House made dumpling fillings, General Ern's chicken and fried rice. The fried rice was full of egg and veggies; perfect! We love coming here! We had the Jungle Bird (for 2) delish! And their mai tais killed it! Prom night for our son, so date night for my wife and I. Super cool space with a beautiful front door! Started with Char Siu ribs appetizer. There were only two ribs but they were large and very delicious! She got the chicken and broccoli. It had a little heat and was very good. I had what I consider to be the absolute best Mongolian Beef I've ever had. Portion sizes were very generous and the service was on point. Parking was a little bit of an issue. My mom and I wanted to try this place, as I saw it on a few tik toks and it looked neat on the inside at night with the lights and florals. We tried to come on a weekend during dinner time, and the wait was too long so we decided to come back another time. We went for lunch the other day, and I am glad we went during this time because it was during dumpling hour, and so our pork dumplings were half off. I liked the chicken we got, but I wish the broccoli was smaller and cooked more. The dan dan noodles were okay, then we enjoyed the dumplings with the dipping sauce it came with. read more

Stopped in for lunch at Ernest Chinese in Chattanooga and had a wonderful meal from start to finish. We started with the pork dumplings--perfectly tender with just the right amount of savory filling and dipping sauce. For my main meal, I ordered egg drop soup, spicy egg fried rice, and Mongolian beef. Every dish was delicious! The soup was silky and comforting, the fried rice packed a nice punch of heat without overwhelming the flavors, and the Mongolian beef was beautifully cooked with a rich, spicy sauce and tender beef. On top of the great food, the ambience is just lovely, modern, stylish, and welcoming, with thoughtful design touches that make it feel like a special place to dine. The food was good, but overpriced for what it is. There was nothing phenomenal about the food to me. The service was friendly, but felt inattentive. It was lunch and there were few to no tables, but our drinks were never refilled. The location is nice and the building is quite interesting. Everything is clean, but this place is not the most disability friendly location. The menu is printed on top of a pattern making it quite hard to read the actual print especially with vision impairments. I did not see any handicap dedicated parking, but there is paid parking on the street and in front of the building. The building is flat and open enough for a wheelchair, but the large door going in would be quite difficult especially by yourself. I did not attempt to use the restroom so I can not speak of the accessibility there. read more

This is the first time we've back since the restaurant was the Flying Squirrel. The look, has not changed at all, the service continues to be impeccable, and the new menu was a delight. We sampled the Crab Rangoon as an appetizer and for the main course, the duck fried rice and the Dan Dan Noodles. Absolutely delicious, wonderfully complex flavors that melded so well together. Our offerings were certainly not your typical Chinese food. Sorry it's taken so long to get back and try the new menu, you can rest assured, we'll be returning soon. read more

My husband and I stopped in for lunch this week and had a great experience. The service was amazing and the food was absolutely delicious. We tried several different items and loved them all. We could tell that everything is made with high quality ingredients. Truly, you can't get anything like it anywhere else in Chatt. My only criticism would be the price point. While we definitely plan to come back, it will probably be more like once per quarter or for a special occasion as $18 is just slightly pricey for a lunch special. I've eaten here twice in the last couple months and both times were wonderful. I'm gluten intolerant and this restaurant's gluten-free options are really good. The first time I came here was for dinner. I had the chicken with broccoli which was the best chicken with broccoli dish I've ever had. The second time I came here was for lunch. I had the veggie stir fry with chicken. It wasn't as good as the chicken with broccoli dish buy it was very good. Both times we ate at the bar. The service was excellent both times I came: very attentive, anticipating when I needed more water, and providing good information when I asked. Great atmosphere, food, service, and drink selection. The tiki drinks were a bit wonky from what I'm used to, but who can complain? So what the Chattanooga Gate 11 Gin is a bit harsh? So what they use blue curaçao and Agricole in their Mai Tai? Probably the first "tiki" experience many people are ever going to have and it's honestly a great entrance. Fantastic amari selection, reasonable prices for decent portions. Incredible decor. Will definitely be back at least once a month. Only negative comment I can leave is that the music was a bit too "bro-ee" and loud. I mean it was like Foster The People, Tame Impala, white, middle-class, yuppy ass music. But once again, who cares? The great food and drinks more than make up for it. 9.5/10. 100% would AND WILL bring more people here! read more

