A few of my fun purchases.

I hadn't been to this store in years, but I'm so glad a Yelp Elite event reminded me that it existed, because this store is such a local gem and I definitely plan to return next time I need a fun gift for a kid (or for a kid at heart!) They have a great selection of STEM-based toys, as well as dolls, stuffed animals, and picture books, plus Legos, puzzles, coloring books board games, and so much more. They also have a good-sized "hobby" section which stocks all kind of model and RC kits. The staff are also so friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend this store!

My first time in Eugene Toy and Hobby took me down memory lane for sure. What a cool place. I told Alan that I wanted a nice kite that I didn't have to actually 'fly'. I've had stunt kites but was looking for one to take out and just watch it fly. He recommended this beautiful 76" Dragon and just nailed it. As Murphy's law would have it we went over to Yachats on Mother's Day and there was literally 1-2 mph wind. The next trip there was a perfect breeze. It was so easy to launch and it just stayed up in the air as solid as could be. At the initial launch I captured my dog, Nikki, admiring her first kite flight as well. Thanks Alan, great recommendation!

    Well stocked LEGO aisle.

They have a good range of stuff, from baby toys on up to stuff for older kids. Coloring books, blocks, toy cars, fidget-spinners, little guitars, and everything in between. It's a big store and nicely designed, so it's fun to walk around and check things out. Of course it's very kid friendly. Given the 5th St. Market location, you probably won't find any bargains. That being said, the prices seem pretty reasonable. It's definitely worth checking out!

This toy store is truly one of my favorite in Oregon. It has a good selection of classic children's toys like Playmobil, Hot Wheels, and Brio. They also have a great selection of children's books and puppets to help foster a child's creative learning. As a side note they also have a few of these classic coin-op rocking animals including an elephant and an Oregon Duck-the mascot for the local university. The staff was great and very knowledgeable about activities appropriate for certain ages and developmental levels.

Game store in Eugene specializing in tabletop games and things like Magic/Pokémon cards. I've been…read morehere a few times when I was home; once upon a time there was a woman organizing a ladies game night and I went to it a few times, lots of fun. They have several tables set up in the back for folks to play games from the store's collection, or you can bring your own and play. They do have a good store collection if you're looking for something to try, or you can buy something off the shelf and give it a whirl! I was here once with someone who was looking for some novelty version of a Catan or something and the guy seemed a little snooty about it... or maybe it was Tixket to Ride? Anyway it might not be a game he plays but he works in a game shop so it would make sense to know about upcoming releases, and not say that it's not something he's interested in so he doesn't know. Board gamers can be snobby, but TTR is good and though it's not my #1 fave (that's Grand Austria Hotel), it's fun. They do have a really good selection of games here; I picked up my copy of Splendor here, as well as the Lanterns: The Emperor's Gifts expansion, and they have many of the standards like Brass, Catan, Carcassone, Dixit, and so on. I think but don't know if they buy used games, so give them a call if you have them. This store is actually the small one from my understanding. Their flagship is in Medford, which I haven't been to, but I think that's also where their distribution arm is as well. I have Kickstarted a LOT of games and it's always cool to see it's coming from Funagain; feels like supporting a hometown/near hometown business. Parking can be difficult here depending upon the time of day, events happening at the store, and events happening in the neighborhood. Luckily the LTD station isn't too far away so that is a solid transportation alternative.

Dragonvine is a well-stocked store with something for every fan of comics, anime, and manga. I've…read moreshopped there several times and basically enjoy it. most of the younger workers there are pleasant and accommodating. Whenever I'm on that side of town, I make excuses to go there. Today I called to inquire to see if a graphic novel was in stock. The guy on the phone told me he didn't have "old stuff like that" ...when I'd purchased something like it from his store mere weeks ago. He told me to "come in and look for it" and we hung up. He'd been very brusque, and I hadn't felt good about the interaction, so I tried calling a few minutes later to say that I didn't feel valued as a customer, but I didn't get to complete my sentence. He told me he didn't have time for me and that "they were a busy comic shop on a Wednesday." Cool. I called Radar Toys and Nostalgia Collectibles and asked them for the same graphic novel. The first politely asked me to hold while they looked through their computer inventory, then apologized that they didn't have it. The second recognized the book and also apologized that he didn't have it. Y'know. Basic customer service stuff. A customer calls because they're hoping to make a purchase. If that's frustrated or met with indigence and condescension, why would they patronize your store? I don't like posting negative reviews, but I still feel gross about the interaction. I don't plan on returning to the store again anytime soon because of it. the other stores I mentioned have better prices, are closer to me, and have much better service.
