What a great addition to the Frederick community. I went with my wife as a "date night". This was the first time either of us ever went to an escape room, so we really have nothing to compare it against and didn't have any expectations other than we hoped to be entertained. We were thoroughly entertained. It was amazingly fun. After the first few minutes we started to understand clues better and the fun really ratcheted up. The "mob boss" room was awesome. So much thought, time, and energy put into the props, design, and layout of the room. And the puzzle itself was all the brainchild of the owner, Alex, and his wife. Side note, after 5 minutes of talking with the owner, you have to hope this place makes it. He is a super friendly guy who you can tell just has a passion for puzzles. He also is very involved with the community and is CONSTANTLY giving proceeds of his sales/profits to charities (e.g. Hurricane Harvey, hurricane Irma, etc. ) Is $28 expensive? Yes I thought it was a little steep before I entered the room. Then afterwards I thought: "that was worth every penny". If you are debating, go! You'll love it. read more

So much fun! Really high quality rooms. Such a fun activity with a group of friends! We did the Lab and it was really challenging and that math problem was killer!! I went here as part of a team building activity with my work group. It's the first escape room I've done. Although I don't have anything to compare it to, I thought that the room we did (the lab/biohazard one) was challenging but not impossible. As as scientist myself, I love a good challenging puzzle, which is just what this was. I look forward to seeing what they have in the future. One more thing, the people there (presumably the owners(?)) have a great attitude. Nice and welcoming. They make sure to really give you the low down on some of the locks (some locks are a little unusual with how they are opened) before you start so that there are no surprises with the locks when you get inside. This was a really neat experience, there were two rooms to pick from as a first time couple playing. They were bio chem lab and the mafia room. There was another option of two rooms that were identical for competing groups of 4-12 people. We were put in a room with people we didn't know that was awkward and unexpected. In the long run it was helpful because we did escape with almost 7minutes of time left. However, if your planning a date night do it with another couple to avoid working with people you don't know. read more

Escape this is the 2nd of 3 escape rooms in frederick. I am visiting each one. My friend and i did the fbi/quantico/crime scene room with another couple whom we did not known prior. Lobby is sparse but has comfortable seating and an open area for birthday parties. Very modern decor. Room was lightly decorated to the theme but it worked and kept visual distractions to a mininum. My husband and I have done about 45 escape rooms, most in the Los Angeles area. While visiting Maryland we decided to check out the Mob Boss room...and we loved it so much that we returned an hour later to play their other room. Highlights: - Great set design. - Lovely use of props as puzzles, requiring outside-the-box thinking. (For comparison - we played other rooms in the area that were little more than a series of pencil-and-paper brainteasers. This was so much more.) - Stories that made sense. Apparently in Maryland it's illegal to lock customers into the room, so their creative team factored that in. Instead of focusing on escaping, we were focusing on accomplishing goals. - Puzzles we'd never seen anywhere else. Once you've played 45 rooms, it's rarer to be surprised by something new. We still talk about one of their puzzles! - No (or few) red herrings. It's always felt like "cheating" to me when a room wastes your time with letters and numbers that ultimately lead nowhere. There was none of that here. - Strong clue system. Showing the clues on the screen meant that we didn't have to break the immersion by hearing the gamemaster's voice. And the clue limit meant we strategized about using them. - Just the right number of clue/puzzle "tracks" - few enough that we were all aware of each puzzle and clue, but enough to do that we weren't stuck in a bottleneck. - Minimal number/letter locks. - Thoughtful game designers! We talked with them afterward about their rooms, and they were passionate, creative, and had thought through their rooms with great care. If we end up returning to Maryland we'll definitely come back. Really rooting for them. read more
