I visited Tennessee a couple weeks ago and was blown away by this place. I came across it by mistake but wow. The service was incredible, the whole staff was so attentive to my shrimp allergy. The restaurant tried to pack a lot of different things into their dishes which is great, but maybe a simpler approach would be better. For the price of the entrees, I think the portion size was ok, especially because it is in downtown Nashville. The atmosphere was very nice with a great street view. The noise level was a little loud and at times it was a struggle to have a conversation. The complementary valet parking is a nice feature. Loved etch!! From the moment we got there, we were made to feel genuinely welcome. Cocktails were wonderful, roasted cauliflower appetizer was the perfect way to start. She ordered the scallops, which were amazing, and I opted for the lamb meatballs, equally delicious. All were well prepared, plated, and served with great attention to detail. We were truly stuffed, not planning on dessert, but once we checked out the ice cream sundae, well... Our reservation time was kind of funky, so we sat in the bar, which was a nice experience. The bartender was also our server, and he was most congenial. We don't get to Nashville all that often, but next time we do, we will absolutely return here. This is my second time at Etch and my first time at the chef's counter. This was my birthday request and it exceeded my expectations. The service was impeccable and also warm and charming. Brooke took such good care of us. At the chef's counter you have the privilege of seeing all the food and can ask questions. I was enthralled with the cookbooks on the baker's rack/ shelves which I am sure offer some inspiration and even some fun/humor. The food was delectable and well balanced. We started with the roasted cauliflower and rolls with scallion butter. The salmon dish was the best I have eaten in several years and I eat good, clean salmon often. Hubs enjoyed chef's special- short ribs. We enjoyed the apple sesame tart for dessert along with a birthday toast. I was in Nashville on a last minute solo vacation cuz I really needed it. It was my first time to Nashville and Etch was highly recommended so I tried to make a reservation but all the dinner spots were booked so I made a lunch reservation. On the morning of my lunch reservation I had something come up for work I needed to take care of so I called them to see if I could push my reservation by half and hour and she was very nice and changed it. It was a 5 min walk from my hotel and easy to find. Later I saw people had parked on the street right outside so that was good to know. My server was friendly and explained each item I had a question on. I ordered: Tempura oyster mushroom as my appetizer. Since I was eating by myself my server asked for half portion and it still came out a nice size! And it was sooo good I wished I had the full size portion. I loved Everything about it and it came with two sauces. One I really liked but can't recall the name. The other sauce was good. Writing about it now I wish I could have more of this appetizer! If I hadn't had a breakfast that morning I would've order another round (full portion) of this to my meal. Argentinian Beef Tenderloin. My server said how the chef recommended the beef cooked so I said let's go with that. Later someone came by to ask how I liked the meat, I said it's great thank you. It's silly I know but that person asked about the meat but not my dish. I didn't like the sauce or the flavor on the veggies. But the potato were good. So I ate all the meat and some of the potato but left the rest. I normally really like veggies but that's ok. I guess that flavor was just not for me. For desert I ordered the olive oil almond cake that comes with green tea ice cream. I love green tea ice cream and I was not disappointed. I was afraid the ice cream would come out half melted but it was solid when I got it, so I was pleased. The almond cake was so good and paring it with the green tea ice cream, wow. I went here for a business dinner solo and made reservations just to be on the safe side, as I went here on Friday 6pm which is prime time. It was fairly busy and traffic was horrible in this stretch of downtown as it is close to 5th+Broadway, but fortunately, they have a dedicated free valet parking service so that you don't need to stress out finding free / cheap parking nearby! As I had reservations, they sat me at a two-top table away from the hustle and bustle of the bar, which I appreciated after a long day of work. I got the Proceed with Caution cocktail to start, which was quite strong but fruity and delicious. Strong enough that I took my time to enjoy my meal to sober up before driving just to be safe, but certainly not strong enough that you will be done for the night. Then, I got the steak carpaccio and roasted cauliflower which is a fairly popular dish. The steak carpaccio is excellent - the beef texture is tender and thinly sliced, with relish that is strong but