Seriously who does that? - No background music playing. AWKWARD? - Some pastries are out in the open for some reason, completely uncovered. - Only one outlet worked to plug my laptop into. My favorite BLTA! Soft, delicious sourdough, ample bacon and avocado. It's cut in half and I try to convince myself to save half for later - but no, I fail every time. Really disappointed with food. We ate here often pre-Covid. Today, we ordered a breakfast sandwich on sourdough and a BLAT on a ciabatta. Both breads were dried out and crumbly. We had to eat sanwiches without the bread and without the greens as they were very wilted. They had run out of most options, yet they didn't offer to make more or keep up with the production of food, they just said here's all thats left. Long story short: Nice space with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with friendly service and good food that we come to expect from Europane. Long story long: I've been to the other Europane a couple times before and I had heard they opened up another location right here across from Paseo. I came here one day after church with a handful of friends and this was a good choice as it was rather warm that day. Parking can be a little tricky and unless you're lucky to find a spot on the street, I guess your next best option would be to just park at Paseo. No, I don't think they validate for them. The space is much bigger than the other Europane, including the outdoor patio. The overall color scheme seems to go for the soft white, almost sterile, hospital like feel. Not that it did make me feel like I was in a hospital, but that's just the initial impression. I mean, I liked it. Just had a contemporary feel. There is a communal table in the middle of the space, which I feel like is becoming a little of a trend. But it worked nicely. The entire outdoor patio is covered from the beating sun, but it was still a little too warm to sit outside. I went up to order and the handful of people behind the counter worked the line fairly fast. I ended up getting the roast beef sandwich on sourdough and an iced tea. I asked my friend if she wanted to maybe sit outside because there wasn't really any seating inside, to which she quickly said no, considering it was kinda hot outside. We eventually were able to grab a table for the 3 of us, which eventually became 5 of us, then someone else came and there was 6 of us. One by one, all of my friend's food came, but mine had still not arrived, which was odd considering I was the first one out of us to arrive and order. I eventually asked about it and the guy said he'd check. He came back a couple minutes later and told me that someone else took my sandwich. WHAT?!?! How does one let that happen? They even took my name. I wasn't really mad as I was a little surprised that something like that could happen. They actually lost 1 star because of that. He asked what kind of bread I wanted and said it'd be out right away. When my sandwich finally arrived, I was near ravenous. Ok, maybe not quite, but I was hungry. A simple but elegant looking sandwich, the amount of meat justified the slightly heightened price tag. I took a bite and it was actually pretty good. It was somewhat filling yet it was light. I didn't know that the egg salad sandwich is apparently their signature sandwich, which is what a couple of my friends got and is served open faced. I'll be sure to try that next time. So, while I'm sure I'll have a better experience next time worthy of an upgrade in rating, because of the mix up with my sandwich, I have to give it 3 stars for now. But I'll be back. read more

Really disappointed today. I usually go to the other location on Colorado near Mentor where I've had their amazing almond croissant many times. Today, though, I went to this location across from the Paseo. Sadly their almond croissant didn't taste at all like an almond croissant. It was more like a cinnamon bun. The filling was a mix of brown sugar, cinnamon and what seemed to be chopped walnuts. I couldn't taste any almond at all. And why put walnuts in an almond croissant?? Also the bottom of the croissant tasted like orange zest, reminding me of marmalade. Yuck. A weird addition to a cinnamon bun shaped like a croissant. The only evidence of almond were the sliced ones encrusted on the top. But where was the almond paste inside? If you like cinnamon buns, marmalade and walnuts, you'd like this. But why not just go buy a cinnamon bun instead? It would be cheaper than going to Europane. read more

It really "panes" me to prefer the other Euro Pane down the street over this one. First, this one doesn't have brioche, the other one does. Second, the other one gives me a free chocolate chip walnut cookie with my egg salad sandwich, while this one charges me extra. The lighting is great to take photos or to do some work (but there's no free wi-fi so I don't know how you'll do any work), but the AC should be cranked up. The are so many windows that the place gets pretty warm. The Arnold Palmer seems to be popular while I people watched (I didn't know what else to do, there was no wi-fi!). There is only 2 reasons why this place falls short of me actually giving them 5 stars.... 1) They are located in a busy section of Pasadena, so parking is very limited. If you don't find parking right in front (about 5 spots, but metered), there are several parking structures that are walking distance. 