Came here for happy hour and While. Everybody had an amazing time drinking their incredibly creative margaritas, their ceviche was a pretty big turn off. The fish felt extremely rare and very fishy, which is not how usual ceviches are supposed to be especially coming from a seafood restaurant. That was definitely the popular opinion across the entire table. The guacamole was absolutely plain and non-memorable. Their tuna crew from the regular menu was absolutely amazing, but it was also $27 dollars. I would still highly recommend the place during happy hour for margaritas. Never seen such a huge and creative variety before at that price point.
Phenomenal food and service but the noise levels are quite loud. It's warranted though since this establishment was filled with people, so I suggest booking a reservation to secure a spot. Everything was great, from the starter to the dessert. The half portion ceviche is a great decision because it allows a solo diner (like me) to enjoy more items on the menu. You can expect each device bite to be fresh, tangy, and slightly spicy. The Cachetada and Bokchoy both also had deep flavours, but are quite overpriced for their portions. I came here to find the best seafood spots in the area, and I think the Pescado a la crema delivered. The halibut completely melted in my mouth and was enriched with the salsa cremosa. The baby shrimps adds a nice texture and the squash completed the smoothness of the entree. The dish is still on the smallef end, so ordering starters dishes are necessary to acquire fullness. The Pineapple Tarte was suggested by my waitress Chelsea. The item did not intrigue me on the menu, but the recommendation completely proved me wrong. It is like a slightly milder Key Lime Pie, but with a smoother yet still denser texture. With the crumble bottom adding a nice crunch, the dessert wonderfully wrapped my experience at Este. The dishes can be adjusted to your preference, which is the cherry on the top to come back for more. I can't wait to share this soot with my friends and family.
Another great meal at Este. The halibut with crema was out of this world good. The cachetada tacos, cochinita pibil, and amberjack ceviche were also all delicious. We enjoyed the canela cake for dessert. Our waiter was excellent. When he noticed my wife wasn't enjoying her coffee, he immediately came with a fresh one. Very attentive!
4.5 Stars Este is a sister restaurant to Suerte - the interior is beautiful, the staff are super nice, and the food is beautiful and high quality. Prices are on the higher end. Think fresh, mexican seafood. We came for a group dinner on a Sunday with a reservation. Drink: BLUE TANG CLAN ($17) this is a fun drink! Like a blue, smokey Pina Colada. Food: -ESTE CEVICHE ($24) - both ceviches were small but beautiful plated and very fresh. -SHRIMP AGUACHILE Verde ($23) -CACHETADA TACO - Wagyu Ribeye Taco ($15) - this is a ginormous taco with plenty of protein - we split it between 4 -FISH TACOS ($19) - large, filling, and yummy -BOK CHOY A LA PARRILLA ($16) - I am not really a vegetable girl but this was pretty unique! We also tried 3 desserts - PAY DE PIÑA ($13) and BUTTERMILK PIE ($13). Love a good thick crust on a pie. so yummy. They were so lovely to bring out little vanilla chocolate cakes with candles for my mom and sister :) Such a lovely end to our meal!
Ambiance: 4/5: Its what you expect to see at a nicer Austin restaurant. They have complimentary Valet Parking, but other than that you have to find street parking. Service: 4/5: Our waiter did a good job at checking in. A couple things to note: they will not seat you, until your entire party is present. Also, if you are celebrating a birthday and are planning to bring a cake, be ready to pay a good amount. Food: 3/5: The agua chiles and the shrimp dish were very tasty. We were a bit disappointed with the tacos and the quesadilla. They were very mid. For the price point I was expecting for every dish to be filled with flavor. Drinks: 3/5: Drinks were fine. A little too on the sweet side. I dont think I will personally come back, but open to trying it again if invited.