not overpowering the taste of the beef itself. The roasted cauliflower had 2 sauces so that you won't view the dish as one dimensional. The truffled pea puree is slightly sweet and very flavorful, while the feta cream evokes a creamy flavor. Even the cauliflower itself, eaten alone, is well seasoned. For dessert, I got the olive oil almond cake. It was a slight miss that there was not that much almond in the dish, but the cake itself is fairly light surprisingly and not too sweet, my favorite level of sweetness. It comes with yuzu sauce and matcha ice cream, both of which are two of my favorite flavors. Yuzu sauce was a bit tangy which contrasts with the sweetness of the cake. The matcha ice cream is smooth and packed with flavor as well. Service is great as the server is very patient and very knowledgeable - for example, while he commented that he would like me to order the food all at once so that we can prepare efficiently, he also was okay with me sitting for 5-10 minutes to contemplate if I wanted dessert (and he jokingly gave me the dessert menu to tempt me, successfully!). He is friendly and approachable, and quick to deliver any requests I had. At the end of the meal, the hostess stamped my valet parking ticket and commented that the server told her I was the server's favorite guest of the night, and I felt very honored. It might be because of my quirkiness or maybe I just splurged a bit, but either way, it felt great. This is one of the better restaurants I have been to in Nashville, but note that it is quite a splurge - it was about $75 after tax and tip, but the amount may be slightly less per person if you have a larger party to split several dishes. Regardless, I have zero regrets dining alone but would still love to come back and try more of the other dishes. read more

Came here with two others for a dinner, made a reservation beforehand, had free valet parking. Ordered the recommended dishes: - roasted cauliflower to share: tasty, liked the sauce, well cooked, flavorful. - octopus and shrimp bruschetta: soft bread, good amount of octopus and shrimp, flavorful - scallops to share: thought the scallop was undercooked so asked for another one, it was the same. I guess the scallops there are just like that? Not very flavorful, rest of the dish was alright. - from the sea mahi: too sweet for me, mahi was fine, not amazing. Beignet was interesting, enjoyed it. - neapolitan mousse bar: small, not too sweet, liked the brownie and crunch - pear hazelnut tart: interesting combination, liked the goat cheese ice cream, not too sweet. Extremely expensive dinner for just okay quality. For high-end food in Nashville, I'd much more recommend Urban Grub or Audrey, wouldn't recommend this spot. read more

I had dinner at Etch on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 8:30 pm. This updated review is based on my second dining experience about 2 years after my first one. Needless to say, Etch still delivered in exemplary service and great tasting foods. The only difference was the ambience. The dining room was busier and louder as there were more tables seated compared to peak COVID times when restaurants were enforcing social distancing. Even though I missed the quiet atmosphere of a half filled restaurant, I still had a pleasant experience. Although Etch's menu changes frequently, I thought it would still be worth sharing my thoughts on the food. For appetizers, I had the mussels, octopus and shrimp bruschetta, and roasted cauliflowers. The mussels tasted fresh and that cream broth was so well-balanced in flavor, I wish I had more of the crostini to soak it in. It really was a perfect bite each time. The bruschetta was excellent - octopus had the perfect texture. The pea purée in the roasted cauliflower had a nice kick to it, and made a good shareable starter. For entrees, I had the Moroccan bastilla, filet, and pork chop. The bastilla featured exotic flavors with Mediterranean influences. I thought the bastilla itself was quite rich from the ricotta and butternut squash, but it was balanced from the fennel orange pesto. The filet and pork chop were two classic dishes; nothing much to say about them except they were cooked perfectly. I was a little disappointed that the pork chops were served with two baked potatoes instead of mash potatoes, which was inaccurate. Service was good from the valet, host, to the server. Food did take a little while to come out, but when it did, the dishes came out at the same time and it was worth the wait. Server was friendly and attentive. Overall, it's pricey, but I think it's worth it if you're celebrating a nice occasion like an anniversary or a birthday, or even impressing a date. I came to celebrate a birthday and they even wrote a nice birthday card. It's evident Etch put in a lot of detail when conceptualizing each dish and overall menu so that the flavors are harmonious. read more

