    philadelphia cheesesteak adventure
    James P.

Esterly's Mertztown, PA. 3rd generation cheesesteak makers. These cheesesteaks have been around the world. I love this area. This is a converted house. I am 90% certain that the grill room use to be someone's bedroom. It is the 'no grease' cheesesteak. The 'no grease' makes it a great traveling cheesesteak. $5.90, yes $5.90. At $5.90, if you live in this area you are wasting money if you don't eat here every night. It had the Pennsylvania Dutch soft roll. That is a very good change-of-pace roll. Sneaky good amount of meat for $5.90. Very good amount of cheese and very good cheese melt. With 'no grease' you can really taste the meat and the cheese. Nice sauce and I like the big chunks of fried onions but I wish they were mixed in with the meat & cheese. Overall, very good cheesesteak. @Mikeyyyeatz did a very good job.

Once again everything was amazing. Bacon Cheese steak is the best around. Being able to pick it up with no grease is amazing.

Bowers is famous for its hot pepper fest, but the hotel remains true to local Pennsylvania Dutch fare. It's quaint, historic and has the best homemade desserts. After our first meal there my partner asked if I was interested in dessert. I said, I was craving something coconut. He laughed and said they won't have anything like that. Well they had 3, coconut pie, coconut cake and coconut pudding which was delicious and more like cake. That sealed the deal for me, so here we are back again. I started with a cocktail which is rare for me. The Brandy Daisy was delightfully refreshing. I had the special grilled cheese. A spectacular creation starting with brioche, spread with pesto, layered with ham, bacon, cheddar, lettuce and tomato. I declined the egg which would have been too much for me. The house made chips were thick and crisp and seasoned really well. Partner had the schnitzel (I got his salad). The mashed potatoes were oddly brown. But quite delicious as was the veal, I had to taste both. We were fat and happy so we had to take dessert to go. Coconut walnut cake was moist and delicious packed with all the goodies. Buttercream iced 3 layer chocolate reminded me of my Pop Pop's. It was late, there were only 2 other tables so we had all the attention we needed. Starting to notice a growing disparity between cost and quality. This was a fine meal for the price, nearly equal to the one the night before which cost twice as much. So I included the bill

My mother only ate the shrimp out of her order, and my sister only had two bites of her pasta until we had enough. Our waiter came over and asked and I quote "how da food taste" I very badly wanted to say not good. But the sincere look in his eyes made me say it was good. After that, I noticed our waiter. Our waiter had his long hair dragging, and even touched our garlic bread not once BUT TWICE! I noticed after I ate the garlic bread and realized I might have eaten a piece of this man's hair. I will never come here again. I hope the best for this place!

All was tasty and enough for two meals. Total price before tip was $35. It's old style Italian yet very clean. Service was fast and friendly. I definitely recommend this place!
