My wife and I ordered delivery on 2/12/26. My wife had Sesame Chicken with Fried Rice. WIthin an hour to 2 hours after eating this, my wife became extremely ill. I called 911 on 2/13/26 and she was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital. She was extremely dehydrated and doctors determined that she was suffering from food poisoning associated with fried rice. "Fried Rice Syndrome" is the exact cause. She became sepsis when it entered her blood stream. This was a very serious illness and she spent 3 days in the hospital. MY theory is that the establishment left fried rice out too long and tried to reheat it. Problem is, this bacteria has heat resistant spores that were probably still contaminating the food. We have contacted the local health department for further follow up. We don't want anyone else to become sickened. read more

I tried this Chinese restaurant for take out for the first time. Based on this first experience, this place is a solid 4 stars. Online order was quick and easy. I ordered the Szechuan chicken and chicken with beans combos. The vegetables are good quality. The chicken also pretty good quality. The fried rice was slightly undercooked but I doubt it's consistently like that. The egg rolls were decent, not the best I've had. I think you can expect decent takeout chinese food from here. To get to 5 stars, I would have liked the food to be more flavorful. There's a good chance there is something of 5 star quality on the menu, I just haven't found it yet. read more

I've been to gatherings that would order party platters and takeout from China Kitchen, and it was all really good. I love their Lo Mein and Szechuan Chicken. This time I went with a friend to dine in for the first time. I got their Small Teriyaki Chicken which came with a side of rice. For me, I finished my rice portion quickly but the Teriyaki chicken entree was more than enough for me and I had a bunch leftovers. Went there to eat dinner after visting Southern SDA University with my aunt and uncle. Food taste great and the portions are big. The place is clean and service was excellent. And the people that work there, namely Lin are amazing. I left my fanny pack there with all of my cards and passport and was already more than an hour away at Knoxville when I realized that it was not with me and thankfully, it was still at China Kitchen and Lin has the biggest heart to meet me at almost midnight when I drove back to get back at Ooltewah, TN and everything was still in there. (3.5 stars) China Kitchen is pretty consistent with other Chinese places around here, but they do have a large selection of dishes that use artificial meat If you're a vegetarian and craving greasy Chinese, this is your best bet. I'm a meat eater but I get up vegetarian so sometimes I have a taste for it. The Mongolian artificial chicken was a little disappointing. Not because of the mock meat, but I expected it to be a bit spicy and have onion in it, which it didn't. That's always the problem with veggie dishes going by the same name as their meat counterparts, in my opinion. Though it was good, it wasn't what I expected so I was disappointed. Similar comment for the general tso's tofu: it wasn't spicy at all, but it was good. The tofu is fried and tossed in plenty of sauce. The roast bean curd with mushrooms and bamboo shoots was a little bland, BUT it had fresh mushrooms and not canned mushrooms, so that's a big plus. The vegetable mei fun is good but there's too many noodles and not enough vegetables for me. The broccoli in garlic sauce is always on point. ALWAYS! Since COVID, they are just doing takeout and they have a pretty large screen that spans most of the counter. Tiny place located directly at the end of the Tractor Supply store. If you blink you will miss it and that would be tragic, because this little place can turn out some great Chinese food! Whoever was manning the wok needs a raise because the Szechuan chicken was cooked to absolute perfection. Only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is that thought they egg rolls looked amazing, they were not the best. Very thick and doughy. Thing is...I didn't come for the egg rolls. Pretty good to adequate depending on what you order. The Lo Mein is good, as are the Fried Wontons and Moo Goo Gai pan (although I don't recall ever finding cucumbers in it any other place I've had it). The pork egg roll is adequate. The Fried Rice that comes as a side for combination orders is a total embarrassment. Service was good despite being covered up at lunchtime. read more

Not sure what to make of this place. First time ordering pick-up everything was really good. 2 weeks later I made the same order and it was completely disgusting. One the worst things I've ever experienced. I had to drive home with windows open because the stench coming from the bags was so powerful and rancid. It smelled like an overflowing restaurant garbage dumpster on a hot and humid August day with a dead dog on top. When I got home I put the bags on my driveway and opened them up see what was causing the it. I kid you not the fried rice smelled like a wet/moldy towel that was left in a plastic bag for weeks, taken out and then pissed on. This was a completely seperate smell from dumpster dead dog stench. My husband saw me on the ring cam fiddling with food and came out to check on me. "what are you doing ou... What the f is that smell it, it smells like roadkill". And then he started gagging. We put the food in 4 garbage bags and threw it right in the trash. I called the restaurant and told them but I don't think they understood. She told me to call door dash. So I did and I raged on them hard. They were very sorry and offered me $120 in credit plus 1 year free if I don't cancel. That's how hard I raged on them. I don't understand how they could hand me that bag of "food" and say have a nice day. How could they not smell it? That's the scary part. I never found out what the source of the dumpster dead dog smell but it was most likely general tsos chicken. What the hell is going on in that kitchen... Unbelievable. read more

The lunch special is a fantastic deal which they offer every day they're open (I think they're closed on Saturdays). Seems as though the reviews are inconsistent, and that was my experience too. Ordered Szechuan chicken and it came out bland and slimy, and I was expecting a nice spicy dish. Had to fix whatever "sauce" they poured on top at home. We also got free cheese wontons since we were over the $30 bonus thing. The egg roll from the meal was AMAZING, it was the best one we tasted from the whole lot. Fresh, crunchy, and the veggies were good. The rest (they clearly used different egg rolls for appetizers) seemed kinda old, and the roast pork one had a weird bright pink "meat" inside? I couldn't finish it, it just tasted weird and somehow floral? The cheese wontons were delicious and sweet. The fried rice was pretty good. The lo mein was also pretty good, but I think they used the wrong noodles? They look more like spaghetti than the lo mein I've ordered at other places. The Black pepper chicken and veggies was at least seasoned, so that was good. Overall, the prices are tempting enough to make me go back, but be very picky about what I order and be prepared to fix it at home. The food itself isn't that good, sorry to say. It's a family shop and they seem to try to cut corners for people who might not know the difference. Last note, this was the day after Christmas, so I'm guessing they mess up when there's a lot of orders going out. First off let me just say this place has been around for 15 plus years in the small town of collegedale. I would go to this place everyday after a hard days work and still do when i am in the area. They have reasonable lunch specials. The servings are huge heaping plates. The restaurant interior lobby could use some love however the food makes up for the lobby. As far as Chinese fast food goes, this is the best I have ever had anywhere in the US. I haven't had a dish here that I didn't like. The lunch specials are around $5 which includes an entree, white/brown or fried rice, an egg roll or drink. The portion sizes are very generous. Also, the vegi chicken is excellent. If you are a vegetarian or a meat eater alike, I would recommend sweet and sour vegi chicken or general tso's tofu. But almost everything you get should be great. The one thing I wished they would change were the egg rolls. They tend to be mostly cabbage with too much wrap. They are decent but nothing to get excited about. It seems like this place never closes. It's so good my family got it for take-out on Christmas. Service is always exceptionally fast and the food is always prepared fresh.
