I had been trying for about two years to get someone to remove and replace the damaged glass mosaic tiles that decorated my pool above the waterline. I reached out to at least half a dozen companies but usually didn't even receive a reply. When I finally found Erik Johnson Tile, all that changed. Erik returned my call, came out to assess the project and gave me very useful feedback - sizes of tiles to look at, places to shop, and what would give me the most durable finish while meeting my design style. Communication with Erik, by phone, text or email, was reliable and quick, as was that with his office staff and the tile installer. I was always informed about where we were in the project and what to expect next. On the day, Camilo removed the glass and installed the new porcelain ceramic tiles. He was courteous, thorough, professional and an absolute artist at cutting and placing the tiles. He was also extremely careful with the pool structure itself, and left it and the surrounding area cleaner than it had been when he'd arrived. The landscaping, lighting and drip system in the area were also kept protected and undamaged. I cannot express the difference in my attitude towards my pool now. The cracked and stained glass is gone, and instead I have a sleek, modern look I know has been professionally installed and will be durable for years. Sounds like this is basically the only business in town for redoing pool tile issues. Erik came out & gave an estimate citing ivory tile for a spillover tile repair-- & showing me a pic on his phone. We were scheduled with no written estimate received or any other written communication. We got a call 2 days ahead & the person did come to do the work, but did not notify us as requested by 20-30' ahead so we could move our dog inside as the person requested. The tile Mason did not communicate with anyone home in the house when leaving. There were 0 instructions about when we could turn the pool filter back on, or asking what we thought of the job. The tile that was placed was not like what I was shown, which appeared to be a white/cream with some shimmer/iridescence to it. Later, when emailing an invoice (which I had to call & gave them my email when asking about the pool system going back on...) the tile is labeled 'tan' not at all the white that was quoted to me. I'm pretty furious but am walking away because I do not have time or energy to deal with it. The office staff said the tile mason/employee usually leaves a note about timing of the pool filter & also usually asks for a check before leaving. We also wanted to know if there were any other issues underneath when they removed the existing grout & tile--but there was no communication. It seems it would also be helpful for greater communication & documentation to have verified photos or samples of the tile they intend to use instead of showing a cell phone pic that isn't reviewable later. I also texted the # that Erik had called from when coming by for the estimate re: the pool filter timing going on for our spillover, & noted that I was disappointed in the tile because it was not what I was shown. I never received a call back. I guess if you're the only one around then it is easy to just not care what customers think. I contacted a few companies to give me a quote on some tile work. I was happy to get a call back from this company the Monday following my Friday request and then a call from Erik shortly after saying he could come by within 20 minutes. He then texted a couple minutes later to say something is taking him the other way. No problem on my end. I text him the next day and then the following day with no response. I call the main line the following day and was told he was sick. Okay, no problem that happens. I call back to inquire the next week and am told he is back at work and he'll call me that afternoon or the next day. Two days later I call back and am told he is in the back and someone will call back in a few minutes . . . the afternoon went on. Next morning, still no call. Very frustrated. I'm not even a customer yet. Leaving this review to get their attention. I'll remove if given a call and quote as requested. This business should at least let potential customers know it'll be a while rather than leaving them on the hook waiting for a call back. **Edited 8/16** Got a call from Erik this morning with an ask to come out a few hours after the call. That time period came and went. Texted around 1pm, he read the text message. Again no reply. Called the office. Promised the same bullshit "Oh I'll call you back in a few minutes" and as you can guess, never got a call. Called Erik many more times until he finally picked up and was told some lame excuse about losing paperwork and not knowing how to contact me. Do better. Not removing this review. Came in today to see if they had blue swimming pool tile to replace for the pool. I told him I need 3 3x3 pieces. Eric and I went out to the yard he showed me the ones I needed. Erik Johnson Tile redid my pool and spa with glass tile at the waterline. I was working with a pool contractor, Natural Pools, who hired Erik Johnson Tile for this part of the remodel. A few months after the remodel, my tiles started popping off. I researched this problem and discovered there needs to be a joint betweent the tile and the deck to allow for movement. The charge for the joint and sealer is $5. a running foot. Originally this was not installed because the pool contractor did not include it in his bid so it would be lower than his competitors. Once I discovered this was the problem, Erik Johnson Tile added the joint at the customary cost and replaced the tiles that were loose or had fallen off at no charge. Now my pool looks beautiful. The workmanship Erik Johnson Tile did was excellent and I am now enjoying my Summer. read more

We had a fairly small job for Erik to correct for us. The tile on the top of the wall between the spa and pool had come loose over time. We had him out for a quote last week and he said he would try to fit us in since he was so busy during the summer. A few days later they gave us a call and came out last Friday and within 4 hours the job was done and the tile and grout look magnificent. I would recommend his team at any time. read more