In town for meetings and was able to slip away to test out Etch. Great location, host off the zanyness of Broadway and close to the Hilton and Halloween Fame. A sophisticated yet comfortable vibe sets the tone for great cocktails and highly tasty fares. The affordable craft cocktails are a pleasant way to start your experienc, along with their roasted Cauliflower. One might think that it would be a simple dish, but they would be wrong. While the star is the way the vegetable is prepared, its the accompaniments that make it rally shine. Don't miss this. For the entree we split the incredible Argentinian Tenderloin. Served perfectly pink, thus delightful dish has the meat presented above a bed of fried potato salad, topped with fresh zucchini and Micro greens surrounded by incredible dashes or red and green sauces. I'd love to have a bottle of each for home! While there is not a free bread option, they have a nice side of 'toast' a fresh foccacia and seasoned olive oil that fills out any meal. Phenomenal restaurant for a date night! Etch also offers complimentary valet parking, so no worries about finding parking on a Friday or weekend night. The interior is very pretty. We let the hostess know that we made reservations and I thought it was a little weird that she asked us to wait to be seated instead of showing us to our table. She asked guests who walked in behind us how many people were in their party and directed them to the bar to wait for their whole party. When they were settled at the bar, that's when she took us to our table. Strange, but nothing awful. We ordered the octopus salad bruschetta, which was dressed nicely, had great textures all-around with a nice red pepper sauce and was a nice segway to our entree. Our entree was the pork chop which could've had more sear, but it was flavorful. I thought it was a tad salty, but my husband liked it. The brussels sprouts side was exceptionally flavorful, packed with umai flavors from the Asian-inspired sesame crema! It was so addicting and delicious. I highly recommend. The potato salad side was surprisingly crispy from the fried potatoes and had overall flavors of horseradish from the mustard, but was not too impressive. The menu's pricing was also very fair and we left quite full. Our server, Jordan, was also exceptional. Very transparent with the menu and provided excellent recommendations. I spotted etch and was like , "I need to see what this is all about!" My last night in Nashville, I decided to come here to grab a cocktail. The smoked old fashioned was amazing! I really enjoyed it. I planned to just have a drink but the longer I sat, I grew hungry. I wasn't extremely hungry so I ended with a charcuterie board. It was yummy & HUGE, so well worth the price point. I literally could have shared with 2 other people. It was just me ..... I put a nice dent in it but certainly could not eat it all. Oooooh but I tried!!! The bar area felt a little tight at times but I was comfortable. It was crowded during my visit though. The vibe here is very relaxing and seems to be a great spot just to grab a drink with friends or share a meal. I think it had a sexy feel to it as well for date night! Sorry, I have stop visiting your restaurant, for serval reasons, 1. Your appetizer portions have shrunk in size but still priced the same. Greedy! 2. You do not celebrate guest's birthdays in a proper manner, even when guests' area spending +$500 and not even a small desert (also shrunk ) is offered. shrunk 3. Bartenders are not attentive, I guess they are just worried that someone will not tip them. I Just worried that you are not compensating them correctly, and it shows! Again Greedy! 4. I have voiced my dis-satisfaction on reviews, as well as not to recommend your restaurant to my friend circle. About the only thing going for you is the complementary parking, where I've had happily tip the attendant. But even this you probably will not offer for long the reason is that you are Greedy!!! 2.5 stars. Sigh. So disappointing. Someone recommended Etch for a fancy night out. I made reservations, and the host staff when we arrived was wonderful. Everything about the aesthetic seemed classy. Things became 3-star quality once my friend and I sat down. Actually I debated giving 2-stars overall, but the place really is adorable. Our waiter seemed relatively new, stumbling his way through the menu and giving no helpful recommendations. I got the Playing With Fire cocktail because it was spicy. Flavor was okay. All the dishes we ordered looked phenomenal. Lots of things wrong when we dug in. My favorite dish (and perhaps the only one I liked) was the Monkfish Tart. Super unexpected. Tasted like a flaky samosa filled with curry. It probably would have gotten too soggy if we waited, so eat this right away. Okay, what else? The Brussel Sprouts (with chili sauce and sesame crema) were somehow soupy. I was excited about the Octopus and Shrimp Bruschetta, which was beautiful and generously adorned, but the bread was too tough, the seafood was too slimy, and the whole dish was too salty... which I never realized I'd say about a dish. And lastly for the Grilled Pork Chop, the pork chop itself