2) Their menu is written on a chalk board and pretty self explanitory but anything that is behind the glass (pastries, bread, etc...), is not labeled at all. I'm sure their long lines would move a lot quicker if they had proper labels so that way people aren't always stopping to ask what everything is. Outside of those two issues; their sandwiches (any of them) is what I would highly recommend. They have an excellent drink selection as well, but I can't hold back from ordering their Hot Apple Cider which is by far one of the best I've ever tasted. I have been a huge fan of the OG Euro Pane that is at 950 Colorado Everything is fresh delicious and really no matter what you order you cant go wrong. To keep a long story short i noticed this new Euro Paine location a little more west on Colorado and thought maybe they had moved bigger and better GREAT for them! Well the other location has always had this friendly homely vibe and service was top notch 5 star kind of deal, NOT this new place the food is the same but the staff... They are so unbelievably rude and flat out horrible when it comes to customer service . everything I ordered was out of stock and it was really odd because every time they would laugh and high five each other almost like they were glad to be out of goat cheese currant bread and almond milk ? I was not sure if it was just me or were these bright eyed exotic looking men tripping out and being totally RUDE ! Nope was not just me they were total A holes and then i asked for water they would just point and huff and puff and not even talk to me ( did their mums never teach them that pointing is bad manners) I then asked do they bring the coffee to my table as they all just sat around while i was waiting they yelled at me and told me NO WAY you have to pick it up Honey ... OK that's what i was doing but they were not making my damn Latte they were just sitting staring like i was doing something wrong ! To be honest, the trip here for the sea salt macarons are worth any distance you need to go through in order to get here. They are delicious. They offer the standard lunch fair, but let's face it, who needs salads or sandwiches when you can just load up on Macarons. Yes. Come from the macarons and stay for the macarons. You can also take some macarons home. Is this review a little skewed? Maybe, but for a good reason. They really do have some delicious sweets. Service here was nothing special and far from bad. I thought they were quick to the punch in turning around customers and taking your order. So over all, nothing bad to report there. Unfortunately they only have a limited selection of macarons in flavors such as raspberry, mocha, hazelnut, pumpkin, etc. I had the raspberry and hazelnut which had a nice buttercream filling but the cookies were not good and melted kinda quickly? so weird? The four staff members I interacted with late Saturday afternoon seemed to be miserable to be there and were neither friendly nor helpful. I couldn't hear the woman that was at the cashier and even though it was clear that it was my first time there she was impatient with me. Then when I asked another employee (tall man with a mustache I believe) for the wifi password, he curtly replied that they don't have one. Weird because my laptop detected a network called 'euro' with four bars and no other places nearby have 'euro' in the name. If it was for operations only he could have told me that instead of being rude. Americans love their sandwiches, and I am no exception. I had the famous egg salad on multi-grain bread. It's an open faced sandwich, but it seemed more like egg salad on a giant crouton. It was good, but not great. But let's be honest, I came for the French macarons. There were only two flavors available (blackberry and hazelnut). I tried both, and I probably would have eaten my weight in macaroons if they had more flavors. These guys are bigger than normal, chewier than normal, and have more cream than normal. Great cookies, except the cream squirts out the sides when you bite into them. Shouldn't happen! Regardless, delicious cookies. This is one of those places where you order at the counter and go sit down and they bring your food. That's okay with me, but my friend got his sandwich before I did, which lead to one of those awkward Curb Your Enthusiasm moments. Should I eat now or wait till you get your food, too? The egg salad on olive loaf is very good. It's open faced. There must be a half dozen eggs on the sandwich. They are not in diced chunks like a typical egg salad. Rather they seem randomly cut and smushed and there is no chopped celery. Some of the yolk is slightly soft, which is awesome. It is really heavy, and can easily feed two people. It's the best egg salad I've ever had, so if you're a fan of egg salad, this is a must try. The lady who might be one of the owners was really nice. It took a long time for the sandwich to come out, and the lady was so apologetic, she gave me several free pastries. Among these, the chocolate croissant was very good as well. Definitely a must try if you are in the area!!! the decor of the place is cute, they have a long community table that gives the cafe an earthy, natural feel. The large windows let the sunlight hit almost every part of the room. its a great place to grab a bit and do some reading or a place to chit chat with some friends!! and if you are gonna hit up old town after, what a great place to pick up some lunch first!! Most incredible macarons ever. Holy god. Perfectly soft inside with a nice shell on the outside, and the creamy filling inside was perfectly sweet. Lots of different flavors, including fruits, and a marvelous sea salt caramel and chocolate (I think this might be my 'thing' at the moment--sea salt caramel flavored everything). Oddly, a friend and I literally stumbled upon Euro Pane's new location as we were walking back from Starbucks, having taken a different route back than we had taken on the trip over. The two of us are self-professed enthusiasts of all things baked and sweet, and neither of us could really resist the delicious things we could see through the