This spot sits in the former home of one of my all-time Austin favorites, Eastside Cafe. When it closed, I remember the owner sharing that whoever came next would prioritize both the quality of the food and the overall experience, and thankfully, that promise held true. I don't make it here as often as I'd like, but every visit reminds me why it's worth it. Everything I've had has been excellent, and the cocktails are a standout bonus. The Friday happy hour stretching through most of the afternoon doesn't hurt either. The fish tacos are a perfect example of what they do well, made with a crispy batter with a lightness that lets the flavors come through rather than covering them up. With a menu inspired by Oaxacan seafood, there's a cohesion to the dishes that makes the whole experience feel intentional. It's a great choice for a special occasion, or simply when you're in the mood for a really thoughtful, well-executed meal. The restaurant itself is gorgeous!
What a gem of a place! Beautiful interiors and service was impeccable. Food and drinks were delicious! Only thing that we expected of the aguachile was the shrimp to be "cooked" a little more with the lime but it was really raw for our liking. We ate everything else on the plate though! Perfect for date night!
It's been almost a month and I am still dreaming of our dinner at Este. When we were planning our trip to Austin multiple of our friends in the restaurant biz from Miami recommended Este, so we knew we had to make a reservation. First of all - the vibes are immaculate. It's cozy yet chic at the same time, creating a space that is inviting but not too stuffy that you don't feel right at home. I wish I remembered our servers name, but she was SO nice an helpful in our ordering journey. We had some things in mind, but she also helped steer us in the right direction. One of my friends does not eat red meat, so that guided our choices which are below: +Tuna Tiradito: my friend who lives in Austin said this was a must order and she was correct. Insane. +Cachetada Taco: the two of us who eat meat opted for this wagyu ribeye taco and wow. Our server said it was the best steak taco in the city and who am I to argue with that. +tostadita de toro: stop what you're thinking about and order this dish. The most incredible tuna belly with the perfect amount of chipotle aioli and a hint of citrus. D I V I N E +Mushroom Quesadilla: so much cheese, but great. +Camarones El Ricas: so good, shell on shrimp with a great butter on top. +Bok Choy: we opted to get some veg, and this was great. I loved the tahini maple dressing. For drinks I got the tropical marg which as passionfruit. My friend got the Verde which was refreshing and delish. Shout out to the team for the Guavamente cocktail which is N/A - while I did not order it, the nod to Elvis Crespo was not lost on me. I also noted that they did have a good amount of N/A drinks on the menu that were quite interesting. I love to see a varied cocktail menu with something for everyone's tastes. Este also has a bar adjacent to the restaurant that is supposed to be great, but we did not get a chance to go. Once again our server was so friendly and helpful with recs of where to go for the rest of our trip. We could have probably done without one dish for our group of three, but what is a vacation if not to enjoy trying so many new things. Loved my visit here and would recommend to anyone in Austin. I also see they have happy hour, which is great!
Visited Este to celebrate my partner's birthday. Lovely place for a special occasion. Gorgeous interior design with coastal vibes that complemented the seafood based menu. Service was fantastic. Our server made great recommendations. We ordered: - Two Sombra cocktails - fruity mezcal margaritas. Very tasty! - Tuna Tiradito - this was my favorite, each bite was bursting with flavor. Phenomenal. - Pescado Zarandeado- a massive full fish of the day, served with black beans, slaw, and tortillas for a "make your own fish taco" experience at your table. Huge portion, more than enough to share! Fish + fixings were fresh and delicious. - Tamal - this was a vegetarian item and was so good for a break from the seafood. Highly recommend to balance out the meal. - buttermilk citrus pie for dessert - I was skeptical but this ended up being one of the best desserts I've had. Don't miss it!
A couple of friends took me here last evening as a birthday treat. The food was amazing! Everything was wonderful from the presentation of the chips and salsa to the desserts. We ordered some mocktails and the hoja en blanco cocktail. We shared all the items we ordered tapas style: ceviche, fish tacos, calabacita salad, tamal, and the pistachio cake desert. Since it was my birthday and I'm lactose intolerant Priscilla, our server, brought me a peach hibiscus sorbet birthday dessert, which was refreshing and tasty. They were extremely busy last night so a few times we had to try to find Priscilla for a couple clarifying questions since the food items seem to come at different times that we expected, but when we did get her attention she was really helpful in addressing our questions and guiding us to the best choices for us! I look forward to coming back to Este and trying more items!
