I've been coming to Euro Pane since the original owner opened many years agok. I could never decide what to get as everything was amazingly delicious. I know due to the pandemic this place like lots of others have struggled, but the quality of their goods have gone down hill since reopening. I was advised that their baker is out until further notice and that they are getting their baked goods from another vendor. Well, they need to find a new top rated baker or find someone else to purchase their bakery items from as the products they are now selling are sub par. The scones are more like a piece of bread with some fruit in them and the Danish are not much better. Owners, PLEASE reinvent yourself and bring back the quality of your products the Pasadena community wants to support you, but I won't be back until I know things have improved. read more

Most incredible macarons ever. Holy god. Perfectly soft inside with a nice shell on the outside, and the creamy filling inside was perfectly sweet. Lots of different flavors, including fruits, and a marvelous sea salt caramel and chocolate (I think this might be my 'thing' at the moment--sea salt caramel flavored everything). Oddly, a friend and I literally stumbled upon Euro Pane's new location as we were walking back from Starbucks, having taken a different route back than we had taken on the trip over. The two of us are self-professed enthusiasts of all things baked and sweet, and neither of us could really resist the delicious things we could see through the storefront windows. A true friend is one who traverses the town with you, bakery to bakery, and leaves half of her lemon bar in the office fridge for you because she knows you're working late. I loved the staff, and all of the other people visiting Euro Pane seem happy and excited to be there. On my second visit, I got the oft-mentioned egg salad sandwich, which I'd been really excited to try based on the great things I've been hearing about it. It really was brilliant! The egg salad itself is very rich, and it's combined with fresh mixed greens and a sundried tomato spread on the toasted bread beneath. It was incredibly difficult to figure out how to actually eat it successfully (I have anxiety about open-faced sandwiches in general--the tartines at Le Pain Quotidien give me a heart attack just trying to think about how to properly eat without dropping everything all over myself), but luckily I figured it out and was on my way. The flavors are so perfectly complementary, particularly with rosemary currant bread. There was also a chocolate chip and nut cookie tucked into my to-go bag, and the cookie was lovely. I also grabbed a latte and will easily concede that the coffee is way better than Starbucks or Coffee Bean OR Peet's. I learned that the reason it's so much better is that it's Jones coffee! Now, Euro Pane. I have a pleading request: start making your food about half the price it is now, so that I can eat it every day. Also, thanks for not making fun of me when I use my "six years of French in school" accent when I order macarons. Reminds me a lot of the situation of Father's Office. Original is a hole in the wall, nothing glamorous, but damn good food. New one definitely has a more hip and stylish atmosphere, and so now you're thinking, sweet, good food and a cool place to enjoy it in. While the location is central, right across the Paseo, and the look is much more hip, the food and the quality of service is alright. They still serve your neighborhood favorites, macaroons and egg salad sandwich, but for some reason, it seems same same but is different. Can't really say why, but its just not that uber goodness I get when I bite into the egg salad at the original. I love their sweet potato sandwich, but I ordered it to-go today and got a meatloaf sandwich instead. When I called to get a new sandwich the girl gave me serious attitude and wanted the meatloaf sandwich back. I walked back to pick up the correct sandwich and the girl practically dropped my sandwich while she was shoving it at me as she ran by. No apologies or really even any acknowledgement whatsoever. I've been here several times now and this place never disappoints. The egg salad sandwich is what it's all about. Creamy, fresh and comes on delicious bread of your choice. With that said, their sweets are also really good. Obviously people love macarons. These are a bit different and much larger than other macarons. They're chewier and a bit creamier in the center - which may be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the texture you prefer. The hazelnut is quite sweet, but delicious. Stopped into the newer location for a try at breakfast. Unfortunately, their Quiche Lorraine was completely sold out. I asked what they had that was similar, and they simply stated "Frittata." All right, I'll get a Frittata. ... This is the saddest frittata ever. Bland. Watery. Way too big. Really? You don't have to actually sell slices that are this massive. If this Frittata was good, I would've still only been able to eat half of it. And you know what? If the slice was smaller, so would the price, which would have been nice. On the bright side, the inside of this place is very interesting, and I'm a big fan of the big wood table they have in the seating area. On the downside, the display case area is very small, and you can't really see it clearly until you're right in front of it, and the problem with that is you don't have time to figure out what you want. Another problem with that? They don't label anything. I'm not a fan of the two EuroPane locations I've been to and how they just don't label anything. The last thing I want is to hold up a line or being held up a line because I/someone has to know what everything is so we can