This is the comic book shop that you see in your head when you think "Comics" A mix of latest release, toys, models, and boxes and boxes of old comics in their sleeves, resident in white boxes. Like a LOT of white comic boxes. Organization is not the prime directive here, but the selection, new/used/valuable is good and the staff is the right amount of nerdy knowledgeable with out being nerdy elitist - you know the type... "Oh, you just started collecting TMNT and don't know about Groo the Wanderer..." Prices are retail for new stuff. A sleeve and board will set you back $0.25. Collectables are priced in line with the Overstreet guide, but they can be a little optimistic on the grading, so margin hard. I have never sold any used comics to them (hoarder!) and I cannot speak to pricing there, but they are legit is every other aspect that I have dealt with this on. In short, this is where I buy my local comics for myself and as gifts. read more

It is subjective that I seldom find anything I want at Nostalgia Collectibles, you may want other things, but it is not so subjective that the owner has seemed so rude in 100% of my dealings with him. Thank goodness there are other places to buy comics in Eugene. read more

When I first moved to Oregon from Colorado I was 12 years old, and scared to be moving to a damp logging town in the center of a state I knew nothing about. The first week my family were there we explored some of downtown and eventually stumbled into the Smith Family Bookstore. Underneath this classic Eugene business was a hidden gem of misfit literary habits. Comics soon became a way for me to escape from the strangeness of this new place through characters strong than myself and with greater problems of their own. Years later, Nostalgia Collectables would where my Wednesday afternoons were spent, discussing the benefits of the bat cave, debating what super hero's where sexually perverted, and generally making fun of each others fascination with imaginary men and women gallivanting around in tight pants and masks. My name is Kellen Terrett, and I am a proud comic nerd. Nostalgia has a enormous back stock of comics in the store, as well as it's sister store Emerald City Comics. If there's something you're looking for but can't seem to find, they'll find it for you. The store is well laid out and it's very easy to find just about anything you're looking for. There's usually at least one person working there, and if they're busy all the people who are regulars there are more than willing to help you find something. People who are not part of the subgroup comic/graphic novel-reader are often intimidated to enter a store like Nostalgia. From the outside it looks just like any collectable store, filled with posters, busts of various characters, shelves of trades, and lots of toys. But upon entering Nostalgia you are overwhelmed by the history and detail this store has developed over the decades and cannot help but be impressed with all it has to offer. If you're a regular comic reader, the comics are separated by weeks, which is something I'm a fan of because it can become confusing to some people what is a new comic and what is a reprint. Often they'll put all the DC and Marvel books on a shelf by themselves, trades and other magazine on another, and young adult/kid books on the lowest shelf. I like this because you don't want your kid picking up Punisher Max when they're suppose to be grabbing Tiny Titans. If I had to make a criticism of Nostalgia it would have to be the organization of they're back stock. Over the years I've gotten use to the stacks of books layered high into the store. It's not a system of organization that you usually see in comic stores and I think it's a great way to manage space in such an odd location. The way they have it set up makes it hard to find what you're looking for if you're not interested in roleplaying Indian Jones. In the few years since comic books movies started making a splash the mainstream seemed to be taking notice of comics once more. I do not think that we'll ever see comic books like The Goon next to US Weekly in the supermarkets as was common in the comics boom on the 90's. But before I left I certainly saw more non comic readers entering Nostalgia Collectable's and slowing understanding that not all of us are like the comic nerd from The Simpson's. It is my hope that Nostalgia continues its many years of being the willamette valley's premiere comic book vender. If you live in Eugene, or are just passing through, stop in and spend a few buck on a comic or two and help support an amazing local business and a literary art form as unique as Eugene. read more

I have been a regular customer at Nostalgia for almost 20 years, and can tell you that I have NEVER experienced anything but outstanding customer service from Darrell (the owner) and his staff. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and more than willing to special order items if they don't have it in stock. One look at the walls in the shop can tell you everything you need to know about the quality of the store. Hundreds of silver age books, a multitude of toys, both for collectors and kids, and stacks upon stacks of comic books, graphic novels, and trade paperbacks. To say they are badly stocked is, with all due respect to the other reviewer, laughable. Not only do they have a VERY full stock of the current/recent comics, Darrell is widely known to be a purveyor of silver-age comic books, and the only person I've ever met who is selling an Action Comics #1. I think that tells you something about the breadth of their inventory. To put it another way, there isn't a better place to buy comic books and other collectibles in Oregon. It's absolutely, unquestionably one of the best comic book stores in the state (Things From Another World is a close second), and by FAR the best outside of Portland. I am not a regular of Nostalgia comics. Despite the fact that they offer just about everything that I like (DBZ figures, Star Trek and Star Wars stuff, LOTS of comics and games/collectibles) I just don't stop in very often. I have been off and on over the past 15 years and my experiences there are always different. Sometimes I am completely ignored while the employees have nerdy conversations instead of ringing up my selections and other times they are on the ball and help me find what I'm in there looking for. Nostalgia selection is very good. They have lots of comic boxes that you can reserve monthly or weekly comics for and get a small discount for. They do have sections of back issues and they reasonably priced. If I was looking for a neat collectible of some kind or wanted to get my hands on a particular series of comics, this would be a good place to start. Just don't take it personally if you are ignored so the employees can talk for 5-6 minutes about who would win between the Firelord and Firestorm. The other huge downer is the parking. It is located across from the post office in Eugene and the actual comic shop parking spot is sparse, requires you to drive in alleys with little space, and it is routinely full. The biggest reason I pass on going here is the location and the parking. If it were easier to get to and navigate, I would bump the review up to 4 stars no problem. read more

