Found this place on Yelp and read the bad reviews, so I walked in a little bit on guard. I read that the staff was unfriendly, but when I got there they were no more unfriendly than any other nail salon. I mean, they are Asian here and it's just not their culture to be like "HEY! SO GLAD YOU ARE HERE!" They paired me with a man, Nick, when I was very on guard about that but he did a good job. They are a little bit pricey and I say that based on the fact that a gel manicure was $2 more than what I paid in California. Given that cost of maintaining a business is much lower here, that seems a bit pricey to me. All-in-all it was a good little salon, the biggest complaint I had was that the hand massage was very short. So, if you just want to get your nails done, go here. The environment is relaxing and they will get you done quickly. If you want an experience, maybe not as much. read more

I shared some photos of what happened to my friend but I feel like a review is very necessary. She got a fungal cyst from this nail salon and ended up having to get the tip of her finger removed. When this happened, she reached out to this nail salon and they did not take any ownership of the issue. She also got a blood infection, which can be very dangerous.She has to take multiple pills a day now because of what happened. This shouldn't have happened to her and we want to prevent this from happening to someone else. read more

Not a great experience for a few reasons: 1) I had on normal nail polish coming in (not gel), and the woman doing my nails used the electric gel remover file to take off my polish; I'm concerned that my toenails are too thin now. 2) She was very rushed clipping my cuticles, and cut three toes. All three of them bled, and she keeps needing to use gauze to stop the blood. One of them hurt badly enough that I involuntary pulled my foot away. read more

Just went to this salon yesterday and had an interesting experience. Both my mother and I had gone to get pedicures and manicures and the end product was good, but getting to the finish was a bit rough. I got cut on both my big toe and second toe and it was bleeding (plus it hurt). I didn't get to enjoy my pedicure because my feet hurt. The same happened with my mother. On the bright side, my nails came out very nice and the man who did my manicure was extremely friendly. read more

So I have to preface this review: I have been going to Essence Nails on and off for three years. I would give it 5 stars for their nail technician Kim, who is not only kind and personable, but does a fantastic job on nails. Everywhere else I've gone in the area doesn't do near as good a job as her. She takes the time to do it right and has no problem making sure that you're happy with everything. She also became a great friend since I came to see her so much. However, a couple of months ago I called to schedule my regular appointment and they said she didn't work there anymore, with no explanation as to where she went or why she left. I'm so sad about that, because I went to different salons for months in Utah to try and find someone I liked. I don't know if I'll be back now that she's not there. The two stars are taken off because of a pedicure experience I had that went awry last year. A girl who I'd never worked with before ruined my toenails by trying to buff them down with the wrong tool before I was able to have her stop. The result was painful and it took months for the nail damage she caused to grow out. She was a such nice person and the mistake was clearly unintentional, but I had to see doctor for the problems that resulted and my toenails are just starting to look normal again a year later. To be fair, I will state that I've always been happy with how polite and kind this salon is: they are much more personable than other places and I love that. And it may not be fair to judge this salon for one bad mistake, when I had so many good ones with Kim. However, with the painful pedicure experience, combined with Kim's absence, I'm not sure I'll make the journey down to Provo for this business in the future. read more

Honestly, this place has been my go to for years. I love it. I would swear by the pedicures. But this last time I paid well over $50 for a pedicure and gel nails for a trip to the Bahamas. The guy I had was new so I was super patient and he did okay but made some big mistakes at my cost. Also. Day one of the trip, which was five days after my trip in, the gel literally flaked off my toes. I swam and in ten minutes the gel just wasn't there. I don't want this to be true. But I am very unhappy with this one. Might have to find a new place. Bummer. read more

Awesome pedicures! Everything from basic pedicures to full on pampering. You sit in a massage chair while they go to work on your feet and legs. I get pedicures more for the massage and pampering than for the painted nails and Essence did not disappoint! We were there on a Saturday and it was quite busy so I definitely recommend making an appointment. We happened to get there at just the right time and didn't have to wait much, but there were a lot of people that did have to wait. I'd say the service was worth a wait though. read more

Unfriendly staff. I got a very cold greeting and then was ignored for 5+ minutes after I told Vicky I was there for my manicure appointment. They are very much interested in making $$$ and if you aren't going to generate $$$ for them, you're going to be put on the back burner. Really like the atmosphere and they do a great job with gel manicure. My nails lasted 3 weeks before chipping. I've also had a spa pedicure before and it was lovely. They use scrub and massage with lotion. The price is a couple dollars more than other locations in Provo/ Orem but it's worth it. read more

