I'm a big fan of Chinese food and usually try to eat it a couple of times a month. I'm not sure if it's a positive or a negative, but strip mall Chinese food is pretty standard. The menus all look the same, the choices are all the same, and the restaurant layout always looks the same, regardless of this town city or state you happen to be in the only thing that seems to have variety is the actual quality and taste of the food. With everything else looking identical, it's easy to get load into thinking that they're all the same, but from experience, I can tell you there are some really bad ones out there. Fortunately, New China is a good one. They give you quality food at a good price point and they have recipes that have good flavor, just enough spice and variety to make it taste good. I'm still looking for that stellar strip mall Chinese place, but in the interim if you need just a good Chinese fix New China's a great place to try. They are friendly and quick. I left town for the army in 2005 after having been born and raised in the Soddy Daisy, Hixson, Lakesite area. Every time I come home, I find another car wash, another apartment building, another sign that developers will stop at nothing, not even Moccasin Bend. However, if I want something that never changes. If I want something that is the exact same as when my dad took me to rent movie gallery movies, as when I was a teen looking for familiar food on a Friday night, or to return home at 37 and find that not even the wall menus have changed? I can count on New China. This place has been here for me most of my life and I know I can walk in for the same experience. I say this without irony, I love it right down to the faded picture of the Great Wall of China. I hope you love them too. Now I'm bringing my kids, where you can count friendly service, same good food, and some memories. read more

I don't know if they have new owners or what because they used to be decent, but Last 2 times I got takeout here, the chicken was completely inedible. The General Tso's first and now the sesame chicken. The chicken was hard and crunchy all the way through as if it had been sitting under a high heat lamp for days. Nothing about it resembled chicken. It's honestly the worst food I've ever gotten from a restaurant and it's repulsive that they would serve this garbage. I will absolutely be reporting them to the health department. read more

Found this place to fulfill our Chinese food craving and it so happened to be right down the road from us! We ordered the chicken fried rice, beef low mein, shrimp in lobster sauce, crab ragoons, and spring rolls. For Hixson, TN this place was pretty good!! Everything was fresh when I came to pick it up and the staff was friendly as well. You definitely can't beat the price either, everything we got was under $6 a piece. The orange chicken was just ok, tasted like a mix of orange sauce and soy sauce. The fried rice was a standard fried rice. The chicken in the chicken fried rice was not great, pretty dry and pieces difficult to chew. The chow mein was not chow mein at all, very soggy and watery. The low Mein was ok. Food was ready when I arrived, went directly home (10 min). Ordered dumplings and chicken Lo mein, my go-to order to test whether it's good or not. Food was lukewarm and definitely not worth the time or money. Lo mein was almost a dark brown, seemed like it was reheated, dumplings too. Won't go back. read more

Living in the North Hixson/Soddy Daisy area we have a few restaurant possibilities when we are looking for a Saturday or Sunday lunch. We have lived in this area for 20 years and have loved the growth of the restaurants. When we first moved out this way, there were only a few choices. One of our earliest choices was New China in the Dallas Bay shopping center in North Hixson. When they first opened, we ate there quite a bit, but much less now that we have more choices. However, when we are looking for an inexpensive lunch that will actually provide lunch for two days, it moves towards the top of the list. The restaurant is located in the Dallas Bay shopping center and is a typical strip mall take out Chinese restaurant. There are a handful of tables in the restaurant, with usually one or two filled when I go in to pick up my order. We always call our order in, which can be tricky trying to understand the heavily accented English of the person on the phone. The lunch specials are run from 11:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Saturday. They come with fried rice and your choice of wonton, hot & sour, or egg drop soup. We always get the Chicken with Garlic Sauce and the Hot and Sour Soup. Even though it is on the "hot" part of the menu, it is not hot at all. It has large pieces of chicken, with broccoli, green peppers, onions, and carrots. The sauce is a sweet, almost generic sauce, not spicy. The hot and sour soup varies from day to day, on some days it is really hot and other days not so much. The lunch comes with a fortune cookie and fried wonton crisps. There is plenty of food and after eating the soup, we eat half of the chicken with garlic sauce and save the rest for the next day. Typical Chinese takeout, good cheap eats. read more

I haven't had everything but I can tell you the Steamed Dumplings are awesome, and I love the Egg Drop Soup, especially on a cold night. Everything I've tried has been good. Got a takeout order everything was correct and hot when I picked it up. Vegetable fried rice had lots of broccoli and cabbage in it and was seasoned well. I have eaten food from here before and it was OK. Last night I ordered food and when I got home, I realized that the egg roll may have been served previously. The egg roll was dipped in the grease but was not hot and the wrapper layer was burnt and crumbling! I couldn't/wouldn't eat it. For many years I have avoided Chinese food restaurants by and large because when I did go, all too often I could not positively identify the meat as being what I ordered. New China not only serves real meat, everything else was very fresh, cooked to order and piping hot. The best tasting Chinese food at a place other than PF Changs that I have had in decades. No frozen egg rolls thrown in the fryer at this place. This is a strip mall place geared more towards takeout, but I have been twice and found it to be very good both times. read more

Best place in town to get a Chinese food lunch special! You get your entree and a cup of soups for $6 including tax. Our favorites are the Chicken Lo Mein and Sesame Chicken. Both the egg drop soup and hot and sour soup are delicious. read more

We love this place !! We could eat here every single day. I get the Curry Chicken, and my wife and children get the sweet and sour chicken. I always order online, and it gives you the option for "special instructions," mine is to make it extra spicy. They always do, and they always do it well. I highly recommend this place. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I came here due to the mixed reviews. Had to try for myself. I was beyond disgusted. This is hands down the worst Chinese food experience I have had. Frozen foods they call made fresh. Dirty dining area and kitchen. Order taker did not wash hands between taking orders and money then bagging up anything fried you might have ordered. Grease filled the bottom of the food tray and their rice that is served with the combos is just weird. Never seen yellow rice at a Chinese establishment before. Pretty good food for the price and it's quick. I've eaten here since they opened and I've never had any problems. The shrimp egg rolls and the crab rangoon are awesome. I only wish the menu had descriptions of what is in the dish because it is difficult to decide on ordering takw out food w/ friends who haven't ever had Chinese food (and they do exist) and internet searches bring up various recipes with different ingredients. read more
