Their sauces and the egg foo young were very good. The general tso chicken was awful, stringy and seriously overcooked. Won't be going back

We ordered general tsos, chicken kung pao, and sweet and sour chicken. We just moved here and trying to find a good Chinese delivery place. I have to say very little was good. Firstly, we ordered delivery off their website. I ASSUME they use DoorDash or similar bc our food that was delivered 45 minutes later was lukewarm at best. But okay, we will heat it up. Not a HUGE deal but annoying. Heated up food not great. Sweet and sour chicken was okay - how can you really mess that up. General tsos chicken was edible. Sauce was traditional and good. The fried rice looked and tasted like yellow rice microwave pouches from the grocery store and had no flavor. The kung pao chicken was NOT traditional KPC. Sauce had no flavor and was certainly not traditional. Chicken was boring. Spring rolls had to be the most tasteless I've ever had. Not sure how this has any stars, frankly. The Bourbon Chicken was overcooked, tough, and inedible. $15 wasted on Door Dash. If I had been there in person I could have shown them that it was like rubber. When I couldn't eat it I gave it to someone else and they couldn't eat one bite. So we gave it to our possums. I hope they can eat it. We will know in the morning. We love food from different nationalities but there is a point where I just won't go places anymore. This Chinese restaurant skimps on their stuffed foods like dumplings and ragoons where you pretty much get all wrapped and very, very little filling. They also do not understand English and get confused easily. I asked if they could tell me what vegetables they keep stocked and they thought I was asking for a fully itemized list of all menu items and what they contained. They then preceded to have a not so nice conversation in their native language in front of me while staring at me rather angrily...I just asked what vegetables were available. No one should not be treated like that and because of the poor food quality, their inability to understand their customers, and the rudeness with which they treat customers, we can not recommend them nor will we return again. read more

Chinese places all look the same to me. I don't mean that in any kind of racial manner either! Strip mall, few tables, order at the counter, and listen to the scratch of the woks as they go to work. I will say this place works fast. Less than 6 minutes from order to food in hand. That's a plus of course, but what about the taste? That's where the stars come in. Most taste pretty much similar as well. If you mess it up you get 1 Star. If you taste like all the others, you get three stars for being average. I've only been to one or two that make it to 4 stars because you really need to do something different. China Rose gets one for their chicken in garlic sauce combo. That's all I've tried so far. Bland. No heat. Very little flavor and the chicken is a bit "mushy". The fried rice was yellow but sure didn't taste like fried rice. Terrible flavor. The egg roll was mostly empty. Not sure even what was supposed to be in it besides more egg roll wrapper. Believe it or not, it's not the worst I've had but close enough that It's unlikely I'll try anything else on the menu. Stopped by today on my way back to Cleveland. I had a hard time making the clerk understand what I wanted. It was an easy order. I want an order of shrimp and lobster sauce and an order of pork fried rice. I did not get the order of pork fried rice I wanted. I got it instead of the white rice I should have gotten with the shrimp and lobster sauce and I was charged for it. What a poor excuse for fried rice. The pork was slithered, tiny tiny pieces of pork. And they are only a few pieces. Fried rice was greasy. If a Chinese restaurant cannot make good fried rice they should close. I haven't eaten the shrimp yet but wonder what it will be like. read more

Nice little restaurant located in the Bilo shopping center. There is plenty parking as you choose about how far or close you want. The customer service was fast as they brought my order out within two minutes. Their sweet tea is not southern. It's more like Chinese sweet tea. So, I got a coke instead and was happy with that. The food is 3 stars because I think they need to cook it a little longer. My meat could have been a little more tender but I still liked it. The rice and broccoli, well I like both a more softer. I really appreciate their special vegetarian menu that's full of great dishes. It's also great that they offer an artificial chicken. I prefer the artificial chicken over the tofu but my wife prefers the tofu. The food always comes out quickly, my order has always been accurate and the nice young lady that works the counter is always very friendly. read more

I never post reviews but this place seriously has the best Chinese food. Coming from Atlanta, Georgia, i thought i had already experienced the best takeout Chinese food for an affordable price, but this place surprised me. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra $1 for white sauce- it's soooo worth it. I really would recommend the crab rangoons and sesame chicken. Super crispy and not too greasy. I got an order to go. The food was fast and still steaming when I got home. I ordered the chicken lo mein and my wife had the artificial chicken and broccoli. The food lacked flavor and substance. There was no egg in the fried rice, but corn? The cream cheese wontons have onions in them, which was also confusing. My wife ended up throwing her food away. Overall, meh. read more

