(Based on the simple items we had) We shared a Portuguese custard tart which was nice and flakey however it's very small in size. The traditional butter tart was buttery and tasted like a typical bt. Nothing too special and was quite crumbled and possibly a little old. Prices were reasonable. Service was friendly and welcoming. Didn't give us a hard time when we used our small vlog camera to document the baked goods available for purchase. No ambiance. Excellent customer service because the owner answers first thing and will put things aside. You'll find different brands of cakes and pastries like dufflet but also macarons, cupcakes, chocolates, and cupcakes. I ordered the Blueberry Devine Cake. It was far from devine. I had to use a serrated knife to cut it into portions. Then, you could not eat it with a fork as you could not break it into bite pieces. The blueberry topping was so stale it was like a pully gelatin. It all tasted good, but damn was it stale. I wrote the company and I was told that it was explained to me to heat it up before I served it. Nothing was said to me about heating it up. Who ever heard of heating a cake up to eat it. I guess I made the mistake of buying pastry goods in the basement versus on the top. I ordered Portuguese tarts, butter tarts, and pecan butter tarts. When I got back to my Airbnb, the tarts tasted kind of stale and not fresh. The Portuguese tarts I have tried many times, so this was the first one I was disappointed in. The pecan butter tart was just okay. Butter tart if you find a microwave, it'll taste a lot better. Service was good and the owner was nice. I really wanted to love Eve's Temptations. Many people came up to the counter to buy the pastries on display. Eve's is one of the many busy shops in the St. Lawrence District and you are tempted to buy everything they have. It was tough picking out a couple of sweet treats from all the different pastries they were selling. I ended up purchasing three desserts. None of the desserts were anything to write home about. I tried the butter tart first and it was alright. It was similar to pecan pie filling without the pecans. The nanaimo bar was next and I don't particularly like coconut. Funny thing, I destroyed the dacquoise by microwaving it for 10 sec after taking out the fridge. It just melted into a puddle, which is all my fault. They have a vast selection of goodies but when ever there is Sticky Toffee bundt I'm already sold.I got super excited and ordered one.Took a bite and boy I was BLOWN away.So moist and tasted perfect-right amount of toffee and sweetness a 10/10. I got so happy after the bundt cake that decided to go back to the bakery to try another dessert and my instant selection was a butter tart/flan.They had a variety of flans and I'm assuming it is one of their specialties.The flan was moist and the crust was perfect this was another sixer.My daughter tried their macaroon which pretty standard. All the goodies were super fresh and the girls at the counter were cheerful and quick. I would love to try more of their items on my next visit.This is definitely a gem of a bakery. read more

I was at St. Lawrence Market and came across Eve's Temptations. I didn't really want too much so I just got a single chocolate macaron. The staff member got the macaron out really fast and left it on a piece of wax paper for me. I found that procedure a bit odd. I wish she had just put it into a paper bag. When I actually had the macaron, I was not really blown away. The outside was pretty soft almost like a cake, which is not how it should be. The inside was better and very creamy, but nothing too great. For the price of almost $3, the macaron was not worth it. Maybe, I should have tried something a bit more simple from this place. However, if they can't make a macaron well why is this on the menu? Altogether, Eve's Temptations was nothing special. read more

I was on my way out of St. Lawrence Market, after having eaten a pretty lousy burrito, when I decided I needed something sweet. I've probably passed Eve's Temptations a billion times but this was the first time I actually stopped and perused their wares. It didn't take long for me to land on the Pecan Butter Tart, as butter tarts in general are one of my favorite desserts ever. So it's a perfectly average butter tart. It immediately loses points for being served cold; like, how not fresh is this thing, exactly? The very thick, very generic crust doesn't help matters, but the filling is admittedly quite tasty. It's very rich and sweet, and the pecans give the whole thing a nice texture. I doubt I'd ever order anything from Eve's again, though. There are just too many other options in the immediate vicinity to waste time on something that's barely passable. read more

Brownie was very fudgy and the blonde tasted like a sugar cookie, but in cake form. Both were delicious, but a little too sweet. Also service could use improvement. Even though I don't have a lot of check-ins here, this was my 4th visit. Normally I come with folks who are sightseeing and drool when they see Eve's counter. The drooling stopped after the purchase. I have to now, definitively say I don't care for their baked goods here. I'm a foodie but not a snob. I thought I'd give them another try today. I've tried enough of a cross section of bars, tarts and cookies now to say I'm done. The baked goods are over priced (yes, I know sugar, flower, nuts, chocolate are expensive), the service uneven and somehow the baked goods are 'heavy handed' and rarely taste fresh. I've been here on a Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Never have the baked goods tasted fresh. I know Eve's has been here for ages, but whatever keeps them here they are lucky to have. I've always glimpsed Eve's Temptations but have always kept a good distance from it :-) This is also another one of those shops in St Lawrence Market where the items on display are alluring but the price tags just loom up out of the display cases like those holographic projectors. But this past Thursday I set my mind to go home with some patisseries from a bake shop in the market place. I am very glad to have picked Eve's Temptations over another place that I check out. There are so many delicious and dainty looking products on display that it felt like it was already December 23rd and a good time to purchase cakes and cookies to serve people with sweet tooth at your Christmas party. Well, after going back at forth from one of the counter a couple of times, I decided six of the items, regardless of the prices. From what I remember they were: a Pumpkin Tart, a Pecan tart, a Peanut Butter Brownie square, another darker-colored brownie, a Chocolate-Minte Shortbread cookie and lighter colored shortbread cookie. I must have gone on a good day because, the cakes and cookies I took home tasted fresh and had their own respective textures, the pastry casing for both tarts were soft and chewy and the shortbread cookies were slightly soft and not very sweet, and the squares were chewy. Nothing tasted off in my mouth. They were so good to have with a cup of hot herbal tea. I'll will eagerly return here when I'm at St Lawrence Market again. :-) read more