storefront windows. A true friend is one who traverses the town with you, bakery to bakery, and leaves half of her lemon bar in the office fridge for you because she knows you're working late. I loved the staff, and all of the other people visiting Euro Pane seem happy and excited to be there. On my second visit, I got the oft-mentioned egg salad sandwich, which I'd been really excited to try based on the great things I've been hearing about it. It really was brilliant! The egg salad itself is very rich, and it's combined with fresh mixed greens and a sundried tomato spread on the toasted bread beneath. It was incredibly difficult to figure out how to actually eat it successfully (I have anxiety about open-faced sandwiches in general--the tartines at Le Pain Quotidien give me a heart attack just trying to think about how to properly eat without dropping everything all over myself), but luckily I figured it out and was on my way. The flavors are so perfectly complementary, particularly with rosemary currant bread. There was also a chocolate chip and nut cookie tucked into my to-go bag, and the cookie was lovely. I also grabbed a latte and will easily concede that the coffee is way better than Starbucks or Coffee Bean OR Peet's. I learned that the reason it's so much better is that it's Jones coffee! Now, Euro Pane. I have a pleading request: start making your food about half the price it is now, so that I can eat it every day. Also, thanks for not making fun of me when I use my "six years of French in school" accent when I order macarons. Reminds me a lot of the situation of Father's Office. Original is a hole in the wall, nothing glamorous, but damn good food. New one definitely has a more hip and stylish atmosphere, and so now you're thinking, sweet, good food and a cool place to enjoy it in. While the location is central, right across the Paseo, and the look is much more hip, the food and the quality of service is alright. They still serve your neighborhood favorites, macaroons and egg salad sandwich, but for some reason, it seems same same but is different. Can't really say why, but its just not that uber goodness I get when I bite into the egg salad at the original. I love their sweet potato sandwich, but I ordered it to-go today and got a meatloaf sandwich instead. When I called to get a new sandwich the girl gave me serious attitude and wanted the meatloaf sandwich back. I walked back to pick up the correct sandwich and the girl practically dropped my sandwich while she was shoving it at me as she ran by. No apologies or really even any acknowledgement whatsoever. I've been here several times now and this place never disappoints. The egg salad sandwich is what it's all about. Creamy, fresh and comes on delicious bread of your choice. With that said, their sweets are also really good. Obviously people love macarons. These are a bit different and much larger than other macarons. They're chewier and a bit creamier in the center - which may be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the texture you prefer. The hazelnut is quite sweet, but delicious. Stopped into the newer location for a try at breakfast. Unfortunately, their Quiche Lorraine was completely sold out. I asked what they had that was similar, and they simply stated "Frittata." All right, I'll get a Frittata. ... This is the saddest frittata ever. Bland. Watery. Way too big. Really? You don't have to actually sell slices that are this massive. If this Frittata was good, I would've still only been able to eat half of it. And you know what? If the slice was smaller, so would the price, which would have been nice. On the bright side, the inside of this place is very interesting, and I'm a big fan of the big wood table they have in the seating area. On the downside, the display case area is very small, and you can't really see it clearly until you're right in front of it, and the problem with that is you don't have time to figure out what you want. Another problem with that? They don't label anything. I'm not a fan of the two EuroPane locations I've been to and how they just don't label anything. The last thing I want is to hold up a line or being held up a line because I/someone has to know what everything is so we can make a well-informed choice about what we could like to try that day. I know that what you have each day varies, but it's not like it's difficult to make some laminated labels for your usual items that say what they are, maybe even with the very brief description for the item. You can stick it in a little metal card holder and put it in front of what you stick in the case - take it out when you have no more of the item. To quote the Barefoot Contessa, how easy is that? I am glad for their boards up behind the display case that do identify a few things, like sandwiches, but they could make things a bit easier on customers. EP reminds me of La Pain Quotidian with a large communal table - so cozy! I was really hoping to get some macarons but alas, the macarons where nowhere to be seen (sold out). *sad face* I didn't want to overeat since we had a dinner party to attend so Tim H. (el hubs) and I split a blueberry with jam and cream brioche and coffee latte. The staff was really nice in heating the brioche for us. VERDICT? The brioche was good heated up. It's a simple little thing with the right mix of jam and cream. I tried my friends' desserts too.. the chocolate brioche and apple strudel - both were dry and kinda meh. One friend commented that the chocolate brioche was the same as the ones you get (frozen then reheated) at Trader Joe's. latte... I thought it was really good but Tim H. and I both agreed that we were either too tired, the caffeine never kicked in or it was decaf! BTW... they DON'T take American Express!