Came here with my sister to get our nails done the day before her wedding and this is by far the best gel manicure that I have ever had!!! Wish I could keep coming here but I am from out of town. They are fast and efficient. Their pedicures are my favorite. A few times the paint job hasn't been the best but the actual pedicure is dreamy! Fabulous massage and great job with trimming and prepping nails and feet. Gel nails are awesome too. I wish they had more color choices but the ones they have are lovely. read more

I really wanna give this place a 5 star. They do great work and are very friendly and even decent priced BUT they are just in too much of a hurry. The last 2 times I have gotten a pedicure it was rushed, Or they would work on my feet than go to someone else and back to me. I understand they get busy and try to accommodate everyone but it would be nice if they would just turn some people away or have em wait. i used to love going here but this most recent time i had the most uncomfortable experience ever. the woman who did my nails was extremely rude and when I mentioned that my nail beds were weaker and how to be careful with the electric nail filer, I guess she misinterpreted. she went on clipping my nails so short I started bleeding. she finished prepping within 5 minutes (not kidding), when she glued on the acrylics she didn't measure it so the sizes were wrong. she then cut the acrylic length as short as my real nail. I asked for round shape but she gave me crooked almond shapes. When she filed she did so carelessly, so all of them are uneven. the acrylic powder is stuck on the sides of my nail and she didn't want to fix it or clean it so I just have a thick chunk on the side of my nail. she used the electric filer harshly and pressed along my cuticles, so my skin burned. I wanted French tip but she drew them on carelessly as well. When I told her I wanted them more thin ( as she drew the tips super thick) she sighed and proceeded to grab my hands with pressure. From the beginning, I wanted to just leave as I can sense she was not going to do my nails well, however, I'm a shy introvert who can not stand up for herself. I was really tempted to not tip but I still tipped because it was going to be my LAST time going. when my nails were drying she would take the drying machine abruptly to transfer it over to the other hand. usually you wait until the person takes their hand out of the drying machine. I went back into my car and SOBBED. I was in the parking lot crying for a good 15 minutes because that was most definitely the worst experience in the entire world & the nails are horrid. thanks essence for the past 3 years. i honestly wanted a refund but since you were good the other times i just sucked it up. read more

I used to love coming here! It was my Monthly getaway from my kids! I get gel nails and a pedicure every time I come! I introduced this place to my Nieghbor and my best friend. After 72hours 3 nails were chipped and I called right away to make an appointment to see if I could get them fixed. They said no problem when I called and scheduled me an appointment. When I arrived it was a completely different feeling. They made me feel uncomfortable and couldn't find the same color and said it fades after a day or two. It took a lady away from doing someone else's nails even though I made an appointment and made the other lady getting her nails done irritated that I was taking away from her time. So right now I have three nails that are completely different color from the rest. I'm sad, because I really did like this place but don't know if I would ever be comfortable coming back after leaving with tears. read more

I have only been twice and I am not very impressed. I have been getting pedicures for years, and from outstanding California salons. This salon is fast and their prices are good, however, their customer service is terrible and they are so busy that walk-ins are impossible. When I was there the first time, they stopped taking calls about an hour or so before closing. When I called on Saturday, two hours before closing, to make an appointment for Monday morning, I got a busy signal for an hour. When I arrived Monday morning, 5 minutes before it was due to open, no one was there and the salon was dark. The employees drove up at 10:15 with their breakfast in their hands. Provo seems to be lacking in good nail salons, but I'll drive to Orem or American Fork to get better service. read more

I read all the bad reviews and let my friend talk me into going anyway. This place is terrible. Their customer service sucks and I had to go back twice for 5 repairs on my gel manicure. I've NEVER had such a bad experience with gels and I've lived all over the US. I've also never written a bad review for anyone. I just went in for my last repair there ever and they were so rude to me. The girl got up 6 times during my appointment and just left me sitting there with wet gels on. She was hurting me when she removed my gels also. I tried to stray from utah nails and I fully regret it. Never coming here again. read more

I'm from Houston and I have had premium nail service my entire life. When I came to Provo, I tried multiple nail salons, all who did not do a good job at all. I came across Essance about a year ago and have never stopped coming. The owners and workers are all so nice and always perform quality service. My nails are always beautiful and my experience wonderful. After a long week of work, there is nothing I'd rather do then spend a relaxing hour and a half getting pampered by such wonderful people. I highly recommend Essance nails! I suggest getting the deluxe pedicure. It's only a few more dollars than the regular one, but you get an amazing, long massage with hot rocks! Essence is the best nail salon I've been to in Utah, and I've been to a lot! Their pedicures are amazing and prices are unbeatable. I tell all my friends about how great they are. I get shellac nails done about twice a month and I love that the nail techs here take their time to do a good job. I have found that my shellac lasts longer when I go to Essence as well. I highly suggest this nail salon because the quality and price is unbeatable! I really hope they don't raise their prices like most salons.
