Great date-night Indian/Nepalese restaurant, slightly upscale vibes (just the right amount for me). The service was excellent and there is one free refill for the delicious chai. The naan wasn't my favorite but not bad. I think my favorite part was the drinks (my chai and the cocktail my husband got). Elegant but cozy. read more

Today Terry and I met here for lunch. Lori was unable to join us because she wasn't feeling well. The restaurant was Terry's choice. I lucked into a parking spot almost directly in front. I walked in to find Terry already seated. The restaurant had been rearranged since I last was there and I realized it had probably been since the start of the pandemic, almost three years. Sanjo greeted me and asked after Alan. I was surprised and touched that he remembered us so well. They now have thali lunch specials on the menu, which I don't remember from before. I didn't ask whether this was new, but I love the variety that thalis afford. I ordered a thali w/ lamb saag as the main. I had a choice of white rice or brown and opted for brown. The plate included raita, a small green salad w/ sliced cucumbers, carrots and a halved plum tomato. There was also half a papadum, half a naan and a tasty, green vegetable I couldn't identify. All that was $15 or $16, quite a bargain. Terry ordered chicken tikka masala as her main. We both ordered chai, which was as wonderful as ever. It was refilled at our request. Terry loved it as much as I did. It felt like a wonderful homecoming to be back at Everest Kitchen. read more

Good neighborhood spot. Very friendly service. I particularly like their lunches but their dinner is good as well. Lunch sets are very balanced and not too heavy. Perfect for a workweek. No frills. No fancy things. Good food. Chili momos are spicy but excellent. Best eaten there though. read more

Stopped in to Everest Kitchen for a light lunch, and it was so tasty! I sat at the bar and Sanjoz was my server- very friendly and quick service! Sanjoz recommended the Nimki Chaat for a good light and flavorful option, and it was perfect- Homemade crackers topped with garbanzo, yogurt, onion, spices & chutney- light and fresh with a nice little crunch to it. Nice Full service bar, so next time I'll come in for a cocktail! read more

THE FOOD IS NOT GIVING LOVE, the ribs were barely cooked and lacked seasoning, the curry lacks seasoning and was in a weak broth, the service was exceptionally slow and they were at less than 50% capacity. Not my cup of tea. read more

We had the chicken curry, chicken tikki masala and samosa chat. The food tasted good but it was a snack portion for all meals. I was very shocked to see only 4 small pieces of chicken in each dish. Specially for Indian food I'm used to getting a good portion of food. read more

Years ago, before the pandemic, we had regularly visited a Nepalese restaurant in Albany, and since we were seeking something out of the ordinary, we tried to find it again. It had closed, but this restaurant had taken its place a few hundred feet away, so we tried it. We splurged and ordered half the menu, and loved ALL of it. The service was pleasant and attentive, and they answered a dozen questions when we were ordering. Fully recommended! read more

I ordered paneer pharsi, samosa chaat, honey naan, and mango lassi via delivery which arrived on time. All of the food was delicious! You can actually taste the honey in the naan which made it nice and sweet. The curry of the paneer pharsi was a little bit spicy, but not unbearable especially with the paneer and brown rice, so I'm happy that "mild" level of spiciness is in fact mild. I loved the samosa chaat, a nice mix of cheese, garbanzo beans, more savory and crunchy bits (perhaps the crunchy parts were the samosa skin?) The mango lassi was also sweet and tasted like how I would expect. Also, I thought it was a nice touch that they wrote "Thank you Sydney" on the bag. Great food overall, and has some items on the menu that you might not find at all comparable restaurants, so I look forward to coming back sometime. read more

Food: 5/5 --Goat Curry-- A perfect dish: spice level (I ordered spicy), balance of flavors (garnish and green onion really elevate it), richness and texture, meat doneness and size. --Chicken Chili-- Really good flavors and balance of chicken and vegetables. --Mango Lassi-- The curdy texture of the yogurt is excellent. It's a bit sweet and could be more tangy. Service: 5/5 Super friendly and kind. The food took a little while but we were given dal to start. The wait was well worth it for the food. Ambiance: 4.5/5 It was quiet inside during Saturday happy hour with chill music. The patio was a little fuller. read more