make a well-informed choice about what we could like to try that day. I know that what you have each day varies, but it's not like it's difficult to make some laminated labels for your usual items that say what they are, maybe even with the very brief description for the item. You can stick it in a little metal card holder and put it in front of what you stick in the case - take it out when you have no more of the item. To quote the Barefoot Contessa, how easy is that? I am glad for their boards up behind the display case that do identify a few things, like sandwiches, but they could make things a bit easier on customers. I had no idea Euro Pane spawned itself right across from the Paseo mall! Having heard so much about the original, I was so glad my friends decided to go for desserts here! EP reminds me of La Pain Quotidian with a large communal table - so cozy! I was really hoping to get some macarons but alas, the macarons where nowhere to be seen (sold out). *sad face* I didn't want to overeat since we had a dinner party to attend so Tim H. (el hubs) and I split a blueberry with jam and cream brioche and coffee latte. The staff was really nice in heating the brioche for us. VERDICT? The brioche was good heated up. It's a simple little thing with the right mix of jam and cream. I tried my friends' desserts too.. the chocolate brioche and apple strudel - both were dry and kinda meh. One friend commented that the chocolate brioche was the same as the ones you get (frozen then reheated) at Trader Joe's. latte... Euro Pane definitely has the best egg salad sandwich, no questions asked. This is a must try, especially on the rosemary or the cranberry bread, life is good. This cafe is just so cute, as the decor is borderline urban, but warm and inviting at the same time also. I especially love the wooden community table that you are greeted with when you first walk in and the large bread display cabinets next to it. At first, I thought the bread rolls in this cabinet were fake and just there for advertising purposes until I saw the the employee walk up to the cabinet and start pulling out bread for one of the customers. This has to be one of the hippest display cases for baked goods. As for the egg sandwich itself, it's just DIVINE. It's seriously as good as egg salad sandwiches get, no joke. It's not your typical sandwich where egg salad is accompanied by two pieces of bread, but rather, the eggs were topped on a piece of artisan bread of your choice. The egg was a little more cooked than over easy, where the yolks dont exactly flow out, but it's at that point where it's still not fully cooked, just perfect. Each bite, complemented by toasted bread, was of pure happiness. After coming to Euro Pane over 3 times, I still haven't had the chance to try anything else other than the egg salad sandwich, which I hope I will have the chance to one day, but I dont regret it. I was desperate for some sweets so my husband and I dropped by to pick up some macaroons before heading to the arclight across the street. We ordered 2 sea salt caramel macaroons and 1 pistachio macaroon. Although the flavor was good, the texture was off (too chewy) because the macaroon was COLD... I think it wasn't fully thawed from the freezer. If I'm paying ~$2 per macaroon, I expect something freshly baked. If frozen macaroons were what I wanted, I would've bought a pack at Trader Joe's for $5. read more

Euro Pane has always been about good old fashion comfort pastries. Their pastries are earthy and oversized (except for the eclairs). Their egg salad open faced sandwich looks amazeballing good. I was too full to get one but will be back for it. Back in the days they had a Rosemary scone that won best of LA show and I was in love with those. They also had a lemon bar that got me hooked on lemon bars. That was over a billion years ago. Bring back the Rosemary scones please!!!!!!!!! MACARONS! you can't come here and NOT try the macarons. that's just blasphemy, and sad. I like that their macarons are bigger than normal (vs paulette or bettega) but the price is about the same, if not cheaper. You definitely have to go earlier for the infamous sea salt caramel one though. I also finally got to try their egg salad sandwich, and all I can say is NOM. If you love eggs, especially the "al dente" half cooked eggs, then this is the sandwich for you. Think the boiled egg they put in Daikokuya ramen, but in egg salad form. How can you say no? They also let you choose what type of bread you want your sandwich on. I wend with the cranberry walnut, and I really loved how the slight sweetness in the cranberry offset the overall saltiness of the sandwich. Would definitely recommend this combo if you haven't tried it. It is an open faced sandwich though, and as such is a bit messy, but you just need to be little patient, and should probably eat it with a fork+knife. The only thing I would recommend against is their red velvet cupcake. The cake is moist enough, but the frosting is all wrong (too salty??) and the flavor of the cake is kind of off too (too much cocoa?). I don't usually say no to red velvet, but this one was just meh. I would save the red velvet cravings for dots or sprinkles, and just stick to macarons and pastries/breads when you come to euro pane. read more

