Being from LA, 1 what is this? Why is it just a whole chicken in a tortilla? 2 Sloooooooooow operations. See pic of 4 self-service screens and only 1 for customers to use. After 20 mins of waiting for ~10 orders, the guy opens 1 more screen?? The kitchen wasn't even backed up? The guys were waiting there for orders. Came here for opening weekend where all the vibes were great . They were handing out free mezcal shots and freshly fried churros . Everyone was extremely friendly...but the tacos were okay. Got the steak, mushroom, and Al pastor. The meat was a decent size but at times a little dry and a little lacking in flavor. Got the pina fresca which was really watered down. The sundae was delicious! The ice cream + corn + meringue was the best bite of the day. I would not venture out to Brooklyn just for these tacos as I've easily had better tacos (the quality of the ingredients was top notch but def lacking in flavor and not the tastiest taco I've had). Overrated. The tacos did have a generous amount of meat but, it was flavorless. The meats had almost no seasoning whatsoever. And, if it hadn't been for the side of guacamole, I wouldn't had eaten more than a bite. The flour tortillas were horrible. Near transparent, no flavor whatsoever and could not hold the weight of the meat. One bite and the taco fell apart. SMH The corn tortillas were better but still didn't help much to make these bland tacos good. The only taco that had a bit of flavor was the al pastor, but there was no pineapple to be found. I was truly excited about this spot opening as I love Atla and Cosme by the same people but unfortunately this place was just disappointing. There is no seating, only tall barrels to stand at and it's very small inside with little room to wait or move around. We ordered one of each taco and there was no explanation or help from staff as you order at a kiosk. The tacos are filled with a slab of meat. They are not braised or ground but a thick slice of meat with some onions and cilantro and a bit of red or green salsa. The steak was chewy and dry with almost no flavor. The chicken was more tender but still no flavor and the mushroom was so tough we couldn't bite through it. It was probably the worst taco I've ever had. Apparently you are supposed to add salt yourself to the tacos but that wouldn't have been enough to save these. The famous corn husk ice cream was reminiscent of the famous corn husk meringue but not as good. Please Don't waste your time Waiting in line for These tacos. These aren't the best, nor the second or third best. Ranks last. If we are being honest, the Mexican food in New York sucks. Pedro pascal said it and he is not wrong. We have a few mediocre spots on Roosevelt/queens and Los tacos number1 for a gringo approach, which I do enjoy very much. I wouldn't go to Los tacos number1 and say "I feel as though I just visited Mexico City" no, I would say "good food and a great take on Mexico City tacos, great way to charge 6 dollars for a taco" Taqueria rameriz is as authentic as it gets, but if you have experienced mexican food in other cities you would find the prices offensive. Needles to say the owner of taqueria Ramirez is as smart as they get, New York City is the only city with a large Mexican population lacking in authenticity. It would be senseless to not charge 5-6 dollars for a taco you can't get anywhere in the nearby radius. ON TO ESSE TACO The pastor has an unauthentic flavor, possibly mint. Fairly, It is quality steak and chicken. Tacos are visually authentic. The taste however lacks in authenticity. The tortilla is a shame. It's a nice quaint corner spot, you order on a computer. Go 15-20mins early as there will always be a line. There is a bathroom in this establishment. Food we got their TODOS LOS TACOS RIBEYE, POC CHUC, AL PASTOR, MUSHROOM with flour tortillas with chihuahua cheese. I loved the chicken and pork as I am a meat eater, my wife love the mushroom. The ribeye was not a fan for both of us, because every one of the taco was so juicy in their own way and ribeye didn't taste anything special. Drinks I would suggest bottle drinks, we tried the hibiscus and pina drink was very light for my comfort. I knew I should have gotten my cola lol. Guacamole and chips was not a fan, I love my sauce with a lot of lime. I couldn't taste any of it, I would opt out as it isn't anything special and the chips are hard & not salted in my mouth that I had to take small bites. The music is loud, the space bare and echoey (though also cramped) and the fluorescents pinpoint and bright--as if designed for headache. And the eating area has NO chairs (!) and barely tables-- it's like. Oil drums so you all have to stand around a tiny, low, circular table. Ordered the Todos Los Tacos and tried one of each of the beef, chicken, pork and mushroom, plus a side of Topos and salsa. They were all delicious and the mushroom was surprisingly delicious. Solid tacos overall but honestly nothing special. Got the steak and the chicken tacos. Steak was good, chicken was bad (really just tasted like the overwhelming amount of pickled onions). Salsa was good. This place seems like an overwhelming amount of tik tok hype with little actual follow through. Doesn't hold a candle to Los tacos 1, and is probably closer in my book to the taco truck near my place (which is good, but cheaper for more food, and has the same amount of seating lol). Also aside from flavor I agree the single slice of meat in a taco wasn't doing it for me. There has been such a good upgrade to the Mexican food scene in the area, and I was excited to see esse joining the conversation. My first impression at seeing the unmanned kiosks and orange laminate countertops was that a famous chef armed with venture capital was testing a concept with mass expansion ambitions. ok, I don't like that in principle, although if that means good tacos at the airport or on a highway pit stop, I guess it isn't such a bad thing. so it comes down to how good the tacos are. I tried all four and was not impressed. the theme of all four was a grilled protein doused in a sweet sauce. as usual, a lot of fuss is made about the authentic artisanal heritage masa in the tortillas, but I found them tasteless and a bit mealy. they were fine I guess, but i didn't make any audible yummy noises like at Ramirez. Frankly, nothing was a good as a fish taco at tacombi. don't think I need to go back...unless it's at a gas station outside of Hartford on a car trip to Boston. read more