was good, but the smashed potatoes weren't even salted. Gross. That's probably the simplest way I could construct my thoughts about the food. I'm really hoping that one day someone will invite me back, pay for my meal, and change my mind... that somehow Etch was having its worst day in history. Make a reservation! We made a reservation for Friday the night before and the 8:30PM time slot was the earliest we could get. For the price point, I was a little disappointed by the food. We ordered the steak filet, pork chop, roasted cauliflower, and brussel sprouts. The filet was a solid 5/10. It was lacking flavor & not worth the price of $50. Roasted cauliflower was good, but didn't wow me like other reviews had stated. The pork chops and Brussels sprouts were delicious and I'd recommend those! Pork chops were super tender. Service was great and our server was extremely knowledgeable. My friend has a gluten allergy and he was well versed in cross contamination & which items had wheat in it. However, it took extremely long to get any of our food. We were starving in between our appetizer and main course. First Impressions!?!? When a restaurant of this caliber advertises a Happy Hour before a fine dining experience, there should be someone to acknowledge you when you come in. Then when you find your way to the bar by yourself there should be a bartender, or someone. I had to go ask for the manager. He finally came out, tossed us a menu, and turned away when we were asking a question about a drink. Thankfully the manager did his best to help get our evening back on track and Lisa our server and the food were amazing. However, it could have been great, but our experience was disappointingly dulled by the front of the house, a very important part of the dining experience, and our first impression. We recently came back again for lunch instead of dinner and had an awesome experience! As always, incredible atmosphere and service. They were especially careful about food allergies, which we appreciated as my partner is pretty allergic to tree nuts. We started with the empanadas, which had an incredible pineapple salsa. We then ordered the Spanish beef tenderloin and Korean fried chicken sandwich to share, and they even split up each entree into two separate portions for us beforehand without us asking. Both dishes were delicious, especially the Spanish beef tenderloin; the beef was cooked perfectly and the other ingredients in the dish complimented each other so well. The meatballs weren't dry at all. -Etch salad: YUM!!!! We asked the waiter to split one salad up into 2 plates. They did not skimp on the blue cheese and I LOVED it. -Spanish Beef Tenderloin: A miss. The sauce was not good and did not pair well with the meat, which in itself was quite boring and dull. -Chicken & Malfatti: Good, but not mind blowing. Definitely can't go wrong with cheesy dumplings: the malfatti was delicious. However, the chicken and sauce resembled your average chicken parm. Not a bad dish by any means, just not the wow factor I was going for. -Neapolitan Mousse Bar: This is a pretty run of the mill, dependable dessert! I'm a chocolate lover so I liked it; again, not mind blowing but I would definitely have it again. -Eggnog Sundae: Woah!! The gingerbread blondie and cookie paired SO well with this fascinating ice cream flavor. Such a good idea. Only note is we wished the pecans were more pralined. I would come again, maybe for dinner though! If you're coming for lunch, skip the entrees and get a bunch of apps and desserts to share. We go to a lot of nice restaurants to eat and I think this one was our biggest let down. First, roads were blocked off (we are from out of town) so found a nearby garage for $52. Then when we finally got to the restaurant, we found they offered valet parking. We ordered an appetizer and three meals and none of them had any wow factor. Two of the dishes seemed to have a lot of Indian-type spices, which I don't mind when we eat Indian food. The best thing we had was the dessert. We ordered the salmon (by the sea or something like that), the chicken, and shrimp. Our waitress seemed extremely rushed when speaking to us but spent time with other tables. Just overall a very very bland experience and every other place we ate over a 3-day weekend was fantastic. We couldn't wait to hit the door and go get some ice cream after. read more

The server gave us great recommendations and shared with us his deep knowledge of the menu as well as his personal favorites. Being from up north I couldn't help but be impressed with his southern hospitality. I asked my dinner companion who lives in Nashville, "Is everyone this nice down here?". He made us feel at home and his honored guests. The prices were in good range for this type of dining experience and I happily give it a 5-star rating on price, which is unusual for our DKW reviews. While you could order the chef's creation for market price, The apps hover around $15 on average, salads at $25ish, and entrees at $30-$50. And About the food.
