I wish it wasn't so far. I was excited to try the Barbie smoothie, Edwin was awesome and had opinions on some smoothies. Love a knowledgeable, friendly staff. I placed my order and got in line for the cafe. I could already see things I've never seen before. And when I say line, if you're a regular, you know they can be a lot at times. This was staggered and painless. Leti helped me. That ladies a treasure, give her a raise! We sampled and made things happen. First time having the beef chili, pork ribs and chicken enchiladas! All 3 are worth it!!! Now that I'm saying this I'm recalling they do sell the chili in the soup section. I'm getting some, stat! The ribs - I'm a pit mistress, I live for the bbq flavor and attributes specific to putting your food over hot coals/flavored wood. I also know bbq = carcinogens and things that aren't great, even when using well sourced meats. That being said, the ribs were baked and dressed in Erewhon bbq sauce. So just for the fact that I know theirs are also well sourced and not full of the things that make traditional bbq problematic, I'd repeat them with no convincing. The chicken enchilada was also outta this world. Leti appreciated them too. I looked in produce for the strawberries I found in W. Hollyhood but no joy. William H checked me out. Another rockstar! I've had repeated issues at this specific location with inconsistent kitchen hours. Most recently, I placed an order for a pizza at 8:14 PM, knowing that the hot bar and café are listed as closing at 8:30 PM. Despite ordering in advance and within the posted hours, I was told the kitchen had already stopped taking orders. What's frustrating is that this isn't the first time--it seems to happen consistently at this location, while other locations operate as expected. There appears to be a disconnect between the hours advertised online and what is actually being followed in-store. This Erewhon location is located in Manhattan Gateway, a busy plaza with plenty of shared parking. I came to try their strawberry glaze skin smoothies (the infamous Hailey Bieber one), as well as their matcha and coffee. You can order these at the Tonic Bar, and they have 2 iPads or you can speak directly to an employee. They also had hot foods and pastry. The smoothies definitely tasted refreshing and smooth, and you can tell the quality is there. For hot foods, I tried their classic mac & cheese, and their poke bowl. Heard there was a local Erewhon that opened up in the area, so I had to catch a visit. Basically, it's a health food conscience grocery store. There's a store greeter at the entrance that says hello to every customer as they walk in. The checkout is on the right hand side and loose fresh fruit and vegetables on the left hand side. What I noticed right away were the fresh nuts packaged in glass mason jars. As I walked through the store, same theme. Many snack items sold in glass mason jars. Milk and eggs sold in refrigerators on the side wall. When I walked to the back of the store, there was a long line of people at the food counter. The premade salads looked really good behind the counter. They sell refrigerated desserts, cakes, and pies that looked pretty tasty. Prices are high compared to other grocery stores. So if you want to pay 3 times or more for groceries, this is the place to shop. There are a handful of tables outside if you feel like enjoying your food or drink there. Personally, I've been coming to Erewhon ever since it first opened at its original Los Angeles location. Meaning, I have watched the evolution of this food store and witnessed how it has expanded from simply being a heath food store onto a pop culture phenomenon. This incarnation of Erewhon is a very modern location. It's aisles are all very well organized and it is stocked full of all of the natural and what I would call non-natural items that this chain of stores is noted for. They have a lot of stuff! If you want to buy some groceries, or all of the things that it takes to make a great meal, this may be your location to shop. Keep in mind, for those of us who knew the Erewhon of old, this is not the vegetarian/macrobiotic health food store it once was. A lot of their products are made with not completely wholesome ingredients. This isn't a judgment, this is just something you should probably keep in mind when you come here. Times have changed. More than just a supermarket, however, this Erewhon offers a lot of great pre-made food items. They have a really nice café area, where you get their famous smoothies, and all kinds of other things. Thus, if you need to go in and buy a pre-made meal, this may be your place to pick it up. Some people complain about the price that Erewhon. All I can say is, Erewhon is one of those stores that if you have to ask the price, it's probably not for you. That said, the lines at the hot food and café sections were pretty long, and I didn't have enough time to wait before my flight. Prices are definitely on the higher side, which is expected, but still something to keep in mind. This was definitely the most chill Erewhon that I've been to. The other locations are really busy and it can take a while to get your smoothie while you shop. We tried some of the limited smoothies and they were great as always. I decided to try the pizza this visit. It was so good, the Pepperoni's were crisp. It had a light char in some spots underneath, and the crust was very thin like a New York slice. The crust was had a nice chew to it. Well, Erewon has finally opened in the South Bay and it'd literally 3-5 minutes drive for me. I waited few weeks after it's grand opening before I dare to stop in. I've been semi stopping at Erewon for years ago when they opened up in Abbot Kinney. This was before all the celebritie's smoothie was even a hot topic