    Sea Dog

I want to like this spot for their good sandwich combinations but execution was lacking. Bread was tough to the bite and the foundation of a sandwich heavily relies on the bread. Because of the difficulty, sandwich contents would fall apart before I could actually tear the sandwich. I got the Sea Dog with a brownie on the side. Sea Dog Sandwich with Smoked Bacon - added some bacon cause why not and actually really liked the smoked flavor. The Sea Dog is a classic tuna sandwich and has some avocado for a fatty, creamy enhancement. Contents were great but again, the bread was tough to bite and this meant my sandwich fell apart with each bite with the crust still in tact. Peruvian Chocolate Manifesto Brownie - a fairly large and chocolately brownie but not dense at all so I'm conflicted about how to feel. The chocolate chips were rich but the brownie as a whole was a bit disappointing and almost dry?

Tried Farmers market veggie sandwich- 2/5. ordered for delivery. Ordered wheat bread but got white bread. Didn't have most of the veggies that appeared on Yelp pictures. No flavor, for $10 you are getting a bland salad without dressing between 2 pieces of bread. Avoid.

I'm a sandwich type of guy and love to try many deli places. Erik's Deli is a popular sandwich shop and there's many locations all over the bay area. I ordered the Erik "Berger:" Meat - Smoked ham sandwich with a peppered onion roll with Monterey jack cheese, and Erik's "Secret Goo". Veggies - Slivered red onion, fresh tomato, and locally grown sprouts. All the fresh meat and ingredients made me enjoy every bite. The staff was friendly and the order was ready so quick!

Barely any Turkey on this Rio Grande Club. Scared to see what the other sandwich will look like as it's for someone who works night shift and I won't know until they tell me. For $22 and change on two sandwiches and bags of chips that's ridiculous. Employees are very nice. Not sure if they are being instructed to use less meat, but it's happening and it's disappointing. Definitely not worth the gallon of gas at $6.49 to get there.

Pilgrim's Progress - turkey on 9-grain wheat bread

Not a bad place to grab a bite in this shopping plaza. "Sandwiches with character" is the slogan, though I would argue there's nothing unique about these sandwiches except their names. The $7 Pilgrim's Progress is an enjoyable sandwich with turkey, avocado, onions, tomatoes, sprouts, mayo and mustard on 9-grain wheat bread. It also comes with a pickle and a slice of orange. The ingredients tasted fresh, I was glad to see several layers of meat in the sandwich, though as a whole it was only moderately filling. For the price, the portion size was fair. But I don't know what this sandwich has to do with the John Bunyan novel by the same name. I certainly don't remember there being turkeys in that story. Perhaps there's something about this sandwich related to persistence through adversity or treasures in heaven that I'm missing.

Working their butts off but it looked like a tornado hit!

Not an afterthought, not stale by noon--fresh, crackly, and actually worthy of building a sandwich around. Add in Boar's Head meats, crisp lettuce, properly ripe tomatoes (rare these days), and quality sliced cheeses, and suddenly you're wondering why every deli can't get this right. Everything tastes intentional. Clean, fresh, no shortcuts. And don't skip the soups. Today's beef chili was rich, hearty, and exactly what you want when Palo Alto decides to pretend it has seasons. It's not flashy. No gimmicks. Just a really well-executed deli that quietly does everything right--which, honestly, is harder to find than it should be.

Their breakfast sandwiches are just as customizable and satisfying as their lunch menu. Speaking of sandwiches -- the menu is seriously impressive. You're not stuck with a standard combo. They offer multiple bread choices, a variety of cheeses, and different spreads so you can build exactly what you're craving. It feels elevated compared to a typical deli. The chip selection is a standout -- more than 10 flavors of Kettle Brand chips, plus guac and salsa chips. If you like options, you'll appreciate the variety. And the drink selection? Packed. Soft drinks, a wide range of local beers, and more choices than most convenience stores. On top of that, they serve café drinks and Dreyer's ice cream -- so you can grab coffee, lunch, snacks, and dessert all in one stop. Clean, well-stocked, and clearly run with attention to detail. Definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to.

I ordered the Godfather, which is supposed to be their specialty, and it was very disappointing. The meats seemed old, extremely fatty, and so chewy that I was unable to swallow them. Every meat on the sandwich was fatty, including the mortadella, which was unusually greasy and unlike anything I've seen before. The texture made the sandwich very unpleasant to eat. It also made me question whether the meats had been stored properly, though I can't say for sure. The bread was average and didn't seem very fresh either. Maybe going later in the day means the ingredients have been sitting too long, but either way, this sandwich was difficult to enjoy and ended up in the trash.

Hence why I stopped here one warm late afternoon despite having lots of food options in this downtown-y area. The Godfather ($15ish/5*) When I first try a deli I will usually try their Italian combo. It's a classic sub I love but honestly I find it hard to find an above average one. I'm not sure if the art of making one has been lost, but within the last decade or so, I strike out more than I get hits. Usually the meat to bread to produce ratio is off. Sometimes the meats are too salty/poor quality. Other times the sauce/dressing flavor is off. I am so stoked that I found a legit one here. They use prosciutto, mortadella and salami here, all my faves. I hate when a place uses American ham/cheese on an Italian sub. And all the meats are of quality, not too salty at all. Provolone was the cheese, textbook. I chose a sourdough roll and even though requires a good amount of teeth strength to bite off a piece and to chew, it was pretty damn satisfying. The interior is soft yet chewy. They definitely use a solid bread company. The bites were what I consider to be classic Italian sub flavors. No curve balls like pesto, red peppers or strong mustard. Just quality meats with great textures, fresh produce dressed in oil n' vinegar so it taste like a good salad. And the kicker that pleasantly surprised me were chunks of marinated artichoke hearts so this made you feel like biting into an antipasto platter just in sandwich form. So Damn Solid. Italian Sausage Sandwich ($15ish/4*). Even though solid I didn't love this as much as the cold sub. They ask what type of sausage mild or hot Italian. Chose hot, no surprise. They said this will take longer to make, like about 10 minutes. I chose a regular sweet French roll for this. Not as chewy as the sourdough roll, much softer but still has body. I liked the flavors of warm marinara with their unique sausage, quite classic once again. But the sausage they use is super thick like twice as thick as a common Italian sausage link. They do split it so it covers the bread but that sausage is one of the firmest textures I've ever had for a sausage. Sausage by nature because of the grind usually bites easily. Not here, I had to bite so hard that the meat couldn't stay in the bread. I think the casing was unusually tough for some reason. I eventually peeled it off. Decent flavors but problematic to eat cleanly. $35+ (after T&T) for 2 sandwiches seems pricey but really it is the new reality. 10 years ago this would have been about $20ish. Welcome to the new world order. Lol
