Love coming here when in the area! This place is definitely a hidden gem and the locals love it. Theres a huge parking lot so don't worry about parking. They make great cheesesteaks; my favorite is the JJ which has a layer of ham under the steak & American melted over the toasted roll. Fried mushrooms are golden, beer-battered, orbs served with made-from-scratch horseradish sauce guaranteed to open your sinuses. (Most sauces/dressings are homemade which elevates everything they're served with). Stromboli is crisp-baked football stuffed with a thick layer of meat. Sauce tastes homemade, not out of can, dough has nice chew & some browning. Another favorite is Clams Casino pizza. This unique pie has a ton of chopped clams & heavy dose of oregano. Crisp bacon, green bell peppers, & garlic add such flavor even non-clam people go crazy over it. I could not eat my main dish salad and my husband had trouble eating his sub. My dish, a Chicken Salad Salad, is based on a layer of iceberg lettuce . The sub had little lettuce as requested. I could not eat the salad due to a strange odor that would hit my nose. I tried. I tried eating the chicken salad in the middle of the plate. No luck. My husband and I think the lettuce was cleaned (soaked) in chlorine but not rinsed . The waitress did not ask how the meal was or why most of my meal was still on my plate. I have never had an issue with the food. Always good. However, the last time I was there I purchased a salad and asked if I could have a toasted roll with it. Mind you, I agreed to pay extra for it. The waitress came back and told me they would not toast a roll for me 'cause there was no room in the oven! Really?! I have found from previous visits that they will not do anything out of the ordinary for the customer. I have recently become vegan for health reasons and Snuzzles does not have much to offer. I got a cheesesteak with roasted peppers. I had a trunk picnic in the parking lot. There is a fantastic view from the parking lot. I did not like my cheesesteak. I was expecting a soft roll that most places in that area use. The roll felt like a soft roll bakers version of a traditional roll. It was very bready. My Cheesesteak came with sauce but not a lot and the meat was a little dry. When I tasted Cheese It was good. Not many peppers and they were on the bottom. Snuzzle's is one of my favorite food places in the area. Been going here for years and always leave satisfied and full! Best time to go is right when they open because they do get very full (which isn't surprising because they are so good). It almost reminds you of like a ski lodge or cabin inside. Been here MANY times and never disappointed.....until today! The place was cold, people who came in after us got served first, the pizza was burnt BAD...I don't understand how anyone would be proud to send that out of their kitchen! Anything that required toasting or grilling was equally as black. I had been talking this place up to friends of ours and couldn't wait to introduce them to this gem....only to be disappointed. Food is great. Wait to sit was ok, 1/2 hour for 10 people. Split our party into 2 tables which was okay. Our food took over an hour with no reasonable explanation. Watched several tables be seated, served and leave. Waitress was inattentive. Management tried to write it off and blame the pizza and Stromboli for taking long, meanwhile had seen many others served prior. Other food we ordered was salads and sandwiches. Really quaint place with simple American food in a no-frills environment. Their sandwiches always satisfy and the service is good. If you sit by the windows there's often little critters scurrying about outside. There's a few annoyances though as you'll see others point out. Cash only -- you can get CC processing for less than 2% so there's literally no excuse in this day and age not to have it. No free drink refills. Seriously? How much does soda syrup cost? Stop being cheapskates! Raise the soda price 25c if you can't afford the hit to the profit margins. And yes, they should also pave their lot, but I don't see that as a serious issue. It does get noisy in there because there's nothing to absorb sound. It's all this cheap silliness that prevents them from getting 5 stars from me. Beware they are closed on Mondays! One last thing, I love how their menus have all the red typo underlining from MS Word and they printed them out like that. I'm not sure if I should find that ridiculous or charming, but it fits their quirky nature. read more

Great environment and food. Had their nachos, which were awesome and unique. Think deconstructed nachos, everything on its own plate and you dip. The salsa was to die for, fresh and incredibly spicy. We had a Stromboli which was huge and well prepared. Tons of ingredients and very tasty. Had a pitcher of beer, which came with frosted mugs and was very reasonably priced. Overall a great experience at a fun place. Wish they took plastic, but I understand why it's cash only. The other interesting item of note is that the always said that they didn't need a sign as ppl know them, I noted a small sign at the road - made me smile. So the sandwiches and food are good, However we've been there twice now and probably won't go back for a while. My biggest complaint is the amount of fries. Both times we were there I ordered an order of fries, and there were hardly any in the basket! To make things slightly worse, the 2nd time we were there the price on the menu was $3.85 and when bill came it was over $4 for the fries. Like, Fries are cheap, give me a full basket... Or at least make it a reasonable amount. Also this place is CASH only so keep that in mind. read more

