This record store has such a great selection and friendly staff who are willing to answer questions and even search the net for answers if they didn't know. I had questions about my new record player and even though it was not a record question they did their best to help me solve my problem. That would be enough even if their store was not crammed pack with amazing finds and great quality but *bonus* It is! My husband and I go at least once a month to build our collection. We have to limit ourselves or we would go broke in a matter of days If you are looking for amazing vintage vinyl in Eugene then this is the place. read more

They have a lot of choices to pick from and all sorts of genres. If you are wanting to sell they also do that too.

Best CD/Vinyl/Tape shop in Eugene! They have every genre you can think of! I collect Hip Hop CDs and I was surprised to see how many they had! Sure they are a little bit pricey but I don't really mind. 5 Stars! read more

This has been a go to record store for me since i was a teenager decades ago. Now there are not as many records stores left but this one in Eugene remains a solid favorite. There is a good selection of new and used discs and records at reasonable prices. Well the used stuff is a good price, new vinyl of course is whatever the sticker price is and that is all over the place. I don't get to downtown Eugene as often as i would like but the times I get to do I always find something that i did not know I needed. So glad this place is still around. read more

House of Records - Music & DVDs Near Me - Eugene, Oregon

It is truly a house of records. Wall to Wall to Wall. A huge selection of records of all generes, including 45s. I like how the records are organized despite how crowded the space can get. I found a couple of LPs there that I didn't think I would ever find. Including an old record of kids songs I played to death 30 yrs ago. Worth a stop if you love albums. You could browse for hours. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of space but do your best. read more

What a charming and lovely record store which is housed in an old...house! They have a large vinyl selection with genres ranging from punk to jazz to ska to hip hop to soundtracks to indie etc They also have tapes, CDs, buttons, patches and more. Only complaint is that many of the records were filed sideways which made reading titles tricky, I like to be able to flip through record covers...but they're in a small house so makes sense why they have the records stacked the way they do to save space. Guy working was super nice and helped me find their well stocked (at least vs other record stores I've been to) Christmas vinyl section. They have a small parking lot out back which helps as parking in this part of town can be hard to come by. Would definitely come back and cannot recommend this place enough! read more

House of Records is a truly dangerous place because they have such excellent selection; I find myself putting records back, and limiting myself to only a couple at a time. This was my first experience in a record store, and the atmosphere and charm was memorable. The employee gave me a recommendation based on my purchases, and, sure enough, it appealed to my taste. I'm trying not to go back... but surely will before long ;) read more

Awesome selection and even more awesome people to help you. Brought my daughter in for the first time and she loved it. Thank you!

Accused my brother of sealing a CD I literally bought for him and handed to him in the store. Get a receipt or you'll be bothered by the people who work here. read more

Really fantastic selection - give yourself a bit of time to search and you'll find something great, there's not a bad time to be had here

An institution for ~50 years? If you care about music, this is the kind of place to go to get it. Stop reading reviews and GO.

It's been awhile since I've been here (visiting from California) so I don't remember the exact details of the shop, but I freaking love this place! Great vibe, great prices, very friendly! read more

This place is awesome on many levels: -Unique, well stocked selection of CD's, LP's and music memorabilia. -Crazy knowledgeable owner/manger dude. Thanks for low down on Bobby Womack albums and versions of "Across 110th Street". -Legit local business that is a solid stop for any music lover. -Katy D. is right on with her description of the place, House of Records indeed read more

Arrived in Eugene as a halfway point on our road trip home and found this place just a few blocks away from our hotel. And what a find it was! Incredible selection of quality records at more-than-fair prices. Very impressive collection and a very friendly store employee who showed me where the jazz and rock sections were located in the store. Ended up walking out one hour later with six LPs. Great store! read more

My favorite part of going to record shops is perusing the used areas, then trying to remember whether or not I have an album already, or what band I was thinking about wanting to start collecting. Well, I feel like I always come away satisfied leaving House of Records, I always seem to find something that I can check off the never ending collection list. read more

I loved me some Record Garden, but House O' Rekkids is just incredible. You can spend hours just looking at records. You will pay a bit more, but you're supporting one of the only remaining bastians of authentic Eugenia by spending money there. I have two favorite places: HOR and Antrican... If HOR closes, I'm going to be a mess for EVER. read more

House of Records is a very good music store. Good selection and prices on new and used material and, importantly, is very well organized. This is not just a solid record/cd shop for Eugene but would be fantastic in any city. I grew up in Los Angeles and spent many days hunting for records in some of the very best record stores (big and small). House of Records stacks up. Several other great local places in the neighborhood as well. read more

