Dragonvine is a well-stocked store with something for every fan of comics, anime, and manga. I've shopped there several times and basically enjoy it. most of the younger workers there are pleasant and accommodating. Whenever I'm on that side of town, I make excuses to go there. Today I called to inquire to see if a graphic novel was in stock. The guy on the phone told me he didn't have "old stuff like that" ...when I'd purchased something like it from his store mere weeks ago. He told me to "come in and look for it" and we hung up. He'd been very brusque, and I hadn't felt good about the interaction, so I tried calling a few minutes later to say that I didn't feel valued as a customer, but I didn't get to complete my sentence. He told me he didn't have time for me and that "they were a busy comic shop on a Wednesday." Cool. I called Radar Toys and Nostalgia Collectibles and asked them for the same graphic novel. The first politely asked me to hold while they looked through their computer inventory, then apologized that they didn't have it. The second recognized the book and also apologized that he didn't have it. Y'know. Basic customer service stuff. A customer calls because they're hoping to make a purchase. If that's frustrated or met with indigence and condescension, why would they patronize your store? I don't like posting negative reviews, but I still feel gross about the interaction. I don't plan on returning to the store again anytime soon because of it. the other stores I mentioned have better prices, are closer to me, and have much better service. read more

If you love anything from DnD to Disney and in between! This place is a must see! There prices are very comparable to other places, trust me, I have a gaming family. The have tons of comics as well, anime, just everything! The store set up is done so nicely, clean and organized which is great for a place like this! My husband wandered in here by mistake recently, and ended up finding a great Simpsons shirt. Naturally, he decided that I needed to come and check out the store too. We went in a couple weeks ago and I was kind of amazed at the amount of product inside this store. It is really hard to walk around and actually find anything because it is almost overwhelming. There really is just too much stuff in here for me. If you've ever been to Hot Topic, you will have an idea of what I'm talking about when I say too much product. I was able to find Marvel beanie babies of my favorite Avengers heroes. So I was kind of excited, as I'm decorating my office right now with all my nerd related stuff. They definitely have that going for them! Plus my husband loved his shirt. Customer service was fine. We were left alone to wander the store, and that was perfect. We went back and forth a few times, as my husband and I separated and then wanted to show each other something. We were left to debate a couple of items to purchase before finally deciding on the beanie babies. We weren't really talked to until we went to cash out and pay for everything. When we did, the cashier was nice. Very timid and quiet, but she was friendly and there were no issues. Would I return? Maybe. I'm kind of torn on that one. I seriously do find this store overwhelming because there is so much stuff, but I did find some good stuff too. So yeah, I will probably come back, but only when I am looking for something specific. read more

Really wish I could give this place zero stars. I paid well over a hundred dollars for a single book at DragonVine, for a birthday gift for my daughter. When the book was unwrapped from the plastic shrink wrap packaging, we were pretty unhappy to find that the book's spine, edges and inside pages were all badly damaged. None of this was apparent in the store when we purchased the book because the thick plastic wrapping was wrinkled at all of the corners, masking the damage to the cover. The receipt clearly states "3 day refund/30 day exchange Receipt and tags required" so we went to exchange (not return for a refund, but exchange) for the other copy that was in stock when we purchased the book. We had both the receipt and the packaging, as well as the bag from the store, but were told by a rude little girl behind the counter that "there are no returns or exchanges on books, no exceptions". It was explained to this person behind the desk, that the book was damaged at the time of purchase, and that the damage was hidden behind the wrinkled plastic shrink wrapping. They were even shown this in the store, but still had the audacity to tell us that we should have looked the book over more closely, and that there was nothing more they could do... It was then explained to this snotty little girl that their so called "no book return" policy was nowhere to be seen on the receipt, or in store, nor was it explained to us when we handed over our hard earned cash the day before. We will be handling this through our credit card company as a chargeback which will do nothing but cost this nonsense business time and money in the long run, but we could care less at this point. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this store, and will let all of our local LC friends know about how we were treated. We will also be posting this review elsewhere, to help warn and hopefully deter others from giving these people their money. read more