Wow. It's a great experience, great food, great service. Our waiter was from Nepal, he was so helpful, great attitude. One of my kids is picky but had no problem finding a dish. Noodles were so tasty. Curries were not so spicy (my wife cannot eat Indian because too spicy). Great mix with Nepalese dishes. Lentil soup I would skip. Garlic naan - wow. read more

I've never climbed Everest, but I have flown around it in a propeller plane. Does that count? So when I see Everest in a name, my most vivid recollection is wearing my ragged down jacket and leaning over a barf bag as we kept circling around the snow cap. But luckily there was no need for a barf bag here because the food was quite good. By sheer coincidence, I ran into longtime fellow Yelper Rinky N. who was with her posse and confirmed that Jamie W. and I made a good choice coming here. We all saw the best deal was the Thali Lunch Special which basically provides everything but the kitchen sink. The price was constant, so depending on what you chose for your main dish, it was either $10.99 or $11.99. Jamie went with the $11.99 Bheda Ko Masu (Boneless Lamb) (photo: http://bit.ly/2mCRx7y), while I decided to go for the $11.99 Goat Curry (photo: http://bit.ly/2Lky9er). Each of our aluminum trays came with daal, papad, raita, Nepalese chutney, a mini-salad, basmati rice, and naan. Tasty with good quality in the variety. No propeller required. FOOD - 4 stars...the thali lunch specials are the way to go to sample the best of their kitchen AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...spacious and comfortable SERVICE - 4 stars...shyly effective and proactive TOTAL - 4 stars...no mountain to climb here read more

Flavorful and authentic cuisine. Interesting spices. Attentive service with pleasant demeanor

I'm vegan so I really appreciate the solid vegan menu they have. I ordered the pumpkin garbanzo bean dish for takeout previously and really enjoyed it. This time around was my first time dining in (a Saturday afternoon lunch), and I got the veggie momos which were good too. I think I enjoyed their vegetable dishes more though so I plan on trying all of them. They do a good job with portion sizes. They're pretty appropriate. It's not way too much and not way too little. The interior of the restaurant reminds me of a typical Indian restaurant, meaning a large space with nice tables and chairs. We were a little warm when we came in but they turned the fans on a little later and then it was nice and cool. The good food plus the great selection of vegan items makes me happy. I plan to be back soon. read more

Everything was so yummy. We ordered: - Pan Fried Lamb: This was really well seasoned and had tender pieces! - Jhol Chicken Momo: It was very tasty momo, and it was our first time getting the "Jhol" momo which has a side of tomato soup. Highly recommend this as it went very well together! I'm not sure if we were supposed to pour the soup over the momo... but that was tasty! Please feel free to correct me if we're doing it wrong though! - Saag Paneer - Oh my goodness their paneer is so good! My only complaint was I wish there were more pieces of paneer because it is so dang good! Their saag is yummy as well. - Garlic Naan - MMMM SO GARLICY! Must get if you like garlic and naan! - Samosa Chaat - This was our first time having this dish, since we usually just get regular samosas, but dang, I think this is the only way I can eat samosas from now on. It's just mouthful after mouthful of flavor! So delicious and such a treat. All-in-all, everything we tried was 5/5 in taste, we would order everything again, but we also want to try some new stuff during our next visit. The packaging was very well done - tightly sealed and no spills. They also labeled everything for us too. We ordered online and the order was ready when we got there to pick up. read more

I deeply appreciate the owners dedication to creating a wonderful experience for their customers. Last time we went to Everest Kitchen, we had a hiccup with our Togo order. After learning about this, the owners and staff were quick to resolve the issue! We're glad we got to give them another go because it was well worth it! My husband and I had the veggie korma, lamb curry, garlic naan, mango lassi, and samosas. The entrees were flavorful, and paired nicely with the garlic naan (of course!). The samosas are MUST try. Wow. They were phenomenal!! I love samosas already, but I find that some places tend to over bread them. These were perfect. These had a nice outer shell that wasn't too thick, so you really get to enjoy the flavors. I could have eaten the whole order to myself, they were that good! The sauces that accompany the samosas are also very tasty. 10/10. Lastly, the Mango Lassi was a great treat. It was the right level of sweetness for my husband and I. Overall, after our experience and interactions with the staff/owners, we will definitely be back and thinks it's worth giving a try for those looking for quality food/service. read more