This was my favorite dinner on our little getaway. Staff was so nice!!! The food was the cherry on top! I loved their seafood forward menu. The tuna sashimi was some of the best I've had. The onions, shallots, and garlic combine creating the most beautiful umami flavor. The Spanish sea bass was so decadent and covered in a delicious base. I liked the build your own taco vibe it created. We also had to try the fish tacos, swordfish was phenomenal and hearty! As for dessert, I was sad they were sold out from the marigold ice cream but the choco flan was perfection. Thanks for having us!
I'm not from here but it was a recommendation from a local friend. Wow was the food delicious! We came on a weekday but it was still pretty busy. Would recommend a reservation for larger parties. They have outdoor seating but it was a bit too humid for me to enjoy outside. Our waitress was very helpful with recommendations and described the items super well. On Tuesdays they offer 50% off of bottles of wine so we took that opportunity. I left super full and wanting to try more. Great vibe for an upscale dining experience.
An amazing experience start to finish. We arrived about 15 minutes early to our reservation and they didn't have the table ready but made us feel welcome and had a server come take our drink order to enjoy while we waited. Once seated, our server was awesome and explained the whole menu and listed off his favorites to us. We sat on the patio which was very comfortable and good ambiance. The food is so unique and flavorful. I can't wait to come and try more. My reviews of our meal below. Tuna tiradito - 10/10, great balance of flavors, not fishy at all, the tuna was perfect. Fish tacos - 10/10, incredible! The swordfish was so good and the breading was so light and crispy and not too heavy or greasy. I will come back for these hands down. They are the best fish tacos u have found here that remind me the most of Baja style in California. Cachetado taco - 9/10 - Wagyu beef taco was very good but just a little too heavy for our preference Pescado à la crema - 10/10, shrimp cream sauce and black cod with perfect crispy skin it all worked so well together

We came here for dinner on my friend's bachelorette. It's very cute on the inside and has great vibes. Our waiter was great and walked us through the menu and gave great suggestions. We started with the chips and salsa that's complimentary. The green salsa was yummy, the other one is more of a crema consistency. We started with oysters, and the ceviche. Both were so fresh and delicious! We then shared the fish tacos, smoked tuna crispy tacos, chicken flautas, and potatoes. The fish tacos are great but the habanero hot sauce is very very spicy so beware lol the smoked tuna crispy tacos were a good bite as well as the flautas. The desserts stole the show though! We got the basil cake and poppy seed cake both were soo good to finish off the meal. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin so far! We visited after a work event and thankfully they took us right to a table on the patio even though it was pretty late and we didn't have a reservation. Our server was so nice and explained every dish thoroughly. I started with a mezcal cocktail that I loved! They bring complimentary chips and salsa, both were delicious to snack on while we waited for our food. Our server recommended the tuna tiradito:bluefin, avocado, allium salsa negra, crispy leeks and I have to say this was the highlight of the meal. I will go back just for this dish! We also tried the mushroom quesadilla QUESADILLA DE HONGOS: confit oyster mushrooms, epazote, quesillo, costeño amarillo salsa and it was so rich and flavorful! Everything was great! I took half of this to go and it was still fresh the next day reheated. They brought us a complimentary salad since they were out of shishitos for the night, and now I will purposely order the salad! ENSALADA DE VERANO mustard-date dressing,mixed greens, sungold tomatoes, garden cucumbers, caskey peaches, candied citrus zest. So bright and fresh! Tasted like Summer! We finished with the PESCADO A LA CREMA halibut, shrimp salsa cremosa, squash, habanero ash oil, chives and it was like straight butter. Just melted in your mouth. The serving size was small for it to be someone's meal, but for us sharing we had plenty leftover since we ordered so many items. The shrimp on top of the halibut were amazing! I have never had a dish like this before. Our server recommended dipping the soft corn tortillas in the juice, and packaged me up some to go. Overall 5 star experience and I can't wait to go back! A friend recommended trying Este while we were in town and it just so happened that Dua Lipa also dined here while she was in town for