Many years ago I would have considered myself a philistine when it came to music. That was before I went into THEE House of Records, can became a true believer in the power of music. It became a ritual for me to save up $100, walk to the HoR and go to the counter and just say "tell me what to buy". Never have I been disappointed by any suggestion ANY of the wonderful employees have suggested. My massive music collection consists of almost exclusive purchases from HoR. Sometimes I would see a album somewhere else, and then go to HoR the next day to pick it up. A memorable story I'd like to share about HoR. I worked at another local restaurant in Eugene. They'd would call us up at night and come pick up some food. We'd give them a great deal, and the next day I'd head over to HoR and ask them how the food was, and chat about music. More often than not I'd get some awesome mystery shwag in my bag after my purchases. I never expected it, but it was like christmas discovering what treasures they'd given me. If you're into vinyl, HoR is the real deal. I had to stop myself from exploring the back half of the store on most visits, as to prevent myself from drooling. I'd also like to say thank you to everyone who works, or has ever worked, at House of Records. I am a much cooler person because of the many suggestions that were openly given. Thank you all. read more

There are few truly independent record stores left. For that reason alone, House of Records and its brethren deserve five stars for keeping a vital and endangered tradition alive. But while I love its location and spirit, I would be less than honest if I didn't confess to a bit of disappointment with the depth of the catalog represented in the bins. Perhaps I came on a bad day. Or maybe it's been hit by the widespread industry malaise that you can't stock what customers won't buy. But whereas in years past you could troll the aisles for obscure titles and imports unavailable elsewhere, the limited new discs could be had in other retailers and the used inventory left much to be desired. (NOTE: If you have the cash, they have some mighty box sets!) The store's true strength lies in vinyl and the knowledge of the staff. Anything can be ordered online these days. But where can you go to actually talk music? I used to work at Tower Records and Wherehouse when what you knew mattered. Trips to Moby Disc, Pooh Bahs and Penny Lane were voyages of discovery. You would go with whatever dough you could scrounge up and spend it on the most interesting titles you could find. A bit treasure hunt, a bit wild goose chase, the joy was in the pursuit. That's how I found the Verve and Snow Patrol. That's even how I found my wife -- she was the girl responsible for spinning U2, my favorite band. Our pasts are woven through music. For those of a certain age, the days of independent music and bookstores shine with the lore of Camelot. Though far from perfect, they represented a time and space when our arts felt less like industries and more like forms of rebellious expression. House of Records still stands from that time and place. You can feel the presence of a bygone era in the walls and in the rafters. But like in my revue of Rasputin Records in San Francisco, what I'm left with is a bittersweet symphony of nostalgia for what was once and now is lost. I won't go all curmudgeon and bemoan the fact that time moves on. I'm grateful for what is and hopeful that the internet and other means and methods will spawn a new tradition with tomorrow's great artists. But for now we're caught in the spaces in between. God bless House of Records for keeping the light of independence burning and providing us a home to return to. read more

It's funny when I hear people say that record stores have all died because it is so not the case and a place like House of Records is clear proof. If anything, they seem busier than ever when I stop in, which is great to see. If you are looking for a good selection of new and used vinyl (and CDs and cassettes), friendly and helpful staff, good prices and just a cool environment with lots of history, the House of Records cannot be beat. The quality of the vinyl is also top-notch. They must be really picky when they buy LPs because the ones I find here are super clean. They don't have sales but it is because their regular prices are lower than other record shops in town. Plus, they have a frequent buyer program which makes it even more affordable if you buy lots of records. I am a metal guy and, frankly, their metal selection is probably their weakest point but I still manage to find cool stuff here on a fairly regular basis. And for all my non-metal needs, it is just awesome. Rock, jazz, soundtracks, new age, disco... pretty much anything you want. Good location and free parking in the back. I have been shopping here since the early 80s and, if anything, it is even better now than back then. read more

One of the ONLY reasons for a trip to Eugene. I LOVE this place. Records, Records, Records. Tons of punk stuff to sift through along with everything else. And they have a frequent buyer card... spend 100$ get 10$ off.. SO EASY TO DO.. Just ask them about it. My husband knows that the perfect celebration or date begins with House of Records. :) xo read more

This place has the best record room! I spent hours browsing the tall shelves. Like the name states, it's set in a house and it has the most perfect vintage-y, record-y smell. Great staff and excellent tunes. Yeah. read more

Totes old school indie record store. Tons of category slats, lots of good and obscure records, great place to hunt for stuff. A lot of material is miscategorized, punk CDs in the Jazz section, records misalphebetized, but that just makes the hunting more fun. Music nerds rejoice! read more

REALLY love H.O.R.! Terrific selection of everything fom casual to weird, friendly caz staff. Tough to find old records anymore, and they have them in spades! read more