When they had completed the work on my backyard garden walls, I was not completely satisfied with the work. I called for an estimate to retile my pool and spa. Kirk said he would call me to set an appointment during their next trip to my area, which he said they were in every week. Two weeks later hadn't heard from them. Called 2 more times. The office said they would have him call. Now two more weeks have passed, no call. I don't know why anyone would use a contractor if they struggle to get them out to estimate a job. God forbid some issue comes up after completion and full payment. We hired Erik Johnson tile to do the tile, waterfall, and rockwork for our owner-builder pool in Roseville. I went into the showroom early in the morning before work to choose tile samples and look at the different options for rock types. Erik showed me several different options and sent me on my way with tiles samples, so I could bring them home to my wife. To make a long story short, the waterfall and tile were exactly what we wanted! They completed the work quickly, and they responded quickly when there was a small leak in the waterfall that needed to be repaired in order to pass inspection. My new pool was several years old and I never really liked the tile. Plus the original tile guys did a poor job of installing it. His guys came out and had it not been for the rain, would have had it done in a day. It looks great and added a higher end look. We had a great experience with Erik Johnson Tile last fall! Erik was such a pleasure to deal with and his company does exceptional work! Our new pool is built into a hill and had a lot of blank stucco walls that we felt needed some stonework to help the landscaping have a more natural feel. Erik came out and gave us recommendations on our stone facade choices. He explained the positives and negatives to each option. He recommended a natural quartzite since part of the stone would be the backdrop to a waterfall and would have constant water flowing down upon the stone. There were a few areas around the pool entrance that needed retaining walls built with the stone facade, as well. Erik suggested that we make them 18" tall with a nice stone coping on top, making some pool-side bench seating. Great idea! Extra seating and a place to set down a beverage! Erik had me go to his showroom to pick out the color and style of the quartzite. It ended up being exactly what I envisioned. Susan, in the office, was very sweet and also a pleasure to deal with in the showroom and also over the phone. Once the project was underway everything went very smoothly! Erik's crew was very meticulous and tidy and cleaned up well and swept after each day of work. Julio, the main tile mason, was very professional and he made a couple of great suggestions, as well. It had just been raining the day before, and he noticed an area where the bark was washing into the pool that we had not even realized. He suggested to continue the wall a couple of more feet to close off the area. That completely headed off what could have have been a big issue before the rainy season came along. Last week, I noticed a couple of stone tile pieces were loose at the bottom of one of the walls. To be expected with almost 1,000 square feet of stone tile installed. I gave Erik a call and he called me back the same day. He had Susan call me right away to let me know that Julio would be out the next day to make the repair and I didn't need to be there as long as the back gate was open. Well that was easy! Overall, we could not be happier! The backyard is completely transformed and it looks Beautiful! We highly recommend Erik Johnson tile! read more

Had pool tile replaced in winter and it appeared to have turned out nice. Then when the water got warm in the spring and we finally got into the pool, further examination of the tile job revealed a grout job that was a little bit sloppy. We weren't going to make a big deal out of it, but I did want the owner to see it and called. He emailed me back and said that one of his best tile guys did the job. It was as if he didn't believe me, but said he would come by to take a look. I said to let me know when and I would leave the side gate open. Never heard back from him. Don't know if he came by to look. We'll live, but my recommendation for anyone considering a tile job is to make sure you shop around and VISUALLY inspect previous jobs and talk to customers. Not happy. When they replaced the tile on our pool spa, they said the tile would never fall off, but if we had a problem, just call them and they would come out and make it right. When the tile pieces started to pop off, I called. They said it would cost $120. for them to come out. I asked to speak to somebody higher up in the company. I sent pictures, emails, and made phone calls but nobody has ever called us back. I waited a month, so now I'm writing this review. I should also add that his prices were much higher than the other quotes we had, but I paid the extra cost because he guaranteed his work and the other reviews looked favorable. I would like to see reviews from past work, rather than one day after the job is complete and everything looks great. read more

If there was a zero star option, I would use it. This company did the tile and flagstone work on my pool as a sub contractor for Sage Pools. Don't use Sage pools either! That is another review. First of all the flagstone used for my pool deck was too rough in a lot of areas. This happened because they were in too much of a rush too properly pick the individual stones.They ended up grinding some of the stones, but not enough. On one long area of outer edge of the pool, they left grout or thin set on the rock instead of wiping it off before it dried. They applied a sloppy coat of 'Wet look' sealer to the rock deck and pool tile. The used a roller for the deck and left little puddles of sealer in various spots. Eventually these spots turned white. The sealer label clearly states that all excess should be removed or it will turn white. The pool tile was the worst. They used a brush to apply it it and left numerous drips that hardened on the tile. These turned white pretty quick since they were partially submerged in the water. Lastly, several of the tops of the flagstones completely flaked off. Now over a long period of time and numerous phones calls, I tried to get these problems resolved or some the stones replaced. I got a lot of excuses such as my file was misplaced. Most of my calls wouldn't be returned. A VERY COMMON THEME IN A LOT OF POSTED REVIEWS. So finally Kirk came out. Both times that Kirk finally came out, he would simply try to explain everything away so the wouldn't have to do any repair work and save a dime. Statements such as all of this white stuff on the tile and stone is due too lack of maintenance. The tops of the flagstone on my pool deck flakes off too. It's natural. We don't know where is it was quarried. That still doesn't mean it can't be replaced. I even had my own flagstones pieces to use. I also have the same flagstone in other areas that never fell apart like that. I had to basically pin him down on the fact, that all the white stains were in round drip and puddle patterns due to excess sealer. He couldn't talk his way out, so he agreed to send someone out to remove all of the white stains from the excess sealer. These stains were on most of the pool tiles. I drained the pool down below the tile. When the employee should up he said that Kirk told him to only do a few individual tiles. I wouldn't accept that answer so I helped the employee do all of the stains. We ended up removing the majority of them. Which again proves it was the sealer and not maintenance. I can't stand a business that just doesn't try to work with the customer and make things right form the beginning. Their time time and energy would be much better spent trying to simply do a better job. read more