Austin City Limits... and if it's good for Dua Lipa, then it's good for me! Our group of 5 dined here for dinner on their patio (they also had ample seating inside, but the weather was so nice that we wanted to take advantage!). Everything we ordered was literally a HIT! Something to keep in mind is that the dishes here are meant to be shared. + We started off with the seafood platter (oysters, clams, and white fish salad) and ceviche - all of it was fresh and had the great garnishes and seasonings to amplify the taste. + For our main dishes, we had the camarones "el ricas" and pescado a la crema which were perfectly cooked, doused with just the right amount of sauce and seasoning! Additional tortillas were dropped off warmly. + We also ordered the Yukon gold potatoes and the caesar salad as side dishes and I was honestly impressed at how vibrant and crisp the salad was. + We ordered the almond torte, lime mezcal pie, and oaxacan crema cheesecake which were all delectable, but I would honestly order the lime mezcal pie times 3 if I had the choice because that was an absolute home run! + There's an extensive wine and cocktail list, along with non-alcoholic / mocktails as well! I enjoyed my tropical margarita (made with reposado!)! The service was attentive and engaging, but not overbearing at all. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. I love the ambience- the cool blue interiors and the airy covered patio. You are served with tortillas and two excellent salsas to nibble. Some of the must try dishes here are the CAMARONES "EL RICAS" and the smoked tuna crispy tacos. The staff here is very helpful whether it's your first time or you're a frequent visitor. Brought an out-of-towner here since they're kind of bougie and this fit the bill in terms of having hype, ambiance, and good food. The Tuna Tiradito which was recommended by our waiter was easily everyone's favorite. It paired perfectly with the free masa (which was honestly one of my favorite parts of Este). The Camarones are popular here as well and were good but when I come back, it's going to be because of the Tuna Tiradito and the free masa. read more

I went to Este for happy hour. We sat at the counter by the kitchen. There was ample space to put our food but we sat relatively close to other diners. I had the Blue Tang Clan drink. It was definitely blue and had a tropical taste reminiscent of the beach. We had the tostada mixta as an appetizer. It was refreshing and flavorful. I liked the habanero ash aioli. I had the smoked tuna crispy tacos. They were delicious with a kick to them. I would definitely come back to Este for dinner. read more

Best service! Again, went for an oyster happy hour because I'm on an oyster kick haha! Told them it was recently my boyfriend and I's anniversary and we were treated so well. They gave us free little tastes of things and it was incredible. I plan to return and try more things. read more

Fresh, flavorful, and worth every bite. The aguachiles and tuna tiradito were the stars.. Super fresh with bold, balanced flavors. Paired perfectly with a crisp white wine that brought it all together. Upscale vibe without feeling stuffy. Our server was also great! Making our experience even better. Respectable coastal Mexican spot. Wasn't seated right away even with having a reservation. Seemed like they were trying to space out seating. Definitely don't like that when I can visibly see tables open. Food was good. Wagyu tacos were expensive at $14 each but were good. My black cod dish was decent but need some sort of vegetable. My biggest gripe is there were no sides to purchase. If you're going to have entrees that are just a meat and a sauce, offer vegetable sides a la carte! Dessert we had the carrot cake and the cheesecake. Both were inventive and pretty good. Service was decent and the server was knowledgeable. read more

Where do I begin? Tantalizing flavors, excellent service, cool vibes. No complaints here. Save this spot for a special occasion, yes it's pricey but well worth every penny. Every dish we ordered had a unique presentation and a flavor explosion. Sat by the kitchen which was entertaining but if you prefer a quiet more intimate meal reserve a table. Keep up the good work, I'll be back for sure... even for a to-go dessert order (so unique and innovative!). This is one of the places where you absolutely order dessert after your meal! read more

One of the better meals I've had in a while. Atmosphere is simple and bright, feels very inviting and comfy inside! The service was great, and the food was unique, fresh, and delicious. It was a great mix of classics (like traditional guacamole) and innovative dishes like a melon salad that was somehow soaked in mezcal and spices, making it a tangy and sweet almost jello type consistency. The happy hour deal (which is also on Sundays!!) was excellent. Would absolutely go back. The tropical marg and quesadilla were some of my favorites, and the oysters were a big hit! read more