It has a better and more diverse collection of merchandise across a wide range of genres than any other store in the area. Whether you're into science fiction, comics, anime, role-playing games, or Funko pops, they got you covered. The place is clean and well organized and the staff has always been friendly and helpful. Horrible customer service, guy in orange shirt kicked me and my daughter out because she knocked over framed posters that were improperly displayed precariously on a metal stick. A slight bump could knock the whole thing over. He said we aren't customers after I apologized as he walked over yelling at us to get out. He claimed we have been touching everything and knocking multiple things over all over the store. When I asked what we had been knocking over, because we havnt we were there to get gifts. He became belingerant and rude claiming he has cameras to prove we knocked a bunch of items over that never happened. Don't bring your kids in to this store. Unprofessional with the worst customer service. The woman working was very nice and knew it wasn't our fault. She should be put in charge. read more

I used to shop here all the time and always loved looking at the merchandise. I will never shop here again. The owner rudely kicked my friend out of the store without reason, insinuated her brother stole something (he didn't) and kicked him out, too. First, if you think someone's stealing, that's why there are police. Second, kicking someone out of your store just because you don't like what they have to say is poor business practice. (If I did that I'd never make any money.) Not going to lie, some of the other reviews on here around exactly like what we experienced. Sounds like a pattern of poor behavior to me. The owner of this store is very rude. He acts like he is doing you a favor. No, me supporting local business is doing you a favor. Remember that. The items in this store are over priced by 5 to 10 dollars compared to the same items online. I only shopped here to support the store even though it's way over priced. But not anymore, I guess I'll have to save money and have things shipped directly to my door. On Saturday around 2 I believe, I came into the store with my son and fiance to look for items to put in our home and for my son's 1st birthday. One employee looked at us and said nothing, the other one gave us the nastiest look as we walked around. No one asked if we needed help looking for anything. I posted this on their facebook and received nothing but rude comments and insults. On top of everything else, they also let their own employees review their business. If your looking for customer service, you might want to nerd out elsewhere. Would have given this place a 4 or 5 because it had cool stuff inside but the owner is a total a-hole. I am baffled. Initially I was going to keep this short and simple and stop above but I am beyond annoyed by how how the owner treated my father. My older dad was curious about the name of the store. He asked what "dragon vine" meant and was trying to recall the remainder of the sign outside. When he asked, the unprofessional wiener at the counter shot him a rude look and proceeded to talk down to my dad. There was no need for what I witness. My dad walked outside and looked at the sign and came back in and said, "it's says, 'we sell awesome,'" and the owner said "well good for you." BRO, MY DAD WAS TRYING TO MAKE A FRIENDLY CONVERSATION BECAUSE HE THOUGHT THE STORE WAS COOL. He can F right off. I hope this store goes out of business. read more

I was going to spare this business my review based on my return for peaceful resolution. Alas, it was not to be. I'll give them two-stars due to their stellar inventory, can't lie about that. I was a pretty regular and loyal patron of Dragonvine for about 3-4 years (since their move from the Gateway Mall). I have never been treated with aggression, hostility, or paranoia from any store I have ever shopped at. Besides this one. Customer service is not this business's strong suit (as can be seen by the large amount of poor reviews from Google, Yelp, and other review sites). After buying the same item 2 times over the period of approximately a month, I was attempting to buy a 3rd when it was taken out of my hands and I was told I could not buy the item. Being a respectful individual, I totally wanted to comply with their policy but had never been informed of it. After being told that I "farm the store", they stated they weren't sure they wanted my business anymore and were considering banning me from the specific type of item I typically come in for. I knew Dragonvine had a reputation based on the negative online feedback they receive, but I never thought I would have to deal with the aggression I had read about due to my previous compliance with any policy I had been informed of and my respectful engagement with the management. I returned a week later in an attempt to clear the air, reach an amicable conclusion, and wish them well. However, I was greeted with the statement "I don't really care what you have to say, we already said our peace" and a continued vilified persona of myself as a rotten customer. All I wanted was a civil conversation and a chance to make peace, but I am not really shocked based on the hostility I have seen from one of the owners in particular. (Soapbox: I was also informed on return that my interpretation of the policy was wrong and that they specifically didn't like people buying "higher value" items multiple times. Ok.....so I can buy 10 of an item that you don't believe at the time will make any money for me if I resell, but in a year if that changes...suddenly you'll scowl? Still confused and it's obvious they make their policies based on feelings as opposed to something measurable/objectively quantifiable. And still, just TELL me that and I'll never buy a duplicate item again!) This city isn't that large, and I won't be shocked the day this business is struggling to sustain itself because the ex-loyal patronage discourages their friends from going. I can't say I was ever banned from the location (something that many people have received based on stories I hear frequently in the community), but I can say that the owners meant to make me uncomfortable enough so that I wouldn't return. Have been in here a few times throughout the years. Came in today and had a few things picked out to get, bf wouldn't get them at the end. When we went to leave the front counter area, after saying sorry I wasn't purchasing these, the lady, ACTUALLY askede to out them back myself.... How many employees sit there and watch Netflix all day? This lady, herself, was sitting down on her phone. I know it's rude to pick stuff out and not buy it but people in customer service should NOT ask you do stuff for them. A nice varied store of various nerdy things. Do you like comics? They're here in both single issues and collected books. Like tabletop games and cards? They're here too. Like Japanese anime and manga? They're here too. While the store does feel a little cramped in some spots, everything is neatly organized. Most everything is located in their own dedicated part of the store. If --like me-- you are a fan of the Love Live and The Idolm@ster franchises, you'll be happy to know that Dragonvine has merchandise from both franchises in store. For Love Live, it's Myuu's stuff (no Aqours yet but I hope they expand soon), and for Idolm@ster it's Cinderella Girls stuff. It'd be cool if they had 765 Pro merchandise, but it's understandable why they don't. This is a nice store in Springfield that has a little bit of everything for nerds in the area. read more

