Came here to play the Monopoly themed escape room. There were 5 of us in our group for the room. I would say this room was very hard. I've done escape rooms with myself and another person, 3 people, and 8 people. This was a struggle. It was fun once we realized what a clue was for. But honestly the clues weren't obvious sometimes for what the clue went to. A few things in our room were malfunctioning during our time, which caused us to think the answer or solution we did was wrong. This caused us to waste time. At one point, we were asking for help. A different game master came on to help. Then it switched back to our game master but we had to repeat our question to get help. It was fun in the end but the clues felt like they weren't obvious to help us get to the solution or the next clue. There were also several objectives in the room that took all 5 of us at once. Some parts we could have used another person or two. read more

I had such a fun time at Breakout. This was my first time doing an escape room but some of my friends in my group had done them before. Check in was easy. Once we signed our waivers, we were all set and taken to our room. We did the Mystery Mansion room and our game master, Eric was amazing and very helpful. I liked how we were able to have multiple hints, even though we were so close at times to solving a puzzle or combination code. Unfortunately, we didn't escape. After the game, we were told the room we chose one of the hardest and not many groups escape it but we made it further than average groups that attempt so I felt better about hearing that. Had a fun time with my team here the other day. I love a good riddle and excitement trying to figure things out together. Reminds me of National Treasure LOL. After talking to some of the other teams about their runs we realized that sometimes the clues then I'll go together and a lot of times you had absolutely no idea how you would have solved it without the help of the voice in the room. I also thought that we would be deducted time for each hint we asked for or help but that wasn't true in this case so there isn't a way to know who had more hints than other teams. That might just be the competitiveness than me but it's something to state. Nonetheless, we had a really good time together as a team and I would definitely go back to try again however would make sure it wasn't just two people. I think we had a good number of people per team. The staff was really nice and tips we were given were extremely helpful. read more

Went to this Columbia location and did the Island Escape and loved it! It was perfectly medium with having enough activities to keep 4 people busy helping each other with figuring out the clues to escape. Chris was our room leader and was very nice and accommodating with our group. We were a few minutes late to our reserved time but he just started our room a few minutes later without docking our time. I highly recommend this location and trying these rooms. We escaped with 5 min left, I would say that the amount of things you have to do and level of difficulty were appropriate for the time given. I came here for a work event at the end of June, with a large group who did different rooms. There is plenty of parking since it's near business offices. This was my first time in an Escape Room and I had a ball! I really enjoyed it. My team had 5 different people and we did escape the room before the time ended. We did an interesting room where we were handcuffed and blindfolded! It was called The Kidnapping Room I believe. The employee that was assigned to our room was really helpful in giving us a lot of tips on what to do next when we got stuck, and the space was clean and temperature controlled. Afterwards we could take pictures together and use the photo props they had. Overall, a great time and I would highly recommend. I would visit again too. read more

I was able to attend an opening experience at Breakout Games, when they first popped-up in the area. Excited, while living in Columbia, MD, for a new social activity go-to spot- I jumped at the opportunity to go! Then I realized, years later, I never posted my review, but I want to go back in time because I loved the experience. Tucked away in a business building plaza, the first challenge was finding the place! Once we arrived, we hung out in their big spacious waiting room, with lots of comfy seating Attending for a Yelp event, while waiting, we were treated to pizza from Homesylce. We were selected for the Mystery Mansion room. The room itself-no spoilers- had a great balance of standard 'escape room type clues' with a blend of obscure 'you wanted me to solve that?!' clues. It was really perfect for the random assortment of people we had, there seemed to be something each of us shined with! I really enjoyed the difficulty level, we didn't breakout but we were 2 clues away, which made the experience exciting up to the last second. While in the room, we learned we had a dedicated Room Master. This put Breakout at 5 stars above and beyond any other escape room experience we've been at in the area. The room was minimalist, which was hard at first, but our 'Master' was watching what we were trying, and offering one minimal hint to nudge us along. This was key for most of our experience-We didn't get generic hints that didn't account for 'maybe we already tried that!'. What I loved was the Room Master was clearly watching us the whole time, and was able to tell us 'you're right, you're just standing facing the wrong wall'. It was amazing, it gave us a confidence without just meaningless hints to move us along. This is the one location where I can finally say I do want to try every room! read more