Went here for Valentine's Day and it was amazing. The tuna tiradito was so fresh and the citrus flavors really stood out. The ribeye taco was so juicy. The pescado à la crema was to die for. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Our server James at Este was incredible. We were all from out of town visiting for a birthday celebration. He treated our large group graciously and attentively, while making great recommendations. The ceviches were very fresh and delicious and the cachetada taco was outstandingly flavorful. The complementary chips and dip were a show stopper for me. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would consider this a must visit in Austin! read more

5+++ to the nth degree... If I died and went to heaven, the meal we had this evening is the one I would want to have as my first meal. My husband and I had an early dinner at Este. Everything we ate and drank was next level. We did not know until arrival that Este has a happy hour on Sundays from noon to 5 PM. We ordered two margaritas as recommended by Leo our server (SALADITO tequila blanco, tamarind, ancho chile, apricot, lime & TROPICAL tequila reposado, passionfruit, pineapple, lime, angostura bitters.) The drinks were aesthetically pleasing and masterfully mixed and came with large blocks of clear ice (my personal favorite.) We also ordered the guacamole and fish taco. The guacamole was creamy and flavorful prepared with sesame oil. The standout item was the tortilla chips...appeared to be stone ground with a strong, crunchy texture. I can safely say these were the best tortilla chips we have ever eaten. Leo told us they were prepared in a similar fashion to pasta where they are rolled out, cut into squares and deep fried. Omg they were so excellent!!! The fish taco was seasoned so exquisitely prepared with a tempura type crust and moist in the inside. The taco was sprinkled with thinly sliced cabbage. The restaurant also inadvertently brought CEVICHITO (white fish, avocado, carrot-pepper salpicón, chile oil ceviche) and we absolutely loved it. Sometimes you can dine in a restaurant and you feel extremely special...Este is one of those restaurants. From the moment we stepped upon the property, we felt like we were going to have an amazing experience. Este did not disappoint. Leo was the most amazing waiter. He shared recommended food items like the CAMARONES "EL RICAS"...butterflied shell-on shrimp, lime, chile costeño garlic butter, cilantro...literally finger licking good. We also liked the sexy, cool vibe. The restaurant has a sophisticated yet warm environment. It allowed us to totally transport ourselves from work and the world. We shazamed some of the mellow music: INRI by Judeline Gypsy Woman by Joe Baatan Catalina La O by Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez Lauren by Men ITrust We ended our meal with the ALMOND TORTE (vanilla-almond cake, coconut frosting, toasted almonds) & BAY LEAF CHEESECAKE (garden bay leaf custard, graham crust, strawberry-lychee jelly, candied sunflower seeds) both uniquely prepared. At the point of dessert, I told my husband I could not eat another bite, however, when they brought the desserts, I managed to eat a good portion of the desserts. Highly recommend Este!!! As someone with a shellfish allergy who loves to live on the edge (kidding... mostly), let me tell you about Este -- the seafood restaurant that somehow keeps winning me over. Sister spot to Austin legend Suerte, and yes, the talent clearly runs in the family. On paper, this makes no sense for me. A seafood-forward menu? Bold. Reckless. Chaotic. And yet -- I keep coming back. Not because I enjoy flirting with danger, but because their team is incredibly knowledgeable and careful with allergies. The menu rotates with seasonal gems, but the staples alone deserve a standing ovation. I've genuinely never had a miss. Every plate feels thoughtful, vibrant, and just a little bit show-offy in the best way. And the desserts? They don't just end the meal -- they close the show. And please, if you can, sit at the bar. The bartenders are elite -- charming, talented, and the kind of people who make you say, "Actually... one more." The drinks are that good. I love Suerte, so naturally, I'd also gravitate towards Este. I was able to grab last-minute early dinner reservations and promptly got seated upon arrival. It was great they had free valet up front too. The restaurant was bustling and the energy was vibrant, much like their food. We asked