The sandwiches here are unique- a bunch of different tasty flavor combos. I like the "ellen herself" which has coleslaw, turkey, provolone and russian dressing baked in the oven. It's on the web site menu under "customer creations" because there's also a whole menu of deli style sammies- clubs and hoagies, as well as cheese steaks, pizzas, and stromboli. My favorite stromboli is the easy to remember "stromboli stromboli" which has sweet peppers and italian meats and just the right amount of sauce. (Fyi the sauce is made with a secret recipe of herbs and spices and it is awesome.) If you try the salads, try the homemade herb dressing. You won't be disappointed. It's also a secret house recipe. Another favorite is the shrimp salad on a croissant, with shrimp that are cooked fresh, not canned. And the hoagie rolls, I am not sure what bakery they come from but they are awesome. A good hard roll can make or break a sandwich, as cheese steak lovers know. There's finally a sign outside so you can find the place more easily, although the parking lot is always packed on the weekends. I recommend eating here on a weeknight if you want to be in and out quickly, or get takeout as it is prepared with the same love as everything served in the dining room. As atmosphere goes, there's a smoking room near the bar, so you don't have to stand outside in the icy wind if you smoke, the bar stools are like thrones with armrests and cushioned seats, and the whole inside of the place is hardwood walls and stone floors. On cold days they even fire up the fireplace in the dining room. It's very cozy and rustic. For full disclosure, I worked here for a few months years ago. But I was a customer before and I am still a customer. The little peek behind the scenes just lets me tell you with certainty how clean the kitchen is and how friendly the staff is. read more

Went for the first time on Thanksgiving eve, so they were pretty packed... That being said service was slow, but that's pretty understandable under the circumstances. Honestly that would be the only knock on dinner. Food was very good, our waitress was very nice and polite, we were seated right away, etc... I just wish it didn't take 45 min for two sandwiches or could of had a couple more beers while waiting. Definitely going to go back the next time we are in town and when it's less busy. The best "secret" in Berks County? A restaurant located in the middle of nowhere that doesn't even have a sign is kind of cool in its own right. From the outside, it's a rather nondescript wood building in a gravel parking lot. But somehow it beckons you to find out what's inside. Once inside, you'll find that the building is divided into two sides: a dark but comfortable bar area, and a cheery, bright, expansive dining room. I prefer the dining room. Custom woodwork abounds. If you are into wood, it's worth the trip here to see how they did it. It's not super fancy or intricate, but it is rather unique. The drink menu is outstanding. I'm not a martini or mixed drink guy, but if I was, I think I'd spend the next year trying them all out. The beer menu is quite excellent as well, with a good selection of draft and bottled beers including Guinness on tap. At first glance, the menu appears to be standard pizza and sandwich shop fare. But it's really better than that. Great apps, salads, pizzas, and strombolis. I like the pizza with "attitude." The sandwiches are some of the best you'll find in the area. Always made with fresh ingredients. The mushrooms in particular always seem so nice and fresh. This being the heart of Mushroom County, I think they get it. Awesome french fries too. Don't be afraid to ask about the "customer creation" selections either. Sandwiches with names like "The Bill" or the "The Ellen." I think my favorite is the "Snuzzlene." If you live in Berks and haven't been here yet, it's worth a look. Is it worth a drive from say, Philadelphia just to eat here? Probably not. The food was great! Love the Philly cheesesteak rolls vs the hotdog style rolls everyone up here uses. Our last visit the dishwasher was down, so only takeout orders were available. They rolled with the punches and used plastic cups for bar service, which we utilized while waiting for our order. The only negative thing I can say about Snuzzles is they only accept cash. The small nachos were a decent size. It was more of a nacho dip with the chips served on the side. I wasn't blown away by the flavor though; the beans and veggies were kind of bland, couldn't really taste the beef (not sure if there was beef even in it like it said on the menu), and I would've preferred real cheese instead of that yellow cheese sauce. Mario's wicked pizza was not very "wicked." I couldn't really taste the hot sauce or bleu cheese dressing. The overpowering flavor was chicken and cheese. However, it was still very tasty - the dough was nice and thin with a thick layer of cheese, even though it wasn't what I expected. The atmosphere is hard to beat - it's dimly lit, cozy, wooden, and had the Rolling Stones playing in the background ( not too loud, not too quiet). Service was good too. I've been here once before and the food (stromboli and breaded cauliflower) was really good. I wasn't too impressed this time, but I still give it 4 stars because overall it's a better than average place and they don't rip you off. read more