The flavors and tastes and textures of the food were delicious. We recently ordered take out from Everest and were happy with every single dish. For starters, we ordered the vegetable momos. The dumplings were delicious and flavorful. For entrees we ordered the chicken tikka masala (which really had the nutty, creamy flavor that we've come to enjoy in this dish), the aulu cauli (a vegetarian cauliflower dish with spices) and the chicken curry. Each dish had a signature flavor profile. I highly recommend getting some naan bread to scoop up the saucy goodness. We ordered the honey naan (because we had never heard of it before) and the garlic naan, because we like garlic. Both were delicious. The takeout experience was very easy and efficient. The food was outstanding. I look forward to dining here again. read more

Would definitely order again. - lunch special paneer tikka masala thali 10/10 Yes please. So good. - chai 9/10 cozy and sweet read more

My first time here was amazing. I walked in and the restaurant was not very busy but I was was immediately greeted by the very lovely staff. The staff was very polite and friendly and I felt very welcomed. I ordered my food to go via phone call and my food was hot and tasty! I got the chicken tikka masala mean which come with a side of plain rice. I ordered my tikka masala medium because I was not sure how spicy it would be. The options are mild, medium, and spicy. The medium level of spice is too mild for me and next time I will definitely get spicy. The sauce is very creamy and thick, so I know it will be amazing with a bit more spice. I have been looking for a great Indian food spot and I think I have found it. The only think that is holding me back from making this spot my regular place for chicken tikka masala is that the chicken with rice is $15 + tax. I am used to getting great Indian food for around $10 in San Francisco, so it was shocking to find out how expensive this place is. However, the food was delicious and this will be a great spot for special occasions. read more

9/27 Updated Review I'm giving Everest an extra star. One of the employees has reached out to apologize for the inconsistencies in our to-go orders. I'm glad the staff read my review and responded compassionately. I love to support businesses with good people. He said if you want more tofu to ask for extra, and it will not be charged. I really appreciate that. I appreciate businesses that listen to their customers!! __________________________________ I rated this restaurant 3 stars for their inconsistencies. I've eaten here many times and I really find the food to be very good. And I love that there are vegan dishes. I think the flavors are great. It reminds me of home cooked Indian food. My issue with them is the inconsistencies. We always order the tofu saag, samosas, roti, and garlic naan. We've also ordered the pharsi curry and the aloo cauli. The tofu saag and the pharsi curry only had FOUR cubes of tofu! I paid $13 for EACH curry and there's only 4 cubes. Then, in the aloo (which means potato) cauli, only one cube of potato. Lots of mushy sauce, which is to be expected, but I'm so so so disappointed about the content in these dishes. I basically paid $13 for mushy, stewed veggies. It's annoying. Granted, it comes with rice, but I'd rather pay extra for rice and get more substance in my curries. And by the looks of the pictures on their Yelp, maybe they don't take a lot of care for the take out orders. We ordered through do read more

And, the food always comes out amazing! I try to try something new each time I go because the menu offers a huge selection, and they've all been delicious. Thali plate was good and had a nice variety of flavors and textures. I ordered the Kukhura Ko Masu which had a lot of flavor and the chicken was moist. I liked that you could choose the spice level. The papad gave a satisfying crunch when eaten with each spoonful of rice and curry or daal. Naan came out piping hot and was very soft & fluffy. Service was excellent. It was pretty empty when I got there around 12pm on a Thursday but started filling up after 1pm. One thing I didn't like was the low ceiling so I had to make sure to not stare at it too much. read more