for recommendations and started off with the tuna tiradito and este ceviche. The tuna tiradito took me by surprise. It was fresh, vibrant, punchy (from the citrus chili), and crunchy (from the crispy leek). I'd be happy getting a second plate. The este ceviche was smokier than I expected, but still good. The smoked tuna crispy taco had a good crunch, nice kick, and the fish was tender and cooked really well. The fish taco, however, was a little underwhelming. The fish itself was seasoned well, but it was drowning in so much shredded cabbage that didn't do the dish any justice. Just from these few dishes, I can tell they really take pride in their coastal seafood. It was a great experience overall and I can't wait to come back and try more. read more
Finally made it to Este, which has been on my list for a long time. The restaurant is nice and light and the patio looked like a nice option as well. I got the blue tang clan cocktail, which was perfect for me as a mezcal lover. The food was all very tasty. I appreciated the free chips and salsas, and the chips went well with the ceviche which may have been my favorite menu item. We also go fish tacos, tuna tacos, and the cochinita pibil. We got the lime pie for dessert which was good but the greenest pie I've ever seen, and I'd love to know what makes it so green! Service was helpful and friendly as well. Overall it was a great meal, and I'd love to try some additional options on the menu, but not something I'd return to immediately due to the prices. read more

Excellent Service, backed by impressive appetizers made with farm fresh ingredients! Dining on the patio was beautiful and peaceful despite there being lots of people. Oyster happy hour was our main reason for checking out Este (which had several great oyster options to choose from), but the service and appetizers are why we will defintely be going back! On top of that, their wine list was quite impressive for a place that does not advertise a wine program. read more
I would say, this is a pricey taco spot that charges per taco. Choose wisely. The location has valet and parking can be hard. The waitress was attentive and he was helpful deciding what to get. The outdoor area is a must! The waygu tacos were my favorite and I would come back for only that. The ceviche $24 was good but such a small portion. My mom and I ate here the week after they hosted ACL artist Dua Lipa. It has been on my list for a while so it was a funny coincidence that Dua visiting sped my visit up! We arrived slightly after our reservation due to weekday traffic but the restaurant seated us very quickly. Despite being busy our server took great care of us & made good menu suggestions. We got the fish tacos, cachetada taco, squid a la plancha, happy hour cevichito, and an additional taco that was on the happy hour menu. Everything was delicious and perfectly seasoned! They refill the huge tortilla sheets for free, but we recommend limiting how much you partake in as they filled us up a lot before the courses came. The restaurant is super clean and cute, with valet parking due to tricky parky location. It's next door to one of their sister restaurants which I want to try next (having already tried Suerte). We will also have to come back to try the cochinita pibil, camarones, and the desserts! read more

always heard that this spot is your favorite chef's favorite restaurant - and it didn't disappoint! a must get: the tuna tiradito. so delicious with the creaminess of the avocado contrasting with the fresh tuna, and the salsa negra/crispy leeks give you that umami kick. the oysters were super fresh as well, and we also loved both the sauces the complimentary chips came with - very flavorful. what i would NOT get again is the cochinita pibil. while it was good, i do not think it is worth the $34. just a classic slow cooked pork taco situation, albeit done well. we got another specialty item (pescado à la créma) we liked better - great if you love a rich creamy sauce that is light at the same time. next time, i would stick with the barra fria and eat family-style read more