Here is my go to place for brunch. I have been here for two times, and today was my third time. I am a big fan of their egg salad sandwich! Today I decided to get something different, and tried meat load sandwich. They didn't fail to disappoint me. My friend got europan salad but didn't really enjoy feta cheese herself. Tried Euro Pane today. I have to give them a three star review because my choices were limited. Before I get into the food, let me describe the inside. Very clean looking. Simple yet elegant decor. Long wooden table with tall vases of lovely flowers was the centerpiece of the place. The table was a delight. We had a party of nine so we sat at this table. They had a nice and ample display case of their bakery items. Everything looked yummy. The place had a clean smell, which is a plus for me. I have the nose of a bloodhound, my husband says, so restaurants with funky smells (like the odor coming from the smelly, over used dishwashers) really gross me out. This place pleased my senses. Their menu was cleanly written on two (or three? I forget) chalkboards. Lots to choose from...or so I thought! It was breakfast time when our group arrived. Reading the menu, the breakfast sandwich sounded real good. I was just going to order it but I was told they ran out! What the?! 9.30am and you ran out already? There was another egg dish I was going to order but again ran out. My hopes for a yummy breakfast were somewhat dashed. I settled, then, for the oatmeal. However, when I tasted it, I knew I didn't settle. It was freakin' good oatmeal. Very hearty and the portion size was generous. Although I didn't get to taste the breakfast sandwich, someone else in my group did and she raved about it. It was really good, she said. Others in my group ordered the egg salad sandwich and everyone loved it! Maybe I should have tried that. Overall, it was a nice experience. I finally made it out to check this place out after I've been hearing about it for a few years now. All I heard was the egg sandwich is amazing. During my visit I tried the egg sandwich, roast beef sandwich, and all the different flavors of macaroons (except blackberry). Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with the egg sandwich, felt it was somewhat bland and the salad contained too much egg in comparison to other ingredients that made up the egg salad. I am sad to report that the restaurant has been sold to new owners and the quality of the food and service has declined. I work close by so I go there often but I think today was the last time. They have many of the original items on the menu but nothing tastes the same. The quality of the ingredients has definitely been downgraded. I have many examples of poor service over the last couple of months. Today I ordered the Strawberry Chicken salad with a slice of Rosemary Currant bread. When I got to the office I had a salty chicken salad (NO Strawberries) and a slice of plain and dry french loaf. The space was remodeled and the original charm is gone. The food quality is poor. We have been going to Euro Pane for two decades; starting at the original location and continuing to the new location. Sumi Chang's deliciously consistent pastries and goodies always brought us back. However, after Sumi sold her restaurant and despite reports that she left her recipes behind, I must sadly report Euro Pane has seemingly lost its heart, soul and edge. Our family favorites, the apple strudel and the pear tarte were nowhere to be found this morning. The plain croissant remains, but it lacks the love and care I came to expect when Sumi was at the helm. Their flexibility in breaking the rules and making a sandwich at 8:00 am is now gone; a heartbreak for my son who loved their turkey sandwich in the morning. Famous Egg Salad Sandwich - This sandwich is indeed good. I'm not a fan of egg salad but this is more of an egg sandwich than a mushy egg mayo mess. The eggs are perfectly cooked. Smoked Salmon Open Faced Sandwich - This is your typical lox sandwich. The standout is the bread. Chocolate Tart - I only had a bite of the Chocolate Tart but it was quite good. The crust was very flaky and the chocolate very rich. Coffee Macaroon - The macaroon has a very strong coffee flavor and is very chewy. Love the texture. Cranberry Walnut Bread - This bread is delicious and only $5 a loaf! Lunch here is decent but the bread is amazing. Come for the bread and the desserts. I totally need a separate stomach for pastries and sweets. I could eat them endlessly! My eyes got way too big for my stomach when I came to Europane. =P My friends and I came for lunch on a Friday. It can get crowded but the rush of people comes in waves. I ordered the seared chicken sandwich, butternut squash soup and three macaroons (salted caramel, pumpkin and hazelnut). Later I went back and ordered a blueberry brioche and a berry tart. I could of ordered way more though. Everything looked so good! The seared chicken sandwich was ok. I found the pieces of chicken to be a bit dry, even with hummus spread. The cranberry walnut bread was good though. Breads are definitely their strengths. The butternut squash was good! The cup size was a good portion and it came with a roll. The pureed soup came out piping hot. On to the sweets! The salted caramel and the pumpkin macaroon were delicious. I think the pumpkin is a seasonal flavor. Big and chewy. I found the filling to have just the right amount of sweetness. The hazelnut on the other hand was just too sweet for me. The blueberry brioche definitely taste better warm. The filling was light and the blueberry was generous. The berry tart was probably one of my favs. The light spread of jam on top with the hazelnut filling in the middle was a nice treat. The slice of tart was dense but not too sweet. I also tried some of my friend's egg salad sandwich. Generous portions of egg. I liked that it didn't have too much mayo and wasn't over seasoned. It was good and I think she liked it. Service was good! The line moved pretty fast and the food came fast too. I definitely want to come back and try some of other macaroons, baked goods and sandwiches. The menu also serves breakfast on the weekends. Oh and no validated parking. So park across on the street the Paseo and get