The best chicken korma ever!. Thick, rich and creamy sauce with tender chunks of chicken. The Momos with Buffalo were delicious, mild flavored meat in a steamed dumpling in a mild spicy sauce. Thali is Indian for "plate". It's a meal generally consisting of small meat or vegetable dishes accompanied my rice, bread and starter or dessert. Thank you, Wiki. I decided to order from the lunch special menu, offered between the hours of 10:30am-3pm. They're closed before dinner service at 5pm. My chicken tikka masala meal ($10.99) came with rice (white or brown), naan bread, daal, papad, raita, Nepalese chutney + mini salad. This meal alone took me on a cultural, yet educational adventure. For one, I wasn't familiar with some of things on my plate, so I had to look up what I was eating. The daal or Indian spiced lentils was plain delicious. Packed with protein, the lentil stew wasn't particularly thick but tasted similar to a puree. It was perfect with the naan, which was thick + had a soft texture. Probably a favorite part of my meal aside from the chicken tikka masala, which had the option of mild or spicy. I chose the mild option and out came this white chicken baked in a tandoor, or clay, oven submerged in this special creamy sauce. The papad, which was this thin and crispy disc beneath my naan, had hints of garlic, but was so subtle that when dipped in the tikka masala sauce, it was easily overpowered. I wasn't a fan of the raita, but for the sole reason that I wasn't accustomed to its flavorings. This Indian yogurt and cucumber condiment is usually used as a dip. Hope you learned something! Service was friendly, but lacking. I think they were also trying to give people their space. My water glass was empty for some time. It wasn't particularly busy, but the food came out rather quickly. I might also add that their bathroom needs some remodeling. I give this place an A+! And I think I found my new, regular lunch spot. **Don't forget to check in on yelp for that 12% discount (weird number, but I won't question it). I was surprised they gave it to me on top of the excellent lunch special deal. read more

The food is good. You're not getting the most phenomenal Indian food here but you're getting good Indian food and you'll get great service and super nice staff. Toni M writes great reviews! I bookmark most of them and Everest Kitchen was no exception. What intrigued me was goat for lunch, I can take it or leave it, S loves it. Everest did not remain bookmarked for long-- I saw a Groupon and went the next day. I ordered the chicken tikka masala lunch special. In addition to the main course, it included: dal soup, salad, papadum, naan, raita and rice. S had a goat dish off the main menu. When he realized that he would not get all the all the extras I did, we order the mashed samosas to share and naan and a bowl dal for him. The chicken was excellent and they did ask how spicy I wanted it. Dal is a favorite of mine; after I finished what came with my lunch, I help S finish his. All the extras that came with my lunch were good. The mashed samosas were good; however, I think the regular ones would be better. I don't remember which goat dish S had. Whatever it was he liked it and said that there were only two bones in the dish and he could easily see them. Only the bones were left on his plate. I am looking forward to going back soon. The food and the service were excellent, and the prices are reasonable. They also have a lot of vegan and gluten free food on the menu. And the dining room is comfortable. read more

Fantastic food and lovely service. We've eaten here twice and can't wait to come back.

Everest Kitchen 3.5 Stars. Unique but a little pricey. Came here for a business lunch mid-week. I was drawn in my the high Yelp reviews. We ordered two lunch specials and one tea, and the total was in excess of $25. And that was a lunch special. The service was friendly but a little slow (despite very few lunchtime customers). I ordered goat curry at the spicy level of heat. On the bright side, the goat curry was excellent and definitely spicy -In a good way :-). Nothing else on the big stainless steel plate was very exciting. Garden salad (?), Naan which was bland, Rice which was okay, a yoghurt sauce which was good (a lot like tiziki ), some very soupy Dahl that tasted more like spit pea soup, and some other cauliflower-like vegetable curry. Also, serving all of this on a stainless steel plate was unique but detracted from the meal for my tastes. I would rather have had a good portion of curry and rice, with flavorful naan. Given all the positive buzz about this place, maybe I should come back for dinner. Also, this place is thoughtfully managed, caring about their customers etc, and I suspect they would've made things right if I chose to complain. But since it was a business lunch, it was not the time to do the foodie thing..PS this review was from a meal I had at the end of July but did not post it until September because it was in my "drafts." read more
