Absolutely delicious baklava and traditional greek coffee. Superb selections for appetizers and main dishes. Very friendly staff!

Tonight was our second visit to Plaka. This meal was as delicious as the first. I had the beet salad and the shrimp and feta appetizer. Both were divine. We ordered extra bread so as not to leave a drop of sauce on the plate. My husband had the perfect half-dozen of briny oysters served with housemade red and white sauces and fresh lemon followed by the stuffed shrimp-- a perfect lump crabcake landed on a grilled jumbo shrimp. His plate was clean by the end of the meal, too. Dessert was the scrumptious orange cake. Our server, Paul, was attentive and knowledgeable. The busboys kept our water glasses full and cleared plates promptly. The owners stopped by the table to greet and welcome us. The ambiance is light and airy with beautiful table settings. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. I was with a large party a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised at how organized they were. The atmosphere is casual and very comfortable. I wasn't sure about the wines but the bartenders were nice and let me try two of them before I made the choice to get a cocktail (an old fashioned-- which was delicious!) I had a Plaka mezze spread with the spiced feta, hummus and fava, a lentil soup, and my friend had the Arni Yiouvetsi. They were all missing something and none of us could put our finger on it. I would give this new trendy restaurant a 3.5 if I could and come back soon and update with a higher rating but since I can't give half stars, I'm rounding up. The restaurant itself is very beautiful, right off of eastern Ave. Parking is kind of hard, but they do have valet. There is a bakery attached to the dining area. We had several appetizers that were delicious! We had a group of four and everyone ordered something different and we shared. The moussaka was different. There was about 2.5 inches of bechamel sauce layered in there. It was way too rich so we could only manage a few bites each. The lamb was good although not quite falling off the bone tender. My husband had the grilled pork and that was decent. The grilled vegetables were ok, not quite as flavorful or moist as what you get served for breakfast everyday in Greece. I had the ragu, which was good, but it had an unusual flavor that I couldn't quite place. Overall, the wait staff seemed a little inexperienced, and like any new restaurant, they seem to be working out the kinks with the menu. I look forward to visiting again. read more

Estiatorio Plaka is a welcome addition to a rather dilapidated Greektown. The ambiance is stunning with plenty of light and modern design that makes it an upscale dining experience but at fraction of the cost. We hosted a large gathering here and the food and service were next level. If you visited the restaurant when it first opened I'll be the first to tell you they've made vast improvements/changes and now have a Greek chef. We tried all of the appetizers, chicken, sausage and octopus. All were exemplary. Manager Philippo really made us feel at home and we couldn't be more grateful. Everyone should stop by for authentic Greek food. read more

I have to say this is the best Greek restaurant in the US and would be an amazing restaurant even in Greece (I am Greek so I can say this) We were just looking for a light lunch and ordered the avgolemono soup, fava, feta, and tzatziki spreads, and dakos salad with pork souvlaki. All were delicious and fresh with none of the heaviness you sometimes find at Greek American restaurants. Definitely try the adjoining cafe and pastry shop where we got some tzambontiropita (ham and cheese pie) and I got a frappe coffee which the owner made for me by hand because the machine wasn't working. It is definitely worth a trip to Baltimore just to eat here and we will be back! read more

Leon, the bartender & server was brilliant, it is worth coming back just for him! The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. We ordered the mezze (taramo & tzaziki to die for), zucchini chips (delightful) for starters. Our meal was a lamb dish (arni yiouvetsi) and moussaka. The portions were very generous, so we were able to continue to enjoy it today. The orange cake & kataifi were delightful w/freddo cappucino as we enjoyed the dance performance by #SamiraShuruk. My wife had a salad and I had a meatball type soup type dish. The seasoning was hitting on all levels. We were not pushed in ordering and felt very comfortable. Everything I've had here is good, from the coffee to the pastries to the pork gyro, and I don't usually like pork, but they do it right. The smoked aubergine was a surprise hit. I was so pleased to meet friends for happy hour at the intimate and lovely bar, tucked behind a beautiful bakery at the end of an elegant dining room. I was charmed by the staff and the prices were modest . The wine that was suggested to me was perfect, and then the food started coming. Oysters for a dollar and zucchini chips and Greek salad followed by braised lamb shank that was so perfectly cooked that it could NOT have been better. A dessert trio of pastries and a beautiful cup of Greek coffee before I was on my way back to the Eastern Shore with a clear promise to myself to return. Such a wonderful experience, all around. Dined in a couple of days ago and it was by far the worst experience ever. Food has no flavor AT ALL! and food took an HOUR to get to the table when the whole dining room was empty. Drinks are mid. I would not recommend anyone to dine in here. Would much rather go to McDonald's. read more