Went in the store to get bags and boards, neither of the employees knew when the format size changed, what year or what the cover price is when the actual size of the comic books change. I ended up getting to many bags and boards; maybe just as much my fault as the people who are supposed to have knowledge. The two employees, one male one female, were, the both of them, surly and distant/disinterested when asked any question. They have a bad attitude, I get better service shopping online, which is where I have to go to get supplies. Will never step foot in this shop again. I know my comic book stores, I was there on opening day in Berkeley, California for Comics & Comix, I know comic book stores and if anybody thinks this is any thing more than a glorified Barnes & Noble they need to get out more. The best Store in Eugene for Comics, and MtG cards! The staff is knowledgeable (just ask them), and the prices nearly always beat the online cost. I basically agree with all the positive reviews/ I just wanted to point out that they sell Magic booster packs cheaper than any place in town-- by almost a dollar. so Magic players.. check that shit out! only packs-- no singles. Oh it's also worth mentioning that they have packs from days of old, too. The prices vary depending on the set, but still it's awesome to go and be able to buy new packs of super old sets. read more

This store is awesome. I'm a Star Wars collector and i found quite a lot of cool stuff. I was like a kid meeting Santa for the first time! I was thrilled. But upon being the only person in the store for about the first 10 minutes and waiting to be helped, I realized the owner of the store must not need the money. He just sat there chatting it up with some guy. I figured it was a deal going down and I'd wait. But I waited and waited. 5 more people come in and he helps THEM! I was pissed and the owner began to realize it. I bought a few things only because I knew I wouldn't be able to find my item cheaper anywhere else (this store is CHEAP! Which was awesome). I don't know if the owner is going through something, not feeling well or if he just has that personality of an introverted zombie. Whatever the case, he ruined my "meeting Santa" level of excitement. Won't be back but glad for the stuff I found. read more

Nostalgia Collectibles is the Kind of Comic Book Shop you hope to find when you come into a town you've never been to, and it's the kind of shop you're lucky enough to have if you live in that town. great selection of just about everything. from new and old collectable toys, super hero comics, underground, golden and silver age, collectible cards, games you roll dice for, games like Magic, awesome selection of old pulps, and tons of other cool nerd collectable stuffs! everyone is friendly. whenever Im in Eugene it's always on the list of places I need to stop at. read more

Very nice looking store with lots of new inventory. But DO NOT buy or sell bronze/silver/golden age comics. The owner, Darrell Grimes, will start to hustle and low-ball you right-away. And don't take his advice on third party vendors. He's tight with PGX and there's an ocean of people who will not buy any comic slabbed by PGX - PGX has a reputation of upping their gradings values - which is why Grimes likes to sell them. In 2015 he pushed Emerald Valley Comic Fest hard, which he was tied to, over EUCON, saying EUCON had no vendors, no guests, and no chance - to avoid EUCON. As it turned out Emerald Valley was a disaster and EUCON a huge pleasent sucess. read more

This store has the best selection of comics in the Eugene/Springfield area. The owner (tall guy with glasses Darrell?) is about as friendly as wooden post though. I don't know if he has poor social skills or what but it doesn't create the best environment. This doesn't make me want to return to visit. The other gentleman who works there who is younger with dark hair is much more friendly. I prefer to go in to the place when he is there instead of the owner. read more

Unfriendly, patronizing, sometimes hostile customer service. I'm referring to the older gentlemen with buzz-cut and glasses at Nostalgia, and to a lesser degree the owner. My 10 year old son won't ask for help or ask questions there anymore because he is afraid of buzz-cut. They regularly miss issues in your pull list, and you have to hope there is still one on the shelf. Which defeats the whole purpose of a pull list. Emerald City Comics in Eugene is owned by the same man (who thankfully never stops by), and has much better customer service (We love you Carrie!!!), but the same problems with pull-lists. I've had boxes at both, which I closed because they regularly missed titles from my pretty small list (9-10 a month). I hate to say it, but if you are a regular comic book buyer in Eugene, you are better off ordering from online retailers that offer steep discounts and don't patronize their customers or make no effort to fulfill orders. At Nostalgia, you will miss issues and be talked down to. It's sad, because I would prefer to support local businesses, but after years of bad experiences, I threw in the towel on Nostalgia and Emerald City. Weekly trips to the comic store became a hassle that often ended in frustration and bewilderment that a retail business could care so little about their customers. Comics are a hobby, a fun frivolity for me. Shopping at Nostalgia took a lot of the fun out of it. read more

I want to like this store so bad. They have a great selection and it is big, open and bright. However, I have a huge problem with the rudeness and disinterest of the staff. Darrell, who owns the place, is a nice guy and has helped me out when asked. The other tall guy who works there has blantantly blown me off multiple times and seems to have no interest in helping customers. The week I moved to Eugene I was looking for a comic home and went to Nostalgia first. I was the only person in the store and the guy couldn't even be bothered to say hello. When I asked if he had a certain book in stock his answer was "A long time ago". No offer to order, no offer to check the other store. That was the only thing he said to me the entire visit. I have been back twice when he was working. Once he totally ignored me as I walked the entire store. The other time I had to walk up to him and ask him to help me and even then he hesitated from what he was doing, as if I was a bother. To add insult to injury they didn't even stock comics for free comic book day. Isn't that the point of FCBD? Don't you want to get people into the store? Nostalgia has great stock and is a beautiful store, but their customer service is literally the worst I have ever had in ANY comic store in my 30 years of collecting. read more