your ticket validated at the machine near the entrance of Gelson's. I'm loathed to give this place even three stars but must confess that their baked goods are of the highest quality and the best to be found for several miles. Unfortunately, the place suffers two huge minuses. Firstly, the staff - rare it is in this day and age to encounter such uniform rudeness and incompetence in the service industry. The staffing here comprises a half dozen young Armenian guys in Ed Hardy T-shirts comparing tramlines while the line snakes to the door and young girls perfecting the art of the dismissive eye-roll. The customer service is almost comically bad - like you're being punked for a hidden camera show. Secondly, they are incapable of making a cappuccino. This may not be a big deal for some, but I'm a bit of a Nazi when it comes to cappuccino. A seemingly simple combination of coffee, milk and foam, she is, in truth, a difficult bitch to wrangle: when done well, she's all dark and creamy perfection; done badly, she's little more than beige-tinted cause of third degree burns. She's a demanding mistress that can only be tamed at the hands of an expert. In Pasadena, Jones and Intelligencia can make her purr. Europane cannot. The swill masquerading under the name Cappuccino is wildly inconsistent in it's awfulness: one day little more than a scalding cup of boiled milk, the next a feather-light cup full of foam. The irony, and comedy, is to be found in their vehement insistence that both are correct and authentic. If you can handle having your request for a blueberry brioche twist received as though you'd asked them to retrieve your umbrella from the roof of the US Bank building, then by all means visit the place. Just please, for the love of God and all that is holy, don't ask for a cappuccino. read more

I always walked passed it and never got to go in because I don't get off work until 6 p.m. I ended up stopping by, on a whim, and I wasn't expecting anything amazing but mediocre and expensive. I came here with my boyfriend for lunch one day and it had been on my Yelp bookmark list for a while already. I love the feeling inside the bakery/cafe - it's pretty earthy and homey feel. The service was pretty good - unfortunately for my boyfriend they were out of eggs benedict for the day but from everyone else that had it at their table it looked pretty darn good. We both ordered the chicken salad sandwich and the french dip sandwich and both were pretty good. This place does tend to get busy but there is both indoor and outdoor seating. I stopped in while perusing old town because I saw that this place had been on best thing I ever ate on food network. The featured item in that episode was the egg salad sandwich and the caramel macaroon. Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of egg salad sandwiches but I gave it a shot because how could I turn away from something that was considered the best thing [adam gertler] ever ate??? The sandwich was very good, all things considered, and wasn't as egg-y or mayo-y as most other sandwiches, which I enjoyed. I got mine on an olive bread but apparently the rosemary currant is also a popular choice. The sandwich comes with arugula(?) and a tomato pesto which goes GREAT with the olive bread. I also got a pistachio macaroon because they were out of the caramel and it was very yummy. Water is available self-serve at the utensil/condiment bar and I helped myself to that but apparently the arnold palmer beverage is very popular there as well. Anyway, the reason for only three stars was because I didn't think the service was all that great. It was hard for me to catch someone's attention to ask a question before placing my order and the entire time that I was there, the adjacent table had dirty dishes on it that weren't cleared despite about half a dozen people on staff chatting behind the counter. The pastries all looked really yummy but I didn't indulge today - worth a shot if you're with a group though! Went here for the bread. Not all that impressed. The big deal for me here was that they seem to pretend that they make European bread. But they don't. When you get it they are surprised when you don't want it sliced and completely don't understand when you do not want it put into a plastic bag. Seriously? Hey, I like crust. You don't mess with the crust. Oh, wait. I know why! The crust is nothing to write home about. Meh. Flavor in the loaves (multigrain and multi with cranberries) was okay, but if you are hard up, go to Trader Joe's and get some La Brea bread. Better crust on those, even though long familiarity with La Brea has definitely bred more contempt than perhaps warranted. Did not try the macarons. I suppose people go there to get those. But if I am going to a bakery and the bread feels like they haven't figured out that some Americans like bread with crust and flavor, then I doubt highly that I will be back. I've been going to the original for about 20 years. When the business got sold, the change was noticeable. I loved Europane for their interesting pastries, seasonal ingredients, and attention to craft. The new owners seem to be trying to cut cost by selling basic American pastries. I'm not interested in brownies, lemon bars, and Costco quality croissants. Bring the old recipes back, please. This review for 2 stars for their kind staff. read more

We had Veggie Qishe and French Toast. I especially loved quishe, so flavorful!! We got some almond and chocolate croissant for to go. We will go back to try egg sandwich, it looked soooo good! Coffee somehow came out luke warm, we had to ask them to heat it up. But I am sure that was just the person didn't make it right. The flavor of coffee was strong enough and great. I am giving 5 stars anyway. :) read more