because I stop for one two things only. 1.) The Erewon carbonated Spring water for about $3 and 2.) Sun Chorella supplements. Now they are easier to access to so I do not have to drive to LA which I do only seldomly. So, it's not just because for it's high end name, there are items that you can shop around for and you have to do weigh out the pro items and leave out the over exaggerated items like the celebrity's smoothie, etc. Here's a breakdown of a few items I get here. I'm not exaggerating when I say, Erewon brand spring water has exceptional purity and taste. Not the $25 dollars jug everyone's talking about but the $3 glass jar 16.8 oz ones. Sun Chlorella immune support supplements ( the chlorella green algae supplement that is in the Travis Baker's smoothie) ( FYI, The prices are more here then getting on Amazon) I got the salmon and avocado roll for $14 THE SUSHI RICE WAS NOT COOKED ALL THE WAY! IT WAS HARD, BLAND, AND UNDERCOOK! I had to just dig out the salmon and cucumber and eat the little pieces of salmon and throw the rice away, what a total waste of my money and inconvenient. Juice shots are pretty expensive at $6-$7 but it comes in a small glass jar and it's at its most purity. Also check out Erewon brand candles and lotions. They are definitely worth the money as they have same quality compared to brands like Aesop and L'occitane. They are equivalent to Aesop quality but for a lower price. Tube of hand cream is $20 vs Aesop over $30. I caved in and finally tried a strawberry probiotic smoothie for $22. .. well for $22 it's definitely not worth it. It's expensive because other than using coconut milk/ almond milk, they also added different kind of supplement powder to your drinks which made the drinks unpleasant to taste and digest if you are not used to protein or supplement powders in your drink. The ambiance is nice, clean and upscale. Avoid coming on the weekend due to crowds. They have some table and chairs outside if you wanted to eat there. Random trip to SoCal and my sister wanted to stop by and Erewhon and I was like what's that and here we are. I love the aesthetic of the place. Everything is clean and inviting. The pricing for some of the things was out of my range but we really came for the hot foods and what was called "The Hailey Beiber" smoothie at the time is now called the Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie. The hot foods were delicious and would come back for it if its spontaneous, i think id have to be a regular for the smoothie to see the effects but the overall taste was better than the overpriced jamba im used to getting. I have been to other locations but it was my first time at the MB store and I was pleasantly surprised with the layout and amenities. I visited on a rainy Monday during President's Day and it was still packed! The food options were endless, the service from the pizza kitchen and the smoothie bar were great. I did walk out of the store buying a few items to give some things a try. I think the only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars is due to some ingredients I really wanted weren't ready for use like the limes, which were hard as a rock and the mint came in a giant Costco sized portion which I did not want to waste. Came to see what the hype was about. The store is very clean and organized. I did a walk through to see how the prices vary and they seemed reasonable depending on the item of course. I came for the vegan soft serve ice cream. I had the Hailey Bieber's Strawberry Glaze Soft Serve Sundae. It was delicious. I came back 2xs already and I am looking forward to my next trip. Am I embarrassed that I spent $20 on a smoothie? Yeah, but I'm from NY so I spend money on needless stuff all the time. Couldn't get early check-in at my hotel so I dropped off my stuff and walked over here. It was exactly what I thought it'd look like with Teslas in the parking lot and everything in mason jars. I did appreciate that this was within walking distance and there's outdoor seating in the shade so I could rehydrate in peace. The cafe part is in the back and you can order your smoothie from the tablet or at the register. The cashier was nice and the line moved quickly. The wait was reasonable for the amount of people working and on line. I wouldn't say the smoothie was life-changing but maybe if the Katseye "Gabriela" one benefitting the Malala fund was still available, I'd be singing a different tune. This was my second time to this new location, but I had a pretty stomach turning experience with my Superbloom juice. After finishing the drink, I noticed a thick green residue caked into the bottom ring of the bottle. Since Superbloom is a pink/ red drink, this is clearly leftover residue from a previous Green Juice fill that wasn't properly cleaned before the bottle was reused I understand and support the bottle-reuse program, but for a premium brand that prides itself on wellness and purity, finding cross-contamination from a previous customer's drink is unacceptable. It's a major quality control failure both in the sanitization process and the final inspection before refilling. whether these are cleaned in-house or off-site, I expected much higher standards for a new location. I think this location had something wrong with their cups and straws though. Our smoothie cup broke once and the straws broke three times they were so brittle. Maybe stored in the sun too long. For a small store, the selection is pretty good, this location is carrying all the most popular things, and it is crazy busy. Maybe because it's newly openned. I really like the deli, I had the miso black cod and it was delicious. It looked a little "old". But apperences can be decieving. I was thinking it was dry, but not at all. A delicious piece of fish which I