We made a reservation for my friends bday lunch because we read the positive reviews and decided to give it a try as we were visiting Nashville. We orderered the VEGGIE RISOTTO BOWL & MEDITERRANEAN SALAD with fish (I believe this is what my friend ordered). We were both very happy with our meal, it was delicious and filling. The service was incredible, our server was very patient and knowledgeable about the food at this restaurant, and gave us great recommendations. And overall, the ambience was perfect, quiet and pleasant for a small bday lunch. Oh one more thing, the cocktail we ordered was fantastic! I can't remember what we ordered (possibly had pomegranate or grapefruit) but our server recommended this based on our likes, and we loved it! I was looking to stray from the commercial downtown restaurants and found this one on a whim - it's located on an in between street just a few blocks off broadway. They were super accommodating and squeezed me in to sit at the chefs counter with almost no notice. I LOVED sitting front row to the open kitchen and the fact I was eating solo, it was perfect. The staff is fantastic and they hold the bar high for great service. I started with the bread and a half order of the roasted cauliflower. The butter for the bread is infused with some sort of herb or seasoning that gave it almost a cheesy flavor. The roasted cauliflower had so many different flavors and the display was beautiful with bright colors and so many parts to it. The ancient grain bowl was my meal and it was plenty! It was so delicious. Filling yet light and not heavy. For dessert I was recommend a dairy free coconut ice cream and the waitress was spot on by describing it as an almond joy. Crunchy toasted almond flakes were underneath the ice cream and it was perfect. I've already recommended this place - it was fantastic. read more

This place is heads above any other new American restaurant I have been to. There's so many unique things about this place that I absolutely loved. First of all we very easily got seats at the counter. You're able to look directly into the kitchen. This isn't just "oh we're going to let you look over one part of the restaurant". You can see everything here. You can see where the servers pick up food and punch in the POS. You can see the full kitchen and every station. You can even see the garde manger station where they make the salads. The dish pit is even somewhat open that you can get a glimpse into. If you've never worked in a kitchen this is such the perfect place to see how one operates. I can't say enough about the food here. Prices seemed pretty high to me for the dishes that were on the menu but I tell you it's an amazing value. The portions are generous and there are a lot of different components to each dish. Here is the really really cool thing I enjoyed about this place. There is so much on the plate and a generous portion of each that you can combine on your fork all the components in a way that every single bite is different. Almost like your own 20 course tasting menu or however many bites it takes you to finish it. Every single bite can be unique and that was what made this an adventure beyond most dining experiences. We tried quite a few things here but I just really love my entree the venison. It could not possibly have been more perfectly cooked. There was a black olive tapenade and if you aren't a black olive fan because of the commercial from a jar olives pizza places use you have to try a better quality black olive. The filo itself was one of the best I've ever had and the seasonal chutney on top was just amazing. There was a pomegranate black walnut sauce too that just added to the different bites you can create. Only hiccup was my wife's lamb dish. She ordered it medium and it came out undercooked. We let the server know and she said medium meant medium at the bone. Yes I can agree but that means the center would be maybe medium rare, but this was completely raw at the center still. So the server took it back and the kitchen cooked it a little longer and it then came back perfect. We also expected to see the chef here on a Saturday night but sadly she was not present. Just having arrived in Nashville, we were looking for a restaurant which would be somewhat quieter. Hard to find in this section of Nashville. We had checked to see if a table might be available on-line, but they were completely booked. But we stopped in anyway to see if maybe there were any cancellations. No luck, but they did offer us seating at their communal table at the bar. We grabbed two seats. We ordered starters and our main course. The food was quite good as was the service. As we looked around, we remembered that we had actually been to this restaurant with a former work colleague and her husband a few years back. Quite the coincidence that we stumbled back onto this place. We were joined at our communal table by a couple of Canadians who were in the process of emigrating to Mexico. Came here for our only fancy and last dinner in Nashville. Heard amazing reviews. We had to order EVERYTHING, and we're very surprised as to what we loved more than what we thought we would. Each dish was flavorful with different herbs and spices... first time, I think I have truly been able to distinguish flavors like that in a meal. The food below, without any alcoholic beverages, was more than $90 including tax and tip. Mostly delicious food, but not sure if I would have been pleased if I had to foot the whole bill. Thank you, boss, for covering a portion. Food: Ranked in order of deliciousness 1. Octopus and shrimp bruschetta: To me, bruschetta is a toasted piece of bread with some herbed chopped tomatoes. I don't know at what point the restaurant industry decided that the tomato was the least important