WOWZA! GREAT DINNER! GREAT SERVICE & EXCELLENT COCKTAILS in warm ATMOSPHERE ~ what more do you need? We started with cocktails and each was very good, they also offer some non alcoholic drink options as our daughter is pregnant, she didn't feel left out our apps were guacamole & oysters on the half shell plus the clams, ALL well worth the price & disappeared as quick as ghosts in the nite. There were 4 of us, this was a new experience myself & my husband. I ordered the Halibut a la Crema, my mouth is watering just thinking about the deliciousness. Cooked perfect for my tastes I literally could have licked the plate clean it was sooooo good & the sauce was "OVER THE MOON" tasty my husband ordered on of the specials of the evening, the steak and I could hear him making yum noises with every bite, and his plate was also was clean when picked up b4, ordering dessert~ Such an enjoyable evening everyone was sooo pleased with their orders, this is certainly one of the BEST meals we have had in Austin I wish I remembered our servers name, as he was FABULOUS with explanations & recommendations without being pushy. This is my second time at Este, and I have to tell you I am rarely a repeat restaurant goer. There are so many new places popping up all the time in Austin that it feels wasteful to go to the same place time. Este is an exception to the rule. I had such a good experience last time, that when I craved a nice boujee meal, I thought of them and opted to go here over trying something new. I started off with a saldito margarita which was on the sweeter side with notes of apricot (exactly what I was craving), and some este ceviche. Their ceviche is one of my favorites in the city. It's fishy, salty, oily, and fresh. Everything you want in a good ceviche. My friend and I went on to split the fish tacos, Wagyu ribeye (cachetada) tacos, which were both incredible. Filling enough to leave little to be desired, but still light enough to not feel stuffed. We ended the night with their take on chocolate cake - apparently it's the chefs favorite! May just be mine now too. I wish I remembered our servers name, but she was so sweet and funny so props to her. A+ experience all around. read more

OVERALL: I liked the way the restaurant was decorated and the variety of seating options they had. It is nice of them to offer a happy hour menu over the weekend. However, the food was not impressive for the price and I would really only consider it for happy hour drinks, and honestly you would find me hard pressed to come here even for that. There are so many great food options in Austin, and this was our least favorite. If you are coming here, I recommend going in for happy hour as some drinks and tacos are discounted. Since it is expensive, happy hour is the best value for your money. As of this writing, happy hour is Friday, Saturday and Sunday 12-5pm and Monday-Thursday 5-6pm. ~~~DISHES~~~ Food we tried: We had the swordfish tacos (individually are $8 each for happy hour instead of $19 for 2, for example), smoked tuna crispy tacos, the ceviche (cevichito), and the camarones a las ricos. -Great: cevichito .We enjoyed the ceviche the most, in addition to the two salsas that came with the complimentary tostadas they serve at each meal. The best food item we tried was the cevichito. The tanginess of the sauce was nicely offset by the smokiness of the chile oil sauce was incredible. It made me feel like I was on a beach vacation. -Meh: Swordfish tacos. The batter on the swordfish taco was light and crispy, not greasy at all, and brought a delightful crunch. However, the swordfish itself lacked flavor and overall it required the addition of the complimentary salsas (that were intended for the tostadas) to help. -Meh: Smoked tuna crispy tacos. I liked the crunchiness of the smoked tuna crispy tacos but the tuna was too fishy. The smoked tuna in my opinion is not the best choice for this dish. -Meh: Camarones "El Ricas". We also had the shrimp which were grilled to perfection. It's already an expensive dish, and if you're uncomfortable eating the shells, you're not getting much out of the dish. The char on the blackened shells were some of the best bits, but again this needed the salsas for the complimentary tostadas to enhance the dish. ~~~DRINKS~~~ Drinks: We tried the sombra off the happy hour menu. We really liked the smoky flavor that was imparted by the mezcal. It was a decently strong drink and was delicious. read more

Thinking about going for a casual lunch, is this place more fancy?
In Austin there are not many super fancy places for lunch. I think it’s more casual than fancy. However, in think you could go casual to fancy and everything in between.
Is there gluten and dairy free options?
I'm allergic to all seafood (fish and shellfish) would you still recommend eating here?
There are items on the menu that do not contain any fish or shellfish, but the good majority of the menu has one of those ingredients. If you are really allergic, I personally wouldn't risk it.
Is there a brunch?
Este is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30am-10pm at which time, they offer their standard menu.
Can you snag a table without a reservation if you show up when they open?
I asked our server, because I have family that eat vegan, and wanted to know about bringing them in. Our server explained that there were a couple of salads, and a mushroom…