couldn't have made myself better. I'm glad it's placed on this collard green leaf. It held the oil and flavor. My sides were fried rice and power greens. The fried rice is definitely something I wall have to pass on in the future. Mild flavor and dry. The power greens were pretty delicious and a double side of that still wouldn't be enough. The whole meal was a combo and the price was $33 a pound. The weight was .64. it cost $21.24 plus tax I think. I'd say it's worth it and there's value there because it was delicious. Erewhon is now in the South Bay! I was intrigued (and admittedly excited) when I saw Erewhon would be opening up in Manhattan Beach. They took over the spot that was previously housed by Mother's Market and they just had their grand opening yesterday! The popularity of this luxury grocery store is insane! Day 1, the line was wrapped around the building. Today on the second day, there was no longer a long outside line but the parking was packed! They had plenty of employees inside helping folks out and they were doing their best to help the lines move efficiently. I chose to go the the Hot Bar first. I was torn between getting a combo plate or a burrito or a chicken pot pie. I ended up getting the chicken pot for $16.50. Next up I went to their famous Erewhon Tonic Bar! This is where all the cool kids hang out ;). It honestly seemed like the whole town was there to buy smoothies. I opted to go with the self serve ordering iPad versus ordering at the counter. I thought this was a pretty efficient way to order. They basically sent me a text once I placed my order and when the order was ready, they texted me again. For my drink, I chose to get their Amino Acid Trip Smoothie for $13. Since it was my first time ever to visit an Erewhon, I was definitely excited to see how everything tasted. My expectations were high for the smoothie! The smoothie was good and I could definitely taste the yuzu flavoring. It definitely had a pineapple kick too. I must admit I couldn't really taste too much of a difference thought between other smoothies from other cafes (ahh don't hate me for saying it!). The smoothie was flavorful but nothing too distinctly different taste wise! Though with this smoothie being made with organic oat milk and coconut cream; I can definitely see why the smoothies here can be more on the pricey side. It's all about fresh and quality ingredients! As for the chicken pot pie, I was definitely impressed. I loved the buttery crust and saucy filling of chicken, potatoes and carrots. Insane line for the opening of Manhattan Beach store, Erewhon's first in the South Bay! On opening Day, July 2nd, they offered complimentary lattes and flowers, a custom Manhattan Beach-themed smoothie for purchase, and limited edition tote bags for the first 150 customers (who spend $250!!!) While I'm not a big fan of their $19+ smoothies, I'm a fan of their soups (comes in a glass jar that you pay an additional $1-2 per jar but you get it back if you recycle it back to the store, as store credit or cash back). Also a fan of their protein bowl from the tonic bar. I've enjoyed their hot bar service and friendly folks, and their health day events where they have free samples. I am a grocery store enthusiast so when I heard about Erewhon I knew I had to make my pilgrimage! Already knowing the lowdown about this luxury grocery chain, I wasn't too sticker shocked at the prices. However, it's definitely a cut above even Whole Foods prices. Some of the small plates and hot foods that you can buy at Whole Foods for 10-20 dollars for an entree are more like 30-50 dollars at erewhon. I found that the actual grocery section seemed reasonable. There are a lot of items that look familiar from visits to Ralph's, Vons, etc. I did notice that many items were smaller than usual or more expensive than at other grocery stores, despite being the same prepackaged item. The hot bar area was where erewhon shone! The food was mouthwatering in appearance and smelled divine. I decided on a salad (they have so many delicious looking salads!), a coconut cream panna cotta, and of course the famous Hailey Bieber smoothie. The smoothie came out after about 15 minutes . There was a bit of a rush at this time and while I was waiting I saw about 15 other Hailey Bieber smoothies being made and picked up. It seems like this is the standout item at erewhon for sure. The other smoothies looked amazing too, especially the blue colored ones. It's a bit pricey for what it is, though the flavor and ingredients are unique-- I found the smoothie wasn't too sweet, and had a strong fresh strawberry and banana flavor. The taste of the dates and maple syrup added an earthy tinge of sweetness. I could not taste the sea moss, coconut cream, or avocado at all. The smoothie was really heavy and I decided to save half of it for the next day (even though im normally a big eater). I wasn't as happy with the panna cotta-- it didn't have the right texture and was a bit grainy. Rather than being like a gelatin dessert, it was more like a paste. Who remembers this location as Fresh n Easy?! Well, same concept and layout, just prettier and fancy. Was it worth the hype? Yes and no. Gave it a few weeks to let the crowds die down a bit. It's beautiful inside. Staff is nice, friendly, helpful. Shelves are beautifully stocked. Some items are reasonable priced, some items are just ridiculously expensive for no reason. The Hailey smoothie only took 15 minutes from order to delivery. Great tasting, good quality ingredients, but not worth $23 with tip. Would I try other smoothies and the hot foods next time? Maybe. Got Creatine for $16.99 on sale. Seems like a good deal, considering I've paid a lot more at Sprouts. As an LA/Southbay native, felt like I had to see what the hype was. read more