I don't normally like to post negative reviews, because we are all human and make mistakes but sadly this one cut's the cake! I have a gunite pool not quite 3 years old, my pool contractor used Erik Johnson Tile. Sadly my pool developed a leak already. My pool contractor - great guy by the way - Mike @ American Pools Folsom is going to have the tile company fix the pool for me for free. I called johnson tile to schedule my appointment last week and the lady who answered the phone was a little nasty so I mentioned it to her and she was apologetic - Susan was her name. She said the technician was on vacation and she would call me the following week the day before they come out. The week is already almost to the end so I called Susan to check in. She again was very nasty and began to go on and on about how busy they are and they will get to me when they get to me. I felt unsettled with that answer and I could barely get a word in edge wise because she continued to go on and on and on over and over about how busy they are. I was surprised how she could not get off that subject. I empathize because it's their busy time of the year but most customer's don't want to keep hearing how busy you are they just want help, that's why they are calling. I politely shared this with her and she blew her lid, I am not kidding; started yelling at me. I asked her if she always treats customers this way and she hung up. I am in complete shock; first that they would allow their technician to go on vacation during their busiest time of the year, second; that she treats people this way and takes no responsibility for it. She needs the vacation it sounds like! I let some time go by during the day and thought I would attempt to call back to get this rectified so I can get my leak fixed. After all, we are in a drought and my pool is leaking water in the ground. Not good. I called back and asked to speak with the owner Erik, when I mentioned my name she flip again and said they are not going to fix my pool - no way shape or form, and she has already told the owner about me. I guess she feels I am the rude one. Wow... so disappointing. Don't think I will EVER do business with this company again. At this point I don't have a choice because of my pool contractor; who by the way called me and apologized stating that he will deal with Erik Johnson tile and make sure my pool get's fixed. Had an estimate done by Erik who was friendly and seemed knowledgeable with the repairs needing to be done with the cracked tile. HOWEVER, when they worker showed up he was short about 15 tiles (we had already drained the pool a significant amount and couldn't have the pool equipment running etc) and were told that he wouldn't have time to run back to the showroom and complete the job that day and I would need to call to reschedule. The worker gave me the number to call and that's when I was introduced to the supervisor, Kirk. He told me he "couldn't deal with me" because he had a truck that had broken down and doubted I would be able to be "put on the schedule for weeks". He said he would call back in half an hour. Never heard from him. Still am amazed by his lack of professionalism. Ended having the old tiles put back on since we didn't want to have to leave our pool drained. I called and emailed several times to discuss our experience and the fact that the job that was done was not what the bid was for. No one ever returned my call UNTIL we stopped payment on the check. Finally spoke to Erik who told me I called the wrong number and should have called him-felt like he was somehow trying to blame me when it was his worker who gave me the number to call. Erik did say he would come back out and remove all the time and put on the 6x6 tile we have initially agreed on. We aren't willing to drain the pool way down again or potentially having to deal with Kirk again. I wish I would have read the Yelp reviews before going ahead and choosing them to do the project. read more

I would strongly suggest you find another company to do your tile. First they do not order enough supplies to finish your job I waited three weeks before I finally had to call to see when they would finish. They do not take credit cards cash or check only. When my job was to be finished I had to be out of town I told the lady I would be leaving cash in an envelope by the pool so the worker did not have to bug my sister watching my children. The job was done I left the money three weeks later I got a phone call from them saying I had not paid my bill. I explained to the lady who I had told I was leaving cash that I had left it right by our spa in an envelope with their name on it. No one else was at my home or in the backyard. She said oh I'm sure it was given to the owner. Well I got a call back saying no he didn't have it. So now I'm out over 1000.00 dollars the next day I get a nasty call from the owner telling me he's going to put a lien on my place. I told him I had already talked to his office the money has disappeared and that I would have to pay at the end of the month due to the other money being taken. No apology no work out details even though their worker was the only one at my home. I would not trust this company at all..... BEWARE read more
