I thought long and hard about what number of stars to give my experience with Excel Eyecare. Honestly, I didn't have one horrible experience, but there were a couple small things that weren't so great. All those small things added up to a not great experience.
First thing, the girl who helped me when I first walked in was nice but she seemed overwhelmed. I got the impression she was new, and kept asking others for help on how to do things. That's fine, I know that it can be hard to learn a new job. I more felt bad that the others seemed to be chatting amongst themselves, and leaving the new girl to figure it out on her own.
The girl took me back to do some tests. She did warn me that there is a test she could do that is not covered by insurance, which I appreciated.
Next I went in with Dr. Gan. She does move quickly, which can be hard. What more turned me off was that she was friendly until she asked me how I found her. I explained that I pulled up my insurance and she was the nearest provider to my home. I did check Yelp before going, and she seemed to have a strong review. She seemed almost offended that was how I found her. I'm fairly new to the area, so I'm not sure how else I should have found her.
Another thing I thought was odd was that after performing the typical exam, Dr. Gan passed me on to one of her girls up front to look at glasses. Typically (and I've had glasses since age 7 and have been to my fair share of appointments), you look at glasses at the end. I felt a little forced, like if I didn't pick some frames I couldn't finish my exam. I did find some new frames, but would have liked doing that part last.
The final straw, and the real reason I'm writing this review, came when getting the glasses I had order. I was told it would take two weeks, which would have been last Friday, and I would be called. Shortly after leaving the office, I broke my current pair of glasses and kind of desperately needed my new pair. I called on Friday and Monday but the phone just kept ringing. On Tuesday, I stopped at a store in the same complex, and decided to pop over. The door had a sign that said the office would be closed from June 17 - 24. I found it odd that I was told two weeks, with no warning they would be closed when it would be time to pick them up. Then today, on Thursday, I called to check in since I still hadn't heard anything. When I gave my name she said she was just about to call me and let me know they were in. I drove over, and when I walked in and said my name, the two girls up front started laughing. Perhaps because they were just about to call? Because I only live five minutes away so when I said I'd be right over, I really meant it? I'm not sure why, but it was offensive.
They then got another girl to help me try on my glasses. She couldn't find a case that actually fit them, so we got one that kind of worked. Don't they normally come with cases?
All in all, it wasn't the best experience. read more