I'm a huuuuge fan of House of Records- great service, awesome selection of new and used records and the Frequent Buyer Card make it the spot to go! One of my favorite record stores on the West Coast. Great selection of cassettes and vinyl. Tons of punk and metal to sift through. Sometimes it's all modern reissues and then sometimes it's all OG material. You'll never know what you'll find here, but you'll all leave with something! read more

Record heaven, man. This is one of my first stops every time I come down to Eugene and I always raid their punk section for a couple good selections. They've got so much to choose from that you could spend hours getting lost in there trying to find a rare vinyl that's difficult to find anywhere else. They play some weird music in there though...every time I go in it's something more bizarre than the last. Guess that's all part of the fun. read more

I loved the atmosphere of the place. It felt like a mix between a store, a museum and a friend's place to chill. I loved the wooden floors that sometimes vibrated when the bass was low enough on the in-store music. The store has a nice mix of CDs, cassettes and of course, records. For such a small house, it was packed with music from all sorts of genres from rock/pop to Tibetan monk choirs. My only criticism is that I wish the jazz CD section was just a little bit bigger. Regardless, it's a place I liked and will visit again. read more

I always try to head into record stores when I am in a college town and I was glad I headed here while I was in Eugene. They have a good selection of new and used records and their staff was really knowledgeable and helpful without being stereotypical music/vinyl snobs. Be prepared to spend a good amount of time here if you want to cruise the rock and jazz sections. Also, these sections are set up like bookshelves so the fun of crate digging is taken away and if you're tall or have a bad back those lower shelves are hard to peruse. Pro-tip: there's parking in back! read more

Easily the best place to buy records in Eugene. I've only been in here a few times but looking through the shelves I have seen a lot of great finds, and I remind myself to come back and purchase. If I could I would drop hundreds of dollars in this place weekly. Friendly, helpful staff will order things for you if possible. Prices are very reasonable and the selection of new, just released vinyl is really good. read more

No competition. Best in town, hands down. A punch card you don't even have to remember? AND it saves you $10 each $100 you buy? Awesome. Yeah that may sound like a lot, but it pays of for loyal, long term customers. Plus it's a great surprise to walk in and find out you get a free record. read more

How can you go wrong with an old victorian transformed into a record shop? Filled with vinyl, CD's and cassettes, all meticulously organized and sorted, easy to browse for gems or find something specific. I could've spent hours here, but due to time constraints and visiting from SF, only had time for a quick stop. Rest assured, I will make a special stop in Eugene to give House of Records its due. read more

Business names are often misleading--have you ever been in a waffle/hot cake house that was in an actual house? perhaps not. Contrary to title, this event is pretty rare. If you visit The House of Records, you will find yourself in an actual house. How novel! A house with hardwood floors, records lining the walls, and with occupants who happen to be genuine and friendly employees. You will soon forget that record stores are places of music and personal judgment. They love to talk music, and once they find out your interests, they happily make recommendations and provide random trivia. These people know their stuff, from experimental to classical to folk to obscure jazz. Want to hear a record/cd before you buy it? Done with no complaints. House of Records also carries new and used cds and tapes, and by carry I mean they have more than just one album by one artist. For example, Jackpot has a diverse selection of artists, but they often only have one album per artist. Most of the customers are local regulars from djs to collectors to casual listeners. People come here to hang out, talk, listen, and maybe even eat. Who's more obscure? Who's a hipster? Who cares? House of Records doesn't, and I love them for it. read more

the House of Records rates top notch. Fred and the gang go the extra mile and the inventory is all there. Walking into the HOR is like a time warp - when record stores were exciting, friendly and hip,. read more

There is definitely a reason this place wins Best Music Store all the damn time. The selection rules, the staff rules, the prices rule, the location rules. This is a good place to get concert info, too. read more

I'm so glad this store is still there... most music stores like this closed and House of Records still rocks it! Records, tapes , CD's, music I never heard of anywhere else. Fun selection for shopping for gifts. Some of the workers there have a bad attitude for some reason, but that's always how it was even twenty years ago and it was still one of my favorite places for music anyway. I just shrug it off, maybe sometimes poke fun a little to lighten their mood. Maybe there is a rude boss or something. read more

Nice local record shop with a good selection. The staff are generally kind, and the decor is perfect for a record shop. However, every time I've gone they haven't had what I was looking for, or if they did, it was waaayyy over-priced. Not the best record store ever but most definitely the best record store in Eugene. This store is nifty and very house-like. Let's face it, there aren't very many actual record stores left. I applaud this place for not just stocking their store full of collector junk. Go here if you actually like music and aren't afraid of records that will never be in the top 20. read more
