We enjoyed a starter of pork friend dumplings then hot and sour soup and then kung pao chicken and beef with broccoli . All were delicious and were made with fresh ingredients . Service was quick and we were seated quickly. The decor was pleasant and a mix of small and larger tables evenly spaced so you were not on top of each other . Amongst the many Chinese restaurants in Manhattan, Evergreen is a good choice for Dim Sum or Classic Chinese, as they featured many regional selections. Everything we ordered came out in a timely fashion, and properly prepared. The inside dining area is quite large, especially for NYC. The staff was friendly, and service was prompt. However, they do cater to tour groups, and when they arrive, it can get very busy in an instant. Stopped by here on a whim and WOW everything was amazing. The chicken skewers were unreal, perfectly cooked, juicy, and coated in the most delicious Chinese five-spice seasoning. I also had the pork dumplings with Szechwan pepper sauce and I am still thinking about it. Insanely flavorful, spicy in the best way, and so freaking yummy. The bamboo shoots were just as impressive, packed with flavor and cooked beautifully. On top of the fantastic food, the service was outstanding. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made the experience feel easy and welcoming. The only reason I did not get chopsticks was because I forgot to ask. I was way too hungry and dove in with a fork. It was almost 3 pm when I realized how famished I was attending Scentxplore. While in the queue on 38th Street waiting to enter the event, I had passed Evergreen on 38 and picked up a takeout menu. So here I came to have lunch. As none of the lunch specials appealed to me I decided to have dimsum. Steamed shrimp dumplings are always welcomed in my book and Chicken and Pork Sticky Rice would fill me up. Evergreen on 38 is a largish restaurant with an entrance that has a bar and potted plants. The large dining room has many tables and a brightly lit Christmas tree greeted guests. The two dimsum came and I started eating. There were two bundles of the sticky rice which was nice. As it's quite filling I took one home. Both cash and cards are accepted. I paid a total of $15 for lunch which included a tip. Service was quiet and fine. read more

Had a nice dim sum lunch here recently with my wife. We ordered bean curd skin rolls, steamed vegetable dumplings, stuffed eggplant (with shrimp), and 2 orders of peashoot and shrimp dumplings. We also got a pot of their house tea. The food was nicely presented in bamboo steamers and tasted very good. Our server was very attentive throughout the meal. The interior is very spacious with nice woodwork throughout. Plus, they have a bar when you first walk in that you can eat at, as well. As we weren't overly hungry we shared a few plates. Basically overpriced Chinese food. For the price wouldn't mind too much but for the meals not served with rice...hmmm. I came here for takeout last week and I had a really pleasant experience. I came mid-afternoon so it was too late to take advantage of their lunch specials menu, but the regular prices weren't too bad. I ordered the Grand Marnier shrimp as well as the Kung Pao chicken. Grand marnier shrimp is one of those entrees that not all Chinese restaurants offer and it happens to be one of my favorite meals. I specifically chose this restaurant with the intent of ordering this.The kung pao chicken was more an after thought, but I'm glad I tried both. The order took about 15-20 minutes to prepare and the person who took my order was really nice. He confirmed whether I wanted white or brown rice with my order and was kind enough to throw in a soda on the house. The entrees were packed neatly and came in sturdy plastic containers. I tried the grand marnier shrimp first and saved the kung Pao chicken for the next day. The grand marnier shrimp came with about 7-8 jump shrimp and broccoli on the side. The shrimp were not overly battered but nicely crispy. The sauce had a nice flavor but was there was a little bit too much of it. I wish they would have gone a little lighter on the sauce, but I still really enjoyed it and I thought the portion size was generous. The Kung Pao chicken dish was pretty vegetable heavy but there was also a decent amount of chicken. The chicken was savory and not overly spicy since it was easy to pick out the peppers. The meal was a little greasy but not too much. I probably liked the shrimp just a bit more but I would definitely come back to try more! read more

I find the food here to be quite good - steps above most other typical Chinese restaurants. Favorites of mine include crispy beef (which really is crispy, unlike some other places, where it has the texture of calamari), scallion pancakes and shrimp in black bean sauce. The ambience is great as it has a very high ceiling and beautiful wall decorations. Prices are on the high side (although maybe not for Manhattan) and they no longer give you peanuts and some pickled vegetables appetizers as they did pre-pandemic. Like many places do now, they do charge extra for white rice (which I think is ridiculous considering how little it costs to make rice). As with all Chinese restaurants, I recommend going here with a large group so many different dishes can be ordered and shared. read more

I had the steamed vegetable buns (pictured), a veggie spring roll (not pictured), and the scallion pancakes (not pictured). We were given two sauces for the table, one was a sweet orange sauce and the other was a garlicky soy sauce (both very good)! Some of the food was a bit bland but the sauces helped a lot! Omg! I just ordered lunch here today and as I went to pour my rice into the bowl of General tso's chicken a dead fly!!!! I was prepared to give 3 stars but this has literally disgusted me and just that quick a review went from good to bad. I had heard other stories from coworkers but had never experienced the issues they had or noticed the bad rating so continued to eat here. This has never happened to me before at any restaurant. Although I called immediately after the incident, she remembered who I was, and offered me another meal or refund, I simply can't return as a customer.