The cookies here are so good! I ordered the Sammy Cookie and an Oatmeal Cookie. Both were incredible. The Sammy Cookie is a chewy cookie with peanuts, Belgian chocolate, raisins, and coconut. I'm usually not a fan of coconut, but decided to give it a try. It was simply the most perfect combination of ingredients and flavors! And the texture was out of this world. It did get a bit too sweet in the end, but the sugar crash is worth it. The Oatmeal Cookie was even better. I'm usually not an oatmeal cookie fan, but my dad ordered it so I took a bite...and ended up finishing the whole thing...oops! Not sure if they put crack in here, but I seriously could not stop eating it. I had a few various items and they were all very good but not amazing which is what I expect from desserts. The cookie was very nice. The cake tasted like it was a day old and the nanaimo bar was super sweet but needed more chocolate on top. Located in the middle of the lower level, it is hard to miss, they do have a lot of items to choose from so you should probably find something you will love, you just might have to work your way to it. read more

I don't think they bake much on the premises. Most are from other stores like Dufflet and priced higher than the original bakeries. For instance, if you want Portuguese tarts, go upstairs to the Portuguese chicken place by the entrance. 6 for $7 something instead of 6 for $10. Finally, service was rather rude. read more

The custard tarts...I'm obsessed. I've had custard tarts from other bakeries, bakeries known for their custard tarts. But they don't compare. Those other tarts made me wonder why Portuguese custard tarts were even that popular. But then I tasted these. I don't remember when or why I first tried them...but I haven't stopped. I work and go to school in the area, and have to restrict myself so that I don't go on a daily basis. For $1.50, you can taste pure heaven. I would prefer these desserts to just about any - and that's saying a LOT for someone who loves desserts as much as I do. After reading the other review now, I'm curious to also try their baklava. I will say though, that some of their other treats I've found far too sugary - I've tried one cookie that was very tasty but VERY sweet, and a nanaimo bar that I actually couldn't finish because it was so sweet. And I love nanaimo bars. So, generally I stick to my custard tarts, but occasionally I'll try something else. Their German brownies are pretty good too. But again - get the custard tarts. The Portuguese tart was fantastic. The lady working there told us it was one of their best sellers as well as a chocolate layer confection, that has coconut in it. It starts with an N, but I can't remember the name of it. It's super sugary sweet. Ok in small doses. read more

Tried their Apple Caramel Pecan pie. The pie was 19.99 which is not cheap so I expected good quality however it was quite the contrary. The bottom crust of the pie was very inconsistent where many parts of the pie had pretty thick crust equivalent to 50% depth of the pie. It felt like I was eating a lot or dough. The pecans were like crumbs on the pie there were no halves found. One would think most items purchased at St. Lawrence market would be good quality for the price paid, not this place. I'd like to be more critical on pie crust, when making the pie mold, every section of the pie crust must be consistent to how you want it, bottom thin outside thicker if you want. I'm not sure which armature made this pie crust but since these people aren't amateurs they must have made it like this on purpose to save costs. I cannot think of any other reason. I would never sell a pie like this. read more

After you've eaten at Mustachio's you may want to consider the 3 meter walk required to get to the best Baklava in the world. Eve's Temptations makes Baklava in triangle and cylinder shapes. The last time I ate here I was with a friend and so I bought a cylinder of Baklava and I had the cashier cut it for me into 3 pieces. When I placed the Baklava in my mouth I was initially worried because it was so saturated with honey that I thought it was going to be soggy. My worries abated though when the crushed nuts from within the dessert connected with my teeth. The ensuing sugar rush seemed to last for days. Only a true patissier could achieve such a superb result. The only thing I'd add to this is some double churned organic vanilla ice cream and perhaps some fair trade organic coffee. Also remember that Baklava is quite sticky so make sure you have some sort of a sani-wipe to clean your hands with after wards. read more

Last week, I tried the red velvet cupcake, salted caramel macaron and the creme brulee macaron. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THE RED VELVET CUPCAKE. Really disappointing. It was dry and the cream cheese icing didn't taste the way it was supposed to at all. I've even made better red velvet cupcakes using those cupcake mixes bought from Wal-Mart. The two macarons tasted fine and since I have a sweet tooth, I liked the sweetness but it could've been a bit better. Having had authentic Portuguese Egg tarts from Macau, perhaps my standards/expectations were too high when I heard Eve's Temptations at St. Lawrence Market served them. I'm actually a bit surprised at all the rave reviews for this place, particularly for their tarts, as I was fairly disappointed with them. I can't speak to the other baked goods offered here, but their tarts tasted stale and even soggy...even after re-toasting them in the oven.
