Wow, I was not expecting to be impressed with this place as much as I was. was expecting to be disappointed and think it was overpriced and a downgrade from SweetGreen. NOPE. If you're not eating meat, then the value here is so high! I got a solid bowl for less than $13 because tofu is one of the standard/free toppings so you can get a super filling bowl without any uncharges if you want. I was also impressed with the quantity and that it's served in all compostable packaging. Great labeling for allergies too. Annoying that quinoa is more expensive than rice but oh whelp. The server who worked with us was so nice (ugh wish I could remember his name, it was four letters I think??) will definitely be back. This place has nothing on Mendo in my opinion. EVERGREENS NEVER MISSES!!! Bella provided the best service today. I tried the minty green sauce (Cholula I think?) that she recommended and it was SO delicious! She really hooked me up with portion sizes too. I also ordered a regular size salad, but with all the toppings I chose (unlimited!) she ended up putting everything in a large container so it felt like I got an upgrade haha. I got a BYO salad with mixed greens, a scoop of rice, added corn, cucumber, hummus, pickled onion, cauliflower and a whole bunch of other things. I always love adding a scoop of bacon at the end so I did that, and it rly hit today. Soooo yummy and fresh, healthy, super filling, and honestly just makes my body feel great. It is very similar to that of sweetgreen which I have been to a number of times on the east coast. Not sure if there are any out here yet! I did the customized salad/grain bowl option. Went with quinoa, arugula, chickpeas, lots of toppings and the caramelized onion dressing. It was so big! I really liked the flavors of all the toppings and the dressing combined. It also includes a nice chunk of focaccia bread. The staff seem very friendly but also efficient at keeping the line moving. I can imagine this place might be very busy during the lunch hour. I went around 2:30 and there were still quite a few people grabbing and going out with their salad from here to sit elsewhere. They do have indoor seating available as well. Pre-pandemic I was a frequent weekday Evergreens customer. The build-your-own large let me customize the elements to my dietary needs and create something delicious that I could eat every day. Post pandemic I have found that as the number of locations increased, the quality has gone down. If I'm going to eat out and paying $15 +$2 feta +$2 avocado +20% tip for a salad, I expect it to be as good or better than what I can make at home. They stopped chopping the leaves which means that the dressing absorbs less and the flavor tastes like seasoned leaf. Chopping was a unique selling point (USP) and they completely lost it. Giving them 1 star so their business pays attention. Maybe I'll start my own salad company so they can remember how it's done. The UVillage location has a Homegrown 10 steps away. read more

I'm a huge fan of Evergreens Salad, so it's nice to know that there's a location at U-Village for whenever I'm in the area. And I do find that at this location, the staff gives you a lot of bang for your buck! I visited Evergreens Salad for lunch while shopping at U-Village and ordered one of my favorite salads, the spicy kale caesar salad. This salad has a kale base and unlike the traditional caesar salad, there's a kick to this one, as it comes with crushed jalapenos, seeds and all! I definitely recommend trying this if you like spice and caesar salads. And the employee there gave me a hefty amount, so much so that it would not fit in the large bowl I ordered. They're definitely generous here. Space for dining is spacious enough, including some tables outside where it's dog-friendly. As with its other locations, you can use your phone/rewards system here for transactions, and the menu features not just salads that you can customize, but grain bowls and wraps. One of my favorite chains when eating out. When you enter, it both feels & smells quite fresh & invigorating. The color palette & design is cool and the dark vibrant green is a perfect base of such a place... to stuff... your face. The staff is always generally friendly & smooth. Depending on w/e factors, sometimes the scooping of ingredients can come across as a tiny bit ditzy (airborne shrapnel from the speed they're moving the scooper/spoon thing). One of the old/former ladies at front was a familiar face from Veggie Grill downtown so that was a cool exchange of pleasantries. One of my go-to's is fairly simple yet balanced: a large size custom bowl, brown rice, various colorful veggies, sometimes some beans, a few spices/herbs and lemon squeezes for dressing. I typically skip their oil-based dressings but sometimes I'll do them because they seem to have great flavor profiles. I wish the staff could chop the order up, similar to a few other locations from back in the day. I think the foccacio bread was also vegan(?) but don't recall; I did try it a while back and it was meh (cold bread blah). Evergreens and ever so many toppings! I am a fan. For so many reasons. This chain is similar to Pluto's, Sweetgreen, Mixt, etc. They have a choose your own or pre-made salads and wraps. But, I actually liked it better for a few reasons. 1. All the toppings! That's right. "How many toppings can I get?" "AS MANY AS YOU WANT." I don't know if this was by some error, but I got UNLIMITED TOPPINGS. Boom, done, drop dead, amazed. 2.Greek yogurt, lower calorie dressing option! This was a nice offering that other places don't have. 3. They have housemade bbq sauce you can get which you can get as a finisher - super awesome. 