Wow. What a rude bunch of people that work here! I called to ask to see if there was a certain comic in stock and the Lady who answered was so rude and snotty. I simply asked if she could please check to see a certain issue was there and she huffed and puffed saying I should just come in and look. Well I live 40 mins away! It's a simple question. Then when I asked who I was speaking to she said does not matter! I could not believe it! Who ever is the girl who is responsible for answering should be fired! I can't believe I stood behind this shop for as long as I did. I buy comics only. I had a substantial pull list set up that either was constantly either missing issues, or had extra issues not on my list thrown in. I generally ended up purchasing those extra issues as they were always friendly and help full. We cleared our pull folder out every week, or month if we didn't have time to make it in earlier. These were often $200.00 + purchases. We had also bought numerous single issues under $3.00 (which is where the problem starts). Now I don't know if they have always had a minimum credit purchase amount or if it was just selectively enforced. My wife went in tonight to again pick up a single issue and update my pull list as I had removed quite a few titles over the last few months and I wanted to start some new reading and catch up on some old. So comes the fun part of purchasing a single issue with our visa debit/credit. The comic costs. $2.99. The employee behind the counter starts in with immediate attitude about their minimum purchase required being $3.00. Now at some point a penny becomes more than just a penny. Having said that he offered to run the card at $3.00.. Thanks? When questioned about the "new" policy and if they're willing to lose a customer/sale over that said penny his answer was not only yes, but you're no longer allowed in here. Now comes the fun part. When questioning the actual owners about this policy and why the employee acted as he did I was told my wife was threatening and hostile and had crossed a line. This was taking place while she was on the phone with me. (I brought this up on their facebook page but my comment about that has seemingly disappeared.. hmmm) The best part is I'm told in their own words "that I am still permitted". DO you really think I'll be coming in to give YOU money? nope. It's also in very poor taste to delete and edit portions of conversations containing the truth about what happened. Folks, do yourself a favor. Drive 5 minutes south, get your comics for the same price with a bag and board. You don't have to worry about any new minimum purchase policies there either. read more