Nasty. Just plain nasty. The food was hot but it was all generic food. The general Tso was chicken frozen and fried and tossed in a sweet sauce. The pepper steak was awful. The chicken wings were sooooo gross. It was old freeze dried chicken. It was horrible. The lo main was soggy noodles. And let's not even talk about the fried rice. We haven't been here for a while and will not go back. First of all no Air conditioner only 2 ceiling fans going. When it's 95 degrees outside this doesn't cut it. You where sweating as you where eating your dinner. ( never again) The meal was lukewarm and came out too quick. I believe it was re-heated vs. freshly cooked. There are way too many restaurants in Ooltewah now to have an experience like this, but we thought we would go back to visit China Rise again. BAD choice ! I've had bad Chinese take-out, but I've never had a Chinese take-out meal so bad that I felt compelled to write a bad review about it. Until now. I ordered delivery. The hotel where I'm staying has a menu for China Rose in the rooms. The young lady who delivered the food had no change. None. She got a large tip because she couldn't make change and I was in a hurry. The food is awful. The beef in my beef and vegetables is raw. Not rare. Raw. We keep shopping around to find that perfect little "hole in the wall" Chinese restaurant. This was not it. They were not friendly, as well, the table was very sticky, felt dirty. During our entire meal a man and woman were arguing loudly in the kitchen the entire time. The room temperature was also quite warm... I was sweating! While trying to find good Chinese food, I have always seen China Rose but never tried it. Today was my first experience. It was friendly and had quick service/preparation. I ordered House Lo Mein (Good.It had a good amount of meat), chicken wings ( I didn't care for the chicken wings. The coating was very hard. I did , however, like that the tips of the wings were cut off. We moved here last April and I have yet found chicken wings as our local chicken wings at our favorite Chinese place back there. They were more marinated with infused flavor and a light crunchy skin - almost like a broasted style ), Crab Rangoon (I really, really liked the Rangoon. They were fried to a very light crispiness. I would definitely order them again) and fried wontons (Here is where why I rated just OK. The fried wontons were not crispy at all. They were grease soaked and stuck in a clump together. I didn't care for the pork filling. That could be just my taste preference). All in all just OK - But maybe it was an off day - Maybe next time would be better. read more

Only thing better than this place is an actual sit-down Chinese restaurant, but as far as Chinese takeout goes, this is the place to eat! My wife and I have eaten here at least twice a month for the past couple years. We love their General Tso chicken! Their bourbon chicken is great too! I used to frequent China Kitchen, another Chinese takeout about five minutes away, and is closer to the school I attended. Then a friend of mine took me to China Rose. I asked him what's the point of going farther away, even if it is only five minutes, to get the same food? To my surprise, and good surprise, the food here is better than China Kitchen's! My usual dish is their General Tso chicken, and you can definitely tell the difference in both quality of flavor and texture! I did notice that Rose gave me more fried rice than chicken, and is vice-versa for Kitchen. My friend said it's a matter of quality over quantity. How true that is! I went back to Kitchen to try their General Tso chicken months after I gave Rose my full business, and the meal was just not up to par with Rose. I feel sorry for the reviewer K.K. and his/her experience. I've never had a problem with their food or service, although I have never had them deliver to me. The prices are very affordable, as you get a lot for what you pay for. Their lunch special is the best! $6 for a lot of food! I know I said earlier that they give you more rice than chicken, but lately I've noticed it's about 50/50 now. Still, even if it was more rice than chicken, I'd still keep coming back! If you like good Chinese food and want it convenient to Ooltewah, prepared quickly and the convenience of ordering from your iPad or phone this is the place. My family and I have had a couple of bad customer service experiences on different occasions at this restaurant. This was the reason why we had chosen not to eat here for several years. We decided to try it again recently. When I went today, I gave my order clearly. However, they gave me a different dish than what I had requested. When I explained that this was not what I ordered and that I didn't want it, they got annoyed and blamed me saying that that is what I should have asked for in the first place (which I did). The food at this restaurant is ok (not great), and the customer service is so bad that I have no desire to go back again. There is much better food and service elsewhere! It is fast food Chinese. It is very inexpensive and for the price it is decent. I would recommend if your wanting average and inexpensive.

WORST experience ever. This is the first time I've ever gone out of my way to write a review for any establishment online, so that should tell you how angry I am. First, I placed my order for sweet and sour chicken with white rice and a small order of crab rangoons. The food came out, and the cashier said "4 vegetable egg rolls." I responded that I ordered rangoons instead of egg rolls. She rudely snapped "Well I didn't hear crab rangoons, I heard vegetable egg rolls" and refused to fix my order. I was a little shocked, but decided to let it go and avoid making a scene. I got home and got the rest of my food out. The rice was fried even though I was careful to specify that I wanted plain white, and the bowl that was supposed to have chicken only had the red sweet and sour sauce. There was no chicken or vegetables in either package. I am furious that I wasted my time and money and not one single portion of my order was correct. I will not be back to China Rose, and I would advise anyone else to steer clear as well. read more