The service and food were absolutely amazing. My partner has not had food this good since they actually lived in China. I have a shellfish allergy and our server went above and beyond to make sure that what we ordered would be okay. The Gong Bao chicken was so good we will order it often. 5 stars for ambience-romantic, moody, dark, cherry blossoms, and lights 3.5 stars for food-which if I had to bet will improve as the restaurant is pretty new. This is the only restaurant I have ever been to that I can say is heavy handed with their spices and seasonings. Crab Rangoon had way too much ginger in it. Had actual crab and cream cheese in it which was good but I didn't care for it because of the heavy handed ginger. Their version of kung pao chicken is different. Chicken was a little hard from over cooking and the flavor was not spicy in taste but mouth numbing?? I don't get it. Mongolian beef was well flavored. Some pieces were a little chewy which could be fixed with a higher quality meat. Rice was not jasmine just ordinary white rice. On the upside they had beautiful serving dishes. 4.0 Service was good. I think we were forgotten for the first little bit while we waited to order but server was very friendly and kind and gave us the crab Rangoon free of charge. Would I come back again? Yes. Because I love the mood and ambience. Hopefully though by next time all the kinks are worked out with the food and I can give it a 5 out of 5. Pretty good! We shared the eggroll, wonton soup, General Ern's Chicken, and Gung Bao Chicken. The eggroll and the wonton soup were the meal's highlights for us. I found my General Ern's Chicken to be rather lackluster, which is surprising because there were a lot of red chilis in it. But sometimes the magic isn't there. The Gung Bao Chicken was somewhat better - and it gained in flavor as leftovers the next day. The eggroll was handmade and very large. The wonton soup was markedly unlike what you would expect at a Chinese restaurant - and that is not a criticism. Service was very good and the atmosphere was hi-dolla. read more

Went there for our 25 Aniversary for the first time. It was a Thursday night so it wasn't busy but somehow the service was very slow. We ordered spring rolls (very greasy) and veggie dumplings (they came cold). Ordered a mock-tail and 3/4 of the glass was ice and the drink tasted water down already. I then order the tea and it was good but my tea cup had a leak and I got tea all over my pants. My husband ordered a happy family shot and it tasted beyond foul. My veggie stirfry was ok but nothing special. My husbands general Tso chicken came dry with no sauce to complement the rice. The food was nothing special that could justify the high cost and neither was the service. I was very disappointed and will never go there again. read more

The song choices were great and all of the little touches from the dishware to the fresh flowers to the garnishes on our drinks were exceptional! It was like jerky. The pork egg roll was bland and the hot and sour soup was horrible. No hot...mostly sour. Probably the worst I've had. I truly wanted to love it but the food was not at all what I would have expected from an establishment this lovely. Maybe I was there in a bad night. I didn't know it was possible to ruin these. Perhaps my unrefined palate wasn't ready to accept that the cream cheese was MIA. You might think that the Mapo Tofu would be vegetarian, but there is pork in the dish and the kitchen cannot make it vegetarian (which isn't mentioned on the menu) HOPEFULLY, they will add good vegetarian main dishes with Tofu. Overall, a pretty good upscale Chinese food experience with room for growth. American Chinese food I was really hopeful for this new restaurant. Given that the restaurant was born of them being bored, I had expected the menu to be more than your standard take out menu. There is nothing creative on it. It's all very standard American Chinese food. The food is fine, but comes at high prices. I started off with the dumplings. They were okay and cilantro was easy to take off. Similarly the dandan noodles were okay and the cilantro was easy to take off. Side note there should really be warnings about cilantro; some of us really can't eat that. Sesame chicken was good, and green beans were okay. For drinks I had a lychee martini and it was good. Of all the menu the drink menu is still where they managed to succeed. If only they put similar effort towards the food menu! We'll likely still be back. I'm hopeful they will figure things out and update the menu. It just wont be somewhere we go as often as we did before it was Ernest Chinese. read more