This was our first time at this escape room and my first-ever experience playing the Escape Room games. We did the Runaway Train and it was beyond amazing!! This particular escape room or the runaway train required solving a few basic math skills. - This is a hint. The Runaway Train was full of fantastic puzzles and a few codes. We managed to save everyone with minimal help from Jordan who was the staff assigned to us. For my first experience doing the escape room, I am hooked! I love watching Sherlock Homes, I enjoyed tapping into Sherlock Homes for the time, 44:30 it took us to stop the Runaway Train and stop the bomb from exploding. I can't wait to do another one!! Overall my 2 experiences at Breakout Games has been good and I would go back. I had previously done 'The kidnapping' room at another Breakout location and had a great time. This time, we did the runaway train themed room. Our game master, Honey, was very nice but we walked away frustrated because I believe the room itself did not act as the game designers intended. If I were you, I would definitely go to breakout games but pick a different room than the runaway train room. *spoiler alert*- Please do NOT read beyond this if you intend to do the runaway train room! The very last step before you win and escape the room involves pulling on two things in a patterned sequence. The things you pull give noise feedback that they have been pulled. However, when we pulled the items in the correct sequence it did not work. We tried a second time and a third, then ran out of time on the 'bomb'. Afterward Honey confirmed that we were doing the correct thing and pulling in the correct order, yet what we did didn't work. I suspect the mechanism is some type of electrical contact switch that must be fully closed before you can open it again, so if you pull it fast, you receive the feedback noise but can do it too fast for the system to recognize your action. Breakout games employees, if you read this, please make the "horn" less finicky! read more

I've been to this location twice now. Online reservation is easy, staff is friendly, the two rooms we did (mystery mansion and the island one) were overall well done. I also love that you're always guaranteed a private room with your reservation. The rooms are a little pricey, but it is worth it for the occasional treat/celebration. For my family get together, we tried the museum escape room and pretty quickly got into the main room to work on the many puzzles. We did ask for help and the employees were very helpful and did not make us feel dumb. Ha ha. While we didn't get out, we had a lot of fun working together. Great fun! Our group of 8 did Mystery Mansion. We had a fun time! It was a challenging room with multiple locks and skills needed. We had a great time trying to figure out patterns and codes. My family and I went here for my sister's eighteenth birthday. We went into the Mystery Mansion breakout room, and we broke out in 48 minutes and 58 seconds! The room was decorated to match the theme and it was the just right level of fun and difficulty. In this room you really have to look everywhere, or else you'll miss something. This was so fun! My husband and I went here as an anniversary activity. It was the middle of the week in the afternoon, so there was no one else there. We did the kidnapping room. It was challenging while still being fun. Out game master, Zaq, was great! He gave us hints without giving us the answers, so we could still figure out the clues on our own. We were able to make it out with a little over 3 minutes to spare. It was a bit pricey, but understandable since it was just the two of us. My party and I went to make a reservation early in the morning, around 9ish. Our desired reservation was scheduled around 10:15. The reservation stated that you needed to 'call for availability.' We called multiple times, once before 10, around 9:45. No answer. Then we called at 10:05ish and still, no answer. We drove over to see if we could make a in person reservation, however, when we arrived at 10:30, 30 minutes after opening, the door was locked and nobody seemed to be present. When the employee arrived, 30 minutes after opening, we asked for a reservation and they stated that you must make your appointment 2 hours in advance, this was not stated clearly on the website. I'm not sure what the rooms are like, however the reservation system is not very organized. If you do end up trying to make a reservation, I recommend making it multiple days in advance. read more

In the end, we didn't escape but we got close and had a blast in the process. Our guide, Felix was super nice! This was my first time at an escape room and I was so impressed! I had been hesitant about going for a long time because of the steep price tag that escape rooms have, but after going to breakout games I can say that's it's definitely worth trying at least once! I went with a group of 7 friends and we did the "do not disturb" room-- I won't give any spoilers but will say that it is really fun!! Be careful if you are claustrophobic though, the rooms are pretty small and can get stuffy with a large group. Eric was our game master and he was awesome. He really accommodates to the group and how much/little help they want throughout the game to create a fun experience for everyone. Highly recommend! read more

My fiance and I did the Submarine Survival room. It was incredibly well done with great attention to detail! The room was super immersive and made you feel like you were in a submarine. The puzzles themselves were challenging, but followed logic without any huge leaps in logic (an issue at many other facilities - we are fanatics!). With the exception of 1 thing, it was clear what was part of the challenge and what was part of the infrastructure of the room. Our gamemaster, Nick, was clearly extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the escape rooms. He loved what he did and it showed! He was polite, offered guidance (when asked) without giving away too much, and was professional. Breakout Games will be our go to for the Baltimore area now, as it has a wide variety of rooms, is challenging, and is well done. read more

We did the island escape room. The room was so filthy and dusty. Half way thru, my niece was having an asthma attack. By the end of the hour, two adults kept coughing. If you don't know how to play either this could be very challenging room to get out of.. We did the Mystery Mansion. A little over priced in my opinion.