I would recommend this spot, its food, the ambiance, and especially the filoxenia that you rarely get outside of your home or in Greece. We LOVE Greek food, we travel far and wide to go to enjoy oor favorite Greek fare. We will be adding Plaka to our list! The restaurant is beautiful inside and the service top-notch and professional. The food is cooked perfectly and the presentation is wonderful. We spent a week in Athens earlier this year and the portions were always so plentiful and the food fresh and well prepared --- Plaka reminds us of our visit to Athens. We will be returning soon. I did not care for the dried calamari, my dinner was good but it was heavy on my stomach, after I left to go home, my stomach didn't feel somewhat good, none sets the tables with salt and pepper shakers, my frappe for the price should have been in a taller sized cup, only have 2 single restrooms like not one big one with more then 1 stall, the hispanic lady who came out left her toliet paper in the toliet so I had to flush it which is gross, shows no respect, is a lazy person, across my table was a male Hispanic waiter with braided hair itching his hair while taking orders, none stopped it from happening, I know two people, 1 who owns this place, a woman who is another type of manager, never eating here again but I did like my waitress she was nice read more

Went here with a few friends and had such an incredible experience! Had no wait time and sat down immediately. The aesthetic was so chic, but also chill. My wife and I honeymooned in Greece and this restaurant's decor definitely took us back! Everyone working there was extremely friendly and gave us wonderful recommendations. After ordering we got food within minutes. We enjoyed a variety of items that were spectacular: the Greek salad, fried feta in phyllo dough, souvlaki chicken and pork, mousaka, rice pudding and a dessert platter (on the house)! We met the owner John who is so down to earth and made us feel so welcomed. He shared his story of coming down from a small island of Crete and growing up here in the states. The owner says he owns G&M Restaurant specializing in crabs and seafood as well! The Plaka restaurant doubles as a bakery coffee shop as well that sells so many goodies (just scroll across the photos). Will definitely frequent this place many more times to come! read more

Four of us went to Estiatorio Plaka in Greektown to have Friendsgiving dinner tonight. It was all around a bad experience. A cold, rainy, Sunday night, it wasn't too surprising to see an empty restaurant, but after our experience, I now understand why. Within minutes of being seated, our server was hawking $28 bottles of the restaurant's olive oil. The menu looked appealing, but the print was so fine that when we asked the server about something, she couldn't read the fine print. When I read it to the server, asking what it was, the description of graviera cheese was that it was like cream cheese. This was inaccurate as it's more like gruyere. We placed our orders. Two of us ordered the grilled bronzino. The menu described it as being served with Spanish rice. The other two orders were the grilled salmon and the slow-braised short rib over pappardelle. Originally we had an order for the mousaka, but at 5PM they were out of it... in empty restaurant. Our food was originally brought out early. The pappardelle did not have the short-rib on it. And they brought a shrimp meal that we had not ordered. When they realized their mistake they cleared the table and five minutes later brought our meals. The salmon on Spanish rice was good. The bronzino came out as just the fish...no rice. When we asked about the rice, we had to show the server on the menu that it said it came with the rice. The server later explained that they had to call the lead chef, and he confirmed the rice as part of the meal, and they began to then prepare the rice, while we ate the fish so it wouldn't get cold. Five minutes after we finished the bronzino, the rice arrived...after everyone was done eating. The pappardelle was fine, but the braised short-ribs were inedible. They had not been braised long enough as the collagen had not broken down. The meat was like eating rubber. At one point the server brought the manager over, and he never apologized, but rather seemed more interested in just removing the plate from the table and asking if we wanted something else. He seemed very distracted and ambivalent to our experience. In the end we were comped the pappardelle and offered free desserts. The flavors of the fish were very good. The braised short-rib had a very strong anise flavor that was unappealing to where even eating the pasta was difficult. In the end, none of the four of us will be returning. It was an all around bad experience. read more

From the moment we left our cars with the valet, our party of 12 was uniformly impressed with the modern, informal and inviting ambiance, the variety of menu items, high quality of the meals and their presentation, the pleasant and informative servers, and the personal attention given to our group by the proprietors of this authentic Greek restaurant. We favorably compared it alongside the better known Greek restaurants in New York City, of course at more reasonable cost. Don't miss the gigante beans, the salads with shrimp or chicken skewers, the many vegetable small plates. Vegans or vegetarians will also have plenty of choices.