4. Yummy focaccia bread included. I like this better than Mixt's bread. 5. SO cheap - relatively. $9 a pop for a salad is a few dollars less than SF chains. Yes, it is still lettuce and some veggies or whatnot. Whenever I decide to treat myself out to lunch, I always find myself coming here. Evergreens is a pretty decent spot to grab lunch in university village if you're look for something light. My go to is the spicy kale salad and I love making it my own version by adding their pickled onions, corn, chickpeas, and cucumbers. Their ingredients are incredibly fresh and the focaccia is a nice cherry on the top. I love seeing the salads get mixed, it's actually kind of incredible how fast it can be done. Each salad goes for $10, with upgrades to a larger size at $11. The best bang for your buck would be ordering their kid's size which goes for $6 and it is just as filling as the regular size! Don't bother adding protein or avocado in your salad. It's normally an extra $2 or $3 for a very small portion. I would come here during lunch time with caution. Sometimes they can get you in and out in 10 minutes, but there's been times where I've found myself trapped in there for 20 minutes. Not a huge deal if he hadn't seem so annoyed with me the entire time I ordered. It was also my first time in, and the guy seemed really annoyed at everything I picked, and any question I asked. Especially when I asked if you could do a half and half protein. I didn't think it was such an egregious question, as it's a chipotle style establishment. (No half and half option, it's $3 any meats). Perhaps I came on an off day, as a lot of the reviews rave about the friendly service. There was no line either. Maybe it would make things go smoother if everything was labeled. I had to ask what some things were like the dried apricot, much to the dismay of the dude working there. The salad tasted good though, I got romaine Lettuce, mixed greens, arugula, with a ton of toppings with the evergreen caeser. They Smash it so it's got a good texture. Something I'll incorporate in my salads at home. We also got a side of tomato soup (+$4), which was pretty tasty. A bit more sour than a lot of other tomato soups, but tasted fresh. My fav part about this place is their salad names. Kudos to whoever comes up with these. I've come to terms with the fact that salads are $10+. However, I have not come to terms with the fact that a little 2oz cup of chicken is $3. How do I know it's 2oz? Well they forgot to include chicken in my salad so I went back to get the chicken added. After the lady at the register inspected my salad (because, yes, I sometimes lie about whether or not there is chicken in my salad to get more chicken), I was given this cute little cup of chicken (see photo). We randomly came here for lunch and were pleasantly surprised with our visit! They have all sorts of salads you can choose from or you can make your own. We ordered the El Sombrero and The Situation. You can ask them to leave an ingredient out you don't want. You can also ask for dressing on the side, which I thought was nice. It was really fast moving, just like chipotle. The staff was SUPER friendly, which made the experience even better. Salads overall were pretty good! They were definitely fresh, had a good amount of ingredients and good flavor. Mine came with a cilantro lime dressing, I didn't love it but that's my own opinion. Other than that, they were great. Our lunch was under $20 and we were both full. We did not add protein to our salads, I think it would've been $3 extra for each. We didn't feel it was needed after we ate. The salads are pretty good size. I would definitely come back. I like salads with my meats. I'm not the person to just order a salad, but because I had classes the rest of the day I didn't want to induce a food coma. So I turned to the alternate of Chipotle of the "tree-huggers" Chipotle. I really liked the salad! Even though I ordered a small, it was enough that I was feeling full, but a good full. It was $9 for the sombrero which I added chicken to, but that scoop of chicken was not justified for $3. Now I know a company with several locations is hard to ask for a justification, but that made me really upset knowing that the kind of chicken that is usually in the high school cafeteria's chicken bar is an extra $3. Disclaimer: I love my meats, so maybe it could just be me who just needs to not choose a salad restaurant buttttt I'd like to think $3 for a scoop of chicken is just kinda ????. Despite the lettuce and it's taste, I hope that the experience at Evergreens isn't always like what I experienced, or else I could see a lot of people choosing the QFC salads. The line was long at 1:45pm but not because there were many people, but because there's one person scooping all the ingredients you want. Note, this isn't Chipotle or any heating up place where you have to wait to have your food adjusted. You just wait because there's only one person who can make a salad for many people- so I waited while he's starting up another person's salad, and finishing up the person's salad before me. Shortly after, you're moving along the lines of the sauces and the next person who then displaces your salad onto a cutting board, to get crushed, and to add the sauce. BUT, while waiting for my turn at the sauces, the cashier curtly signaled that she was ready to ring me up. It's confusing because it's a line, but because they take so long to make the salad, they want you to pay for it and basically go back in the line- it was confusing for my first time.
