignment done, based on the reviews I figured DuPont would be a safe bet. However what actually happened is I made two trips, wasted two hours of my time. I called and made an appointment to have tires mounted on new rims, move the tpms sensors, and have a wheel alignment done, and I would be waiting. Showed up for appointment one and I wasn't listed in their system for waiting, because of their busy day it was highly suggested I reschedule. No problem let's do the next day. On the way home I thought they never said anything about the alignment, called and it wasn't on their schedule of work, adding it meant tomorrow wouldn't work. Made an appointment for a week out. Appointment two arrives and I show up, again I'm not in their system for waiting. I just start getting settled when I'm told oh the tpms sensors will break when we try to move them, you need 4 new ones (which they don't have) or you can skip them. On my car skipping them creates a constant error code that has to be cleared every time you turn on the car. I opted to not go forward on trip two, and there will be no trip three because based on my experience everything could have been avoided if the first point of contact really listened and considered what I wanted to do. Also no apology was offered by DuPont, no acknowledgement of any responsibility to the situation. read more

This place is the most dishonest garage I've ever dealt with. My car was towed to them and they performed services prior to letting me know how much the cost would be. They then told me that I needed an additional $1500 of work. I scheduled to have it towed to a reputable shop that I had dealt with in the past. They would not release my car until I paid the bill for services that had never "financially" been discussed with me. I told them it was poor customer service and that the bill should be adjusted. They literally argued with me over a bill just over $100. They said I needed to "take it up with another company". Really???? It's no wonder they have to mis-inform and rip people off to get business. Nobody would go there otherwise! Horrible experience. I brought my Jetta in for an alignment and to switch out my tires. When they put it on the lift they saw the brake pads were worn down and the rotor was damaged. They were super fast and their customer service was better than anywhere I have ever brought my car. I would recommend to anyone. read more