DragonVine recently relocated from it's Gateway Mall location to the Pioneer Parkway area. The store is super awesome and caters to many fandoms. A short and incomplete list of things you will find there: Doctor Who, Sanrio, Star Wars, Star Trek, Ghost Busters, and the Simpsons (again, this is an incomplete list. The store feels a teeny bit disorganized but that's really just because they really cater to a lot of different tastes so they have lots of inventory spread out throughout the store. Don't ever go here to buy comic books. Guy at the counter won't sell you more than 1 copy of any given book and changed the price of one at the counter! I tried to buy 2 copies of a comic that was $5.50 each. He would only sell me 1. Then when I came back the next day to buy my 1 copy, he took the price tag off and said it's now a $17 book and refused to even sell it to me because I was "in yesterday and bought one". Joke's on him though, I was in the week before and bought 6 copies from the girl behind the counter. She didn't care. Ha! What a clown. Avoid this place. I have never been treated so rudely in a comic shop before. The man at the register literally told me that I am not their "clientele." I left because I was shocked and upset by how abrasive and curt he was. Especially given the fact that I have indeed shopped there before making me exactly their clientele. On the way back to my car, I thought better of my decision and walked back to the store to file a complaint. This is when I decided that I needed to share what happened. He point blank told me that I wasn't going to make a complaint and threatened to call the cops on me for trespassing. He even personally insulted me (calling me a "lovely person" in a sarcastic tone to a customer) as I left. I guess he was right in the end. I am never going there again. read more

Owner is exceptionally unfriendly. I thought he was just a customer at first. I went in looking for pokemon cards. It was my first time in the store, and a kind woman working let me know that there wouldn't be another shipment for about a month. I understood since the hobby is so popular right now. Another gentalman in the store said there were no cards available in the entire county. I knew this was false, since I had recently been to stores, big box and locally owned, who had cards. I thought maybe this guy was also on the hunt so I told him a few places where I had found elite trainer boxes and booster packs. He just said "No, that's impossible." I thought that was strange, so I told him about another store I had been to that same morning and how I found booster packs there. He said, "No, I'm the owner here." I was floored. Why is the owner picking arguments with customers over the availability of pokemon cards? And why does he think a customer would lie to him? It was just the weirdest thing. I was looking forward to browsing the store since the seemed to have a lot of other interesting stuff, but the exchange here left a sour taste in my mouth. I was mistreated as a customer in the store, ignored by employees. They stared as I shopped, making me uncomfortable, and ignored me when I stood at the counter. I ended up placing my merchandise back on it's shelf and leaving without a purchase. There are other great shops I can buy from that will treat me respectfully. After my recent facebook review, I was mistreated by their page moderator and disrespected once again, implying I was dependent on my parents for income and "needed a bigger allowance." I will not visit again, and I will not let my friends visit again. Mistreatment is a common theme, even in reviews as old as 2 years, and I'm not ignoring a company that treats my community so poorly. read more

Went in wanting to get some toys. Saw the price went to the register to buy. Willing to pay the actual price listed. The old lady behind the counter said that the toys were no longer for sale. Even they were all still on display. Said that because of the star wars movie price has increased and that she had to reprice them all based on premium market conditions. I was so unhappy with my experience I left without making a purchase. I was met with nothing but pretentious comments and shitty attitudes, they acted like I was inconveniencing them by shopping in their store. They obviously care more about their online sales than about local patronage. I hope word of mouth spreads and they go out of business. I seriously love this place!!! I've found every new issue I needed. I just moved here and have been looking for good shop and I can proudly say that I've found my new favorite place. I bought the last Star Sapphire lantern power battery, I've been the happiest chick since I found this place. I encountered the treatment of another customer today that left a very bad taste in my mouth. The young man was polite and inquiring of a policy they have concerning not being able to buy more than one of certain items. The female manager was impolite, unprofessional and not able to keep her cool. If this is your policy, no problem, but treatment of customers is number one in retail. I would not return and spend more money here due to the lack of etiquette and disturbing attitude of the manager. If you can't be polite to your regular customer base, pretty soon you won't have one. Other than that, prices encountered were very high. I would buy elsewhere. They had one chance to impress me... oh, there it went. read more

I travel all over the world to comic book and pop culture events, and this is one of the cleanest, friendliest, and nicest shops I have ever been to, anywhere. Great selection of comics and toys and games, completely family friendly. Just an awesome, awesome store. read more

Greatest SCI-FI store in all of Pioneer Parkway!!