part of the bruschetta, but I definitely approve! Tender octopus and shrimp, laid upon a bed of greens, bacon bits, and hummus. There was a bit of tomato there. But it was a marriage of contrasting flavors that came together perfectly 2. Roasted cauliflower: When I saw the dish, I was initially embarrassed that I paid $14 when I can buy a $5.99 sack of cauliflower from Costco and roast it without any difference in flavor. But the pea puree and feta crema *chef's kiss* added a depth to the dish that I could not accomplish on my own. 3. Fried Brussels sprouts: I am conflicted about this dish. Perfectly charred brussels sprouts with a still-crisp interior, mixed with crushed peanuts and just enough oil to accent the dish without making it feel heavy. But they added so much chili sauce that I couldn't enjoy the dish due to the torrent of tears coming out of my eyes and draining out of my nose as snot, not to mention the reflux. 4. Sichuan fried chicken: This was a popular item on yelp, which is why we ordered it. But it was overpriced, the meat was not tender, and the flavors did not come together well. The mushroom dumpling was a weird texture. Would not recommend. Service: The waiter provided just the right amount of attentiveness, making sure our water was refilled (and it REALLY needed to be refilled given the food was spicier than expected) without interrupting my party mid-bite or mid-conversation Parking: N/A. Let me start with service as it was impeccable. I'm so bad with names but we came here for lunch on New Year's day. It was a slow day for them. Maybe just 5 tables occupied. We ordered bread and oil, smash burger, Korean chicken sandwich, fish tostadas and catfish. I think the catfish was the winner followed by the Korean chicken sandwich. Having lived about a decade in the Southern U.S. I've come to appreciate restaurants like Etch. There are "cosmopolitan" restaurants in most major cities, but the best ones here in the South succeed because although they may be modern, they don't lose their "Southern Charm" or Southern Roots. There is a warm ambiance and a mix of casual to formal-dressed folks seated throughout the beautiful space. It s not in any way "haughty" or "stuffy," and yet still elegant and casual The menu choices are wonderful, creative, and fresh. Vegetarian choices are great and their chops and vegetables are all prepared perfectly. The price was not inexpensive but the quality of the food was well worth the price. I ate far more including dessert than I normally do and even enjoyed the rare glass of red wine. The service was perfect. We spoke with our server and they shared that the restaurant we had gone to earlier in the day where our son was dining (The Chef & I). I wanted one nice dinner during our last night in Nashville and made a reservation via Open Table at Etch as it was walking distance from where we were staying and had excellent reviews. Initially upon walking in I wondered if I had dressed too casually but there was a mix of attire worn by various guests. We had a 5:45pm reservation on a Thursday night - which was right before their peak (around 6:30-7pm). The restaurant was poppin'. From the moment we were seated the service was excellent. The sever was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and very accommodating. There is always a side thought in the back of my mind when dining in a nicer restaurant of how I'll actually be treated and I truly felt valued and respected as a dine-in customer. My husband and I shared the roasted cauliflower, salad w/citrus dressing, and duck on a bed of sausage and beans. The star of the meal was the cauliflower - which doesn't look like much but it was absolutely delicious. Great sauces (pea purée and some sort of crème fresh) paired with a generous portion of cauliflower - it was truly a shocker that it outshined the duck. Forget which salad we opted for but it was light and refreshing. I took a star away because the entree itself seemed cheap having been served on a bed of salty beans and sausage which didn't leave us wanting more. We appreciated that. Started off with a bottle of white wine and a charcuterie board, that was good. We tried a little bit of everything. We had a bottle of red wine with our meal and we liked that. I wasn't a fan of my pork chop, it was tender but that was the only thing I liked about it. The sauce wasn't great, I didn't think the pickled veggies paired well with it. From the sea, was mahi mahi and that was alright. Steak was also just ok. As far as the sides, we liked the brussels, the potatoes weren't our favorite either. It was more like a potato salad with fried potatoes. We definitely should've passed on that. We got two desserts, we like the chocolate bar. We're new to Nash so looking to give different places a try to see which ones stand out. Service: This was our first time and we were surprised. For one, given the prices you pay here, one would assume top notch service at least. I don't know if it was just our server or not, but it was real work trying to communicate with him. He made the experience much less enjoyable for us especially since I had to request simple things like a water refill. This wasn't the only issue either. There was no introduction to the restaurant, (i.e. is this your first time? Oh great, welcome in, let me explain a little bit about our menu). We had to request to hear any specials. And then when ordering a drink, my wife had to tell him 2-3 times she didn't want a certain ingredient bc he didn't appear to be hearing/listening. Again, for $175 (2 people, 2 dishes, 2 drinks. No sides, no apps), you would assume things like this shouldn't happen. Simple questions felt like pulling teeth with this guy. Food: Was good and decent flavor. Salmon/Mahi were both good.