DragonVine has a good selection of a lot of different things. If you are looking for a certain category or genre of toys or comics, especially as a gift for another person, they'll probably have it there. That being said, I don't think they've ever had the specific items I was looking for. The store has lots of cool stuff, but I can usually go to their competitor and find a specific issue if that's what I'm after. This store is more for browsing. I would definitely come here if I was looking for anime items, however, because they seem to specialize in that where not many do. I used to come in for comics because they keep better hours than other comic shops around Eugene/Springfield. I stopped coming here for my comics because I am very picky about my issues. The comic sections in this store leave a lot to be desired. The issues usually aren't bagged and boarded and they get beat up pretty badly. If you're looking for an issue and it didn't come out in the last few days, it is probably going to be decently banged up. If you're picking up something that is weeks, months, or years old, be prepared for damage in proportion. I don't think the issue is that the customers are banging them up, I think there is not enough space on the racks and in the shelving for the comics they order. They end up not selling enough and they get destroyed being shoved into smaller spaces and moved around. This isn't uncommon with comics, but it can be irritating to deal with. The pricing is another reason I shop around and don't come into this store very often. Back issues are sometimes higher priced than one would expect. Other items in the store generally seem to be at least a few dollars above normal retail price. I'm not going to review on the drama surrounding this place other than to say that is well-known throughout Oregon geek circles because of whatever incidences and interactions have taken place. If that sort of thing concerns you, research it and shop accordingly. I don't think the owner has ever been there when I have come in, but I have never had any weird interactions there and have had a normal, fairly pleasant customer service experience each time with the employees that have been there (i.e. they didn't bother me, I didn't bother them, and we made unmemorable small talk while checking out). All that being said, DragonVine is definitely worth a look every once in a while. There's really no telling what you will find there and you might even find something you can't do without. read more

Concerning the Springfield location. I've been a fan of this store for several years. I've always loved the selection of novelty items and collectibles they have available. Perusing their store has always been a fun and positive experience. That is, until today. My children were in the store with their grandfather, browsing the usual interesting selection of gifts and trinkets. My daughter had a balance remaining on a gift card that I had given her for Christmas and was looking forward to spending the rest of it on a new anime figure. While my children were enjoying themselves and laughing about the unusual position of the teeth of a particular plush collectible, the gentleman running the cash register (and apparently the store), out of nowhere, very rudely and aggressively told my children to "Get out of the store now, or I'm calling the cops!" The children didn't even realize he was talking to them at first because they were doing nothing wrong. Apparently, said cashier thought that he had heard one of them cough and immediately went into a frenzy. My daughter was explaining to me how she felt threatened and scared. She's an 11-year-old girl, being threatened with police intervention for simply shopping in her favorite store and being wrongfully accused of a perfectly normal bodily function that can happen at any time for reason other than just being sick. The children, accompanied by their grandfather, vacated the store as demanded by the cashier, without causing any issues. I was soon after made aware of this occurrence, and took it upon myself to get into contact with a manager. Soon after making a phone call to the store in Lincoln City to inquire about obtaining the means to do so, I received a call from the manager of the Lincoln City locations. I had explained to her what had happened. She immediately got aggressive on the phone with me. She constantly interrupted me and would not let me finish a sentence. She was going off on me about how they take Covid seriously and how she has an employee that caught it and was speaking at me in a raised voice with a very rude and condescending tone. Mind you, my children and their grandfather were wearing masks and following all state Covid-related guidelines. I informed the Dragonvine manager of this fact, and she told me that "masks don't make a difference". I was pretty shocked that a manger of a store would say such a thing. I was equally shocked at the audacity of this manager to make my children out to be the aggressors in the situation, as if though they intentionally caused trouble by coughing in the store, which they did not. I asked her if it was their store's policy to threaten children who cough or clear their throats with police-aided removal, to which she replied "if the store employee feels endangered, he has a right to ask someone to leave the store". I reminded her that my children were never asked to leave the store, they were aggressively told to leave under threat of police intervention and that neither one of them actually coughed. I asked her if she condoned such actions by her employees. I could only get generic responses at that point and so chose to end the converstaion. I am absolutely disgusted by how Dragonvine allowed their customers to be treated today. Apparently, their management condones threatening an 11-year-old girl with use of police force if they dare to cough in one of their stores while wearing a mask. It's very unfortunate because, up until this point, my family and I really enjoyed shopping there. But I will not tolerate any customer, especially my children, being subject to such borderline abusive treatment by Dragonvine staff. My daughter, hours later, is still shaken up by the incident.
